Unidentified 'Icons' in Design View
Hi Guys...can somebody please tell me what the yellow 'icons' 'markers' signify...other than I have stuffed up?
Dreamweaver's way of showing you Invisible Elements in your code.
Helpful in Design View to show you various 'modules' of code on your page.
Edit > Preferences > Invisible Elements identifies each one and gives you the option to toggle them on or off

I only see "PHP" icons in Design View, not the executed code
I have setup a new database installation and tested it - no problem. I can open my webpage in Firefox, and the php code executes properly. When I imported this site into Dreamweaver, I am unable to see the results of any executed PHP code, just "PHP" icons.
Is it possible to view the results of the executed PHP code in Dreamweaver. I'm not talking about complicated PHP code, just a bunch of 'echo' statements really.

In answer to your question, PHP is a server-side language that needs to be parsed (executed) through a web server capable of handling PHP code. In order to see the output of the PHP code, you need to set up a testing server. Instructions on how to do so can be found in this article in the Dreamweaver Developer Centre. Once you have set up a testing server, you can see the output of the PHP code in Design view by activating Live View (in Dreamweaver CS4) or Live Data view in earlier versions of Dreamweaver. -
Custom ActionScript Component icon in Design View
Hi,
I have created a custom ActionScript component in Flex. I have added the Icon metadata tag before the class definition:

However, though the path to the image is correct, the icon for the custom component does not show up in Design View.
Any idea ?

Invisible text in design view, how do I make it visible?
I cant figure out why the text in Dreamweaver is invisible,
though I can highlight it still, and see it fine in code view. I
cant make it visible in design view. I dont see css attached to the
text itself, only to the block, and other site elements, but
something in css is causing the text to be hidden and I dont know
how to make it visible. Anybody know what I should be editing or
looking to edit?
Thanks ahead of time.It sounds like a containing element may have display:none,
and that is
altered by JavaScript in the browser. DW Design View does not
run
JavaScript, so you won't see elements like that in Design
View.
If this is the case, and you are running CS3 (I think?) or
later, go to
Preferences > Invisible Elements and make sure
display:none elements are
turned on. This will show an icon in Design View that you
can
right-click and use Element View > Full (shortcut is to
double-click) on
to temporarily see that element. Use Element View > Hidden
(or F5) to
revert to the default view.
You can also override display:none in a Design-time Style
Sheet if you
want to always see that/those elements.

CS5 Design View: local page + images on server - images don't display
I've recently upgraded to DW CS5. I sometimes have occasion to design pages containing images that are on the server.
In DW8, images on the server would display in Design View.
In DW CS5, images on the server display a broken image icon in Design View.
Yes, I know I can switch to Live View, but I'd rather not, as I find Live View very difficult to edit in (if at all; I can somewhat edit in the code, but what's the point?). I'd far rather be able to see the images as I'm writing the page in Design View.
Am I missing some setting somewhere, or is this the way it is?function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}

Note: When inserting images it’s also possible to use an absolute path to an image that resides on a remote server (i.e., an image that is not available on the local hard drive). If you experience performance problems while working, however, you might want to disable viewing the image in Design view by deselecting Commands > Display External Files. -
PHP icon not showing in design view
I just ordered Studio 8 and currently working on the demo
version of Dreamweaver 8. I had been using FrontPage for many years
and I finally hit it's limitations. I am creating new pages from
scratch and not importing any of my older FrontPage web pages. I am
coding in PHP and noticed this nice php icon that shows in my
design view of where all my php code is. This FrontPage could never
do. I have a table that is doing multiple "include" calls. I am
able to successfully add 2 lines of code, which generates two php
icons in my design view. When I try to add a 3rd line of php code,
it removes all of the nice php icons in the design view. For the
rest of the document, if I add more code, then the icons will not
show up. The PHP is in the code view, but the design view is no
longer showing the php icon. Does anyone have any ideas on how to
make them show up permanently? This is one of many great features
of Dreamweaver that drove me to purchase it.Thank you for the quick response. I went home and took a look
at my code. It matches pretty closely with what you offered as a
suggestion. That didn't seem to fix the issues I am having. Maybe
there is something I am missing that will stand out for you.

Can not see the design view nor the java file in CentOS
Hi all. I've recently installed JSC2 in CentOS. I find this tool really useful. But I have a problem with the design view and the java file view. At the beginning, when I first create a Page1.jsp, I can see the design view and the java view with no problem. I run apps correctly. But after a while, I get a "null pointer exception" error and I am able to see only the jsp view, not the others. I don't even have the option to see the Design and Java views. And the page icon in the project window appears to be darker than a well working page. I'm not really sure what sequence of actions I do to get this error, it just suddenly happens. What I've done so far in JSC2 is to link to pages in the Page Navigation view. It works fine for a while, but after a while I get the error I've described.
Yes, if I do that It happens the same. I've tried everything. Now I'm using Window$ 2000 and it works properly. Thanks anyway.

Certain images not showing up in Design View
Hi,
I recently switched from Dreamweaver CS5.5 to CS6 with Creative Cloud but now some of my images aren't showing up in Design View. Everything is fine in Live View.

The MORE buttons aren't images. They are in the HTML and appear to be styled with CSS to look like button images.

Unfortunately, Design View is incapable of displaying CSS border-radius, gradients, shadows and other CSS level 3 properties. That's why we have Live View which behaves more like a real browser.
If you can't live with this, disable CSS in DW by going to View > Style Rendering > untick display styles.
Or, use a Design-Time Style Sheet that contains no CSS level 3 properties.

