Universe Connection - SQL 2000 to 2005 upgrade
We are using Designer 11.5.0.0 and have a Universe that is designed as Secured Type, OLEDB connection to a SQL Server 2000 Server/Database and WEBI reports have been developed using this Universe.
The plan is to upgrade to SQL Server 2005 and there will be no changes to any of the database tables that are used in the Universe.
My first question is .... once that happens, do I need to do anything to the Universe like update the connection, export it or anything else?
Second question is .... once the Universe is "upgraded" to the new SQL Server 2005 server/database, will the reports still work or do they need to be modified in any way?
Thanks for your comments !
One thing make sure that the schema name or owner name should be same along with the table names in the new database.
In the designer create a new connection pointing to the new database, export the universe to the CMC.
1) make sure that you use the proper middleware to create the new connection. pionting to new database.
2) No need to do any changes to the reports... the reports will take the connection used to the universe.
Thanks,

Connecting sql 2000 to sap NW was
I want to develop webdynpro java applications connecting Sql 2000 . I have done examples using R/3 , webservices etc .
Please give me a detailed step by step guide else a good link
Thanks in advance
BhatThank mil.. :-) It is working...!!!No problem glad to hear it.
By the way you can use Windows authentication (if it is a requirement) but I don't believe that driver version supports it. You can use the JTDS driver ( a free open source type 4 driver) instead because that does support Windows authentication.
Again though.. only if you need it. -
Connecting SQL Analysis Services 2005 cube with obiee 10g
Hello experts,
I'm trying to link an SQL Analysis Services 2005 cube with obiee 10g.
In Oracle BI Administration, when I choose File -> Import -> From
Multi-dimensional, I have to fill the next gaps:
Provider Type: Analysis Services 2005
URL: ***********
User: blank
Password: blank
Before to do that, I need to create the URL path.
To create the URL, I have followed this link.
http://erpthings.blogspot.com/2008/08/obiee-connection-to-msas-2005-
cube.html
But, it hasn't worked because when I was trying to configure the HTTP
access to SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services, we have to perform a test to ensure that it has been well configured. In IIS -> WebSites -> Default WebSites -> olap, we should browse the document called "msmdpump.dll" and this should show an xml document, but it doesn't.
Thanks!Hi Alex
It sounds like your MS data pump might not be configured correctly. First ensure that is working before trying to put the values into OBIEE. Don't worry about the 500 error - I get that too instead of an XML page.
You can read a bit more about SSAS support on my blog here:
http://total-bi.com/2010/12/obiee-sql-server-analysis-services-cubes/
Here's the link to Microsoft's description of setting up msmdpump.dll

In our test environment, we are on 2005 SP01 PL34, and are
upgrading SQL Enterprise Edition from the 2000 to the 2005 SP2 edition.
The SQL upgrade advisor has given some error messages
in relation to SAP tables, as per below. Should we be concerned about
these, or will they have any effect on upgrading from SAP B1 2005 to
2007 versions?
Remove references to undocumented system tables
Many system tables that were undocumented in prior releases have changed or no longer exist; therefore, using these tables may cause errors after upgrading to SQL server 2005.
Affected tables
Object Name : TmSP_GetDbSizeByDrives
Object Type : P
System Table : spt_value
Object Name : TmSP_CheckDiskSpace
The above messages point to SAP stored procedures.I believe all those SP are temporary SP for you previous upgrade. Therefore. it should be no problem to upgrade your test database first. You have to back up the pre upgrade database anyway, you should be safe.
Thanks,

Is there any changes required in the custom dts package when migration from BPC 4.2 , sql 2000 Environment to bpc 7.0 , SQL 2005/2008 Environment.
or
Please suggest process for migrating custom dts package from BPC 4.2 ,SQL 2000 Envirnment to BPC 7.0 ,SQL 2005/2008 EnvironmentWhen you say "custom dts package" that can mean many different things. What type of customization has been done?
There are a few BPC-related features which changed from 4.2, which must be manually adjusted, if you're using those features.
But SQL itself also changed dramatically in moving from SQL 2000 to 2005. So if your customer's packages are heavily customized around SQL 2000, this may require substantial re-work.
The only migration process for custom DTS packages -- that I'm aware of -- is to use the SQL 2005 migration tool in SSIS, see how much it messed up, and then fix everything else that's still broken.
But there also may be opportunities to improve the package overall. SQL 2005 has a lot of great new features in SSIS, over what was there in SQL 2000.
I haven't started working with SQL 2008 yet, so I can't say what complexity there is in upgrading DTS packages from 2005 to 2008. From what I read in the BPC 7 release notes, it sounds like it's a very minor upgrade, compared to the jump from 2000 to 2005. -
SQL 2000 AND SQL 2005 ON THE SAME SERVER
Hi all ,
I have an installation of SAP4.7SR1 /MSSQL2000 on a windows 2003 server.
I want to install SAP SOLUTION MANAGER 4.0 /MSSQL2005 on the same server ... it is possible that two version of SQL ( 2000 and 2005 ) coexists on the same server ? It's sufficent to install SQL into two different directory ?
Thank's a lot.
Antonio Voce.Hi,
yes it is possible to install SQL2000 and SQL2005 on same server but there are certain special considerations that you should be aware of
look at following blog
http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlblog/archive/2006/09/27/co-existence-of-sql-2005-with-sql-2000.aspx
also look http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143694.aspx
but in case of SAP Installation i prefered that to upgarde SQL2000 to SQL2005 then install solman 4.0

