Understanding Crawl Statistics

Hi,
I set up SES web crawler to crawl some internal sites. At the end of the crawl I received following statistics:
Total number of documents fetched = 982
Total number of documents updated = 1,051
Document fetch failures = 13
Document conversion failures = 0
Total number of unique documents indexed = 56
Total data collected = 4,787,947 bytes
Total number of non-indexable documents = 926
Average size of fetched document = 85,499 bytes
Documents discovered = 1313
Documents rejected = 318
I could not understand:
1. Why certain number of documents were non indexable (as crawler has already rejected certain documents)
2. What is the difference between 'Document fetch failure' and 'documents rejected' (Documents rejected depends on certain types of url's not accepted by crawler)
3. What is the criterion for document rejection (I know a few images, audio, video are not accepted)? Is there any other criterion? I mean can a crawler plug in implementation has this capability and is it expected from crwler plugin to do so? I know while creating a source we can define what all url's to reject.
4. In crawler logs I get error like: "EQG-30173: 'Document url' Error reading document content" ? What could be the possible reason for this?
Thanks in advance.
Shakti

Non-indexable documents are generally formats which we don't index (eg jpg, gif files).
Rejected documents are usually those which are outside the boundary conditions for the crawl.
For example if you start a crawl at http://www.oracle.com/ then any links to (for example http://www.peoplesoft.com/ or even http://files.oracle.com/ will be outside the boundary. Check the second tab on the edit source pages.
The EQG-30173 error normally means that the web server has failed to respond, or has sent invalid information. This should correspond with the "Document fetch failures" - 13 documents in this case.

    Hi experts,
I am new in Oracle performance tuning. can anyone tell me what the mean of "Oracle statistics gathering" in simple words/way. i has read it from Oracle site http://docs.oracle.com/cd/A87860_01/doc/server.817/a76992/stats.htm.
But i am not understand it properly. It Any role in oracle performance tuning? Does it make good performance of Oracle DB???

  • Trying to Understand the PostSyncCleanup parameter

I've got a problem with running my application on the Australian version of Windows. We have a "test" application built around SQL Server Compact Merge Replication Library (thanks ErikEJ) and that works but our application doesn't.
One of the main differences with our application code is that we do not set the PostSyncCleanup value to anything and the library sets it to 2 per this link:
http blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlblog/archive/2009/04/15/sql-compact-performance-postsynccleanup-to-turn-off-updatestatistics-during-initial-download-of-sql-compact-replication.aspx (put the :// back to get the link)
I'm trying to understand the impact of making that our "production" configuration since we haven't been using it.  The description looks harmless enough but I don't really understand what statistics I'm turning off and what the impact
would be and what even the default setting is.  Anything that could enlighten me would be appreciated along with a guess as to why that might be causing a problem on the Australian version of Windows would be appreciated.

So we've been running with the default value (0) and have not really had any "problems".  I haven't done any testing but I'm ok with faster, like everyone would be, but am also a bit risk averse so want to know what exactly I'm turning off.
I also saw this advice from Rob Tiffany:
Use the appropriate x64, x86 or ARM version of SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2 to take advantage of the
PostSyncCleanup property of the SqlCeReplication object that can reduce the time it takes to perform an initial synchronization. Set the
PostSyncCleanup property equal to 3 where neither
    UpdateStats nor CleanByRetention are performed.
    Here: http  robtiffany.com/microsoft-sql-server-compact-3-5-sp2-has-arrived/
So, is the best advice to use that parameter and set the value to 3 or 2
I don't really know what I'm losing to "not performing" UpdateStats or CleanByRetention and does making that change need I need to do something else on the server or client to "clear out" or "clean up" something that this is
    doing.

  • ADDM Report understanding

    Hi ALL,
I want to know in more detail about ADDM report contents. Because i can not understand statistics defined inside that report.
Please any one give me that detail?
    Thanks in advance.

To understand ADDM statistics you need to understand AWR or Statspack reports.
You can find on OTN old but still good starting documents:

  • Downloading Past Purchases

Can someone please explain what this means? I can't download my past purchases whenever I feel like it?
This computer is already associated with an Apple ID.
You can download past purchases on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. This computer can be used with a different Apple ID in 88 days.

