Unbelievably slow / choppy online video ...

Hello all --
About 3 weeks ago, I began watching "Real Time Overtime" online at HBO.com, as I do every week. It was choppy and slow, the first time that ever happened. It seemed to be buffering. Since there was no pause option on the live video feed, I would hear about 3 seconds of audio, followed by 10 seconds of buffering...then the live video would catch up and I'd miss those 10 seconds. I chalked it up to something wrong with the website. Well, over the next few weeks, I notice it happening on any live feed that I watch. Today, trying to watch the NCAA Tourney, it is laughably slow. I might get 5 seconds of play, followed by 30 seconds of delay. (insert joke here, lol/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png)
I have tried the following:
- Updated the Software.
- Cleared cache, history & temporary internet files.
- Tried both Firefox and Safari (searched for updates for both). Both same.
- In desperation, I moved to trash the contents of my plug-ins folder (when I tried to play a video next, it prompted me to update my flash player, which I did). Still no luck.
- Rebooted my router.
No luck at all/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png Interestingly, if I play a DVD or a downloaded video, everything is fine. Even YouTube, I might pause it a couple seconds to buffer it at the beginning of a video, but it's good overall. I'd sure like to watch some hoops today/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png
Thank you in advance
JD

Are you on cable or DSL?
My understanding of cable is that the more people in a neighborhood watching, the slower the connection becomes for everybody.
There are probably 20x more people trying to watch streaming video of the basketball tournament today than anything else. It could be lack of capacity at the network host website or your internet provider.
My video was always choppy with my old ISP on my MacBook 2,1 (and my Wii, for that matter) until I switched to a DSL provider and 3.0Mbps-rated service. Now the video streams smoothly 99% of the time. I haven't tried to watch ncaa.com/mmod in the past 24 hours, though.

  • Slow choppy Xfinity video

Suddenly Xfinity videos are not buffering properly.  Lots of stops and starts.  Choppy.  Slow.  I cleaned out my cache, deleted cookies, defragged.  YouTube plays fine.  Videos attached to emails play fine.  What's going on with Xfinity?

I'm also having problems with a video on the xfinitytv site. In episode 7 of the current season of So You Think You Can Dance, at approximately the 30 minute mark, just after a commercial break, both video and audio get very choppy. This continues for the rest of the show. (I checked by clicking on various points on the progress bar - didn't watch the whole 1.5 hrs left.) The same thing happened with ep4, although I don't recall the timestamp. • Windows 8.1 on 13" rMBP Mid 2014 unusable. Slow, choppy audio/video

I've installed Windows 8.1 Pro on my new 13" rMBP Mid 2014 and it runs terribly slow. The mouse movement is choppy and I can't even listen to music, which is horrible. The computer often as if it's running at 100% capacity - even though it's almost idle. If I click a link or press a button the audio track skips and does so randomly, too. On OSX it runs at least 10 times as well/flawless. I saw that some people said Retina laptops are slower with Windows because of the screen, but I'm not even using the Retina screen. I am on a external monitor with a disabled screen.
Check out this DPC Latency Report:
    Troubleshooting attempts:
    - I've checked if there's an update for the audio drivers available and just reinstalled the current one.
    - I've reinstalled the newest Boot Camp Support Software.
    - My OSX version (the one before Yosemite) is fully updated.
    - I've disabled many devices in the device manager (network, audio, sound, etc) to see if it's a faulty driver, but couldn't find it.
Do you also have similar problems with Windows 8.1 on the newest MBP? What can I do to fix this?
    Thanks

On an older 13" 2012 MBP with Intel HD4K. (and an SSD - if there are no paging/swapping issues otherwise), it shows

  • FCP 5 unbelievably slow to compress video on Mac Pro hardware.

    Hi -
I am compressing some HD video to H.264 format on a Mac Pro...
The version # is 5.04 - Not the Universal version which I just discovered needs to be crossgraded to. But that is a different topic.
I have about 22 minutes of video which seems to take anywhere from 2 to 5 hours to compress to the MP4 format. The machine claims that 2.6 out of 4 processors worth of processing is going on... Perhaps this is just an artifact of the emulation of the PPC hardware/software... But - yuck.
I opened the process window for the Final Cut Pro Process and it showed a zillion faults.... And then I sampled the process and ended up with a thread listing as such...

