Unable to perform SP 2010 SP2 to SP 2013 SP1 Upgrade using Mount-SPContentDatabase content db -DatabaseServer dbserver -WebApplication web app

We have performed our upgrade process successfully 4 times prior without issue but now we can not seem to get past this issue:
When we run this command Upgrade using Mount-SPContentDatabase STS_Content_TFS -DatabaseServer <> -WebApplication <>, we receive this error:
There is a compatibility range mismatch between the Web server and database "", and connections to the data have been blocked to due to this incompatibility. This can happen when a content database has not been upgraded to be within the compatibility
range of the Web server, or if the database has been upgraded to a higher level than the web server. The Web server and the database must be upgraded to the same version and build level to return to compatibility range.
We have tried services restarts, reboots, re-applying app poll and service accounts and even re-image of vm and nothing seems to work
We have also tried to run PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -force -cmd applicationcontent -install -cmd installfeatures and are now getting Cannot open SPTimerV4 service on computer.
Hope someone can help, we are running out of things to try to resolve this.
Many Thanks
Kim Bates

Hi Kim,
I recommend to check if the server farm account password has expired or was changed, update the server farm account password. Then, try to upgrade the server farm again.
To update the server farm account password, type the following command at an elevated command prompt and then press ENTER:
Stsadm -o updatefarmcredentials -userlogin domain\username -password password
In addition to that, you can also clear the config cache location for timer service from the below location:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\SharePoint\Config
For the detailed information about how to clear the config cache, check out the following article:

  • Error in moving exchange 2010 mailboxes to Exchange 2013 SP1 during migration

    Dear All,
We were running Exchange 2010 SP3 with MBX/HT/CAS role in single server. Now we are migrating our exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 SP1. After configuring co-existence and during the mailbox move from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 SP1, we are facing below
error. Please help to troubleshot. As per our search on net, people were suggesting that it can be due to not able to resolve NetBIOS name. We checked same and we are able to ping both servers by NetBIOS and FQDN names.

i try to perform simple query : insert into tablea select from tableb which has same structure. the source table has only 9 rows, but the process ran very long time, no error message raised,it just run and never end (which make me upset for the whole day).
i have tried another simple query : insert into table1 values (1,2) using the same driver and execute successfully.
is it becoz of function limitation since i used evaluation copy ?

Copy the answer from HXTT's support forum:
No function limitation. I just tested:
    create table testa1 select * from test;
    insert into testa1 select * from test;
    Passed.
I also run your backofficeDbfVerification.java sample. Passed too. I'm using the same code as you. The difference is only my 89964568.AA1 and 123.AA2 is simulative tables files. If possible, please zip your 89964568.AA1 and 123.AA2 and email to [email protected] Thanks.

    Regards,
    Selva

    Hi  Selva,
According to your description, my understanding is that  the InfoPath form template for Approval workflow is missing in your SharePoint 2013.
For your issue, you can check whether the form templates are available in your SharePoint farm.
Please go to Central Administration -> General Application Settings -> InfoPath Forms Services -> Manage Form Templates, make sure the Workflow form templates are existing and activated.
For more information, you can refer to the thread:

  • Exchange 2003 sp2 to exchange 2007 sp1 upgrade error

    Hi,
We had Windows 2003 DCs and Exchange 2003 servers. We migrated AD DCs to windows 2008 R2 at parent domain.
We have one parent domain and 10 child domains in remote sites .3 remote sites have been migrated to windows 2008 R2.
Now at parent domain I am trying to install exchange 2007 SP1 on a server with windows 2008 R2 SP1. I am facing certain issues:
    1. When I run setup /PrepareSchema on this new exchange server , the organization check fails with error stating that : cannot find at least one DC running windows 2003 SP1 or later in DC=xyx,DC=com. This could be the result of moving DC objects in AD. Check
that at least one DC running windows server 2003 SP1 or later is located in the "Domian Controllers" OU and rerun setup".
    2. When I try to install exchange server 2007 , I get the following error
Object cannot be saved because its ExchangeVersion property is 0.10 (14.0.100.0), which is not supported
by the current version 0.1 (8.0.535.0). You will need a later version of Exchange.".
Can any one shed light on this issue.
    Regards
    Syed
    sa

