Unhappy with Droid X and Verizon

First where do I file a complaint? I just got off the phone with Customer Service "Supervisor" and he told me it was on this site.
Ben 322971 supervisor for Verizon.
I just got my first bill ($235). No internet usage, no GPS, nothing activated.
$165 for monthly access
$69.20 for surcharges
I just bought this phone 31 days ago from this site for $200 and a 2 yr contract. I was to get the first month free (according to my email when I bought the phone). Then when I called, Verizon said that was a mistake. I got charged for a first time fee + seconds months fee.
This is a scam! Hidden charges to the fullest! Who pays $235 per month for one phone with no Wi-If or GPS ever turned on? All I did was text a few messages and call a few friends that I added to my friends and family. I didn't go over any text messages or minutes. It clearly states that on my bill. But $235 for my first time setup fee plus monthly fee, what a joke!
My plan is originally for $96 per month. I feel that I will get hit up by many more charges in the future that are not disclosed in my bill. So therefore I am canceling my contract. Oh yeah and because I am one day outside of my 30 day period, I have to pay an extra $300 for early cancellation. I said why not, with bills in the $235 range it's better to close now.
I have never been a Verizon customer, but I am never coming back. I have friends who have 3 phones within their plan all within unlimited everything and they only pay $150 per month. Different carrier of coarse, but $235, really Verizon?
Customer support is rude, unhelpful, and want to argue with you that all of the black ink on your bill is correct. What courtesy...

I'll try to help a bit.
You bought the phone for 200.00 31 days ago, right?  I assume you paid for the phone outright that day on a credit card?
You have a plan you say is $96.00 per month....does that include the Data plan of $30.00?  I'll assume it does.
So, you get your bill and what most people don't understand is you pay for the month ahead, not the previous month.
$96.00 for the first 30 days is due when you get your bill
+$96.00 which is due for your NEXT month ahead
=$192.00 before taxes and fees and before any text plans or individual messages you sent.
Not too unreasonable that your first bill is $235.00...you havent paid for the service you used up to that point and you owe for the next months service.
I do want to add an important thing to my email...there's no scam and you likely havent been charged any hidden fees.  People make complaints on this forum about their bill but are vague about the bill details.  I always see..."surcharges' with some random dollar sign near it.
Also, you say you bought the phone 31 days ago but never activated it?  Never used the internet or....WiFi??
How could you have bought the phone 31 days ago, never used it for more than a couple phone calls?  And if all you did was make a couple phone calls it wouldnt affect how much you owe.  Just activating the phone when you receive it activates the data plan and your package.
If you really feel you are owed a free month of service and have proof that there was a promotion you should have received then escalate that, but don't yell and scream at a customer service rep for your misunderstanding of the other part of your frustration.  Verizon CS has been very helpful and courteous to me and my family.  And, they answer the phone quickly and here in the USA which is a huge plus for me.

  • Multiple Issues with HTC 8X and Verizon Doesn't Care

I have had this phone for three months and had this issue the whole time.  Searched Verizon and Windows forums and found the same thing.  Only Verizon HTC 8X having this issue.  On top of that I am now having hardware issues.  Phone SIM not showing up as connected and have to restart or re-seat the SIM.  Battery life has gone down drastically.  Overnight charge gets me 11 hours tops without using my Data plan with WIFI off and other major apps closed out.  Shouldn't have to do that to utilize features on a smart phone.  As soon as I begin using my data plan the 11 hours is cut in half.  Not to mention if I use the phone for GPS navigation it gets drained in 30 minutes to and hour.  Then the software is now freezing.  Either freezes completly and have to restart or applications i try to open, stall and then go  back to the start menu.  I have to then power off the phone which freezes and 15 minutes later powers off.  3 months into the phones contract.  Ridiculous.  Bought from Letstalk.com and they told me I am SOL.  14 days for return and 30 for exchange.  Go see HTC.  HTC says i'm SOL.  Go to Verizon and get a new SIM.  Factory Reset the device as  well.  If that doesn't help, ship it to us and we will repair.  Are you kidding.  I am a consultant for a major merger and acquisition company that deals with infrastructure practices all day.  Send you my phone for repair on a 3 month old phone.  Are you kidding me.  Finally talked to Verizon.  They are not consciously aware of the HTC 8x missed call three beep scenario when it has been on there forums since December of this year.  With all my issues they told me I'm SOL.  I don't want to send it in for repair.  That is ridiculous.  What will that solve.  A couple of the issues.  What about the three beep issue the has plagued me for months. A refurbished of a different model from two years ago, no thanks.  I received a new phone three months ago.  So you wanna make it my fault and tell me here take an iphone 4 from two years ago from 300 dollars.  I am furious with this and want to proceed with making sure this lack of decent service for an issue like this is resolved and others don't have to face this type of treatment.  I paid good money for a smartphone with reliable service.  So far i'm being told to bend over and take it from everyone.  I feel that the three beep issue alone is a breach of the contract I have with Verizon and I should be able to constitute that right and terminate this disease.

