    Hi -
Is there any way I can add an Airport Express into an existing Linksys wireless (802.11g) network?. I would not mind switching completely over to Airport but I want to maintain a hybrid (part wired part wireless) configuration as I have now.

Hi skyelaird and welcome to the Discussions
Is there any way I can add an Airport Express into an
    existing Linksys wireless (802.11g) network?.
    Yes.
You would need to configure the Airport Express to join an existing wireless network (client mode).
In this mode you can share a USB printer and stream AirTunes, however the ethernet port would be inactive.

  • Extend an existing non-Apple wireless network using an Extreme base station

I have an existing wireless network via a Belkin modem/router. I would like to add my Airport Extreme base station to this existing wireless network, however this appears difficult. Can anyone help me please?

Hello IanWhite. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I have an existing wireless network via a Belkin modem/router. I would like to add my Airport Extreme base station to this existing wireless network, however this appears difficult.
Unfortunately, most non-AirPort routers are not compatible with Apple's implementation of Wireless Distribution System (WDS)...so it very unlikely that your Belkin router can be extended wirelessly with the AirPort Express Base Station (AX).
The few that are known to work are:
    o Linksys WRT54G or WRT54GS (not v5)
    o Belkin F5D7230-4 and F5D7231
    o BT Voyager 2091
    o Netgear WGR614 v6
    o Buffalo WGR-G54
Is your Belkin one of the models in the above list?

  • Unable to connect my Apple TV to my wireless network

    Hi
    I have an Apple TVMC572LL/A
I had to replace my wireless router.  I am now using a dual band router.
I am unable to connect to the 5GHz signal offered by the router.
    It is a Netgear N750.
Is there an issue with this generation Apple TV and 5GHz?

Hi Iv'e been trying to solve this issue for a couple of weeks now and have done loads of digging. My Atv worked fine when I bought it Gen1 and connected to my wifi no problem. Then for some reason dropped the wifi, it could find the wifi but wouldn't let me join it!
The solution and worked for me....I removed my router that was sitting on top of the Atv. Apparently it causes issues and bingo connected straight away to my wifi
Have read a lot of stories thread regarding these issues and people storing the unit behind under tv's etc. Stand the unit alone and see what happenes?
Hope this works for you as it did for me Happy viewing again.

  • Unable to connect hp photosmart c4480 printer to wireless network

I just purchased a new laptop HP dv7-6169nr but I'm unable to connect to my HP printer Photosmart C4480.  I'm connected by home linksys.  I tried to set up connection by using "sharing" properties but I guess I must be doing something wrong because I'm able to find the printer but when I try to print, the computer cannot find the printer.  Can anyone help me?

    Hey there!
Do you have a different pc available? Or if you have a friend who has a laptop will do as well. Because that will answer your question if its an issue with your pc. If it doesnt work with the other pc and you've tried a diff cable, its a big possibility its with the usb port on the printer.
Now, if you dont know anybody with a diff pc, you might wanna check your firewall settings. Its also one reason why your pc cant detect the printer.
You can also disable the startup programs just to make sure its not an issue with any 3rd party software. Try to follow the steps in this link in how to disable them ( and make sure you re-enable them once your done )

if one of my advice works or helped a little, you can click the *KUDOS* button on the left. thanks.
Disclaimer : Even though im working for HP, all comments and suggestions are my personal opinion. HP still has a process to follow. (But i hope it will help ü)

  • Non-airport wireless networks don't work

My PB G4 works seamlessly with our home airport network and many third-party networks at malls, air terminals, etc...but in some hotels, it's a bust. Both Airport icon and network preferences will show I am connected to the internet, but in practice, nothing happens...accessing a page just produces a long spinning beach ball and then a message saying the server couldn't be reached. Even hooking to an ethernet cable in the hotel rooms produces nothing, though when I hook up to the ethernet network in the hotel business cventer, all seems well. I am baffled...any suggestions? This is a major hindrance to me in my work. Tx.

The places you are having issues with have you inquired to find out if there is a simple password and or username rquired before you are able to connect.
If you are not having issues at the buisness center via ethernet, and you are not having issues connecting wireless at home or other wireless networks, and the correct changes are made in your System Preferences for the type Networks you are using.
Then the problem I doubt the problem is with the Internet Service you are connecting to.
Don't forget to try Repairing Permissions and follow the Instructions in Gullivers link.

Try to restart your computer as well when you get the error, as well as highlighting the URL address a 2nd time and hit the return a 2nd time and see if it connects.

  • Extend a non Airport wireless network with Airport Express

I want to use an Airport Express to extend a wireless network which is not an Airport network. The wireless is being provided by a wireless router. I tried setting up WDS, but that requires a wireless network. How do I extend the wireless network without it being an Airport Base Station? Can I?
    Thanks.

