Unable to add HP Laserjet 4250 printer to my network

I've obtained an HP LaserJet 4250 printer to add to my home network. Plugged in the network cable, came up as an option on my "add printer" list. Clicked, was recognized, added to menu. When I try to print, item hangs in the print que and nothing happens. Printing out settings page from the printer, it appears the printer has an IP address not on my network! How to change the address. BTW, how do I find a list of IP addresses assigned by by Airport Extreme? It no longer seems to be an option in Airport Utility (v6.2)!
Using Mountain Lion (OS 10.8.3), iMac, Airport Extreme/Time Machine connected to Netgear ProSafe Gigabit switch.

    I have been trying to connect my HP LaserJet P1102w printer to my wireless network for a couple days now. I put the disk in and follow the instructions. When I get to the part about plugging in the USB to the desktop computer and turning on the printer, and it says the USB isn't connected when it is (the printer is on). I don't know what to do.

    I can help you with setting up the printer over the wireless network.
    Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet and the USB cable is connected directly to one of the back USB ports on the computer.
    The USB cable shouldn't be longer then 6 feet.
    Is the cable a 2.0 or 3.0 cable? How to determine whether a USB 3.0 device is operating at SuperSpeed?
    Is the USB port on the computer 2.0 or 3.0?
    Follow these steps in this document to get to the device manager to check for any printer entries.
    How do I get into Windows Device Manager?
    Then click on Identifying problems in Windows Device Manager.
    In the list click on Universal Serial Bus controllers and look for USB mass storage device and USB printing support, (make sure any other printers are turned off or disconnected) right click and uninstall it. If you have any others with exclamation mark or other devices in the list, delete them also.
    Let me know what it showed in the device manager.
    Then click on Action, across the top of the window and scan for new hardware.
    If the printer wasn't listed at all in the Device Manager, try another USB port on the computer and another USB cable.
    Restart the computer and the printer also to see if the printer will be detected.
    If the printer still isn't recognized, if you have another computer, connect the printer to it to see if it is recognized.
    Just to rule out a USB port on the computer, USB cable or hardware issue with the USB port on the printer.
    What operating system are you using? How to Find the Windows Edition and Version on Your Computer.

  • Unable to connect hp photosmart c4480 printer to wireless network

    I just purchased a new laptop HP dv7-6169nr but I'm unable to connect to my HP printer Photosmart C4480.  I'm connected by home linksys.  I tried to set up connection by using "sharing" properties but I guess I must be doing something wrong because I'm able to find the printer but when I try to print, the computer cannot find the printer.  Can anyone help me?

    Do you have a different pc available? Or if you have a friend who has a laptop will do as well. Because that will answer your question if its an issue with your pc. If it doesnt work with the other pc and you've tried a diff cable, its a big possibility its with the usb port on the printer.
    Now, if you dont know anybody with a diff pc, you might wanna check your firewall settings. Its also one reason why your pc cant detect the printer.
    You can also disable the startup programs just to make sure its not an issue with any 3rd party software. Try to follow the steps in this link in how to disable them ( and make sure you re-enable them once your done )

  • HP LaserJet 4250 Printer problem

    A baffling problem:
    Our building has 2 floors. This network printer resides on the 2nd floor. It is shared via the network and used the HP Universal PCL 6 (v.5.3) driver at first and then I switched it to the Universal PCL 5 (v.5.3) driver. Both produced the same error message for the people on one side of the 2nd floor, and people on the other side print fine.
    The error is:
    PCL XL error
    Subsysten: Kernel
    Error: MissingAttribute
    Operator: SetHalftoneMethod
    Position: 5
    Why would it work for some folks and not others? Everyone is running 32 bit versions of Windows XP or 7, doesn't matter because both OS's are producing the same error for the folks on the one side of the 2nd floor. Their IP addresses run the gamut between our 3 subnets so that doesn't seem to be the issue either.
    Any ideas?

    I upgraded the printer's firmware which resolved the issue.

