UK Based Director consultants

Apologies if this is not an appropriate post... I am looking
for a UK consultant to help me on a particular aspect of a project.
Essentially I know what I want to happen, I even have a good
idea of what needs to be written, but I dont know how to write it
correctly.
The main points are:
I have 83 games, which the user can add to a planner (must
add 4) - the name of the game should appear on screen after
selection as an indication of what they have selected.
The user may want to change which games have been added.
When satisfied the user needs to print the 4 games they have
added (using printomatic) (on to 2 x A4 landscape pages)
This printout contains, A picture, Aims, Organisation,
Coaching Points and Adaptation ideas which are drawn from cast
members (i.e. not shown on screen)
Dynamically change cast member contents - e.g. When the user
selects the first game - this needs to automatically update
Image_1 / Aim_1 / Organisation_1 / Coach_1etc etc.
When they select a second game, this should update Image_2 /
Aim_2 / Organisation_2 / Coach_2 etc etc.
They also need to be able to save and open (using fileio) the
contents of the plans they have created.
If this sounds like something you can do or would be
interested in working on, please reply to this post and we can
discuss further
Mike

  • Looking for a director consultant

    Hello there!
I'm not sure if this is posted in the right place; if it's
not, please don't flame me -- just let me know and I'll remove it.
I am an academic, working with two colleagues to produce a
DVD-Rom for the academic market (we have a publishing contract with
a University Press). The project is basically a "chapter" format
with forward/back controls and a main menu. It includes Quicktime
    video.
I'm the person responsible for actually authoring the project
in Macromedia Director, but I'm only an English professor, i.e.
enthusiastic amateur! I've got the files mostly assembled, but I'm
not confident of my ability to produce a fully professional title.
We are looking for a consultant to help us out with these things:
*** Working out how to implement a "bookmark this page"
    function.
*** Work with me to understand what I need to be aware of
while completing the files. This might include giving me advice on
scripts to use for successful memory management, advice on what
quicktime codecs to use, advice on any other scripts I should
understand (e.g. how to change monitor res, preloading flash &
    video, quicktime detection etc.).
*** Advice on how to pop up full-screen video, what Xtras I
will need, where to get them etc.
-- we are funding this through a university grant which
expires on November 30th, so the work needs to be invoiced by then.
We are also on a *very limited budget* by your standards - about
    $6000.
If you think you can help, email me at
    [email protected]
    Thanks for your time.

  • Overhauling the Documentation for Director

    Hi Everyone,
Please excuse this cross-post. You can also find it on the Direct-L mailing list and on the Director Online Forum. I will post a summary of answers to each of these places.
Rajnish Bharti, Product Manager for Director and Shockwave, asked me last week for my input on how best to overhaul the documentation for Director.  In particular, he asked me to give him an idea of what the Table of Contents should look like.
You can find my first draft of the Table of Contents here:
    http://www.openspark.com/adobe/Director_Documentation_01.zip
While preparing this, I contacted a number of Director teachers and trainers, talked to some newcomers to Director, consulted dozens of Director books (mostly from the Macromedia days) and pored over the various reincarnations of Director's own help.
    Examples
Lots of real-life examples that you can copy and paste and
    know that they will work
    Images
Clear and concise screen shots that capture the essence of
    a concept at a glance
    Fast and Powerful Searching
Beginners don't know which menu item or scripting term they
are looking for.  The search engine should help users to home
in from a layman's expression to the appropriate documentation
article.  Articles should be intelligently cross-referenced.
I have suggested dividing the documentation into three sections:
    1. Director Step by Step
A series of short hands-on tutorials which introduce all the
commonly-used features of Director in the context of simple
    movies.  Beginners can start here.
This section imagines that you have never used Director or
studied its documentation before.  You select a project that
is similar to the one you are planning, and the documentation
shows you how to achieve your goal using Director.
Hyperlinks lead you to more in-depth entries in the Feature
Guide on how a feature works, or to the appropriate entry in
    the Scripting Dictionary.
    2. Feature Guide
This section will give detailed explanations of each feature,
category by category.  It will be divided into three main
    chapters:
    The Workspace
Working with the various windows and menus
    The Raw Materials
Understanding sprites, members, the various media types
    and data types
    The Process
Designing your project, animating sprites, using scripts
    and publishing your work.
This section will give you a categorized view of what Director
does.  It imagines that you start with a "How do I..." type of
question, and guides you to the appropriate part of the
User Interface or the correct scripting terms to use.
It will contain links both to the Step by Step tutorials and
to the entries in the Lingo Dictionary.
    3. Alphabetical Scripting Dictionary
I have abandoned the idea of having the Dictionary divided
into categories.  I believe it is much easier to find an
entry without having to wonder whether it is a keyword, a
method or an operator.  If you don't know what entry you
should be looking for, the Feature Guide will help you.  If
you do know the word you are looking for, then you only
    need to know the alphabet.
Each entry in the Scripting Dictionary should link back to
the articles in the Feature Guide which refer to it, and to
each of the tutorials in the Step by Step section which use
    the term.
I also suggest (Section 4) implementing a much more powerful Search engine than the D11.5 browser-based help currently features, but that is not really a part of the Table of Contents.
The document that I have posted at...
    http://www.openspark.com/adobe/Director_Documentation_01.zip
... is by no means definitive, but it is at a point where I am ready to share it, to check if my general approach is acceptable.
I have not gone into much greater detail in some areas than in others, so past the 4th level, you may find certain areas are still vague.  You may have better ideas for the Step by Step tutorial movies than the ones I have included.
    Red text indicates new content.
I welcome feedback from all members on the community, both in terms of the content and the structure.
Once we have a comprehensive list of all the topics to cover and a consensus on the structure, then we will have to work out the most cost-effective way of generating the actual content.
Let me know what you think,
    James

