UI issues with beta 8

First off, let me confirm that the correct way to upgrade from beta 7 to beta 8 was just to install beta 8 on top on beta 7. Is that correct or should I have deleted beta 7 first?
If that's correct, then I am having a whole bunch of issues.
First issue: My basic Tab Bar Controller application does not display (in the simulator) the UIView the first time you visit the tab but does display it the second time you visit a tab. Anyone every seen this and if so any ideas on the root cause?
Second issue: Once the view does display, I am having some issues with controls. When I try to add "IBOutlet NSTextField* distanceLabel;" to my interface for the view controller (subclassed from UIViewController), the compiler flags this with "syntax error before NSTextField". Am I missing some special syntax sugar for the iPhone here?
Third issue: I have hooked up a button "touch up" event to a method in my controller with this signature: "- (IBAction) start:(id)sender;" This hooks up all nice and good but when the button is pressed, the app crashes in GDB with a selector not found error.
Anyone seen this with beta 8 or otherwise?

Actually, i just notice this in GDB. This looks like a problem -- has anyone ever seen this before?
This GDB was configured as "i386-apple-darwin".warning: Unable to read symbols for "/System/Library/Frameworks/UIKit.framework/UIKit" (file not found).

Program loaded.
I also reformated my dev machine and clean installed beta 8 so I am pretty sure that is not the issue now...

Issue with Beta Zone account

I'm not sure if this is where I need to post this, but I am hitting a dead end trying to find help.
I had to reset my BlackBerry ID due to to many PIN changes. What I did was change the email address on the account that had too many changes, and recreate a new BlackBerry ID with my usual email. This caused me to have to pay again for some downloaded apps and I lost my BBM contacts as well.
I haven't logged into Beta Zone in quite some time, but decided to see if I could get BBM for Android. I used to be able to login with a username and password, but now it requires a BBID (which is understandable) but when I try to login, it needs my BBID and when I try to go to https://beta.webapps.blackberry.com/defaults/bbidlink it has my email address in the username field and I can't change it. I even tried to create a new Beta Zone ID and it says my email address is already in the system.
I sent an email to [email protected] a week or two ago and got no response. I also sent a tweet to @BlackBerryHelp this morning. I really need to get this straightened out. So if anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it.

That is not at all what I experience. When I go to that link, I have to first press the "Sign In" button, and then I'm presented with fields to enter for my BBID. Anything that is pre-populated to those fields is being done by your browser...by default, those fields are always empty, and the site is actually coded to prevent most standard ID/password saving methods from working. So, anything that is in those fields now is being done by your browser or some ID/password assistant you have installed...not by the site itself. Not being able to change it is even more of such an indicator that something local to you is in control here.

Which would be logical if you previously created a BBID with that email address -- there can be only one BB ID account per email address.

The issue isn't with the site, it's with your BB ID as well as your local browser and whatever add-on ID/password helper you have installed. I've no idea what your browser is nor what your ID/password helper is...you'll need to figure those out locally. Or try installing a different browser that does not have such an add-on and, if you know your BB ID credentials, you should be able to access them.
BB ID is sort of a "single sign on" for multiple BB-related products and services, so the core of your issue is with that rather than the specific site you were trying to access. And your local browser issue is I think really at the root of it all.

Issues with Beta Tester Tools on Firefox mobile

I just downloaded Firefox Mobile Beta 1 on my Droid 2. I remember seeing the "Beta Tester Tools" in an earlier build of fennec so, I tried to install it and I'm running into some issues.
I first downloaded "fennec-4.0b1.source.tar.bz2" from http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/releases/latest-beta/source/. I then located "[email protected]" in "mozilla-central/mobile/app/profile/extensions/".
I compiled the extension like I had for some of the one that I've worked on. I created a site using the guide https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Installing_Extensions_and_Themes_From_Web_Pages
and uploaded the files to my MobileMe iDisk. Everything showed up perfectly (don't mind the 2nd link, I was trying to install the Firebug beta as well).