    Hello,
I received my new "reconditioned" phone to replace my 6 month old Droid 4.
The replacement phone only holds a charge for 6 hours or so, with minimal
    use (no internet).
I am VERY unhappy. I left a message with the store employee who helped me
    activate the replacement
phone, but have not heard back. This is really disappointing. I paid a lot
of money AND signed an additional
2 year contract in order to purchase my Droid 4. Now I am stuck with a piece
of junk phone as is my other
employee who has a replaced Droid 4 as well. The store even told me they had
"issues" with this model (battery completely died on my phone 619-XXX-XXXX
    as well as on 760-XXX-XXXX).
We concluded that when both our Droid 4 phones died within a couple of
    months of each other.
AT the very least, we should have our phones replaced with new, so they can
at least hold a charge and be used for
our business as the purpose they were purchased  for.
I would think making this right, since this is quite obviously NOT our fault
would be clear if you expect to retain customers.

  • Help with Droid Selection and also travel to Canada?

I am being given a choice between the Samsung Stratosphere, the Motorola Droid 4, and the HTC Incredible 2. The Stratosphere and Droid 4 are very similar phones. Both have physical keyboards as well as touch screens. The big difference I can see is the Droid 4 has 16GB (double) the memory. Both the Stratosphere and Droid 4 are 4G, but the Incredible 2 is not.
I travel mostly in the US, but do travel to Canada a couple of times a year. I have been told that the Stratosphere and Droid 4 are domestic only phone and that the Incredible 2 is recommended for international travel.
    1. Will the Stratosphere and Droid 4 work in Toronto ... but reverted to 3G?
    2. Recommendations on a choice between the Stratosphere and the Droid 4?
    Thanks in advance!

Any 4g phone will work in Canada/Mexico... on CDMA (3g).
The Stratosphere is a phone from 2010 with LTE bolted on (it's virtually identical to Sprint's version of 2010's Galaxy S, the Epic 4g). The Droid 4 is a RAZR with a keyboard bolted on...
Droid 4 is the far superior device from a hardware standpoint.
Either phone is better than the Incredible 2, due to LTE.

  • Having issues with MacBook Pro and Verizon Mobile Hotspot

    Hey everyone,
I bought a MacBook Pro with the Lion OS. I recently switched to Verizon and got an HTC Thunderbolt so I could use it as a hotspot at home and when I travel.
The problem I am having is when I turn the Mobile Hotspot on is, it will connect and stay connected for anywhere from 2 to 10 minutes and then it will work intermittently after that until I turn it off. I've talked to Verizon Tech Support probably 30 times in the last 3 months about the issue. They sent me another SIM card and a new Thunderbolt at first. The issue did not go away, so they offered me a Samsung Charge. Got it and it did the same thing. So I told them to send me back a Thunderbolt, because its a better phone and the Charge was too glitchy.
I've been to the Apple Store twice now and they dont know why its happening either. The only thing that has remained constant throughout this whole troubleshooting process has been my MacBook Pro. My questions are: Is anyone else experiencing this type of behavior? and What could possibly be causing this issue?
Im a new Mac user, so Im not sure how to troubleshoot issues like this, or if there are compatibility issues Im not aware of.
    Thanks for your help,
    Matt