    James, this looks outstanding!
I'm too far behind in versions to offer much here, but one thing I noticed that, I think is an oops:
    3.4.    Java Dictionary
    should be:
    3.4.    JavaScript Dictionary
Unless they brought back the Java beast, that is.

    PROJECT MANAGER (K5)
    Position Concept
The Senior Project Manager is a key position in the Consulting
Organisation. They are responsible for the successful delivery of a
project in terms of scope, deliverables, timeline, budget, client
satisfaction and employee satisfaction. The Project Manager is a window
through which the client views SAP and the SAP organisation.
Project Managers must have a rational view to various situations in the
project. They must be very sensitive to client needs bearing in mind the
conflicting requirements that a client team would demand, and the
delivery capabilities of the consulting team.
The skills of the Project Manger are - good project planning skills,
understanding and appreciation of the complexities involved in the
implementation of an integrated application, good communication skills
and people management skills. The Project Manager must be team builder,
motivator, and coach. Must be able to resolve conflicts, take
appropriate decisions at the right time and substantiate the proposed
solution to the client. The Project Manager, with the support of the
Senior Consultants or Integration Consultants, would take the right
decisions for the project. The Project Manager is a taskmaster when it
comes to the delivery of the project. They are responsible for managing
issues that arise from either the consultants and / or the client.
Prior experience in SAP implementation or SAP Project Management is
desirable. The Project Manager must be ASAP certified, to ensure that
the necessary methodology and tools are being deployed fully in the
project by the project team. The consulting team reports to the Project
Manager through their Team Leaders for that project. The Project Manager
works with the Client Project Manager for planning activities, obtaining
necessary infrastructure support and decisions that are required for the
    project to progress.
The Project Manager should ensure that regular meetings between the
team, as well as the Steering Committee are conducted. In case of lapse,
the Project Manager communicates the same to the Client Management team
to evoke response, commitment and involvement. As necessary, the Project
Manager may involve an SAP Project Advisor or SAP Auditors, to assist
them in providing useful recommendations for the progress and successful
implementation of the project. Project Managers normally report to the
Consulting Manger in the SAP Organisation. In case of large projects,
where parallel implementations are running, the Project Manager would
report to the Project Director. The Project Manager would take the
Project Director's advice and inputs to run the project.
The Project Manager interacts with the SAP organisation when support is
required in terms of Consulting skills, technical support or SAP issues
or any business issue that is beyond the scope of the implementation.
The personal characteristics of a Project Manager reflect their
capabilities in managing the project as individual resources:
    * A well-balanced and tolerant nature
    * Ability both to lead and work in teams
    * Ability to cope with stress
    * Rhetorical skills