Add me to the list of surprised customers.  I just upgraded to the new iBooks and tried to download a book I had purchased and sure enough I got the above message.  I did not sign out of my device, and originally purchased the book with this Apple Id so there was no reason for the message.  It's just disappointing because it is one more thing that has come to my attention that is leaving a bitter taste in my mouth when it comes to the current direction of the company in the post Steve Jobs era.  I recall a number of times visiting the Apple store and asking them how to deal with a family of Apple consumers/fanatics.  Everything Apple created we have purchased but the problem was how do we manage the software and media we purchase for all family members to enjoy.  The recommendation was to create one central apple ID for all members and individual ones for specific use for each member.  Which fell in line with the message from the company.  This new function has just made it a bit more inconvenient for my family to function freely with the products we purchased.  It is just a question of how long will we be able to handle this little annoyance until we buy the same app for each individual device in our home.  So now instead of one downloaded purchase we now purchase five downloads.  That is the situation my sister faced.  She lived in Germany and spent a substantial amount on app purchases only to find that those purchases were not available to her when she moved to the US even though those products are available in the US and Germany.  As she was told by customer support you are not able to combine your purchases even though they are offered in both countries.  Double billing for the same product...starting to understand the statistics coming from the product release events.
As if that was not enough now it is becoming a bit problematic within the US and multiple IDs within families.  I  think I may have to revert to the old system of buying physical books, I can read the book then my sister can read it, her children can etc etc.  I am hopeful that Apple will introduce some kind of solution for families so this will not become a problem.

  • What is data being Skewed in a TABLE COLUMN in Oracle

    Hi All,
I am going through numerous articles in Oracle to understand Cardinality, selectivity, histograms and Data being skewed to understand the characterstics of Oracle Optimizer.I have a hard time understanding the concept of data being skewed for a column in a table in Oracle.I need your help in understanding it.
    Thanks,
    Rav.

    >
With out understanding the proper meaning of Skewness I assumed that a col data is skewed if the NDV of the col is high.
Your previoius statement raised this question now
Is there a corelation between number of distinct values in the column and the Skewness of a column?
    >
See this Oracle white paper on Understanding Optimizer Statistics
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/focus-areas/bi-datawarehousing/twp-optimizer-stats-concepts-110711-1354477.pdf
The section on Table and Column Statistics on page 2 has information that will clear this up
    >
For example, if a table has 100 records, and the table access evaluates an equality predicate on a column that has 10 distinct values, then the Optimizer, assuming uniform data distribution, estimates the cardinality to be the number of rows in the table divided by the number of distinct values for the column or 100/10 = 10.
Histograms tell the Optimizer about the distribution of data within a column. By default (without a histogram), the Optimizer assumes a uniform distribution of rows across the distinct values in a column. As described above, the Optimizer calculates the cardinality for an equality predicate by dividing the total number of rows in the table by the number of distinct values in the column used in the equality predicate. If the data distribution in that column is not uniform (i.e., a data skew) then the cardinality estimate will be incorrect. In order to accurately reflect a non-uniform data distribution, a histogram is required on the column. The presence of a histogram changes the formula used by the Optimizer to estimate the cardinality, and allows it to generate a more accurate execution plan.
    >
Did you notice the phrase 'if the data distribution in that column is not uniform (i.e. a data skew)'?
The NDV doesn't matter. It is the relative magnitude of each distinct value that determines the skew.
SB's example of gender, male or female, is not skewed if the number of 'males' is approximately equal to the number of 'females'.
But if the number of one of them, 'male' for example, is substantially larger than the number of the other then the data is skewed.
Assume a table has 1 million rows. If only one row is 'male' it makes sense to use an index to find it. But it wouldn't make sense to use that index if you were looking for 'female' since all rows but one are 'female'.
But because the NDV is two and there are 1 million rows then without a histogram Oracle would assume a uniform distribution and the query 'WHERE GENDER = 'male' would use a full table scan instead of the index.

