Unable to install printer driver

I am settting up my new printer and can't complete the task.
I attempt to download the software and keep getting a message that the device is not detected. Please help
Thank you

@Bstraub, Welcome to the HP Forums!
I saw the message about the printer not being detected when you attempt to install it, and I will certainly help you. I am going to ask that you please let me know some more helpful information to help me research the problem for you to get started.
If there are any steps here that you have not tried, please try them before responding and include the result:
Which connection type are you using to install the printer (USB/ wireless/ wired/ Bluetooth)?
What is the Operating System of the computer?
Will the printer make copies successfully?
What Firewalls and Anti-virus software are installed?
Have you tried disabling or uninstalling them?
If you're running Windows, run the Print and Scan Doctor and include the results.
Is the printer plugged directly into the wall outlet (avoiding power bars and surge protectors)?
Have you completed all Windows/Mac OS Updates?
Have you tried using a USB/Ethernet cable to install the printer instead of wireless, and if so, have you tried a different cable?
If you are installing wireless, try power cycling the network devices:
Turn off the printer and computer and unplug the router for 1 minute (do not press any buttons on the router).
Plug the router back in and wait another minute, next turn on the printer and computer and try the installation again.
I look forward to hearing back from you! If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts to help you, please click the thumbs up icon down below!

  • "unable to install printer, the RCP failed" installing Canon D1180 printers on Server 2012

    Hello,
We are getting error "unable to install printer, the remote procedure call failed" attempting to install 2 Canon D1180 multi-function printers on a MS Server 2012.  We have 2 print servers.  Attempting to install the printer generates the same error on both servers and kills the spool service on one of them.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hi Patrice,
I appreciate your relpy.  The error is happening on our print server (not client side) while creating the printer object.  It's a Windows Server 2012 64bit Standard installation.
RPC is running and is set to automatic.   We have 2 Canon D1180s accounted for thus far and the error appears to be isolated to this particular printer driver.
We currently have 160 total printers on the server and aren't experiencing that error with any of the others.  Checking logs at the time of the error doesn't provide any additional insite.
I am able to install the same network printer from a client workstation (Windows 7 64bit) using the same driver without having to the do the workaround mentioned above.
    Thank You!

I've been using Mac OS X 10.6.4. I want to install printer driver of Brother DCP -7030 .I tried it online I could not do it. Would you help me providing suggestions. It would be great help.
    Dinesh from Nepal

Mac OS X 10.6.8 is the current incarnation of Snow Leopard, and fixes various issues in earlier releases.
Current versions of Mac OS X 10.6 include the necessary printer driver for the Brother DCP-7030 printer (HT3669).  (The asterisk footnote on that printer indicates there was a recent update via Software Update, so get to current 10.6.8 and ensure the Brother printer software update has been selected and loaded.)
If you're on the current Mac OS X version and if have the Brother update loaded (from Apple) and if problems with the printer persist, then remove the printer from your current Mac OS X configuraton, and re-add it, and see if that clears the particular issue(s) you're having with this printer.
From experience, the Brother software for Mac OS X is a little odd, and the older software stuff (and particularly around the scanner controls for their multi-function series) were, um, unusual, and a little unstable.  Printing generally worked fine, though.  Recent versions of the Brother software are working better including for the scaller, but the UIs and the set-up are both still odd.  If you're using the box as a printer (I haven't looked at the DCP-7030 features), then you're best using the Brother software that arrives from Apple and not the software from Brother.
Also ensure the printer firmware is current.  That's corrected some odd behavior on some Brother printers.

  • 0x0000007a, Unable to install Printer

We have an HP DesignJet 500 on our network that is shared via a Windows 2003 Server for our CAD users. When the users connect via our VPN to our RDP server (Windows 2008 Standard R2), the users do not see the printer on our network and cannot map the printer.  I
have made multiple attempts to first map the HP DesignJet on the RDP server ( I have local admin rights), each time resulting in the error message "Windows cannot connect to the printer."  There is nothing in the windows logs with further information.
I installed the DesignJet on another Windows 2008 Standard R2 server successfully and tried to map to it from the RDP server and I get the same error.  I have downloaded the newest drivers from HP for Server 2008.
I have also attempted to install the HP DesignJet on the RDP server, first using the IP address of the printer, then using slash slash ServerName slash PrinterName, slash slash serverIP slash PrinterName,.  (links were not permitted in this box)
All have ended with the same error:  "Unable to install printer.  Operation could not be completed (error 0x0000007a)."  How can I get this printer installed so it can be used via the RDP server?
    Thank you for your assistance.