  • Lightroom features/bug fixes I would like to see in next version

I love the Adobe Lightroom Application. It is very intiutive and out of the different RAW processing programs I've tried, it is the only one that has most of the features I need and has the least amount of complications. However, I think there are still places to improve upon:
    * Decouple raw processor from the monolithic software executable so that updates to the RAW camera component to add new cameras can be made without requiring huge downloads or reinstallation of a new software program but simply updating a few DLLs and files.
    * Improve performance of the Develop panel. It is extremely slow on my laptop running 32bit Windows 7 and 3GB of RAM with dual core processor (pre-Core duo). 8 to 10 seconds for the "loading" message to disappear per image no matter how often I have loaded or edited the image. No caching is being done at all.
    * On my higher powered Desktop (Quad Core2 processor/4GB RAM,Windows 7), Adobe Lightroom frequently will start behaving strangely after only a few hours of running. It seems like it is leaking resources or something because eventually functionality will start failing. Specifically, right clicking on images will no longer bring up menus for example. If i shutdown and restart the application, the problem goes away.
    * Photoshop-like healing brush. Many times I want to "brush" over areas of image defects but the only choice in Lightroom is the healing tool which always creates a circle and does not allow "brushing".  This only works if the defect is a spot and not an irregular area.
    * Adjustment with Arbitrary Mask tool. Bibble 5 has this nice concept where you can mask out a section of an image and then apply adjustments to it without affecting the rest of the image. You simply draw a mask and then you can apply adjustments to it. The only option in Lightroom is to select the "Mask" option but that leaves the decision of where exactly you want to mask to Lightroom which only uses edge contrast to determine masking area.
    * I'd like a way to tell Lightroom to update the metadata (write out) on all images that are out of sync. Right now the write metadata function will write out metadata to all files whether or not it is required. This means that it is inpractical to try to update your entire catalog as tens of thousands of files will be written to and not just those that are out of sync. This is very important as a way to preserve editing metadata in case of loss of the Lightroom catalog.
    * Option to write import metadata to imported files. For example, I have an import metadata for copyright and keywords and I want the imported JPG or DNG files to permanently have this metadata so that even if individual files are copied my copyright and other metadata are preserved with it.
    * Option to append text labels to automatically generated import destination folder names. So for example, I can still import into date based directories but append a description to help me remember what the folder contains when I'm later browsing it. Right now it is either/or. You can either choose the name of the import folder destination OR you can have the software generate one for you.
    * A google-type search box at the top of the library panel so that ad-hoc searches can be done without having to fool around with the filters. Everybody is used to a single search box for simple textual searches.
    * some way to filter images by whether they have been exported previously or not
    * Please support lens and shooting information for Sony DSLRs in both JPG and RAW files. Also support 3rd party lenses on Sony DSLRs without assigning the wrong Minolta lenses to them. I want to be able to see both Lens name, max aperture, focusing distance (if available) etc...
    * Some way to edit the Shooting lens information to support lenses which are not known to Lightroom, and if suggestion above won't be implemented, some way for the user to edit the lens id --> mapping table so that I can properly map my own 3rd party lenses.
    * Facial recognition/tagging option. Some way to have Lightroom apply people tags after I have tagged representative images. Handle multiple people in a scene.
    * Automatic (batch) export of images on schedule. I would like a way to configure Lightroom to automatically generate particular export configuration of all my images in a catalog (or some defined subset) such that new files or files that have been edited since last export are automatically exported on a schedule even if Lightroom is not running. Perhaps a Lightroom batch service. This is so that I can always  have up to date processed versions  of my images for use in my media center display. I would like to configure the Lightroom batch service to run weekly at say 2am every day, run a particular export function and export all new or modified images to a network share accessible by the media center. That way, I can always have access to cropped and edit images without manually doing exports all the time or having to remember which files I've edited and then export them. Also by doing this at off hours it would not slow down my computer while I'm using it.
    * Better profiles for Sony DSLRs and support for their picture styles the same way that Canon and Nikon camera are supported.
    * Teethering support for Sony DSLRs that have this feature
    * Support for parametric plugins -- Plugins that do not require the image to be exported before running.
    * Simple support for "picture frames" when exporting. Some way to apply a frame to an image as part of export with a dozen or so frames included and a way for 3rd parties to create more.
    * A better way to safely share catalogs or pictures between multiple computers/users in a networked environment.