    Hi Matt,
Did this ever get resolved for you? I have the exact same problem except I'm running Snow Leopard on a MacBook and my phone is a Droid Incredible 2. When I use the hopstpot from a ThinkPad running Windows 7 or a System76 netbook running Linux Mint it works perfectly. But when I try to use my MacBook it connects for, like you said, anywhere between 3-10 minutes and then connection is intermittent and super slow. I haven't gone through the motions of contacting Verizon yet...
    Thanks,
    Aileen

  • Droid rebooting and Verizon reps want to make it my issue!!!!!!!.......

I am having the same issues with my phone.  I went into the Verizon store downtown DC last month and the customer service rep said that he also had a droid and it was rebooting on its own as well but that Verizon was supposed to be coming up with an update to solve the situation.  He also told me that there was no point in getting a "NEW" refurbished phone because it would do the same thing since it was a problem with the droid's.   I went in today and they told me that it was not a known problem and that I had solutions.  The first was I could get the new refurbished phone and chance it happening again, I could set up a new line on an account that is not even mine, pay 9.99 for the new account and then pay the upgrade price, or I can pay full price for a different droid which runs about $500 and then they will give me a $50 credit......That does not seem like a fair solution.  I work with children and need to have my phone available and working at all times in case we are outside and there is an emergency.  Again the managers at the Verizon store in downtown DC said that it was not a known problem....How can it not be a known problem and there are so many people on here complaining about the same problem?  This is not my problem or issue and should not be dropped in my lap.  I should not have to pay more money for a phone that was already expensive to begin with.

  • So frustrated with Droid Charge and the Customer Service

Going to receive my 5th Droid Charge tomorrow!  Phone drops calls, phone shuts down when taking pictures, battery last for 2 hrs and there are no batteries in stock.  The CSR told  me to go to Amazon and order on and then Verizon will reimburse me...yeah, right!  Or they will give me a Thunderbolt which I checked out after I got off of the phone and it doesn't sound any better.  Can't understand why I have to settle for a phone that doesn't work most of the time.  I have never been late on paying my bill and expect better quality and service than I am receiving.
No real recourse...take it or leave it attitude when speaking to ALL Verizon employees!  They say they care but the service doesn't reflect their words.  Been a customer for over 17 years and hate to move to another company and sure don't feel I should have to pay to get out of a contract on a phone that I have to shut down and bring up again when I need to make a call or send a text.  SO FRUSTRATED!!!!!!!

We have two droid charge phones that we got in April on Amazon.  We are trying to troubleshoot with Samsung and getting not much help.  Phone dies quickly at times, but not other times.  It consistently shuts off when taking pictures, though, on both phones.  It is clear to us that the phone has a problem because we have two.  I've seen two work-arounds.  One is getting a bigger battery that requires a new larger phone back.  The other is to put the phone in Airplane Mode.  Apparently, this problem is due to a "power load" issue.  So, the phones are inherently defective.
We likes the phones and at times we have fooled into thinking they are working fine... because at times the camera works fine. We haven't had any replacement phones because it seems that so many have this issue and therefore, what is the point.  We would like to know if other Droid Charge cameras don't have this issue because we expect to be able to use the camera.  We have 3 little boys and we already have lost pictures from the last day of school because we counted on this phone.  Sounds like a small problem until you look at it that way.
Really wish Amazon, Verizon or Samsung could get us a good solution.

  • Unhappy with my change to Verizon

I have been a consistant Verizon customer for about 15yrs. A couple of years ago I bungeled my tv, internet, landline with ATT.  after the promotion was over my bill was extremely high.  So I looked into canceling my internet service with ATT. I investigated what Verizon had to offer, I spoke to their sales people and I made the change. I never had any problems with Verizon so I agreed to a 3yr contract.  I am a grandmother, not really tech saavy.  I do not know what a gygabite is.  So I strated with 1 and worked my way up to 4.  Even with 4gb I had an overage.  When my grandchildren come over now they are not allowed to use my computer and they are not allowed to play games that need internet access, they are not allowed to stream movies and I have to watch my useage so I don't go over. Now my verizon bill is much higher than my ATT ever was. I don't know if I was advised on the wrong plan or what? I AM REALLY dissatisfied. I plan on changing as soon as I find the correct carrier. Do I get a response, or is this just a place to vent?

