Unable to reconnect afp share - "sosend failed for request" error

I use rsync to synchronize an Xserve G5 (2 x2 Ghz - Mac OS X 10.3.9) from a Windows 2000 Server.
I use a script to reconnect a network share hosted by the w2k server. today system.log indicates the following lines :
Jan 11 11:53:19 XserveStudio kernel: AFP_VFS afpfs UserCommand: sosend failed for request 32
Jan 11 11:53:19 XserveStudio kernel: AFP_VFS afpfs_Reconnect started /Volumes/Studio
Jan 11 11:53:19 XserveStudio kernel: AFP_VFS afpfs_Reconnect: Wrong version 4 or no more attempts 0
I am unable to remount the share with the Finder but I can mount another share of the same server
Any idea ?
Xserve G5 2 x 2Ghz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

i had a similar problem the other day at a client's office. the solution seemed to be to remove a faulty switch between the workstation and the server.
connecting the cat5 directly to an available wall jack allowed the user to reconnect right away. before that, she was unable to reconnect after getting disconnected, and the Finder would hang, rendering the Mac useless.
how does your script connect to the server? do you explicitly use afp://... or some other syntax?

  • Constantly getting "Reopen for Clustered Client Failover registered application has failed for FileObject " error in CCFilter eventlog.

    Hi everybody.
    Hope somebody will be able to help me with the following issue.
    I have the following environment configuration:
    1. WFC cluster (cluster1) contains 3 nodes - sql1,sql2,sql3
    2. sql1 and sql2 can run single shared instance SQL server
    3. Node sql3 is a standalone SQL server.
    4. AlwaysON is turned on shared instance and standalone SQL servers and availability group have been configured for multiple DBs. So sql3 is a replica of shared instance.
    5. All this runs on Vmware as a virtual machine.
    I'm  constantly getting following error in Microsoft-Windows-CCFFilter/Operational logfile when I execute SQL DB/Transaction log backup maintenance plan on my shared instance SQL server (sql1 or sql2):
    Log Name:      Microsoft-Windows-CCFFilter/Operational
    Source:        Microsoft-Windows-CCFFilter
    Date:          10/24/2014 6:00:12 AM
    Event ID:      2000
    Task Category: None
    Level:         Error
    Keywords:
    User:          DOMAIN\wfcsqlsvc
    Computer:      SQL1
    Description:
    Reopen for Clustered Client Failover registered application has failed for FileObject 0xfffffa801cbb08a0 to \SQL3\Backups\Logs\DB1\DB1_backup_2014_10_24_060003_3960528.trn with status 0xC0000034
    Getting multiple mentioned errors for every single DB I'm running my backup maintenance plan against. The maintenance plan gets executed on SQL1 which is shared instance machine.
    Any ideas of what can cause this and how to fix it.
    Thanks in advance.

    Yes. I'm doing backup on primary replica in the AlwaysOn Availability Group. And this primary replica itself is a WFC shared SQL instance.
    I've double checked Maintenance Plan's History and Agent's logs. No Error, no warning, nothing. And by the way DB full and transaction log backups gets created as they should. By that I mean that 'For availability databases, ignore Replica Priority for Backup
    and Backup on Primary Settings' property is turned on and this allows me to do backups from primary replica.
    As you've written I've clear the maintenance plan setting ''For availability databases, ignore Replica Priority for Backup and Backup on Primary Settings.', and configure the availability group's AUTOMATED_BACKUP_PREFERENCE setting to allow backup from any
    replica for certain availability group. But still nothing. Getting the same error.
    This is how AVG1 are configured regarding Backup preferences:
    For example this subplan from Maintenance plan cause mentioned errors:

    Hi Rafi,
    1. I am guessing the session ID used in your request is no longer valid when you use it.
    2. Are you able to get any response w/o those session IDs. Does the webservice work w/o any values?