Did these come to you all at once, or have you been saving them up for a while?
Anyway, Adobe *should* be able to handle long lists of FR, but another option is to break them up and submit them for voting on the new FR/Idea site that will shortly replace this one: (It was really hot for a while, but has cooled down lately...)

They are already decoupled - you can update ACR independently for new camera support, however it's released at about the same frequency as Lightroom itself, so that doesn't help much. Perhaps this should be reworded: "Provide more timely ACR updates..."

I've been complaining about this for a long time - ACR cache is worthless for me too - if dev image not in RAM cache, takes same amount of time to render whether in ACR disk cache or not. Some say ACR cache speeds things up for them - perhaps you need to *believe*...
PS - After new motherboard upgrade, this went from 15 seconds to 3 seconds average.

Yep - Lightroom still has some leaks - gotta restart it from time to time...

+1 vote - arguably the most desired addition to the dev tools. I bet Lr4 will have this (no inside info though).

+1 vote - this is one of my highest hopes for Lr(4) too: sophisticated auto-masking + manual masking: to apply to all or at least most adjustments...

Frequently requested - some use pre-startup database query + plugin to make collection in the mean time (I dont).

RC Importer supports this - its an import plugin that bypasses the import dialog box - not for everyone...

Maybe the seeds of a good idea here, but may be worth some refinement/clarification - what would be searched? Would special syntax be supported? Personally, I mostly hate all 1-box search fields, because one never knows what's being searched and how, e.g. does it search the whole catalog?, is it case sensitive? On the other hand, I get the convenience factor... - I think if accompanied by help and/or the ability to pop up a dialog box for refinement or options, this might make a nice addition. Along these lines, I sometimes think a quick-smart-collection would be nice too - for when one wants to search 2 text fields, instead of just one. I keep a temporary smart collection just for this purpose, but still...

Change detecting export plugins have mostly solved this for me (and publishing for some folks), although adding export info (and metadata change info) to catalog for searching / sorting still sounds like a good idea to me...

Yes, better export management would be welcome. Export Manager might help you (if you have multiple export destinations to update), but its not a panacea... Many of us ultimately "consume" our photos outside Lightroom, having the consumption copies kept up to date more fluidly would be good. Using change detecting export plugins (along with export-manager) and/or publishing helps..
    HopeSpringsEternal2008 wrote:

Yep - much room for plugins to get better integrated with Lightroom proper, to participate in image enhancement, as well as other things...

That would be nice. Although support for 3rd parties to add frames *upon export* already exists (export filter plugin + export post-process actions), as well as adding text overlays and such. But since its not built into Lightroom, one has to find them and configure them... And there is no good way to preview them in Lightroom... I think this would go nicely with the previous request - ability to feed image data to plugins for preview in Lightroom. Even if these updates were not built-into the dev module - i.e. weren't kept updated automatically whilst editing - just being able to click a 'see final' button or have it rolled into the build-previews function, so one could have post-process imaging plugins (with preview before export) - might be a nice compromise until true imaging plugins (that fit into dev pipeline) are supported.
    The end - for now...

  • Why does my footage have to conform every time that I open my project?

Working on my senior thesis film, and I am using my university's Mac Lab. Whenever I open the project, Premiere has to conform all of my footage, which takes about an hour for the size of this project.
I thought it had something to do with the Media Cache Files and Media Cache Databases being stored locally on the computer you were working on. Does anyone know if that is the case for sure?
Does anyone know a solution for preventing my project from having to conform each time I open it?

The project does occassionally move from one machine to another. The project file and all of the video files are located on an external hard drive.
At our university, they wipe all of the user accounts at midnight on schedule. This means we can't store all 200GB+ of our footage on the local machine.
As I wrote in my other thread, I had come to the conclusion that Premiere was doing this because it generates all of the peak files and render files to the local machine. These files either get wiped by the school (because they're stored in
    /Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Media Cache Files
    and
    /Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Media Cache
which are local, username-based directories) or they are written and changed (for example: I edit on computer A (where the project conforms all the footage), later, I go edit some on computer B (where it conforms all of the footage again probably because it's on a new computer), and then if I go back to computer A, it notices changes have been made to some of the generated files.)
    Potential Solution(?):
I thought about trying to go to these directories and copying the folders and their contents to the external hard drive, and then copying and pasting them to the proper directory on a computer before I start editing, but that will require me to do a lot of copying and pasting.
My other idea was to try and change the location of where Premiere saves the Media Cache Files and Media Cache Database to their location on the hard drive (after I copy those folders from a machine once they've conformed), but I do not know how to change the default location for these fiels in Premiere before I open the project.