  • Online video playback is severally laggy/choppy on my macbook pro 2011?

hey guys, got a bit of an issue here. I've been noticing some SEVERE lagging issues whilst viewing online (streaming) video, from various sites, including, novamov, youtube, and others. the videos rarely stop to buffer as i have a fast connection, but yet they still seem to lag wildly. what i mean by this, is the sound will continue as normal, the the picture will freeze sometimes for a good 5 seconds or so before resuming, this is happening increasingly more and more..
i am running Mac OSX Lion (latest Update) on my:
    MacBook Pro
    17-inch, Early 2011
Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB
    Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50b)
If it helps my hard drive space is:
    Macintosh HD
    Capacity: 664 GB
    Available: 179.79 GB
The browser i am using is the latest version of Safari, although i have tried firefox and chrome and i experience the same issue.
I have Sophos anti-virus installed and run regular scans on my system (all clear)
i really can't think of anything else which could be causing an issue here. I haven't installed any additional software for a while, not in the time frame since the error started to occur.
I am quite surprised to be experiencing such issues as lagging on something as simple as a youtube video when my £3000+ computer handles heavy applications such as Final cut pro and Photoshop with ease...
i MUST be missing something here,
I really would appreciate any help i can get here.
thankyou very much for your time

Try troubleshooting the Flash plugin required for most YouTube video.
Quit all open browsers. I'm using Safari as a test.
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Storage tab. Click: Delete All
Now uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Make sure and uninstall the current plugin first.
Then launch Safari. From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
    Now try a video.
BTW... if you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.

  • ITunes 11 HD video playback slow/choppy/stutter/skipping in OSX

    Hi guys,
I'm running iTunes 11.0.1 in OS 10.8.2 on my 2.66 GHzm, 8 GB RAM MacBook Pro and playback in HD (1080p) movies/TV shows in iTunes is slow, choppy, stuttering and skipping. Can't seem to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

I was having this same problem, and found one cause.
I have an extensive library on a Drobo FS.  None of the AppleTV's in the house have any problem streaming full 1080p from it, but my new iMac does.  Choppy / laggy video play.  Movies and TV shows right from the iTunes store.  I can have 3 TV's streaming, and even a 4th laptop, all streaming from the iMac iTunes using the Drobo.  They all have zero issues.  No lag, no choppy, nothing.  iMac has the issue even when nothing else is running.  Every time.
BTW, it's happend on my old iMac and the brand new one, both with iTunes 11.
I was told to try setting up a second account on my iMac, and try playing video there.  It worked.  No problems at all.  Weird.
So I started looking at differences between the new account, and my standard.  I'd already made sure nothing unusual was running, and no processor hogs (not that anything short of Handbrake at full settings has come close to pegging out the processers on the new box).  I found one thing, that made a difference.  I had Timemachine backups, going to the same Drobo FS (though a different partition) turned on on the iMac.
Timemachine was running the whole time, and didn't impact any other streaming from the same machine, but it did make iTunes video playback of 1080p movies skip like my 6 year old daughter on the iMac.  I turned it off.... no more skipping.  I've watched 5 TV shows and 2 movies on that account, and not had another single incident.
Obviously, there is still a problem.  The iMac and Drobo have enough bandwidth that they can do all the work at the same time (or I'd be seeing the problem on the other devices while streaming), but they are not playing well together on the same account.  I've also checked the throughput to the Drobo FS from the iMac... way more than necessary.  If it were a read / write thing on the Drobo, then I'd expect other devices to see the issue when I'm watching something on the iMac that is skipping, but there was still no skipping on any other device at that same time...
But, as I said, I found the root cause in my case.  I can turn off Timemachine backups while I'm watching a movie on the iMac, or I can move where I write the Timemachine backups to (going to try this over the weekend to be sure it works).  If moving the Timemachine backup to a different drive doesn't work, it's a bigger problem.
I'd really love to see Apple fix this and the issue where I have to turn iTunes on in 32bit mode when using an external library (of it gives the funky quicktime error until you delete and readd the movie).
Hope this helps some of you, if not all.

  • Online video and slow internet

In my Lumia 520 online video is not playing and internet is slow

Remember that if online video requires Flash it's not going to play as Flash is not supported and in general has been discontinued for mobile platforms quite some time ago.
On internet what do you mean it's slow? What kind of connection are you getting? What letter do you see next to the signal (E, G, H or H+)?
Where are you and on which carrier?

  • Online video choppy!