  • SP Products Config Wizard fails for Socket Error Connection Refused - New Azure Setup (firewalls turned off)

    Hi all,
    I'm using this guide: "Step-by-Step: Build a FREE SharePoint 2013 Dev/Test Lab in the Cloud with Windows Azure Infrastructure Services" by Keith Mayer 15 Jul 2013 6:30 AM over on TechNet.
    And I'm currently in "Exercise 5: Configure SharePoint Server 2013 in a Windows Azure VM" steps 16/17.
    When I try to create a new server farm following those instructions, the process fails.
    The dialog window states:
    "Configuring SharePoint Products"
    "Performing configuration task 3 of 10" <- gets stuck here for a while and then I get the error below:
    The error from the PSCDiagnostics log is:
    Trying to see if port 14387 is free on machine [my sp server]. Min port we will try is 1024, Max port we will try is 49151

(provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The semaphore timeout period has expired.) ---> System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception (0x80004005): The semaphore timeout period has expired
    I've turned Windows firewall off on the SP Server, SQL Server and the AD Server (temporarily of course) and I've given user mydomain\sp_farm local and domain administrative rights as well as full rights within the SQL db.
    I can ping from/to the SharePoint/SQL servers and get a response using the host name for each (the internal IP's 10.0.0.5/6 respond).  If I use the DNS server names, the pings fail.
    However, after the SharePoint wizard fails, I can see on the SQL server that db SharePoint_Config (default name from SP wizard) is created.  So it looks like the SP wizard can connect because the db is being created.
    Is this a timeout issue even though the log file shows "SocketError ConnectionRefused"?
    Any ideas on how I can resolve this error?
    Thanks.

    Hi Gary,
    For this issue, I'm trying to involve someone familiar with this topic to further look at it.
    There might me some time delay. Thank you for your understanding.
    Thanks

  • Wsdl validation fails for request message payload from custom schema

    Hello. I am having a problem which I cannot seem to work around. I have defined a schema to serve as a template for the request message payload of a bpel process. The schema is very simple:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <xs:schema xmlns:logininfo="http://sru/logininfo" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:sru="http://sru/profile" targetNamespace="http://sru/logininfo" elementFormDefault="qualified" attributeFormDefault="unqualified">
         <xs:import namespace="http://sru/profile" schemaLocation="http://sru/profile.xsd"/>
         <xs:element name="logininfo" type="logininfo:logininfoType">
              <xs:annotation>
                   <xs:documentation>Needed information for SRU Login</xs:documentation>
              </xs:annotation>
         </xs:element>
         <xs:complexType name="logininfoType">
              <xs:all>
                   <xs:element name="email" type="sru:emailType"/>
                   <xs:element name="password">
                        <xs:simpleType>
                             <xs:restriction base="xs:string">
                                  <xs:maxLength value="32"/>
                             </xs:restriction>
                        </xs:simpleType>
                   </xs:element>
                   <xs:element name="product" type="xs:string"/>
                   <xs:element name="ip" type="sru:ipType"/>
                   <xs:element name="timestamp" type="xs:dateTime"/>
                   <xs:element name="xpath" type="xs:string"/>
              </xs:all>
         </xs:complexType>
    </xs:schema>
    (The schema depends on another, which I have placed at the end of this message).
    I import it into the bpel process designer with no problems.
    Upon defining the payload of the request message type to be the {http://sru/logininfo}logininfoType, the WSDL file does not validate anymore:
    Validating WSDL...
    Validating E:\OraBPELPM_1\integration\jdev\jdev\mywork\SRU\BPELProcess5\BPELProcess5.wsdl
    Schema type not found: QName(http://sru/logininfo, logininfoType)
    Validate WSDL: has errors.
    Any ideas?

