"Unable to connect to data Source" SRSS Report building on a windows 7 workstation

I have the is error when tring to up date my SRSS reports.  We recently had our dba reissue the Certificate for our SCCM SQL server and now when I export that certificate and load it in the Trusted Root of any Workstation or any store
on the workstation - I still get the trusted root error??
"The Certificate Chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted:"
"A connection was successfully established wit the server.  but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider:
SSL Provider, error 0 - The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.)"
I am using HTTP: for report server connections.
I had no issues exporting the SQL Server Certificate in the past and importing to computers trusted Root store.  Now when I do this the error still appears and I can not edit my SRSS reports in SCCM.  The Primary SCCM 2012 Server is also the SQL
server and SRSS reporting server in production.
Where do I go from here?
Help Please!
Thank you

Most likely ntlm version issue, you need to change the registry on win7
machines,

  • Report Builder - Unable to connect to data source

When I attempt to connect to the data source in Report Builder 3.0 with CM 2012, I receive the following error message: A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: SSL Provider,
error: 0 - The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.)
Any suggestions on how to help?

You also need it on the client machine running report builder.  Here's the instructions I sent my DBA:
    Start>run>mmc>file>add/remove snapins>certificate>Computer Account>Local Computer>Certificates>Personal>Certificates>Issued to: Name of server
Look at each cert.  On the 3rd tab (Certification Path) it should say “ConfigMgr SQL Server Identification
    Certificate”.  Export that cert.
Then on the machine running report builder, import the certificate to the local computer trusted root.
Perfect ... Finally following this instruction solve reporting connection error and reporting services is now running perfectly.

    Hi,
i had the same problem. First we figured out, that the Report Builder was working in the  Root Site Collection of a Web Application but not in any other Site Collection of the WebApplication.
After that we took a look how the Report Builder is started. The Content Type got a Click Once Application as Template, but you can't open the URL in the Browser neither the referenced file can be found in the Feature folder on the SharePoint Server. Turns
out SharePoint does some crazy http redirection and that this doesn't work on Site Collections which are not at the root. At least if you installed Reporting Services Add In Service Pack 1.
Fun Fact: If you start the Report Builder on the Root Site Collection you can create a Report which works on any Site Collection. Its just the launch if the Report Builder which is broken.
Our Solution was the SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 1 Cumulative Update 8 which fixed the Problem.
You can request a download here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2917531
Select the "2012_SP1_RSShrPnt_CU8_2917531_11_0_3401_x64" Fix and install it on every SharePoint Server in your Farm.

    Hi Ali,
According to the current description, the issue may occur because SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services add-in feature for SharePoint 2013 isn’t installed correctly.
To resolve the issue, you need to reinstall add-in feature for SharePoint 2013.

  • Unable to Connect to the Data Source with Report Builder when using a closed Excel file

I am using Report Builder 3.0 and to get started I am using an Excel spreadsheet as my data source.  I set this up just fine.  I can connect successfully if the file is open Excel.  But if I close the file, I get the error "Unable to
    Connect to the data source".
    This is my connection string:
    Dsn=Licenses;dbq=C:\USERS\AMEADE\DOCUMENTS\licenses.xlsx;defaultdir=C:\USERS\AMEADE\DOCUMENTS;driverid=790;fil=excel 8.0;maxbuffersize=2048;pagetimeout=5
Works fine if the file is open but stops working when the file is closed.  Any idea what I can do?

    Hi Alice,
Based on my understanding, when you keep the Excel file open, you can connect to the data source correctly. But when you close the Excel file, the error “Unable to Connect to the data source” is thrown out.
In your scenario, I would like to know if only this Excel comes across this issue. Have you experienced the same issue when you use other Excel files as a data source? As we tested in our environment, we can connect to the data source whether the Excel file
is open. You can refer to this
article to create a data source again then check if you can connect to the data source when the Excel file is closed.
If issue persists, I would suggest you use the
Process Monitor to capture the processes during the connection to the data source. Then check the result of each process to find the exact reason.
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • Progress Reporter - Failed to connect to data source

Installed Progress Reporter and successfully call up the configuration page (http://WLS_server_name:7001/pr/admin/configuration) fill out the Database URL with the URL I use in SQL Developer (jdbc:oracle:thin:@db_Server_Name:1521:primavera) Public Group ID: 1 username: pubuser and password: pubuser. I put nothing in the Application Server section. When I click on save I get the message "Failed to connect to data source, please verify your settings and try again." I know the URL is correct as it connects using SLQ Developer. I have also created a datasource and pool using the same parameters just to validate the connection URL in different products.
Now I do get errors when starting up WebLogic
    1) java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\prhome\primavera-configuration.properties ...
    2) Local Exception Stack: Exception [EclipseLink-7042] (Eclipse Persistence Services - 1.1.0.r3639-SNAPSHOT): org.eclipse.persistence.exceptions.ValidationException Exception Description: Database platform class [${databasePlatform}] not found...
    3) Exception in thread "timerFactory" org.springframework.transaction.CannotCreateTransactionException: Could not open JPA EntityManager for transaction; ...
    4) A number of these: Exception Description: Database platform class [${databasePlatform}] not found....
I am running on Windows 2008-r2 using WebLogic (64bit) and Java 1.6.0_27 (64bit); Progress Reporter installed in its own domain on a standalone (not managed) weblogic server
I've checked the configuration steps in the documentation (especially for the setDomainEnv.cmd and the PRE_CLASSPATH settings)
    Any suggestions appreciated.
Are any of the errors (1 through 4) causing the issue of being unable to connect to the data source?