I'm trying to extend an 802.11g network. The base access point is a SpeedTouch which supports WDS. My Airport Express happily connects to the network as a regular node, but I can't get the WDS to work. Do you know of a way to set this up?
    Thanks!

  • Droid 3 - Unable to connect to AT&T U-verse wireless network and unable to download apps using 3G

    Hi,
I just purchased a DROID 3.  It will not connect to my home network which is AT&T U-verse.  It goes through the authentication process and then Wi-Fi shows as disconnected and the network shows as disabled.  Everything else is connecting to the router just fine, computers, printers, blackberry. I have toggled wi-fi on and off and get the same result.
I was able to connect to other wireless networks, AT&T DSL, mobile hotspots, just not AT&T U-verse.
In addition, I am unable to download apps using the 3G network.
    Any solutions out there?
    Thanks

Thanks for responding.  I've tried all of those already.  I've also manually configured my home wi-fi connection via "Add Wi-Fi network.  It still goes through the authentication process and disconnects.
Is there something that needs to be configured on my router.  It's a 2Wire 3800HGV-B.
Regarding downloads, I have a gmail ccount.  The message is that I need a Wi-Fi connection in order to download.
    Thanks
On my router, it is set to accept connections only from devices (MAC Addresses) I allow. Maybe you have yours set up that way.
Also if you have a passcode on the router, you will need to search for the device, then add the passcode to your phone.

  • Can't connect to router with non airport wireless

I try again... my Imac won't connect wireless to my router. It actually connects, Imac says everything is fine, but when I connect to the internet, the colourfull little wheel is spining for hours...and nothing shows up.
With the same settings, using Airport express, wired on the router, everytihng is working fine. I can't just switch to the other network.
    Any cue?

You have a non-apple wireles card in the IMAC. Why would you do that?
Sounds like your wireless card is not getting an IP adddess. Check system preferences - network and verify both the ethernet and the wireless connections are getting DIFFERENT Ip addresses. You have to go to your wireless cards website to find out how to connect it to an AEBS. Linksysy has info on their site. Also your AEBS has to be set up to distribute IP addresses, otherwise, the AEBS and the IMAC may have the same IP adress and the system won't accept that.

  • Can I activate the ethernet ports (routing) of Time Capsule "joining" an existing non-Apple wireless network ?

    Hello,
I have a DSL modem that is also a WIFI router as my main WIFI network from room A. In room B, I have a TC wirelessly joining the existing WIFI network (not creating a new one). That works fine, I have one SSID, and I can wirelessly access the TC disks and backup my Mac on my TC.
Now, I would like to connect a wired device (with on WIFI) to the ethernet port of my TC. Unfortunately, the ethernet ports of the TC don't seem to be "activated" as they do not have internet on them.
More precisely, I'd like to connect a GE Cordless Skype Phone Model# 31591 (http://www.gephones.com/products/skype/dect-6-0-expandable-digital-cordless-phon e-with-skypetm.html) that connects to a router via Ethernet. I'm aware that I could simply connect it to the DLS router, but that's not what I want... Is there any way to activate the ethernet ports of the TC while in "join" mode ? Or do I really have to buy a Airport Express to create my main network and then extend it ?!?

Thanks, the reason why I asked again, is because you told me to start another thread with the specifics of the device I want to connect, so I did
Not a big deal, and it is easy to become confused.....but to be clear about this
    Your question.....
is there a way I can connect my Bluray player to the TC ?
    My Answer.....
Please start a new post for that. Tell us the make and model number of the player and whether you plan to connect using wireless or Ethernet.
so I tried to creat the main WIFI network with a first-generation Airport Express M9470LL/A (802.11b/g, no "draft N" or "n" support) and the TC wouldn't extend it either, is it too old/not supported
Unfortunately, the "extend" setup will only work with "n" devices.  The older Express does not have a setting to "Allow this network to be extended", so the Time Capsule cannot pick up the signal.
I'm not sure what else to suggest other than what I already have.  I'm assuming that you do not want to buy another new Airport Express.

  • Unable to Connect to the internet using airport extrteme

I am unable to connect to the internet using airport extreme It was working fine with my G3 & G4 iBooks but now I am unable to connect. I am able to connect directly to my Desktop connecting directly using ethernet. I am also receiving a strong signal from the airport base station. Please help. Thank you.

Try the following, in order, until resolved:
    1. If the modem has a reset switch, use it to reset the modem. Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the modem to initialize.
    2. Remove power from the modem. If it has a backup battery, remove this as well. Wait 5-10 minutes. Replace the battery, and add power back to the modem.
    3. Perform a complete power recycle of your network components as follows:
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
o Power-off the modem, AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS), & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
o Power-off the modem, AEBS, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
    4. Contact your ISP to have them perform a "modem reset."