    Hi, I'm trying to submit a podcast feed but the "enable byte range requests" error shows, I'm in the full control of the server so I've tested from another server and the header seems to be correct:

  • Reports successfully execute but generate a login failed for user 'sa' err

    I am running Crystal Reports Server XI R2. Classic ASP is used to generate embedded reports within our application. The crystal reports use ODBC to connect to a SQL Server 2005 database. The reports successfully generate in our Classic ASP application. However in SQL Server 2005,  the following error messages are being generated each time a crystal report is ran:
    - Login failed for user 'sa'.
    - Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 8.
    We know that we are passing the correct username/password to the crystal reports, becuase they execute successfully.
    It appears that when the report is called, Crystal Reports appears to conect to SQL Server using a username/password that we didn't provide it at execution time, this fails and the SQL Server 'login failed for user' is generated. Then it runs the report using the username/password we provide and it successfully generates a report.
    I have ran Profiler against the SQL Server Database and the 'Login failed for user 'sa' ' errors have a ApplicationName of either 'Seagate Crystal Reports' or 'Crystal Reports'. Therefore I know it is Crystal Reports generating these errors in SQL Server.
    Does anyone have any ideas on how to stop these SQL Server 'Login failed for user 'sa' ' errors being generated?

    What happens if you use Profiler when running the report using Crystal Report Designer?
    If the report is ran through Crystal Report Designer, NO 'Login failed for user' error messages appear in profiler. Everything looks ok when ran in Designer.
    Also, need to know what patch level you are on?
    We are running Crystal Reports Server XI Release 2, Version: 11.5.8.8265
    No additional patchs have been applied since Crystal Reports Server was installed.
    We may try the SA account if one of the connections fail to log on with the credentials you provided. Verify the user you logged on with has rights to all tables.
    The reports were running through our application using the SA account. The SA account has permissions to these tables. The reports do generate results and appear perfectly fine in the application.  The issue is that when our application requests the report from Crystal Reports Server. Crystal Reports Server delivers the correct report to our application. However during the process to generate the report, 'login failed for user 'sa' ' errors are being generated in SQL Server 2005.
    Also, I have tried creating a completely new SQL user called 'crystaluser'. I ran the report using Crystal Report Designer and used the crystaluser logon and saved the report. Then I ran the same report through our application. SQL Profiler will then display 'login failed for user 'crystaluser''.
    Its seems as though Crystal Reports Server is first executing the report using the default SQL user saved with the report, but is either sending a blank password or no password at all. This generates the 'login failed for user' in SQL Server 2005. But it then uses the SQL username/password my application gives it and successfully generates the report. Of course this is only speculation.

  • Cannot connect to newly created SQL 2008 R2 instance. Login failed for user...

    I'm not a SQL guy, just figuring my way around here...
    I just created a new instance on an existing SQL server. The original instance works fine. On
    Database Engine Configuration > Account Provisioning
    I selected Windows authentication mode and added several users, myself among them.
    Tried to log in with one my account and getting:
    TITLE: Connect to Server
    Cannot connect to SERVERNAME\INSTANCE.
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
    Login failed for user 'domain\myusername'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18456)
    Guidance/suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • Object state improper for request

    We have a serious problem with our directory servers lately. We have custom code that, on a nightly basis, collates corporate information from various sources (primarily DB2 data accessed via ODBC) into an iPlanet Directory Server 4.16 SP1 (NT4 based currently). Suddenly (over the past two weeks) we have been having replication and performance issues - some during the nightly loading but also during normal operations. At no time is the machine greatly stressed.
    A number of applications which use the directory servers to authenticate users are getting errors that the app cannot talk to the directory servers. Looking at the log files, we see a number of "Object state improper for request" errors... These programs have run fine for over 18 months no code changes have been done in over a month (an occasional glitch of course). We are unable to figure out what the error codes really are pointing to. These errors were encountered back when we ran 4.13 but during upgrades, the errors disappeared.
    Configuration:
    =========
    The servers are three (3) NT-based servers with 4 processors and 2 GB RAM - they never break a sweat performance-wise. Windows Load Balancing S/W (WLBS) is used to offer a virtual address for requests which are brokered by WLBS and returned. All connections to the directory servers are over a 128-bit SSL channel and authenticated via X.509 certificates (BindDN/password are often used in the authentication as well since few vendors use certificates for authentication at this point - not even the iPlanet Certificate Management System! aarrrggggg!).
    As a lot of applications are now dependent upon the directory servers, this is critical to us to rectify. Does anyone have
    1) a good explanation for the -5931 error code and why does it happen? (I read Achim Krisinger's post
    titled "Error code list or description for -5931 -5990" and the responses were of no help.)
    2) Any ideas as to how to go about fixing this? Getting a handle on it???
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
    Rich