Is your data through a cell phone or DSL or Fios? 3 year contract makes me think you are a residential customer for Internet service. As the wireless side only offers two year contracts
If so you need to go to the residential forum to have your question addressed.

  • Avoid the Droid Bionic and if you are a potential customer, avoid Verizon

Back on November 16th, just 15 days ago, I purchased the Droid Bionic phone.  Twice in the past two days the screen has stopped working, but I know the phone is still on because I can hear the notification alerts as well as see the blinking lights for a text message and such and can hear the phone ring when I have had a call.  I have had to pop out the battery and reinsert it to get the phone working.
One would think that a phone bought brand new that is already experiencing problems and that someone paid a lot of money for would be replaced.  Well, not with Verizon.  I talked to someone at the Verizon store where I purchased it and was told that they would not replace it but would only go through warranty services in which I would recieve what Verizon likes to call a "certified 'like' new" phone.  Now, to anyone with common sense, this is what normal people call a used phone.  But telling the manager that it is wrong to replace a brand new phone with a used one completely confused her and made her argue that it wasn't used.
I recently went through the hassle of one of these used, oh excuse me "certified 'like' new" phones.  About a month before my phone contract expired, my previous phone, the LG enV Touch went bad.  Now I am someone who prides myself on taking care of my electronic equipment.  The person at the Verizon store who helped me with the warranty process on it was impressed how my enV Touch looked new even after 2 years.  The replacement "certified 'like' new" phone I recieved had a scratched screen, gunk around the 2 bottom buttons on the front, and a filthy keyboard.  It hadn't even been cleaned and took me quite a while to clean the gunk from the buttons.  I said nothing, which was a mistake on my part, because I knew I would be getting a new phone in about a months time.
It is just absolutely ridiculous, and bad customer service, that after just 15 days someone who spends a fairly sizable sum of money would have to exchange out a new phone with a used phone.  I have a family share plan with Verizon with 2 lines coming up for renewal in a couple of weeks.  Verizon will not continue my business on those lines and I am sure that one of the other companies will be glad to get it.
And to Verizon, perhaps you should rethink how you treat customers.  I have been with Verizon ever since they moved to Huntsville when they bought out GTE Wireless.  I can understand a 14 day exchange policy being strictly enforced when there is no issue with a product, but when a product shows to be defective on the 15th day, it's rather very poor customer relation to tell them they have to take a used product a half a month after buying something new when it is no fault of the customer.
I hope this helps anyone who may be considering the Droid Bionic and Verizon.

That's always been standard practice for Verizon. Six years ago, my LG Chocolate went - like new replacement. Then my EnV3 - like new. It's the manufacturer who should be more responsible. I was really hoping I wouldn't have the same issues my with my new Bionic!  Good luck. Hey, if you have a problem, I would go to a Verizon owned store and check out your replacement before you accept it. Gunk is gross.

  • Apple and Verizon?

The thought of being with AT&T has always scared me so I stay with my Treo and Verizon. But I REALLY want an iPhone. Anyone know if Apple and Verizon are going to work their issues out in the near future? Anyone know when the AT&T contract is up?

    jgalvar wrote:
If this isn't true...I wonder why Apple doesn't make and sell an iPhone to both ATT and Verizon.
Because Verizon are smaller than the smallest UK operator - they are nothing in terms of subscribers and thats assuming that 100% of Verizon customers took up the iPhone.
    Can you imagine the profit?
No, there wouldn;'t be any - see above.
So what it may cost more to make a CDMA but Apple would reap ridiculous amounts of money. The iPhone would then be capable of taking over ALL mobile technology.
No, it wouldn't and you know so little about the costs of the suggestion its best to not embarrass yourself further

I received my new Verizon Edge bill in the mail and it is $80 higher than my old plan.  I have been so unhappy with this change over.  Went through hell getting our second phone activated because of a weird computer glitch and when we asked if we would receive any consideration for the time, travel, and money we put into getting the phones the way they were supposed to be, we were told to wait until the bill came and then they could make adjustments.  Now I have the bill and have no idea "who" the we would be that could make adjustments.  To top it off, the only way I know my account will get any attention is to post this in chat.  I am so disappointed and will be counting the months until our phones are paid off and we can change companies.