  • Unable to install Officejet pro 8600 printer on work network using HP software on Win10

    I have recently updated my Surface pro 3 to Win 11.  I am trying to install my printer using the HP setup software.  This had worked with Win 8.1. The software was never able to detect my printer automatically but in the past I could enter the IP address and it would connect.  This is not happening, when I select wired connection, it just fails never giving me the option to enter the ip address.  I can install the printer using the W11 control panel but the Scanner features if the HP software (HP printer assistant) will not work this is frustrating for me.  Please help.Regards,Michael

    I found the solution to this problem.  You just need to run the automatic install wired function twice and then it will ask for the IP address.  Once I did that and entered the IP address it worked fine.  It just should be an option to begin with or show up after one failure.  The fact that I had to let it fail twice was confusing.Michael

    I am using HP Laserjet 4250 printer. While Printing PDFs with Watermark, the printer prints images as scrambled. It prints the part of the image as scrambled which is overlapped by the Watermark. The other part of the image is printed fine. When seen on the screen, it shows up the image with the watermark properly. Could you please suggest how to arrive at a solution for this problem.   • Hp LaserJet P1102w 'Printer may be out of toner' message

    My printer was working (almost) fine with a regular USB wired setup from my MacBook Pro, when I upgraded my OS to Yosemite it began to claim 'Printer may be out of toner' so I installed a new cartridge (needed one anyway) and the same issue arises. I've tried reinstalling it, reseting to factory defaults etc. but to no avail. I'm now trying to connect it to the Wireless Network in the hope it might print from there but not as yet. Any help much appreciated...

    I understand that you are getting a error that the "Printer may be out of toner", since upgrading to Yosemite. I will certainly do my best to help you.
    Since the printer was working properly before upgrading to Yosemite, most likely it is just a driver issue.
    Try and print a hardware self test on the printer just to rule out a hardware issue.
    Printing a Configuration Page.
    Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side delete the driver,  then click the + sign to add a new driver, you might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
    Try printing by the USB connection.
    Are you using Genuine HP Toner?
    I have also provided the steps for setting up the printer over the wireless network.
    Setting up the printer over the wireless network.
    Restore the printer defaults to setup the printer on a new network. I have provided the steps for 10.9, which will also work for 10.10.
    Make sure Safari is set as the default browser. Sometime the Embedded Web Server won't open if it isn't.
    Open Safari, across the top select the Safari menu, select Preferences, General, set as default.

    You may follow the steps instead of watching the video.
    Restore printer defaults first.
    Turn the printer off, hold down the wireless button and cancel (x button) while turning the printer back on and don't release the two buttons until the printer stops making noise.
    Print a configuration page to make sure the old network settings are cleared. Printing a Configuration Page.
    Then go to the Apple, System Preferences, Printers and Scanners.
    Highlight the Laserjet on the left side of the window.
    Then click on Open Print Queue, click on Settings, click on Utility, click on Open Printer Utility, then click on the HTML Config button. If it doesn't open, delete and add the printer back in again. Make sure when your adding the printer it shows the printer name. (Laserjet P1102w)
    The Embedded Web Server for the printer will open.
    Click on the Networking tab, select Wireless on the left side.
    Fill out this information for your network. Status make sure you select Enabled.
    Apply the settings.
    Then go back to Apple, System Preferences, Printers and Scanners and click the + sign to add the Laserjet bonjour printer. (might take a couple of minutes to appear) Make sure the printer listed beside use: shows the proper printer name and not the default driver, then click on the add button.
    Delete the USB printer from the list from the Printers and Scanners window.
    Disconnect the USB cable.
    Test the printer.

  • Unable to add network printers from Windows Server 2012 R2 to client running Windows 7 Pro x64

    New Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard in the environment.  Added print services to it and added five HP printers to it and shared them.  Also deployed the printers via group policy.
    Clients are running Windows 7 Pro x64.  The group policy fails to install the printers (error 0x00000002).  We get the same error when trying to manually add the printer from the client side.
    From Event Viewer: Group Policy was unable to add per computer connection <<printer share>>. Error code 0x2. This can occur if the name of the printer connection is incorrect, or if the print spooler cannot contact the print server.
    Any ideas on troubleshooting this?