    If memory serves - I think this was a bug on Windows with SSL enabled replication. It would show this error on the consumer and a SDK error ninety something (91 I think) on the supplier? Is that what you are seeing?

    Hi
    I cannot search for files in Finder on my afp shares. The server and client are both running Lion 10.7. Anything I am missing? Should this work or not? I'm so used to Spotlight I would really hate it if this isn't supported for afp shares.

    Acrobat catalog, PDX, files only work from local or network drives.
    From Acrobat's Help;
    "Moving collections and their indexes"
    "You can develop and test an indexed document collection on a local hard drive and then move the finished document collection to a network server or disk."

    I did a chmod -r 777 on the ~/Music directory already and I still haven't been able to mount it. I have read in the wiki that creating a /mnt/xboxshare directory, for example, would actually mount the share directory and allow the xbox to share. However, I would rather just use the directory I specified instead of creating another directory. Has anyone else experienced this problem or have any advice for me?
    Here is some additional information:
    I do have to input a password when I issue this command
    $ smbclient -L \\RG_ARCH
    Enter password:
    Domain=[XBOX] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.6.8]
    Sharename Type Comment
    share Disk music for xbox
    IPC$ IPC IPC Service ("Samba Server")
    rg Disk Home Directories
    Domain=[XBOX] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.6.8]
    Server Comment
    RG_ARCH Samba Server
    Workgroup Master
    XBOX RG_ARCH

    I was wondering whether it had anything to do with the network I was using. The router I am using can't access the internet and I am using the basic 192.168.1.X setup with 255.255.255.0 as the mask.
    My computer has an ip of 192.168.1.2 and the xbox has an ip of 192.168.1.3. However, I am still unable to ping the xbox or even see it show up in the network. I did notice that whenever I am using another router that is connected to the internet, I can see other windows based computers in the network tab in thunar under "windows network"
    Also, I do have a username and password associated with the samba setup.. so I assume maybe that has something do with it. I checked the permissions of the share folder and it was root:root with read and write permissions. I know samba is working fairly well.. but for whatever reason I can't get the xbox to connect even while it is on the same local network.

  • SQL Connection Failed for SCCM 2012 R2 (Unable to load user-specified certificate)

    We've recently completed an upgrade from SCCM 2012 SP1 to 2012 R2 and have been running in the new environment for about a week. As of this morning, The consoles failed to connect to the CAS' and one of the Primary Site's database. The issue was resolved
    easily enough by addressing a certificate issue in SQL, but I'm left wondering if there's a correlation between the SP1-to-R2 upgrade that would cause the cert to fail. Anyone have experience with this?