How to connect jbuilder and sql 2000
i faced a problem of connecting sql 2000 and jbuilder 6...........thanks for the help
What was wrong with the advice you got here?
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?thread=479209&forum=48&message=2229465
You asked this question two weeks ago. Have you done nothing in all that time?
You don't need JBuilder to develop Java. A newbie would be better off just using a text editor and compiling and running on the command line. JBuilder is just one more thing you don't understand.
Have you ever done JDBC before? If not, read this tutorial:
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/jdbc/
You deserve to flunk that course if all you can manage in two weeks is to ask the same lame question again. - MOD -

Resource Breaks When Upgrade from SQL Server 2000 to 2005 - Help!
I have a resource that connects to mutiple databases:
<ResourceAttribute name='Databases' displayName='com.waveset.adapter.RAMessages:RESATTR_DATABASES'
description='com.waveset.adapter.RAMessages:RESATTR_DATABASES_HELP' multi='true'>
<value>dbOne</value>
<value>dbTwo</value>
<value>Employee_Info</value>
</ResourceAttribute>
It all works fine when the backend SQL server is 2000, but since we've upgraded it to 2005, the connection fails with this error:
Test connection failed for resource(s):MenuSQL: Required database dbOne not found.MenuSQL: Required database dbTwo not found.MenuSQL: Required database Employee_Info not found.
I'm using the MS SQL JDBC driver for 2005 and I've verified that my connection url is good:jdbc:sqlserver://%h:%p;databaseName=%d;integratedSecurity=true; where %h and %p are the correct host and ports.
I turned on tracing of com.waveset.adapter.MSSQLServerResourceAdapter and com.waveset.adapter.JdbcResourceAdapter and I don't see any errors or issues reported.
If I set it back to connect to the SQL 2000 databases, it works. If I change it to only connect to one database, rather than 3 it works. However, I need this working on 2005 with all three databases. Any ideas on what I can look at or how I can further troubleshoot this?
Thanks in advance for any help!Turns out the driver I'm using is fine (sqljdbc.jar). The problem is that the IdM source code executes "sp_databases" to list the databases. In SQL versions prior to 2005 this would work by default. But with 2005 a user has to be granted permissions to do so.
To fix it you need to either grant the IdM ID you're using VIEW DEFINITION permission at an appropriate scope: object level, database level or server level or modify the stored procedure so that it executes under the credentials of the owner.

Upgrade R/3 4.7 110 from SQL 2000 to ECC 6.0 /SQL 2005
Dear Experts,
We are currently running R/3 4.7 110 with kernel 640 32 Bit Non Unicode on Windows Server 2000/ MS SQL 2000 Platform. We are planning to Upgrade the same to ECC 6.0 on Windows 2003/ SQL 2005 on New x64 Bit Hardware.
I was earlier planning to Upgrade the OS/DB in first Phase moving the same R/3 4.7 on Windows 2003 Server /MS SQL 2005 and then Upgrade it to ECC 6.0 in second phase. But to my surprise when I checked PAM, I found that R/3 4.7 110 is not at all supported on SQL 2005 ( though R/3 4.6 C is)
Now shall I upgrade it to ECC6.0 First with Windows 2003/SQL 2000 ( Because ECC6.0 is supported with MS SQL 2000)and then move to MS SQL 2005 ?
Thanks
Jitendra TayalWe had the same issue.
So I checked with SAP.
This was their reply.
'SAP R/3 4.7 Ext 110 is supported on SQL 2005. Please refer to the following notes for further information:'
Note 905634 - Release planning for Microsoft SQL Server 2005
Note 799058 - Setting Up Microsoft SQL Server 2005
Note 899111 - Installing R3 4.7SR1 (47X110) on x64 Windows Platform
Note 151603 - Copying an SQL Server database
So feel free to go ahead.
Thanks.