It installed & is showing up in my Add-ons menu. The Beta icon, however, is not showing up in the Toolbar. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

FaceTime - Serious security issue with Beta

I just had a quick play with FaceTime and too my horror have discovered that when you go to Preferences > View Account the summary screen shows the Date of Birth and the answer to your secret question in the clear. The Account password is obscured, but by having the other information exposed, it is a trivial matter for anyone that gains access to a Mac that has been set up with FaceTime to run riot with one's iTunes and Apple Store accounts that are associated with the Apple ID.
I think I'll shy away from it for a bit.

My "to my horror" was that I received (and granted) a request from "apsd-ft.apple.com" to load perform an update, and I became mistrustful as I watched a full 12-minute load in at DSL speeds, without any other i.d. occurring. I reacted too slowly to the possibility it was a spoof and didn't truncate if quickly enough.
As a consequence this busy-beaver "upgrade" (trojan) immediately severed my TimeMachine... knowing I'd try to reconstruct a version of my MacBook Pro preceding the download; denied further reading of my boot disk to TimeMachine; made the (new) external backup drive unbootable... by that machine anyway; changed about four pages of permissions to give itself writing powers and to block attempts to see it or eliminate it; and then inserted a routine to prevent fixing permissions. Any permission fix does tons of stuff... and then at the end of the "fix" all errors are reset back to their previous "error" state favouring the trojan which rode in upon some FaceTime security breach.
As a consequence my MacBook Pro is a deer blinded in the headlights, and no backup is possible (or desirable... I don't want to over-write the last good version). I must get FaceTime out but I'm not sure what it will take to completely eliminate this little sieve-like monster.

Issue with Generate Create Script in new ODT 11.1.0.5.10 beta

So I'm trying to determine if there's an issue with the Generate Create Script option in the new ODT 11.1.0.5.10 beta (when you right click on a table in Server Explorer).
The SQL create script that it generates lacks the slash between lines. For example I generated the create script for my User table and this is what was generated:

So, does anyone know if this is a bug? Could I be missing an option to add in the slashes to the generated code? Is there an option to not require the slashes? Could there be another way to execute these scripts?
Seriously, I think I'm having deja vu from the last release of the Dev Tools: Generate Create Script creates scripts that won't run: ORA-00922: missing..

There are 2 issues in the generated script :
1. Missing semicolons at the end of the create stmts
2. Missing slashes
Both of these fixes will be available in the ODT 11.1 release.

Issue with GEAR Software CD/DVD Drivers + Windows Vista Beta 2 (build 5384)

I am using Windows Vista Beta 2 (Build 5384), and yes I know Vista is NOT officially supported by iTunes yet. However, iTunes installs and works ok for me, except that there is an issue with the GEAR Software drivers that it installs (used for cd burning and importing). The issue is that the driver (GEARAspiWDM.sys) is not compatible with Windows Vista. Normally this would not be an issue; I would just use a different program to create audio cd's. The issue is that the drive makes both my DVD-Rom and my DVD/CD-RW drive disappears (they are still listed in the device manager, but they have driver errors, code 39).
So I was wondering if anyone in Mac/Apple land knows of a way to disable/uninstall the GEAR drivers so I can still use iTunes?
And yes I did search the GEAR Software support page, but could not find an appropriate solution.

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

Issue with Generate Create Script in new ODT 11.1.0.6.10 beta

I've tried this on several tables in my database. I choose Generate Script to ... a file, for a given table it gives me the error message "An error occurred while writing to fil: \nValue was either too large or too smal for an Int32."
(It doesn't matter if I'm in a Oracle database project or some other project.)
Trying to Generate Script To Project... when I'm in a Oracle Database Project, Visual Studio (2005) crashes. It appears to be some overflow exception according to crashinfo:

Take your iPhone to an Apple Store or authorized service center in the country where you purchased the iPhone and they will look at it and replace it under warranty if applicable.
If you cannot take it person contact them to determine how to send them your phone.
You can't expect them to replace your iPhone without first examining it.

All I was wondering if anyone was having issues with Lightrooms beta and pointing devices… while I’m sure the Wacom Introus4 is dying in Lightroom I can’t verify that my Mouse is as well.
I’m using the most recent Beta of Lightroom and Wacom Tablet Driver 615-3a… I’m sure the issue dosent reside with another program because the tablet only stops working in Lightroom. Basically I loose all tablet functionality until I reboot whin I attempt to access the Film Strip… I’ve repeated a few times and with each it dies…

Unfortunately, although you are getting problems with your Wacom and Lr, the solution for the short term is to re-install an older driver for the tablet until Wacom come up with a new update to fix the prolem. This has been a long running problem for users when operating Lr with Wacom tablets.
(I offer this solution not from personal experience, but from what other tablet users have reported in previous threads, and there have been several).