I just purchased a new device using Verizon Edge. Why does my bill look higher than normal?
There’s two reasons why your first bill after signing up for Edge might be higher than normal:
Prorate Charges – If you upgraded an existing line and did a price plan change, you may have price plan charges and credits that went into effect the day you upgraded.
Sales Tax – Most states require sales tax on the full retail price paid by the customer, which in most instances will be charged at the time of the first invoice.
Note: Customers who purchased devices in AL, AZ, CO, IL, NM, ND or SD will be billed taxes and surcharges monthly as payments are made.
    Your bill will normally include:
    Your last Edge installment payment
    The next Edge installment charge
If you are on a MORE Everything Plan, a monthly access discount for each qualifying line.
The details of Edge installments and discounts can be viewed at the line level portion of your bill under Monthly Charges and Equipment Charges, or in My Verizon, My Bill then Charges By Line.

  • I just signed up for Verizon 45 days ago and am unhappy with my service? I have decided to switch to another service provider. Are there any other cancellation fees on top of the $350 per line fee? Am I stuck with the phone?

I just signed up with Verizon 45 days ago and am unhappy with my service. I know about the ETF fee of $350/ per line but are there any other fees I will need to pay for the actual phone.

There are no other fees. You are not stuck with the phone, you can do whatever you would like to do with it.

    Hi there JByrd,
Let's take a closer look into this. What plan are you currently on? If you are on the More Everything plan, then you shouldn't have to do anything additional. If you are on the Nationwide plan it is an additional $20 a month for 2 GB of data. Let us know what plan you have. Thanks!

Hey Erin how about you confirm to Elector and others that you HAVE to pay for tethering on Nationwide plans and that if you are using a 3rd tethering app to bypass paying you are violating the terms of service. They don't seem to believe me.

  • Why the inconsistency with the "Droid" name and Android devices.

This seems like poor marketing to me.
Verizon made such a big deal about the name DROID.
The was the DROID and the DROID ERIS, now there is the DROID INCREDIBLE and the DROID X and soon to be the DROID 2.
But why is there the Moto Devour and LG Ally instead of the DROID DEVOUR by Motorola and the DROID ALLY by LG?

    dabubbakin wrote:
I can't help it just say Incredible, or HTC Incredible. I leave out the "droid" nonsense because I always get some cell phone illiterate person saying "you got a droid cool, my entire family just got free ones on an upgrade". You know what I'm saying. It's just annoying to have to explain or show people what I have and what they have or want..
I really wish VZW let Moto only use that term.
Back when the Incredible was a rumor it was cool to think something different was coming out. They announced it as the HTC "Droid" Incredible. Geez.... Whatever....
YEah I get what they are doing but it is leading to a lot of irritation.  People talk about the DROID and could be talking about any of them.  So yeah I just call them the Droid (moto Droid), Incredible (HTC DROID Incredible), Eris (HTC DROID ERIS), Ally (LG Droid ALLY), Devour (Moto Droid Devour), Droid X (because DROID X just sounds awesome even if Droid is over done).  I would like a Samsung personally mostly because I have had nothing but good experiences with Samsung phones and since my Droid was good with phone calls (better after some modding) I have to think that a Samsung Android phone would be Gnarly on VZW.  It is odd but it seems to me certain manufacturers are better on GSM and some are better on CDMA.  Samsung and LG seem better on CDMA where Motorola and a few others are better with GSM.  Or at least that has been my experience with feature phones over the last what 15 years.  Or I guess not when ever 3G came out would be GSM/CDMA but also back when I was on Sprint, Bell South, and GTE,  Bell South I had great luck with Nokia and Moto - Eventually they became GSM and were swollowed by AT&T a few years ago, Sprint my Moto was good but I always had better signals with Samsung and LG phones, and GTE which shortly after was swollowed by Verizon has always been good with Samsung and LG (LG has been a little more hit or miss they have had a few misses though which is why I am more excited about Samsung than LG) and the MOTOROLA phones I had were the ones where I was counting the days until my upgrade.
The DROID name is about branding.  They want to stand out as a big ANDROID player and one way to do that is to snatch up as many Android phones as you can get the manufacturers to make you and the other is to unify their image on your network with Branding.  The idea being to get people thinking DROID and kind of downplay the Motorola, HTC, LG, Samsung, etc roles.  Really it is something Google should have thought and had it on all the Android phones but Verizon is using it mostly for marketing purposes.  It makes for some interesting commercials and has been successful.  What gets me though is when people refer to EVO and Mytouch Slide as Droids because they are Android phones.  LOL.  Doesn't bother me but probably would bother Verizon if it ever made it to a major platform.  The marketing is so effective it is about to be like Jello and Aspirin and Coke in the south.  Any gelatin desert or generic Aspirin or soda is called by one of these names no matter who makes it.  Bayer lost that battle a long time ago but the other two persist.