    Hello everybody.
I'm having a problem streaming video from Hulu and even at times from sites like YouTube. Up until about 2 weeks ago everything streamed smoothly as can be, but now the video has all of the sudden become very choppy and distracting. It never stalls due to buffering problems, but the video playback isn't very smooth. The problem seems to be only with online video, as my iTunes videos have perfect playback.
    My system:
    1.67 GHz PowerBook G4
    OS X 10.4.11 (latest)
    1.5 GB Ram
    64 MB Video Memory
I also installed the latest version of Flash from Adobe, but that didn't make much of a difference. Any advice? I haven't done anything to my computer, but literally about 2 weeks ago my Hulu viewing has become really choppy, all of the sudden.
    Thanks in advance!

what kind of content are you downloading / trying to watch? what site?
try downgrading your flash to version 9:

  • Slow online video download

Extremely slow online video download on my ipod touch 5g (6.0.1)
Trouble occurs only if i'm trying to watch videos on YouTube or social network.
Speed tests show absolutly normal results.
I run some video, and after a few seconds it's download stops. I'm turning off/on the wifi toggle, and download resumes for a few seconds, and stops again.
Hope that this problem will be fixed in 6.1

I hope someone from Apple is monitoring this site. Three days apps will not update, iOS8.0. Support told me to update to iOS8.02. Can't do that over WIFI or Cell network. Supports tells me have to link to iTUNES and do this. That takes three trys. Did that. Apps still not updating. Read online that resetting network settings will help. Did that App's hanging and not updating.
Apple how does this happen. Night before iOS8.0 release you pull things because of some security issue. Then you have iOS8.01 fiasco and now this. Can someone get this right. We use these things for more than just phones now. FIX IT

  • Slow Media Loading, Video iChat Fails, iTunes Choppy

Internet sites are reluctant to load and I usually have to click the refresh button 3-4 times before a given webpage will load (sometimes not even entirely: question marks in place of pictures).
Videos freeze up or just continually try to load but nothing ever happens.
iTunes is visually choppy when I open it and slow to load and sometimes my fan runs without anything really happening.
I've cleared my cache and that has had no effect. I've also checked my Activity Monitor and there are some minor red spikes with occasional medium sized ones. I don't see anything out of the ordinary running.
My music folder is 23 GB.
    My disc space says:
    51.72 GB Utilized
    22.49 GB Space Free
Basically everything is tremendously slow and I'm wondering what it could be, and more importantly: What should I do?
    Thanks

I don't have a solution for you, but maybe some suggestions for the causes.
If you're having problems loading a webpage, odds are it's the network and not your computer. Can other computers (friends, another you own, ipod) load web pages on that network without a hitch? If other computers can it's more likely a problem with how you setup the network than the computer being faulty.
iTunes: What else are you running while the visualizer is being choppy? I'd check activity monitor regularly when it gets slow and see what's using the most under the CPU column.
Is the video you're refering to that freezes up or is choppy streaming video from the web or video on your hard drive, or a DVD. If it's streaming video, see the first point i made. If its on your HD it could you have the wrong codecs installed or something of that nature. My QT is choppy with everything I play. WIthout really wanting to see what codecs I'm missing I've just downloaded VLC and run everything on that. No choppy anymore.
I don't know much else about how things work. And sorry if I'm giving you dumb answers but it's hard to tell how much knowledge people have, so maybe my little is more than theirs. Hope that helped.

The buffering is extremely slow and the videos stop, start, stop, start and sometimes just hang. Has anyone else experienced this and is there a fix out there?

    Update to Safari 4.

Add Me to the list. I've found with most of Comcasts services all they care about is getting that money. If they put as much effort into their service as they do making sure they get paid the service would be perfect.hbajwa90 wrote:
I cant seem to get my online videos to play smoothly. I've read through other online threads of similar issues and am unable to solve this problem. To say I am disappointed in Xfinity and Comcast would be a bit of an understatement. With what I pay for our monthly subscription I expect seamless internet streaming. • Online video and audio choppy, dysfunctional

Many of the online videos that I try to play are impossible to watch. The sound is jumpy, video is more a series of long photos than running as video, etc. I have an iMac FP 700 mhz running 10.4.11, Safari 4.0.2, have 1.8 GB free on a 40 GB drive and 5 mbps cable internet. I've seen others post similar problems but no one seems to have come up with a solution yet.

the issues are with being able to play back flash content using h.264 as it's encoding. PPC macs just don't handle flash or h.264 very well as it's very CPU intensive. watching hulu on my newer macbooks runs the fans pretty hard.
I'd try to have a bit more free space on that drive & you can try using caminio as the browser but you aren't going to be able to really get around this without getting an Intel Mac.