  • Why do CC trials have to nag every time you touch a file?

Everyone knows the trial will expire. Nobody's going to register early. In the meantime, I feel a brief flash of contempt for Adobe's heavy-handed attitude toward their user base every time I export a pdf.

  • Publishing Flash via AIR as ready to run app?

I’ve got a Flash/AS3 project that needs to function online, standalone on CD, and have the ability to copy itself from the CD to the user’s hard drive and operate standalone from there. Since the filesystem class has been deliberately nerfed in Flash my present solution is to launch a Director app on the CD with two choices, 1. Play Flash app, 2. Copy Flash app to hard drive. Option 1 launches the Flash projector, option 2 uses Director’s filesystem capabilities to copy. Unfortunately, I can’t use Director as a wrapper for the Flash app because D11.5 does not support AS3 components, the best I can do is call up the Flash projector and have the Director projector quit.
Publishing the Flash project as an AIR application would un-nerf the filesystem class but the AIR app presents itself as an Installer, not a ready to run application. My client’s users work in an IT environment where this is a huge no-no. Even if the AIR installer works with their security (unlikely) these users have had it drilled into their heads, never, ever install anything onto your computers. Is there any way to publish an AIR app so that it’s a ready to run app (like a Flash or Director projector) or is the installer the only way to go?

Thanks everyone. I suspected an install would be the only way to go.
“your clients should work with IT, not against them”
Lol, easier said than done. We’re working with the HR department of a large multinational spanning 14 different business units (about 4500 users per unit). Each of the business units has its own IT department, some cooperative, others not. Most use SMS but even for the cooperative departments we’ve got two problems: 1: The HR department feels they get low priority when dealing with IT which is one of the reasons they farmed the project out to us. 2: Each business unit has a significant number of field reps with “rogue” laptop configurations that are not under the SMS umbrella.
Over the past few years the HR department has been very happy with us for two reasons: 1. The CD-based Director/Lingo projects ran in every environment, just put the disk in and go to work, no alarms, bells, or flashing warnings about admin privileges etc…, 2. We answer directly to the HR department giving them top priority.
This year one of the larger (more influential) business units insisted on doing away with the CD and wanted everything online while the other units would continue to get a CD. Shockwave was out of the question because the plug-in is not included in the standard disk image but Flash is, this forced a change in our code base from Director/Lingo to Flash/AS3. The client is actually very happy with the Flash/AS3 product but until we get all of the business units using the online version the CD will probably have to be a Director/Flash hybrid.
It seems a shame. It looks to me like this is exactly the type of project AIR was designed to address but for now I don’t see a way to make it work.

  • Inputting alpha characters using numbers 2-9

When dialing into voice systems that have alpha based directories (names) how do you input the values?  For example to dial SMITH on my office phone I dial 76484 on the keypad.  The Tour has no letters assigned to the numbers as a phone keypad would.  Do I just have to memorize the number-letter pairs, or is there a way to input them in response to voice prompts?

    Hi Patrick,
On way to experience this is if you have a filter running and some of your rows are hidden. If the is the case, just unclick the filter.

  • HSqlDb and bit / boolean field

    Hi there,
I'm using a database schema with a table containing a bit column on
    HSqlDb 1.7.3.
Using kodo schema tool the column is created as expected. I verified it
with HSql Database Manager. Unfortunately, I can't commit any data to
    this table (see exception below).
Maybe this may help: HSqlDb refers to a bit column as BOOLEAN.
    Kodo Version: 3.3.1

    Exception follows:
    kodo.jdbc.meta.MappingInfoNotFoundException: The "column"

column "Locked" in table "WORKSPACE" whose type (UNKNOWN(16)) is not

Yes -- Kodo does not yet officially support anything more recent than
HSQL 1.7.1. You can work around this incompatibility by using a
different SchemaFactory. The default SchemaFactory asks the database for
information about column types (which causes the problem); the dynamic
SchemaFactory just assumes that the schema will meet the needs of your
object model, and the file-based SchemaFactory consults a file for a
    description of the schema. See
    http://docs.solarmetric.com/ref_guide_schema.html#ref_guide_schema_info_factory
    for details.