You cannot install Exchange 2007 SP1 on Windows 2008 R2 SP1 as it is unsupported.
Only version of Exchange 2007 supported when OS is Windows 2008 R2 or R2 SP1 is Exchange 2007 SP3.
Where are you installing Exchange ? child or parent domain ?
    2. When I try to install exchange server 2007 , I get the following error "Object
cannot be saved because its ExchangeVersion property is 0.10 (14.0.100.0), which is not supported by the current version 0.1 (8.0.535.0). You will need a later version of Exchange.".
Above error indicates that Exchange setup is trying to modify
a version of an object which might have been created when organization is prepared for Exchange 2010. don't you have exchange 2010 Servers already in your environment ?
Please give more information about your current email infrastructure
and whether if you are installing exchange on parent or child domain?

    Is it possible?
What are the alternatives if we exclude Exchange online protection?
Does this mean if you migrate from exchange 2010 to exchange 2013 you have "thrown your money away" for purchising forefront solution? Are there any "upgrade" forefront less-cost solution from 2010 to alternative versions?

  • HT2638 I am using OSX 10.8.5 with iPhoto 11. I have damaged my iPhoto library and am unable to open up my library with iPhoto. When I use 'open package contents' with the library, I can see that all my photos are there. Can I rebuild the events?

I have tried the option + command button while opening iPhoto but this has not helped.

Your next step would be tp try rebuild with iPhoto Library Manager and its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

    Hi Joshua.Arenz,
As per my understanding, you configured SSRS 2012 of SharePoint mode, when you click system setting in Central Admin, you got the error message.
According to the error message, the Reporting Services service application is not configured correctly. Please make sure you created service application correctly by following steps:
In SharePoint Central Administration, in the Application Management group, click Manage Service Applications.
In the SharePoint toolbar, click the New button.
In the New menu, click SQL Server Reporting Services Service Application.
In the Create SQL Server Reporting Services Service Application page, enter a name for the application.
In Application Pool section, create a new application pool for the application (recommended). Then select or create a managed account for the application pool.
In the Database Server, you can use the current server or choose a different SQL Server.
In Database Name the default value is ReportingService_<guid>, which is a unique database name. If you type a new value, type a unique value.
In Database Authentication, the default is Windows Authentication.
In the Web Application Association section, select the Web Application to be provisioned for access by the current Reporting Services Service Application.
    Click OK.
For more information about Creating a new Reporting Services Service Application, please refer to the following document:
    http://niftit.com/how-to-install-configure-reporting-services-sharepoint-2013/
If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.
    Thanks,

I ran Update-SPWOPIProofKey on the SharePoint Server; and it has seemed to fix it.
Trying to recall past events; in January we installed the latest Web Apps updates; and while troubleshooting this issue; I did as well; install the most recent Web Apps updates KB2956158.
We use the Remove-OfficeWebAppsMachine and subsequently New-OfficeWebAppsFarm each time we apply the updates.  Our environment is stand-alone.  One Exchange Server, One SharePoint Server, One Office Web Apps Server.
    Any insight is appreciated.

    Hi,
From your description, my understanding is that you got an error when you opened documents.
Please install Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2, compare the result.