Issues with WebForm performance

We had migrated a new application from UAT to PROD and we encounter webform performance issues with the following actions..
After login, the first form you open it is
always slow. After this you can switch from one form to another without a
delay.
Then once you change any data – the next time
you access a form it gets delayed.
The point to be noted is, it doesnt have any performance issues in the UAT environment and the configuration settings,essbase cache settings are all the same. We did try to move the EPM system to a new server to see if this is a hardware issue but no luck, the performance issues still exist. The consumption of the CPU/memory has been checked and it is proved that the form opening delay has nothing to do with lack of memory.
The JVM head settings is set up at 4GB which is infact higher than that of the UAT environment(2GB).
runs on Windows server2008,11.1.2.1.600 EPM serve, has planning,reporting,foundation on one server (32GB ram) and essbase on another server (32GB ram). Any help is appreciated.

I never thought it could be an emulator issue, I thought I had done something wrong to begin with. So I take having performance issues with tiled layer is not a common problem I suppose?

User are having an issue with Analysis Office and giving the error.
From Analysis Office-> Open workbook->after Login to AO using BW connection
After opened the report ->when refresh the report, getting the error

Thanks for the reply. The Sales office field is directly mapped in the transformation and does not have any routine. Its the Key field.
The Billing Document Condition infocube is being feed by the DSO '2LIS_13_VDKON - Billing Document Condn' and datasource is '2LIS_13_VDKON'.
The Open Orders infocube is being feed by the DSO Document Order item / Delivery; below which we have another 3 DSO.
1st DSO has the Datasource '2LIS_13_VDITM'
2nd DSO has the Datasource '2LIS_11_VAITM'
3rd DSO has the Datasource '2LIS_11_V_SSL'
The Sales Office 7 has txn records for the month of April & May.
The report built on top of a Multiprovider and the for the months June and July, we have txn records fine for the sales office 01 - 06.
Please help me, if i am missing anything here and make me to understand better.

Issues with multiple things since Mavericks update

I installed the Mavericks update and since, I have been having multiple problems with different things on my MacBook Pro 13"
1. Printer issues: I have an HP officejet 6500 wireless printer (Officejet 6500 E709n Series), and now it's having major issues with printing, yet was working perfect prior to update. It will either cut out pages when printing PDF documents, or printing so slow that it has to take a break in between printing each document (an issue that all never occurred until update), to print documents back to back, it will stop after one document as though I have no other documents in queue to print, and pauses for an extremely long time (nearly a full minute, no exaggeration here, literally almost a full 60 seconds), something it's never done before this update. My Apps update even did an update to the HP software that is inside the Mac already to use printing (in other words, the mac doesn't need to have the HP software manually installed for it to work, it automatically sees the printer because it is connected to my wireless network just as my Macbook Pro which is also connected wirelessly to my network).
2. Internet issues: am now unable to click on certain links in safari that I was able to use prior to the update, yet they will open fine inside of firefox with no issues, yet I cannot always switch between two different browsers to perform task online (literally have to start all over inside firefox while in the middle of something in safari). Also lots of websites no longer work correctly and I have to constantly clear history and cookies to attempt to use certain sites, at times it will help, other times it wont work period, yet the same exact site will work perfect in firefox (which I do not use, only on my system for use on certain sites for school because in safari prior to the update, I would have issues with only the class site and some links not working at all, no spinning wheel, no errors, just nothing, no response of any kind, basically worse than what it was before the update). Another issue, hit Ctrl+a to select inside Safari and it highlights, but then when you click out of the highlight, it comes back on it's own several times without you hitting anything, just click inside the screen on a blank space (no links, etc) with touchpad.
3. System issues: My system is way slower than what it was prior to the update, click on things and it wont respond at all, then minutes later will eventually respond or pops up the spinning color wheel, which it either never responds or takes an extremely long time to respond. And no matter how much I restart, it doesn't help anything. Even just to sit doing nothing, no clicking or usage on the system, and the color wheel pops up.
4. Mail issues: Mail is now popping up completely blank messages that I have sent out, the person receives it with no issues, yet I cannot look at the message I sent neither in the inbox or the sent items when I need to look at them again, an issue not present prior to update. Also I an now having issues when receiving mail, sometimes it will check for mail and sometimes I have to manually click to make it check the server for mail, an issue not present prior to update as well.
As of now, since I have had the chance to used the system since the update, these are the issues I have had, yet haven't had the chance to check other things, so there may be other issues that are occurring that I'm not aware of at the moment. I knew it would be a mistake to do this "free" update and did so anyway and now having one issue after the next with each application I open to use.
Mac general info:
Mac is one year old, purchased brand new, no shareware programs of any kind installed.
Use for school and basic web surfing use.
Do not install any programs onto system that I'm unsure are safe (basically programs for/from school/school websites only, or from the Mac Apps store only), not even programs like Skype, nor any windows based programs of any kind.
Lots of free memory avail because I save everything onto external hard drives (purchased brand new as well, only 4months old) in case system crash occurs, only things on the system is Itunes music or pics from photo stream that sync to the system when Iphone connected.