  • Database search using Oracle SES

    Hi all..specially Luca,
I am a new to oracle SES.I have to search my database through oracle SES from my ASP.NET
    pages.
But before doing it from ASP.NET page , I just want to try serching from the SES tool itself.
I tried to create Database source type as :
Home > source > source type = database > create
then i got a page where i wrote the database connection string , userid , password , and a query (select * from images)
i clicked next n got another page which says step2 authorization ..
here again i need to put databse connection string ..for which i m confuse what to put ..
the entire connection string like "Data Source=atlas/orcl;User ID=yuntaa;Password=yuntaa" or "atlas/orcl" ..
i put user ID and Password, there wer few more fields like
Authorization Query,Single Record Query, Authorization User ID Format .i m not sure what to put in this fields,
and clicked next...i got an error saying ...
    Oracle Secure Enterprise Search Error
An error occurred while validating the plug-in parameters.
now i m really confuse how to create database source and how it will search to my search string...how it will know which
table to search...i mean search string may be audio, video, image or a doc ..according to the string it has execute different
query to search in different table...
Plz help me out a little to solve this issue...

are audio, video or images which i have stored in database tables itself.
so in my case the URL column will be empty which is a mandatory field. The URL column contains the Display URL for the document but I do not have any document outside my database.
The way I am storing the data, is oracle SES posible ?. Most importantly do this will enhance
the performance..or provide some extra information to the user regarding search...
Actually what we are thinking is that when user will search and if the data is present in database we will display the data from the database using oracle SES
or else if the data is not there in the database we will provide some links
of other web site, something like google..
Please give some thought on it and tell me whether this is possible using oracle SES...if yes then what should i put in URL column...if posible plz give me some suggestion how should i proceed
You said If the data is in an Oracle database, it is easier to use the Table crawler. I tried
to configure that with my table but showing an error in error log :
EQG-30100: Internal error: java.sql.SQLException: Missing IN or OUT parameter at index:: 2,
from: CrawlingThread.processPseudoURL() executing SQL BEGIN ?

EXCEPTION when others then eq_err.raise; END;; for URL http:/tds?id=-1&k1=24&display_url=0
    EQG-30100: Internal error:
    no new documents collected
also the crawl statistics is 0..
also search result is empty..i m searching with the string which is in contenttitle
column in table which i ve set through "table column mappings"...
the steps i ve taken to set the table crawler is :
selected source type as Table > provided source name , port number etc details > local table
selected primary key column > select content column > create and customise > table column mappings
Add another row(selected the contenttitle field) > apply > schedule > execute immediatlyWarm regards and Thanks

  • EarlyWatch Report

    Ladies/Gents
Can someone please confirm if I need to put on / activate statistics (RSA1->Tools->Settings for BI Statistics) to obtain query statistics results in the EarlyWatch report? I understand that statistics needs to be switched on if I want to analyse the RDSDSTAT* tables or load stats from Business Content BI Stats....but I can not determine if this is required for the EarlyWatch Report. I am specifically interested in the top five bad performing queries section in the EarlyWatch report but was not sure if this report reviewed all the queries in my BW system - as statistics is not switched on for all queries/info providers.
    Thanks!

  • Query Connection Isolation Levels

I can do SA_CONN_LOCKS and get the information of all the connections.  I have all the connection numbers.
I then need a way to determine the ISOLATION LEVEL of each of the connections.    We use a different ISOLATION LEVEL and  we want to make sure that isolation level is proper for all connections to stop freezing.
I'm sure I can get the isolation level of the current connection (ITSELF) ---
    1. How do I get the isolation level of my own connection?
    2. How do I get the isolation levels of all the other connections?  (If I have to do it manually for each connection, that's not an issue for me)
    Please help!
We are setting an EXECLUSIVE lock on a table which is causing all the other workstations to freeze, and I'm sure that we are setting the isolation level to stop this from happening when opening all the connections - so for some reason, something is getting set back or the user is creating other custom connections and locking records.
    Thank you.
    Sybase SQL Anywhere 12.01