  • Coexistence & Upgrade Exchange 2010 SP3 Unified Messaging to Exchange 2013 SP1 UM

    Hello Experts,
    We're doing Exchange 2010 SP3 to Exchange 2013 SP1 upgrade.
This upgrade also include Unified Messaging component which is currently working with Exchange 2010 SP3 and Lync 2013.
We have one dial plan and its SIP URI and Secured.
Looking for high level steps to plan coexistence and upgrade of Unified Messaging  from Exchange 2010 SP3 to Exchange 2013 SP1 integrated with Lync 2013. I'll also appreciate tips on what kind of certificate and its Subject name(s).
Microsoft documentation is not very clear and I found it confusing for my scenario. Since I we don't want any downtime for UM users, looking for some help.
    Thanks in advance for help.
    -DK

    Hello Hinte,
Thanks for the information. I have been to this article which explains fresh deployment but doesn't address coexistence and migration scenario.
I'm looking for high level steps only. Can anyone validate and suggest if I'm missing something!
    1) Install new CAS+MBX Server
    2) Move system mailbox as per MS documentation to Exchange 2013 MBX
    3) On CAS+MBX Server Enabled internal CA trusted Cert for UM Services.Internal
CA certs contain only CAS+MBX server's FQDN only.UM services Startup Mode is set to "Dual".
    4) Assigned existing SIP URI Based Exchange 2010 Dial plan to New Exchange 2013 Servers.
    5) Run Exchucutil.ps1
in Exchange 2013 and OcsUMUtil in Lync 2013 (Again?)
Will this be enough or Do I need to create New Auto attendant or
    Haunt Group etc?
    Thanks for all the help!

  • Project Server 2010 SP2 Timesheet Errors

    Hi,
We use Project Server 2010, SP2 in SEM mode. Users use IE9. Some of our users complaining that while entering timesheet, sometimes "h" for hours is auto populated next to the hours entered in the cell... and sometimes dont appear and then timesheet
freezes. Anyone have any suggestions when would this happen and any resolutions?
And some users also get the following error...
An error occurred when communicating with the server. Check connectivity with your administrator to determine whether further action is necessary", then attempt to approve TimeSheet"
    Please suggest.
    Kishore Dodda

Let us know what turns up. It certainly looks like you are losing connectivity. The other possibility is that your databases are in need of attention. Ask your SQL DBAs whether they are following best practices for Database management and have a SQL maintenance
plan running on the Project Server databases.

  • Outlook 2010 SP2 - Error when editing shared calendar: Post Exchange 2013 CU2 Migration

    Hi there,
I have a strange comportment with Outlook 2010 SP2 and Exchange 2013 CU2 and i really need your help.
Frequently, when an user (who has the good permissions for) want to edit a shared calendar (edit a meeting or add one), he has this error message:
" Cannot display the folder. Your server administrator has limited the number of items you can open simultaneously. Try closing message you have opened or removing attachments and images from unsent messages you are composing "
I see anything in the Exchange server event log but i have each time, an error message in the client event log:
    " Microsoft Office14 Alerts ID 300"
Everything work very well with Outlook 2013.
Many thanks in advance for your assistance, and I am looking forward to reading from you.

    Hi,
According to your description, the issue is related to your Office 2010 client.
And the issue can be resolved by installing the Microsoft Office 2010 Deployment Kit.
Here are the steps you can refer to :
    1. Open a command prompt with administrative permissions.
    2. Browse to the directory that contains the Offvirt.msi.
    3. At the command prompt, run the following command:
    msiexec /i OffVirt.msi [licensing flags]
You must enter a correct licensing flag in the following list to correctly configure the Deployment Kit. Otherwise, functionality may be incorrect.
For more information, you can refer to the following article:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/virtualworld/archive/2010/07/07/microsoft-has-encountered-an-error-with-licensing-and-will-need-to-close.aspx
If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.
    Thanks,

  • Unable to create web app with PowerShell - An update conflict has occurred

I am trying to create a new Web Application using PowerShell. I need to use PowerShell because I need to create the Web App using classic authentication and not Claims authentication. the first time I created the Web App, everything went great. Ever since
the first time, I get an error and the web app creation does not complete. Just as an FYI, I can create a new Web App using Central Admin, but that creates it with Claims authentication which I cannot use.
    Here is my PowerShell script
    New-SPWebApplication -Name "SharePoint2013 (82)" -ApplicationPool "SharePoint2013-82" -AuthenticationMethod "NTLM" -ApplicationPoolAccount (Get-SPManagedAccount "GLOBAL\SP_AppPool") -Port 82 -URL "http://sharepoint2013"
Here is the error I get in PowerShell
New-SPWebApplication : An update conflict has occurred, and you must re-try this action. The object SPWebApplication
Name=SharePoint2013 (82) was updated by DOMAIN\SP_Administrator, in the powershell (13020) process, on machine SPWEB01.
View the tracing log for more information about the conflict.

