Undocumented features of the expression node
After investigating expression nodes in detail here, I stumbled on some undocumented features that could give your UIs some interesting new twists (if used in moderation!).
I have not fully explored all possibilities, so there might be more.
I have tested in it LabVIEW 4.0 through 2013SP1 and it seems to work everywhere. (Versions below 6i show some slight pixelation artifacts, but that can be ignored)
Look what it can do!!!!

Hey wow, you can see through to the block diagram. Better put a perspex plate over that, you don't want animals getting in there and gnawing on the wires.
Just duplicating the myRIO design, where you can see the "circuits" under a glass cover.

Undocumented Feature of the White Balance Tool!
I have not been able to find any documentation on this, at least not in the User Manual nor in the Image Adjustments Manual.
We all wanted to be able to click in multiple areas before leaving the white balance tool in case we clciked on the wrong spot.
Well Apple went one better.
Instead of multiple clicking, just continue to hold the mouse button down and aperture will white balance on the fly!!! Dang. I particularly like using it with the locked down loupe.Where can i make the paypal donation, lol!!<</div>
I only wish!!!

Music stops with Etymotic earphones and undocumented feature in iPod
I have been using these Etymotic ER-6 with an iPod 4th generation without any problem, but after upgrading to an iPod Video, things have not been as smooth.
It seems that there is a new undocumented feature in the iPod Video. If you unplug your earphones, the music stops automatically. Which is great. The problem is that the Etymotic earphones have a 90 degree plug, prone to move sideways. When it moves, the music stops.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem?
G5 & iPod Video Mac OS X (10.4.4)Haven't had a "problem" with that feature as my connector is straight however, it would have been nice if they applied the same feature for "Dock Removal" so it pauses when lifted from a dock.

Bit Complement in an Expression Node
I can use bit complement in a formula node but not the expression node. The
"~" tilde is the only text in the expression node. The error is "~#" with
# being the error. The input is a U8. Thanks in advance for any help.Hi Catherine,
I've tried your suggestion earlier and tried it again after your
post but it still doesn't work. I am new to expression nodes so maybe my
syntax is incorrect. To do the same in C language I think it looks like
this: "a = ~ b;". I made a picture and a copy of the error. Let me know
if you see anything wrong. Thanks!
Error on line 1 is marked by a '#' character: "~#"

I would like to enter the following equation into an Expression Node:
1 / ((1.376E-17*x^4) - (0.000000000000026254*x^3) + (0.000000000023901*x^2) + (0.0000000055134*x10) + 0.000000063412)
However, each time I try I get block diagram errors. I've tried removing spaces, parans, etc but have had no luck resolving the problem. Any suggestions on how to do this or is there a different function in LabView that would be more appropriate? Thanks.Hi JHess,
what about rewriting the formula as:
1 / ( (a*x)+b)*x)+c)*x+d)*x+e )
with a to e your constants from left to right.
It's just a different representation of the same formula. Your formula maybe doesn't work because of the "^" - powers should have to be written as "**".
Using LabView primitives instead of the expression node may speed up your code as well!

What is the correct syntax for an exponent with the expression node?
I looked in LabVIEW help, and it looked like it was the '^' character,
except that doesnt appear to be correct:
The correct output should be 2, but LabVIEW returns 3.

That is easily in my top 2 or 3 LV pet peeves. I use exponentiation countless times and the next time I use bit-wise XOR in a LV text formula will be my first. Why couldn't LV be like every other program/language I have used and use ^ for exponentiation?
Define your definition of every other programming language!
There are Ada, Bash, COBOL, Fortran, FoxPro, Gnuplot, OCaml, Perl, PL/I, Python, Rexx, Ruby, SAS, Seed7, Tcl, ABAP, Haskell (for floating-point exponents), Turing, VHDL which do just as LabVIEW, Algol, Commodore BASIC which use a special symbol ↑, and some like Java who don't even have a special exponentiation operator, but require the call of a math library function.
BASIC, J, MATLAB, R, Microsoft Excel, TeX (and its derivatives), TI-BASIC, bc (for integer exponents), Haskell (for nonnegative integer exponents), Lua, ASP and most computer algebra systems do use indeed the ^ symbol, but in Bash, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Perl, PHP, Python and Ruby, the symbol ^ is used for the XOR operator and the LabVIEW formula node borrowed a lot of syntax from C and is in its current incarnation in fact a limited C syntax environment, so that leaves the ^symbol not available for the exponentiation anymore.
Also I would say that LabVIEW is indeed more a programming language and not a computer algebra system.