    This is the error
    C:\>winerror 0x0000007a
       122 ERROR_INSUFFICIENT_BUFFER
       122 ERROR_INSUFFICIENT_BUFFER
Not a clue what's happening on the RDP server.  Failure adding as a local printer as you did on the other 2008R2 machine seems extremely odd.
Since locally and connection fails, I suggest taking a look at the spooler file structure for recursive directories

  • HP Envy 5532 Printer - unable to install a driver with full functionality

Hi we have purchased a HP Envy 5532 all-in-one and were advised (and as stated on the packaging) that it will print 2 sided automatically.
So far we have followed the instructions on various sites but we do not appear to have the option in the printer's Preferences  to be able to select 2 sided printing from the drop down list on the layout screen as there is no drop down list in there to select from as illustrated in the screen grab below:
The options to the left of the screen grab allow me to select a manual 2 sided option where it will prompt us to reload the paper manually but no automatic options?
Our operating system is: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit and we have been on www.hp.com and downloaded the appropriate driverfor this environment.
The driver currently installed is: HP Envy 5530 Series Class Driver - the driver would not install off the disk which came with the printer so this was the recommended official download via the HP website
We have run the HP Print and Scan Doctor supplied on HP Connected it found issues with the driver "the Driver does not have full functions installed" and attempted to download a fully featured driver - this has failed again and again.... to load
We then downloaded and ran the "HP Installation failure unknown device" application and followed this to the letter 5 times!!! all this did was to stop the printer working at all. It ran until the install stage and then it keeps coming up unable to install on network - the printer is there on our network with an IP address???
We disabled all Firewalls and ran the install without any start up items running via misconfig options as directed but still it fails at the same point on installation.
We had to uninstall all HP drivers and let the PC "add a printer" via the Control Panel options which it has and we are able to print again but we do not have full functionality as we still can not print automatic 2 sided copies and when we run HP Print and Scan Doctor it still recognises that we do not have full functionality!!!
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks  Steve

    @Steve_Reeder, welcome to the Community
I read through your post about how you do not have access to the full software and options for your Envy 5532, as the Full Feature driver is not installing successfully on your Windows 8.1 system. I saw that you have tried various troubleshooting steps, such as a Clean Boot (msconfig), the Print and Scan Doctor, etc.
I will do my best to make some helpful suggestions to you to try out.
It seems as though you are trying to install on your network, could you possibly try installing the printer as a USB connection, and afterwards converting the USB connection to wireless through the HP software (applies to wireless connection and not ethernet)? If you're installing ethernet, skip this suggestion.
You could also try installing the printer under a Clean Boot (msconfig) and turn off your firewall, under a new user account with Admin Privileges, to see if that will work.
Another idea would be to run the System File Checker to see if this scan will pick up any issues:
Using System File Checker to Restore System Files
Please let me know your findings thus far, and if you notice any error messages or codes, let me know all of the details.
I hope to hear from you, enjoy your Wednesday

  • Unable to install twain driver for Epson scanner -- Leopard

I finally got the printer driver working for my Epson CX6600.
Downloaded the correct driver from the Epson website and all is fine.
But now my scanner won't work.
    The CX6600 is an all-in-one.
The Twain Scanner Driver was paired up in the same download.
However, after downloading the installer file I was unable to install it.
The cursor just spins and spins -- and I then get a repeated warning window asking if I want to open this software downloaded from the Internet.
I have to do a Force Quit to get out of the installer app.
    Ideas?

    Hi,
When I trie to install my HP Laserjet P1102 printer, i only get the message 'The disk you inserted is not readable by this computer' when plugging the USB cable in. I am unable to install the printer. Anyone who can help me?

just copy n' paste that into your browser's URL address bar, or go to hp.com and look for your model number
then choose your operating system, and download the driver. I forget which order you're supposed to do this-install the driver first then plug in the printer, or plug in the printer first, then install the driver. Oh, and Timothy Verheyen, it'd be a great help if you told us what kind of Mac you have and what OS it's running (10.5/10.6/10.7 or 10.8), plus any other info that you think would be helpful. the cd could be scratched or the installer on the cd could be out of date. Anyways, boogie over to wherever, and grab the driver

Heh... I had competely forgotten that I had done that, so now I feel morally obliged to help you.
I just tried a rebuild against 2.6.22 and it failed, but after a little digging around, I found a patch, and now it builds. I can't tell you if it works or not, as I don't have the hardware.
Get the new package in the same place as before, and let me know how it goes.
It's worth noting that this code is 6 months old at this stage, and the project doesn't seem to be very active. There's one 4-mail thread about it on lkml.org, with no indication that this will ever be merged to mainline.

  • Windows update error 800f0246 when installing printer driver

I have Win 7 pro 64 bit and an HP3520 printer.  HP site says a Windows 7 driver is available via windows update.  When I go into Windows update, the drivers shows up under optional downloads.  When I try to download and install it it fails with error code 800f0246.  All other updates install fine.  I tried multiple times with the same error.
When I go into device manager the printer is listed under other devices with an icon indicating a driver issue.  When I try to update the driver it finds the downloaded driver that Windows update downloaded.  I select it and it fails.
I have Windows 7 beta still on my laptop and the printer driver installs from windows update just fine.
    Any ideas?

No go.  Uninstalled, rebooted, tried to reinstall again, still failed.  Fails when the printer is disconnected as well.  The HP site does not have a driver for manual install.  Any links for a driver lead to here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01874792&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=305968    Those steps do not work because the driver in windows update fails to install.