Small images not showing in design view
Desperate for help! I've been trying to diagnose this for a
long time. For some strange reason, images that used to show up in
my design view are now displaying the 'missing image' icon. I've
narrowed it down to this--if the image is less than 8px high, the
image will not display. When I increase it to 8px or more high
(width does not have any bearing on it), the image is displayed.
Same exact image name, same placement, path, file type, etc. The
only variable changed is the image height. Someone please tell me
what is going on. By the way, this just started to happen. These
small images were displaying fine up until yesterday.You have two id="header" elements on the page....
I can see both the 5px tall GIF and JPG images just fine in
CS4.

Can't see design view after changing connections file from localhost to a remote host & back again
I was using localhost to test files before changing the connections document over to a remote host, since I couldn't get dreamweaver to connect to the remote host, I changed back to localhot. My files are all .php files. This is a dynamic site. After I changed my connection back to my local host my design view no longer works. It's competly grey with 3 small icons at the top on the left. I can view in live view and I can view in the browser. But no longer in design view after being able to for 6 months. The 3 icons are a hard drive case, a document, and a link symbol . When I click in code view the design view turns grey when I click in design view it turns white. I am using wamp for the localhost, Windows XP home, Dreamweaver CS5. Can someone please tell me how to go back to design view. This happens with any & all files including non dynamic .html files. Also having a problem connecting to my remote host. using godaddy, and they have tried with me for 2 hours to connect, I just keep getting password is incorrect. Thank you for any help, Stacey
I would also recommend clearing the Site cache, which may help with the connection failure. To do so, choose Site > Advanced > Recreate Site Cache.
After doing so, be sure to go back into your Site Setup, and make sure the FTP address, user name, and password are all correct. (Click the Test button in there to verify.)
If that doesn't help with getting connected to your server, you might try an alternate FTP client (e.g. FileZilla) to just make sure you are entering the right connection information. It could be that GoDaddy is having some issue, or maybe you just mistyped something (I know I do this often when I type too fast).
As for the issue with Design View, try clearing the Dreamweaver cache. Instructions are here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/494811
You might also try toggling the location of Design View. That is, when in Split View, choose View > Design View On Left. Then, choose that menu option again to reset the location back to the right.
Resetting the workspace might also be recommended. Window > Worksapce Layout > Reset 'name of current workspace' -
My 'Design View' has stopped working in CS5. How can I get it functioning again?
I've looked through the existing topics and couldn't find an answer.
I hadn't made anything in DreamweaverCS5 for a a few months, but when I went today to create a new HTML document, I couldn't do anything in 'Design View' . I have not changed anything with the program at all. I still checked Edit>Preferences>File Types/Editors and .html is not listed for 'Code View'. The 'Split' and 'Design View' buttons are clickable, but when I click in 'Design View' the Properties Inspector grays out. I also can't type anything into the field. There are two icons at the top, one for the meta tag and the other for the title tag in the 'Code View'.
I haven't the slightest idea as to why this is no longer working. This has never happened before. I did nothing but create a blank document. I'm on a PC. Any help with this would be extremely appreciated.And just like that, I figured it out.
For some reason, the 'head content' had overtaken the 'Design View'. I clicked the down pointing arrow on the grayed out Properties Inspector just to try something else, and also to see what was hidden. When I did that, the top part of the 'Design View' peeked out a little from under the 'head content' area. I enlarged the 'Design View' field and realized what was going on. I still have no idea why that happened on it's own since I've never enlarged the view for 'head content' before. I actually usually don't have it enabled. I guess it's like a lot of people complain, Design View is quite buggy. -
Dreamweaver CS6 for Mac: Is there a way to display the file path in Design View?
Under Windows, DW's Design View shows you the path to the current file, right next to the document tab. I noticed the Mac version omits this handy feature. For those of us who work with lots of similarly named files distinguished only by folders, being able to quickly see what folder we're in is crucial. (see image below -- that's where Windows shows you the path, but is blank in Mac)
Is there something I'm missing, or some way to get that functioning? I know that I can see the path if I switch to Live View, but that is kludgy and breaks my workflow.I use CoderPlus workspace & tabbed panels. For me, the file url is on the far right side. See screenshot.
If you click the "Page Icon" in upper right corner to tile, the URL shows on the left side.

How to add multiple presets to responsive design view without having to resize the screen each time
I want to be able to add multiple screen size presets to the responsive design view capability but don't want to have to resize the screen and add each one individually via the custom preset function.
Have seen that some posts on the internet (http://g-liu.com/blog/2013/08/firefox-rdm-presets/) that say this can be done but cannot find where the config is held in ver 26.0?You can also do the opposite and create custom settings in the responsive design mode window.
You can hold down the Shift key and drag the borders via the (right border, bottom border, bottom right corner) resize icons to get specific dimensions and give the current custom setting a name to add them as a preset.
This will add the preset to the devtools.responsiveUI.presets pref.

When I click Live View, I can see my page, and it shows up in a browser just fine, but I can't edit in that mode. However, when I click Live View again, I just get a gray, blank page with the tag, meta, sytle, script, and link icons at the top left. I've been tinkering with it for the last two hours, and nothing I try is getting the page to appear in Design, or Split view. It's driving me nuts. Any suggestions?

Logo Replacement
An image placeholder was used in this layout in the .header where you'll likely want to place a logo. It is recommended that you remove the placeholder and replace it with your own linked logo.
Be aware that if you use the Property inspector to navigate to your logo image using the SRC field (instead of removing and replacing the placeholder), you should remove the inline background and display properties. These inline styles are only used to make the logo placeholder show up in browsers for demonstration purposes.
To remove the inline styles, make sure your CSS Styles panel is set to Current. Select the image, and in the Properties pane of the CSS Styles panel, right click and delete the display and background properties. (Of course, you can always go directly into the code and delete the inline styles from the image or placeholder there.)