The DELETE statement conflicted with the REFERENCE constraint "FK_Dependencies1_Objects". The conflict occurred in database "SP_Config", table "dbo.Dependencies", column 'ObjectId'.
    The statement has been terminated.
I also get  this error from the trace
Unknown SQL Exception 547 occurred. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below.
The DELETE statement conflicted with the REFERENCE constraint "FK_Dependencies1_Objects". The conflict occurred in database "SP_Config", table "dbo.Dependencies", column 'ObjectId'.
    The statement has been terminated.
I have tried to resolve the issue by performing the following:
Delete the partially created web app using Central Admin or PowerShell
Clear the file system cache on all servers in the farm (Stopping wss timer job, Saving Copy of the
cache.ini file from C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\application data\Microsoft\SharePoint\Config folder. Clearing all the .xml files from the location except cache.ini but Edit the cache.ini to have value 1. Starting the timer job)
Use Products Configuration Wizard (no detach, just 'upgrade') - People have said to select the option to disconnect the server from server farm and revert back again at next step (so you actually do not disconnect), but there is no next step that I have
encountered. You select 'disconnect', hit next, and the server disconnects.
Restart all the servers in the farm
Run the PowerShell script again...still get the same error
I have tried it on multiple servers in the farm too.

    Hi Michael,
I found a similar thread for you reference:

If it doesn’t work, sometimes the issue might be caused by long time keep powershell opening and generating some cache files. So please try re-opening the powershell and test the issue again.

  • Migrate Sharepoint Foundation 2010 to Sharepoint Foundation 2013

    Hello,
I wonder if there is any way to migrate the site collection from Sharepoint Foundation 2010  to Sharepoint Foundation 2013 SP1?
    thanks in advance:
    szabszi

    Hi szabszi,
The native SharePoint DB Attach Upgrade Method does allow you to pick and choose which site collections to upgrade after the DB has been attached (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/25125.sharepoint-2013-powershell-to-copy-or-update-list-items-across-sharepoint-sites-and-farms.aspx
There are also other software vendors that provide more robust migration options. My company, AvePoint, is one of them. You can use the url in my signature to visit our site.
Please Mark Answered if my reply solves your problem. Thanks!

  • Cannot save any changes - Microsoft Forefront 2010 for exchange is unable to perform the requested function

HI, I have Forefront 2010 for Exchange installed for an Exchange 2007 SP2 running on Windows 2003 x64 SP2. Exchange has all roles installed on the same server.
When I try to save any change on Forefront I got the following message:
Microsoft Forefront 2010 for Exchange is unable to perform the requested function. This may be because Forefront services are unavailable. Ensure that all Microsoft Forefront services are running and that WindowsPower Shell is functional
Well, our FF services are running and PowerShell is functional. I checked some forums and found some problems when there is entries in the IP Allow / Block lists in Exchange UI. I removed those entries but problem remains.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Xavier Villafuerte

In my case, I was able to work around this issue by using  PowerShell directly.  For example, to run an on-demand scan for all mailboxes, this worked:
    #open EMS
    $aliases = (get-mailbox -result unlimited).alias
    Add-PsSnapin FSSPSSnapin
    set-FseOnDemandScan -MailboxList $aliases
    Start-FseOnDemandScan -EnableVirusScan $true
    Windows 2008 R2 SP1
    Exchange 2010 SP3, RU9
PowerShell 4.0 present on the machine (though EMS runs PS 2.0)