  • Problems connecting multiple macs to an Airport Extreme network.

I think this problem is similar to a previous post, but is individual in some ways.
I have 2 Airport Extreme basestations covering a large flat connected by Ethernet extending a single network. I did try to extend the network wirelessly, but this was plagued with problems where the network would work for 10 mins, then drop out as I think the basestations are slightly too far apart.
Connected to the network are a number of machines:
Wirelessly we have 3x iPhones, 1x G4 Cube, 1x iMac (current model), 2x MacBook Pro (previous model) & 1x PC.
Wired via a hub is an Apple TV, PS3, Nintendo Wii, Denon Home Cinema Amp, PS2
For aprox 6 months I have had major problems connecting all the wireless machines at the same time. I have played around with the security as per previous posts with varying degrees of success.
I seem to have the most problems with the iMac. The iMac will not join the network when there is any form of wireless security. Every time I try to set up a password it hangs when trying to join and I finally get the "There was a error joining xxxx network".
After more playing around I managed to get all the machines working by having no security on the network and locking the network down by MAC addresses.
Since last Thursday I now have a new problem. The iMac joins and stays on the network perfectly, but the second my second MacBook Pro is switched on and joins the network, the internet connection on the iMac drops out. In addition, as we use the iMac as a media server, all other machines connected to the iMac for either file sharing or iTunes sharing then get the error "the remote machine is failing to respond. Please check firewall settings if there are any". What is strange is that the iMac remains on the network, full signal, independent IP address and the second the MacBook Pro is switched off, works perfectly again.
I have tried wiping both the iMac & the MacBook Pro and re-installing their operating systems, but this only solves the problem for aprox 24 hours then all of a sudden the issue re-appears.
    Can anyone out there help?

Let's double-check the AirPort Express Base Station's (AX) settings ...
Perform a "factory default" reset of the AX
    o (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044)
Either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, check the following settings:
    AirPort > Base Station
o Base Station Name: <rename or leave default>
    o Base Station Password: <enter desired password>
    o Verify Password: <re-enter desired password>
o Remember this password in my keychain: (optional)
    o Set time automatically: (unchecked)
    AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
    o Network Name: <existing AEBSn's wireless network>
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
o Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
    Music
    o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    o Verify Password: (optional)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

  • Mac fails to connect to non-Apple wireless network (& changing channel?)

[sorry to post this in two forums - I think I posted it in the wrong one before]
I have a wireless network set up from a Netgear wireless router. My Windows XP computer automatically connects to the network every time. But my Mac (OS X 10.4.11) only connects about 50% of the time. The rest of the time it says "None of your trusted wireless networks could be found." Then when I click the airport icon in top right and select the network from the list, it says "There was an error joing the Airport network [network name]." When I click "Try again" a few times, it sometimes eventually connects, but other times it fails repeatedly. It is completely unpredictable.
I have been looking for solutions on the internet. Lots of other people have problems connecting Macs to non-Apple wireless networks. But no one else seems to have this exact problem: my Mac connects some of the time, but not all. Anyone have any suggestions?
(One idea I found was to change the channel that the Mac tries to use. How do I do this? I can't find "channel" anywhere under System Preferences - Network - Airport.)
All OSs are fully updated, so that is not the problem.

I travel extensively, and both my I-Mac G5 and Intel MacBook are very inconsistent in this regard. I do not think it is a router issue given the variety of networks I try to access. Additionally frustrating once a connection is made is that Internet Connect or Network Status will say I am connected to the Internet via Airport, yet Safari and Mail say I am not connected to the Internet.
Network Diagnostics has never had an answer. More often than not i end up using my cellular card. but the Mac often has issues with that too... sporadic like first poster describes.

  • Trying to connect our exercise bike to our wireless network.  It sees the network, but once pass phrase is put in, it won't connect.  Any suggestions?  We have an Airport Extreme.

I am trying to connect our exercise bike to our wireless network.  It sees the network, but once pass phrase is put in, it won't connect.  Their tech support said the problem is with the router and we may need to open ports 80, 443 and 4348.  We have an AirPort Extreme and I scanned for open ports and found 80 already open but the others are not.  Tried using Port Mapping, putting the port number 443 in both the Public UDP and TCP fields and the Private UDP and TCP fields also.  The Private IP address defaulted to 10.0.1.201 which is right outside of the DHCP range.  Will this be the IP of the bike or should I change it to something else?  Are the values I put in the fields totally wrong?  Bike is still not connecting.  Thanks for any help!

    Here's an update:
Now the light is not blinking. It's a solid, consistant green. I don't know if it helps to narrow it down or anything, but I just figured I'd mention it.