    Hi Robert,
I have logged the incident with support.  We haven't move much towards resolution on that side, but we have on our side.
If you're ever finding that an incident needs more attention to it or that you are not receiving an urgent reply from SAP, there is a mechanism to have the SAP Customer Interaction Center involved and for the incident to be flagged at higher support levels, if the production situation warrants it - see: https://websmp106.sap-ag.de/call1sap
The query runs just fine!   It runs in 3 seconds.
If we put those two lines back - the query freezes and can sit there forever.
On the surface, this doesn't sound like a locking issue, but more of a performance issue with those views/tables. Especially if you are using isolation level 0.
They asked us to do logging (your SAP SUPPORT) and we did ..... we gave it to them and they came back and told us it could have to do with some known bug called "Issue with parallelism and we can test this by setting the max_query_tasks to 1"
Yes, after reviewing the incident I can see that we have requested and you have performed and provided us with some request logging, and after reviewing this information we had found that there were large table scans inside queries with intra-query parallelism involved (indicating a performance issue). To diagnose the performance issue further, we have requested graphical plans with statistics from these queries to see in more detail about why we are picking the query plans we are at that time. The optimizer uses statistical analysis to pick plans so therefore we need to understand the statistics behind its decisions.
The above suggestion was provided as an interim diagnostic test in order to determine if the behaviour is related to known fixed issues related to intra-query parallelism on earlier builds of 12.0.1. Providing the specific build number of 12.0.1 would avoid needing to run the diagnostic test.
However, if you are convinced that locking is truly the root issue of your problem, please provide the full output of sa_locks() at this time - there should be 11 columns, including the 'lock_type' information which would provide the type of object that is being locked:
    conn_name,conn_id,user_id,table_type,creator,table_name,index_id,lock_class,lock_duration,lock_type,row_identifier
If you are over 1000 locks, you will need to increase the 'max_locks' argument to sa_locks().
I have also noted that you have also just provided a response to us in the incident shortly after posting here. Please continue to use the support incident to work with us directly for the diagnostic discussion and your resolution options.

    Jeff Albion

  • Analyzing a table

Could anybody please explain what is analyzing a table in oracle.. and whether this improves the performance.. like faster access of data from those tables.
    Thanks in advance

The first thing could be the reading of the concept manual, Understanding the statistics.
And yes, Oracle can change his explain plan (the "mannear" how Oracle will process your query) within different values of table statistics. Better or not, that depend.
    Nicolas.

  • Change Update stats job creteria

    Hi ,
As per my understanding Update statistics job Update stats of table if it has been changed more than 50%.
Please suggest where we can check this value set for job and How can we change it.
    Regards,
    Shivam Mittal

    Hi Shivam,
You can set the "stats_change_threshold" parameter, in "init<DBSID>.sap" file. Check http://help.sap.com/saphelp_bw30b/helpdata/en/02/0ae0c6395911d5992200508b6b8b11/content.htm

  • Week Old MacBook Air - Random Kernel Panics - NEED HELP!

    Specs : MacBook Air 11" - i7 - 8GB RAM - 256 SSD
I have had this laptop for a little over a week now and continuously keep having KPs, what seem to be random and not tied to any specific program, just seems to happen while I am download a file from the internet. Frustrating because I can not even download the update form 10.8.0 -> 10.8.2!!!
    I have done the following:
         -Reset PRAM
         -Reset SMC
         -Restored from SCRATCH
         -Disconnected all peripherals
         -Tested RAM with memtest (OK)
         -Tested HDD with DiskUtility (OK)
I would just bring it back to an Apple store, but I live in the Dominican Republic and picked it up while I was passing through Miami.
Below is the log form the most recent KP.

    1. You clearly have no understanding of statistics and failure rate.  Even a company with the most efficient and best products will have a certain rate of failure (even some products arriving dead on arrival), regardless of how much they do or do not spend on components and quality control.
    2.  Apple doesn't manfacture the hard drives.
    3.  How do you know how much they spend on parts?

    Hi all,
I am bit new to this statistics.
Can anyone please explain me in detail about these commands.
    1) exec DBMS_STATS.GATHER_TABLE_STATS (ownname => 'MRP' , tabname => 'MRP_ATP_DETAILS_TEMP', estimate_percent => 100 ,cascade => TRUE);
    2) exec DBMS_STATS.CREATE_STAT_TABLE ( ownname => 'MRP', stattab => 'MRP_ATP_3');
    3) exec DBMS_STATS.EXPORT_TABLE_STATS ( ownname => 'MRP', stattab => 'MRP_ATP_3', tabname => 'MRP_ATP_DETAILS_TEMP',statid => 'MRP27jan14');
    4) exec DBMS_STATS.IMPORT_TABLE_STATS ( ownname => 'MRP', stattab => 'MRP_ATP_3', tabname => 'MRP_ATP_DETAILS_TEMP');
I understand that these commands are used to export and import table statistics.
But please anyone help me in understanding this indetail.
    Thanks in advance.