Upgrade windows 2000 t o windows 2005 and sql 2000 to sql 2005
Dear People,
i have not actually done any upgradestill now, i have task where i need to upgrade existing sap system. The sap has already been upgraded, now my task is to upgrade operating system and database
requirement:
windows 2000 to windows 2003
sql 2000 to sql 2005
the above should be done by the procedure recommended by sap only, so im wondering where i can find the information and tools for uprading both O/S and DB.
Help
RajI personally would not do a Windows upgrade, Windows can be very picky when it comes to 3rd party SCSI/FC drives you may experience bluescreens during the update after the second boot etc.
I would backup the system and install the operating system from scratch and do a system copy instead.
For your database upgrade, there's a guide at
http://service.sap.com/instguides

Urgent - steps need to done, when MS SQL upgraded from 2000 to 2005
SQL server is upgraded from MS SQL 2000 to MS SQL 2005.
Please let me know the steps ned to be performed at XI .hi satya kiran,
check the below blogs,
https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/c90ecf8d-0d01-0010-4aa3-e6fc4da46bb3
The process to perform the migration you describe is relatively easy. While note 799058 is relevant, you should first have a look at the System Copy Guide, which applies to your system. These guides can be found on SAP Service Marketplace:
Release & Upgrade Info Installation & Upgrade Guides SAP NetWeaver SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s)
Click on Installation, a new window opens. Check section Installation - SAP NetWeaver Systems
You will see links to system copy guides for Service Release1 and Service Release 2, and separate entries for ABAP only systems, Java only systems and double stacks.
For example: the SR2 guide for ABAPJava has the title: System Copy for SAP - Systems Based on SAP - NetWeaver 7.0 SR2 - ABAPJava
Each of this guides has a brief chapter on copying a MSSQL database. Please carefully read the guide and the SAP notes it refers to. The overall procedure for an ABAP only system will look like this:
1. Apply note 600027 (change SQL Server collation) to your existing SQL2000 database. You HAVE to perform this step before moving the database to the new hardware.
2. Prepare your new servers (Windows, SQL2005 installation following the SAP guidance on collation et cetera).
3. Detach the SQL2000 database from your old system, copy the datafiles to the new machine and attach the database to the new SQL2005 server.
4. Follow the system copy guide and run sapinst to install the SAP central instance and configure the database.
Copying the Java stack is a little bit complicated, because you have to create an export of your Java data on your old system first. This is explained in great detail in the system copy guide.

Sql 2000 Database upgrade to 2005
Hello,
Our active SAP system works on MS SQL Server 2000 Databases. Will
there be a trouble if we set up Solution Manager 4.0 directly on MS SQL
Server 2005 whose SQL servers versions are different? Can I learn your
suggestions?
Secondly, we are planning to upgrade SQL Server 2000 system to MS SQL
Server 2005 in 2 weeks. I would be glad if you could advise me any
document about this upgrading process.
Note: All systems are working Windows Server 2003 x64 platform.
Best regards

Remote portlet failing after upgrading to 6.5 and SQL Server to 2005
we are upgrading our environment from 6.1 mp1 to 6.5 in the process we upgraded our sql server from 2000 version to 2005.After the database upgrade all our remote custom portlet developed using API's to query the database to get user properties or documents name in KD is failing at the point where it try’s to make the call to the database.
We are getting following error on all the portlets result page “The underlying connection was closed: The server committed an HTTP protocol violation. “
For example for user search portlet its fails at this line
IPortalSearchRequest searchRequest = searchFactory.CreatePortalSearchRequest();
Any Ideas??

Edited by spinto at 06/11/2008 11:59 AMYou had 6.1 MP1 running on SQL 2000? If you pulled off that sql magic, this issue should be peanuts. ;-)
Seriously, though, when we went from 6.1 to 6.1 MP1, all of our apps using the native API's IPTSearchRequest broke. Notice I said 'IPT' not just 'I' - again, I'm talking about the native api, not the remote. Though come to think of it, the remote search api calls may have broken, too. That was the whole reason we put off the MP1 upgrade - it broke the search in all our tests. I don't think it was until the patch 1 for MP1 came out that we moved forward.
Enough of my yapping, our fix for the native api apps - those using IPTSearchRequest - was to simply recompile the apps using the MP1 assemblies. Whatever the handful of assemblies you may have referenced in your project to get the native api working, just change their ref path to the newer MP1 assemblies - or in your case the new 6.5 versions. That fixed us right up.