Satellite Pro M70-273: Functionality of the Express Media Player feature
I bought a Toshiba Satellite Pro M70-273 "Limited Edition" (?) two weeks ago. The model number is PSM76E-00J00QDU, model name SPM76, production date 2006-02-21. According to the specifications I found in the online user's manual or in a folder with publication references
"TEG October 2005, Art. N0. DSSSPM70 10/05NLBE", there is an "Express Media Feature" "on some selected models" ...
It is not clear if yes or no, the model I bought has it. I have a "CD/DVD Button" that I use to launch my built-in dvd player (e.g. WinDVD), but this does not work as specified as "a standalone disc drive" that plays a dvd (film) without needing to startup Windows.
To watch the dvd film, after using the CD/DVD button, I have to boot into Windows, login into Windows XP and when the desktop is started, the WinDVD screen will show the film.
This is not what I'm expecting from a standalone dvd player. My old notebook has a "dj function" with which one can play a cd without booting into Windows, (or powering up the notebook), just by pressing a special key on the front . How about the promised feature of the Toshiba Satellite Pro?
Is there an "Express Media Player" functionality at all? How can I check if the feature is provided? I used the setup provided, the first time I used my notebook. I don't wish to use the recovery cd rom provided unless it might be absolutely indispensable to install this missing feature.John
With the laptop you should have received a restore/recovery disc. This contains utilities to either replace individual drivers and tools, plus a complete 'image' of the base build that your laptop has when it is built at the factory
Although I have never used this, it is supposed to completely wipe all data and setings from ythe laptop by first formatting the hard drive then reinstalling the operating system and applications back to factory settings. From comments elsewhere on this forum one of the few options you can have when you do this is to choose to partition the hard drive into 2 sections, one for the Express Media player, the other for the operating system etc. (as the Express Media operates without booting into the operating system).
The process is designed to be user friendly as it guides you through it, but as I said it does wipe EVERYTHING you have on the laptop currently, which is why I never bothered after I realised it wasn't installed. By the sounds of it though it won't be too much hassle for you to do that as you have data/settings you can easily transfer afterwards (Win XP has a tool to help with this)
The Gigastore hub I have found very good, and likewise the Gigastore hard drive, although others have posted here about their laptops not 'seeing' the hard drive in certain conditions
If you want anything further I check here fairly regularly, or you can mail me - [email protected]
Steve -
Just encountered this odd behavior in LV 2011 which I reduced to the following example:
- create a new VI and drop an enum control on te FP.
- make this control a typedef and open the corresponding typedef
- create a "case 1" item and a "case 2" item
- save the typedef (I used the name Typedef Control 1) and CLOSE it (this is to allow updating of the original control).
- drop a case structure on the diagram and connect the enum to it:
So far so good. Now create a "Value" Property node for the enum and use it instead of the terminal:
If I now go back to the typedef and add a "case 3" item, save the typedef and close it, the control is updated, but the Property node is not.
How do I know that? For one, the Case Structure contextual menu does not offer to create a case for every value. Also, if I add a "case 3" case manually, it turns red.
Luckily, the magic Ctrl-R key stroke actually does solve this problem.
Tested in LV 2011.By Ctrl-R trick do you simply mean running the VI? That is one way to force a recompile, but if you hold down Ctrl while pressing the run button you can recompile without running. This should not be "dangerous" in any situation.
As you have drawn your example, I see no reason not to use a local in that situation (ok, maybe for vanity). Still, I view the behavior you describe as a bug, and it should certainly be fixed for the benefit of local haters out there. You have to be a little careful where you draw the line between what gets handled in real time and what gets handled only at compile time. -