    We got the same certificate related error events after a fresh install of SCCM 2012 R2 on a new server. It happened during the first reboot after SCCM was installed. In the Certificates mmc, I right-clicked on the certificate used by SQL and chose Manage
    Private Keys. Giving the service account that runs the MSSQLSERVER service read rights to the private key allowed SQL to start. However, after a day or so we rebooted the server again, and SQL wouldn't start. Something had removed the service account's read
    permission. Since the SCCM configuration wasn't that far along, we uninstalled SCCM. After giving the service account read rights again, and rebooting several times over a few days, and SQL started every time. We then installed SCCM 2012 R2 again, and checked
    the certificate's permissions before rebooting. The service account still had read permissions when the install completed, but as soon as the server was rebooted, it lost the permissions again.
    The Certificates mmc was then used to request a second computer certificate and then SQL was configured to use that new certificate via SQL Server Configuration Manager. After several days and a number of reboots the SQL services have started normally every
    time so the second certificate seems to have fixed the issue. I have kept the original certificate for fear that removing it will cause whatever part of SCCM 2012 R2 that modifies the original certificate to start removing permissions from the new certificate
    as well.

  • DNS Fails for NFS Server Shares

    When I boot, I get a message that DNS has failed for the NFS server mounts, and the shares do not mount. The message says, "mount.nfs: DNS resolution failed for server: name or service unknown." I have to mount the shares myself. Then when rebooting, I get the same error saying it can't unmount the shares.
    this is /etc/resolv.conf:
    $ cat /etc/resolv.conf
    # Generated by dhcpcd from eth0
    # /etc/resolv.conf.head can replace this line
    nameserver 208.67.222.222
    nameserver 208.67.220.220
    # /etc/resolv.conf.tail can replace this line
    this is /etc/conf.d/nfs:
    # Number of servers to be started up by default
    NFSD_OPTS=8
    # Options to pass to rpc.mountd
    # e.g. MOUNTDOPTS="-p 32767"
    MOUNTD_OPTS="--no-nfs-version 1 --no-nfs-version 2"
    # Options to pass to rpc.statd
    # N.B. statd normally runs on both client and server, and run-time
    # options should be specified accordingly. Specifically, the Arch
    # NFS init scripts require the --no-notify flag on the server,
    # but not on the client e.g.
    # STATD_OPTS="--no-notify -p 32765 -o 32766" -> server
    # STATD_OPTS="-p 32765 -o 32766" -> client
    STATD_OPTS=""
    # Options to pass to sm-notify
    # e.g. SMNOTIFY_OPTS="-p 32764"
    SMNOTIFY_OPTS=""
    Do I need to add some option to rpc.statd, or is there some other misconfiguration there? AFAIK it is the default. What else should I look at to fix this? I can ping the server by name, and log in with ssh by name, just fine. It's only the nfs that is failing with DNS.

    Yahoo! Good news, I've finally solved the problem on my laptop. The message I was receiving turned out merely to be a network timing issue.
    The error I was receiving was exactly correct and informative. When /etc/rc.d/netfs ran and executed a 'mount -a -t nfs...' the network was indeed NOT reachable. I am running networkmanager, and apparently during bootup, networkmanager gets loaded, but there is a delay between when networkmanager is loaded and when the network is available. In other words, networkmanager allows the boot process to continue before the network is available.
    My daemons are loaded in this order (rc.conf):
    DAEMONS=(syslog-ng hal dhcdbd networkmanager crond cups ntpdate ntpd portmap nfslock netfs)
    Consequently, if I add a delay to /etc/rc.d/netfs to allow time for the network to come up, then when the NFS shares are mounted, the network is up. In my case I had to add a 3 second delay.
    sleep 3
    I'm sure this isn't the best way to solve the problem, by editing the system file /etc/rc.d/netfs, because the next upgrade where changes occur to netfs, my fix will get overwritten. But I'll keep it until I figure out the "right" fix.
    The real solution is to not load networkmanager in the background, but to force startup to wait for the networok to be up before continuing.
    there is the _netdev option you can use in fstab, but that doesn't always work:
    http://linux.die.net/man/8/mount
    _netdev
        The filesystem resides on a device that requires network access (used to prevent the system from attempting to mount these filesystems until the network has been enabled on the system).
    Alternatively, you could just add a cronjob to do a mount -a with a sleep 20 in there or something. You might have to play with the sleep value a little to make sure it's long enough