  • Can I unlock my Droid Charge and use it with a sim card in India?

How can I unlock my Droid Charge and use it with a sim card in India?

You just have to call VZW Global TS and as long as you meet all of the requirments you will be able to unlock your phone.
Must be a Verizon Wireless customer.
The device being unlocked must be active on a VZW line of service.
The line of service must be active for at least 60 days.
For converted accounts from acquisitions or mergers (i.e. Alltel, Unicel/RCC, etc.), the line of service must be active in the VZW billing system for 60 days from the conversion date.
The line of service must be in good standing for the past 60 days.  Good Standing is defined as:
    Balance must be current
No service suspensions or hotlines in the past 60 days.
Customer may only have one 3G SIM unlock per line every 10 months.
The customer's manufacturer's device warranty is not affected by a 3G SIM unlock as long as the customer remains with VZW.

  • What to choose? And what to do with Droid Bionic?

So now that we all know Verizon is getting the top 3 phones for the holiday season i am wondering what phone of the 3 would you go for. HTC Rezound, Droid Razr, Samsung Nexus.
The reason I ask is  that I have a Droid Bionic and although I have not experienced any of the problems that most people complaint about. I have had some apps disappeared. And sometimes I have to connect to my works WIFI to get data even though I have full blown LTE coverage in my area. I don't want my bionic anymore so I will put it up for sale and get the HTC Rezound.

In exchange for the slimmer form factor of the Razr vs your Bionic, you wil be getting a sealed battery that cannot be replaced, cannot be swapped for a heavy duty battery and cannot be rebooted by pulling the battery as may sometimes be required.
I'm also not sure why you think the phones you mentioned won't have as many, if not more issues than your Bionic. The last Samsung I had was the Charge and that was an unequivical disaster. No more Sammys for me.
All of the 4G phones have the connection issue to one degree or another. That won't change until Verizon does something with their 4G network.
My advice? Stick with your Bionic.
Some combination of the volume/power buttons will probably serve the same purpose as a battery pull on the Razr.  Like you said, the sealed battery is probably a bad idea with the inefficiency of current LTE devices.  Still not a fan of blur either but it seems to be getting better.
As for the Nexus, don't let the image of previous Samsung devices sway you.  Software is Samsung's main weak point but that has been removed from the equation as Google will be providing the update.  No bloat or manufacturer skin to way it down.  It'll be the first ICS phone so it'll likely have its own list of bugs and quirks but what phone doesn't. No SD card is really the only downside I can see and that's all a matter of personal preference.
The Rezound is pretty much a Thunderbolt on steroids.  It'll be a good device but will suffer from the same battery issues as previous HTC phones since they keep trying to put the smallest battery possible in it.  Almost twice the thickness of the Razr and they still can't keep up with battery capacity.  Plus it may be "ICS ready" but it'll probably be months before anyone actually sees it.
Very informative post. Are tou saying the Nexus will not have a microSD card included?