For those needing help fixing their system and putting it back to Lion or Mountain Lion, this is what I have done to eliminate all my issues in about an hour (depending on your internet connection).
Amazing thing, I just restored my computer back to Mountain Lion, and she's working perfect again, as I knew she would. E-mail popping into mailbox instantly as it should and did before the update, printer working fast as it was before update, no more freezing or glitches of any kind thankfully and finally. Here is the link that is through the Apple site to direct you on how to put your system back and get rid of Maverick's, that is assuming that is what you would like to do and also includes link for those wanting to try fixing the issue if that is your preference (most of this info is for those with mountain lion and some with the previousverisoin of OS X lion).

I hope this helps someone, it was amazing for me and my system is working perfect again like it was, battery life is way better went from like 3 hours to like 5 (not on full charge by the way, after it sat for a while doing the online update which took a while so that's saying something alone, huge improvement). I plan to wait a while before attempting to reinstall Maverick's, long enough for them to fix the bugs.

Issue with RTL order in hyperlinks on Pages 5.2

Hello,
I am having an issue with the Arabic order when trying to add a hyperlink to a text in Pages 5.2. When I type the sentence without the hyperlink the order is perfect, however when I add the the URL link to the selected text the sentence order becomes corrupted.
Could you please let me know if there is some feature that I am missing to apply or is just that the RTL support on Pages 5.2 is not very good?
Do you have a workaround to this problem?
So far the only way to solve it that I found it was to create a transparent text box with the link over the sentence. However I would like to found a better solution to this.

Does Verizon ever provide a different model phone if the customer has basically had the same issues with 3 prior 'replacemet' (refurbished) phones?