    John,
    You might try playing with the HP universal driver, that might help you.  Try installing a new shared printer on the server using the universal print driver, then try and connect to it to see if it is any better.
    Check these GPO settings to ensure local machines can install the drivers.
    1. Configure the following two Group Policy settings:
    Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\System\Driver Installation\Allow non-administrators to install drivers for these devices setup classesEnabled
    2. Device class GUID of printers: {4d36e979-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
    Computer Configuration/Policies/Administrative Templates/Printers/Point and Print RestrictionsEnabled
    Security Prompts: When Installing Drivers for a new connection = Do not show warning or elevation prompt

  • LaserJet 4250

    We have a moved an HP LaserJet 4250 printer from one office to another, but now we can't get excel files to print with content inside the grid.  All of the boxes show up perfectly, with info in the correct boxes in the screen print, but once it is on paper, the content prints anywhere except in the boxes.  This wasn't a problem before the move and connecting to differeent computers.  Any ideas?

    I understand that you're getting the error 'Unable to add print driver hpfax1, error code 87' when installing your HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf Multifunction Printer on your Windows 7 computer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this install issue. Thank you for including all of the troubleshooting steps that you have completed prior to reaching out for support. At this time I am going to walk you through some additional software and driver troubleshooting steps. Please follow all of the steps below.  If you're using your HP Laserjet through a USB Cable connection, please disconnect that cable now.  Step one: Remove Driver: 1. Click on your Start menu 2. Select Control Panel 3. Select Programs and Features 4. When Programs and Features opens a list of programs installed on your computer will populate. Click on the 'Installed ON' tab at the top to change the date so the recently installed items show at the top. This will make it easier to manually locate the three HP Laserjet items you need to uninstall.  5. Next, look for the HP LJ M1530 MFP Series HP Scan, HPLaserJetHelp_LearnCenter, and HP LaserJet Professional M1530 MFP Series. If you see any 3 of these, or all 3 of these items, please click on them and select Uninstall.   Once you have confirmed that those three items have been uninstalled, please close Programs and Features and proceed to the next step.   Step 2: Clear Temp Files:  Click on your Start menuIn the 'search programs and files' box located right above Start after you click on it, type %temp% and hit enter on your keyboardWhen the Temp folder opens, select Ctrl + A at the same time on your keyboard. Everything in this folder will now highlight.Select the 'delete' button on your keyboard. The Temp folder contains temporary internet files. No actual files or folders on your computer will be affected by deleting the Temp files. Should a Temp file still be used than you will automatically get the pop up to 'skip' that item.Close the Temp folder once it is emptiedRight click the Recycling Bin on your desktop and select Empty Recycling BinPlease proceed to the next step.    Step 3: Download Installer Package:  Please click here to download the Full Feature Installer package. Once the download is complete, click on the download to allow it to 'Run'An extraction should now automatically occur. Once the extraction is complete an installer window will open. It is an application which should launch the HP Uninstaller. Please follow the onscreen prompts to complete the uninstaller.    Once the uninstall has completed please proceed to the next step. Be sure to Restart your computer if the uninstall process prompts you to.    Step 5: Check Print Server Properties:  Click on your Start menuClick on Devices and PrintersIn the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Laserjet. If you see it listed please right click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'. Next, click on any device listed under 'Printers and Faxes' once just to highlight itClick Print Server Properties at the top of the windowClick on the Drivers tabLook for your HP Laserjet driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottomClick Remove Driver OnlySelect OKSelect Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windowClose Devices and Printers.   • HP LaserJet 4250 will not print

    I have an HP Laserjet 4250 that will not print from any of the 15 stations it is set up to.  I send print jobs to it, and I have to power the cycle the printer in order for it to print.  I have deleted and re-added the printer to the workstations, and still get the same issue.  The IP address is correct the IP port is good, I have reset factory settings as well.  Still will not print more than 2 jobs without it having to be turned off/on.  Any suggestions???