How to get the Change node in Production Server!!!!!
Hi Guys,
Kindly let me know how to get the Change node in Production Server for the Transaction Code Pe03 for generating the Acknowledgement No for the year 2008 .
Plz provide me the steps how to get the Change Node for Acknowledgement No so tat i can get the configuration done.
Regards
Ansuman Mohanty.Hi Mr!
If you want to generate the e-file feature 40ACK, do it in our Customization client box (Golden box) & save the request & move to Quality & production.
Still if you need to workout only in Production, than with the help of Basis people you can get the Production change mode for 5 to 10 min time & can generate it. But mostly Basis people wont give us change mode for Production box ... with ur request they can do..try it.
Did u collected 4 quarter TAN no's for 2008 Quarter...if not collect it & generate it at a time.
All the best:-)
Kind Regards,

How to change content in the formula node of the current vi
Actually I want to give formula with array index.
My formula p=a[0]-30; But i couldnot give array index in the formula expression..
Please help me in this issue.Muthu92 wrote:
Thank you for your reply. It is very useful for me. But i can't give conditional operator in that operator. It is showing error.
My Test cases
A[0]+A[1]>150
A[31]-50 <100.
If those are your exact statements, then they don't make sense in a formula node. You have to use them in an if-statement or some other type of control logic. This mimics text-based programming languages such as C... See here for instructions on formula node syntax: http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/371361G-01/lvhowto/formula_node_syntax/
For instance, you COULD say something like:
**In this example, let A[0] == x, A[1] == y, A[31] == z**
if(x+y>150)
/* do something if this is true */
else if(z-50 < 100)
/* do something else */
EDIT:
It should also be noted that Variable Names MUST be lowercase!! I just discovered this
EDIT2:
I stand corrected. After trying to create an example and digging through the LabVIEW Help, I stumbled across this:
Differences between the Parser in the Mathematics VIs and the Formula Node
The parser in the Mathematics VIs supports all elements that Formula Nodes support with the following exceptions:
Variables—Only a, a0, ..., a9, ... z, z0, ..., z9, are valid.
Logical, conditional, inequality, equality—?:,, &&, !=, ==, <, >, <=, and >= are not valid.
Functions—atan2, max, min, mod, pow, rem, and sizeOfDim are not valid. You can use these functions in a Formula Node or use their corresponding LabVIEW functions.
So it DOES NOT seem like Eval Formula Node can do conditionals like you want. I would just implement them using a LabVIEW based algorithm after all. Trying to out smart the formula nodes to avoid simple LabVIEW code is just too much of a hassle

Hi,
I have the following issue when deploying:
Solution Deployment : Missing one or more of the following attributes from the root node in solution .wsp: assembly '', type ''
The solution is a farm solution (was never sandbox) and it deploys fine.
It was updated several times with success. We did not see this issue until recently when we had some other issue (unrelated) and looked at the logs. The solution is updated without problem and updates are available for the user. But we can see this error
in the logs at the update time.
Any idea what might cause this?
Pop AnisiaHi,
This error is wide meaning, as it can come from differences between SP versions, variables types used, bad manifest file, WebConfiguration ...
You can try to redeploy the solution.
retracted the solution, removed all the previous ref, removed dll from GAC and folder from 14\features and reset the iis, deploying it again.
Here are some similar issue post, you can use as a reference:

In additional, you can check the ULS log (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS) to get the detailed information.
I hope this helpful.

Is this a bug or am I just thinking about this wrong? The attached VI shows a U8 going through an expression node where the expression is "x << y". I've tried multiple versions of y and as soon as y becomes large enough to shift all the original 1's off the U8, the result becomes 0xFF instead of 0x00. I would assume that its intent was to match C's functionality since it matches C's syntax but this does not appear to be the case.
Any suggestions or is this a bug?
Thanks

expression_shift_issue.vi 11 KBHey Andy,
Thank you for contacting National Instruments. It does look like that is acting strangely. However, we do have a Logical Shift VI that I believe accomplishes what you are looking for.
On the Block Diagram, go to Programming>>Numeric>>Data Manipulation>>Logical Shift.
It takes two inputs, x and y, with x being the original number, and y being the number of bits you want to shift. It looks like it will clear out to 00 once all the bits have been shifted over.
Let me know if you any questions!