I have owned a Samsung Galaxy Stellar for the about the past year and a half, which is only my second smartphone. I am not a whiz at all this but I'll try to be coherent. I had problems with the Stellar from the beginning: Very slow loading browser, problems with the cursor, etc. After about 6 months, the phone dropped, and no, I didn't throw it on the ground!
I have insurance and it was still under warranty, so it was replaced, by Assurian, I believe. The replacement phone had the same problems, plus a whole lot more. During calls, the wifi, and/or Bluetooth options would appear, or the phone would suddenly go on mute. In addition, when I tried to access my voicemail, what I heard was my own voice and outgoing message, not the one from Verizon asking for the password. These problems were intermittent, which made the Verizon employees dubious, but it's like the car that you take to the garage that suddenly works fine. Anyway, there were some other problems too, so I got a replacement phone again, which is the phone I currently have had for about 3 months. A few days ago it went from bad to worse. In fact it went Crazy!: Every call I make or receive is immediately dropped. Maybe after 5 or 6 tries, I can complete a call, but rarely. When I do, the mute and speaker options spontaneously activate, at the same time!! When I go into my voicemail, the messages are deleted in rapid fashion, one after the other, and I cannot get them back. Or, as I said earlier, the Wifi/Bluetooth screens appear, and it's difficult to punch in any numbers as I have to hit the back arrow many times. Strangely, the phone makes odd sounds: It buzzes or makes this odd chiming sound! If I didn't know better, I would think that I have finally lost my mind! I could go on but you have the gist. The phone is simply not workable. I phoned tech support, and she was very nice. After an hour on the phone, it worked ok, until the following day. She didn't do a factory reset, but she had me take the sim card and battery out. She did things on her end, which unfortunately I don't recall, but the phone worked ok until the following day, when it went crazy again.
I took it to the corporate Verizon store where I live, The guy said "It's a lousy phone, a cheap, bottom of the line phone." By the way, throughout this time, I had had about 6 hours with tech support, between this phone and the last one.
THIS IS MY QUESTION: I asked him if I could have a totally different phone, since this model is clearly defective. He said no, but they could send me another replacement. He told me to call trech support while I was there in the store and ask them, because they don't do repairs at the store. The tech on the phone told me the issue is with my Gmail account! That there is a virus on some phones and each time I get a replacement phone, because I have kept the same Gmail account, the virus keeps getting 'transferred', for lack of a better word, to the next phone. I was totally incredulous. Virus? She said, "Well, I use the term loosely, but it's just a weird glitch.When you get a replacement phone, bring it back and we'll save and upload all your data, and set you up with a new email account." I was confused and annoyed, as I had never heard of this, and felt I was getting the runaround. I asked her if they could give me a different phone (free of charge) and of course the answer was no. By the way, I should mention that the Stellar is no longer made. These are my options, according to the 3 different Verizon employees I spoke with: I am eliblele for the early upgrade which they call the Edge. From what I understand, it's the full retail price paid out over 2 years, with a partial payment made at time of purchase. One person told me that after 24 months, they would accept what I paid as payment in full? Sounds too generous. Option 2 is $50 of a new phone, and option 3 is to buy a new phone at a Verizon store that is having an android sale. So, I acquiesced to getting another replacement which I will keep until I buy a new totally different phone. My impression is that it's not like buying a bad toaster. They don't refund your money and let you get whatever you want for the same price! My question is this: Does Verizon ever just replace a phone that has had problems, with a totally different model? I have made as much of a stink as I can muster towards that end, but I am wondering if anyone out there has actually been able to pull that off?

amysue, We defintely want you to have a reliable and working phone. Our apologies that you have had issues with the current model, the Galaxy Stellar. After reviewing information about the overall function of the phone, it does not appear that Samsung has recalled the device or stated that all Stellar devices are defective, with that being said, the warranty would still only cover the same make and model. The only time a completely different phone is sent out is if the manufacturer deems the entire make and model overall faulty. It is common to have a few glitches and a master/factory reset, in addition to all other troubleshooting, will help resolve these issues. The Stellar is no longer made because there have been several Samsung galalxy devices launched, and this is common with any device manufacturer. Our recommendation is to take advantage of EDGE, if you are seeking a new device with low monthly payments. This gives you the chance to explore different device options without having a contract and you can EDGE up to a new device once meeting certain requirements. We hope to resolve your concerns here or by calling customer support.

I'm having an issue with my 7130c

Hi, I'm new here so im not sure if this is a stupid question or not, but I recently bought a 7130c and I'm having trouble getting it to work properly. When i insert the battery that came with it the led blinks once then the screen shows a battery icon with a line through it. It also wont turn off when i press the power button. I've tried plugging it into the wall both with and without the battery in place as well as charging it over night, I've also let the battery run completely empty then charging it. Nothing seems to make any difference, the screen will only show the battery icon. My question is, is this purely an issue with the supplied battery or is the phone itself also playing a part?
I've also tried connecting the phone to my PC, which seems to register that its there (again the screen on the phone does not change) but when i try to update the software it only makes it as far as "reconnecting to JVM" at which point i recieve an error message saying "unable to reconnect to the device during a multi-stage load operation".
Is there anything i can do to remedy my problems?

For the battery: leave it in the BB and charging for several hours. After 3-4 hours, with it still plugged in, remove the battery and reinsert it, and see if it boots up. If so, leave it charging to 100%, look at Options > Status for the charge percentage.
On the PC, load Desktop Manager, I would recommend version 4.2 Service Pack 2 for your BB, get the one withOUT the media manager software.

THEN, make certain you are connected to the USB port on the rear of the PC, not a USB hub, not a monitor port or a front PC port.
And try connecting with the PC again.