I have tried both privuser and pubuser. Both username/password combinations work when using sql-developer but not through the database section on the P6 Progress Reporter configuration web page.
I don't login as admin. When I enter the URL http://WLS_server_name:7001/pr/admin it comes up with the configuration screen that has the database and application server configuration sections.
The file primavera-configuration.properties is not created. If I create a blank file that removes the "java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\prhome\primavera-configuration.properties ..." message but it doesn't get any content.
    Thanks,
    Greg

  • Helpdesk Report Group Users - Cannot create a connection to data source 'DataSource1'

Getting the following error for a User accessing the report who is a member of the reporting group. If I add them as a sysadmin in SQL they can get access. What permissions need changing for this user group?
Cannot create a connection to data source 'DataSource1'. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user

    Dave,
For a complete understanding of the permission and groups, I would rather suggest you to do the installation of the MBAM components in a single server infrastructure in a test environment.
Create the following domain security groups and use it during the configuration of the MBAM roles:-
    1) MBAM Advanced Helpdesk Users
    2) MBAM Helpdesk Users
    3) MBAM Report Users
    4) MBAM Read and Write Access
    5) MBAM Read Only Access.
Create an application pool account and create a login in SQL for it. Use it only during:-
    1) Configuration of "Compliance and Audit Database connection"
    2) Configuration for All Web Applications.
If your application pool account is not a domain administrator, the run the following powershell command to set the service principal name :-
    Setspn
    -s http//<FQDN of MBAM Web Server> domain\<Application pool account>
Make sure the application pool account must be trusted for delegation.
That's all you need to do. Then after the installation you can check the properties of each group in SQL to verify the rights and permission assigned during the installation.

    Kenny_I

    Hi Kenny_I,
As per my understanding, I think this issue may be caused by your colleague has no permission to access to data source 'EntityDataSource', it is a Kerberos issue. When report server uses ‘Windows authentication (integrated) or SharePoint user’ as the credentials
to access the data source 'EntityDataSource', the authentication would be failed.  So we should try to check if the issue is in this scenario. If in this case, we should change the credentials to stored credentials.
Besides, if we don’t configure C2WTS Service Account to use Local System, it needs the following local policy rights:
Act as part of the operating system.
    Impersonate a client after authentication.
    Log on as a service.
For more details, please refer to the following blog:
    http://www.codeovereasy.com/2014/01/powerview-report-fails-no-credentials-are-available-in-the-security-package/
    Hope this helps.

  • Data source for report

    Hi guys.
Can somebody let me know how to set data source for report?
    I did import "import.zip" and "bootstrp.zip".
    I did run "HFPBMMAK.PRO".
I did create model connection of "HFPBM"
    Best Regards,
    Chul.

    Chul,
You only have to import either import.zip OR the bootstrap.zip, not both.
I don't know if you have SSM 7.5 or SSM 10, this will be for 7.5
If you have followed the set-up correctly, you should be able to open the demolauncher -
    http://localhost:50000/strategy/pilotworks/demolauncher.htm
    Where localhost = server 50000 = port
You should open the Administrator interface of your demo and Set Scorecard Defaults. For a context make sure that the PAS Model Connection is set for the model connection you set - HFPBM.
You also need to make sure that Manage Application Groups have your user added for the context you selected.
(For 10 the application groups are managed in NetWeaver)
    Regards,
    Bob

  • BOFC Unable to start the data source

    Hi there,
i've done a standalone install using SQL 2008 R2 express. But i'm unable to start the data source and get this error:
    Failed to start data source
Failed to start server instances on machine DELL1.
Failed to initialize server configured on machine DELL1.
    Class not registered
    Thanks,
    Anees

    Ok, problem solved.
I had to create a seperate DCOM user and assign it to the following roles in windows:
log on as a batch job
    log on as a service
then assign this DCOM user to the Ctbroker and CTserver. As i'm not running this on a domain, there was no need to use 'packet level authentication'. So i set the authentication level to none.
There was no need to use the web based admin interface. Ctadmin.msc worked perfectly.
    Thanks,
    Anees
