Unknown Error (502) - Connection Problem

Every time I try to connect iTunes Music Store I get an unknown error (502) which says "make sure your network connection is active and try again". There is no problem with my connection and I have run the diagnostic sequence which confirms this. Any ideas??

Hi
We have been having the same problem since ugrading to the new version of iTunes version 7.0.2 - tried reinstalling as advised and still no luck... any ideas?

    Hello Matthew,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with the iTunes Store.  I recommend continuing with the steps in the following article:

  • Unknown error 502...

all my music got cleared, like many other people's lately...i contacted support and they said i could re-download my music for free, but my music won't download because of "unknown error 502"...
in an unrelated error, when i try to go to the discussions section of support on my firefox browser, i get constantly redirected to:
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?family=toprated2005& siteID=%2F%2ALLOAf3JJQ-xs3Afl8xifFBXN6EExM%2Fnw
which, obviously, i have no desire to be on- anyone know about this one either?

alright, it says now that 366 of the songs i have bought are now downloading on my comp- there are, however, a lot missing from the list- my purchase history and the library that is currently downloading don't match up...is it because the files can only go so many at a time and i will have to 'check for purchased music' again? or is it because there are just mistakes in what they sent me?

  • -3256 Error - Unknown error, cannot connect to remote speaker

I recently bought time capsule and have set that up as a base station. The input to time capsule is the linksys modem + router. I have disabled the linksys router capabilities and am only using that as a modem. When i connect airport express to the time capsule network, i get a error message stating -3256. Unknown error cannot connect to the remote speaker. Before time capsule, linksys network was able to play airtunes, but time capsule is not able to. I have disabled the firewall on both time capsule and linksys.

It might actually be the firewall on your mac rather than the other hardware. I mysteriously started getting this same error when trying to use the Multiple Speakers function with AirTunes (had worked perfectly for over a year). I modified the Security/Firewall settings in System Preferences and it started working again, no error: I simply added iTunes to the "specific services" firewall list to allow incoming connections. Of course the firewall is set up quite differently in 10.4.x.
You'd think that checking "look for remote speakers" in iTunes preferences would take care of this for you, or prompt you to make the changes yourself (I remember getting OS messages that used to say "if you want to do such-and-such, make sure you open port xxxx") but apparently not!
I also read somewhere that checking "share my library" in iTunes prefs can help with this sometimes, but I can't verify that - I already had it checked; it was the OS firewall tweak that worked for me.

  • Cannot connect to the Music Store.  Unknown error (502).

When I attempt to access the iTunes Music Store I get the following message:
"iTunes could not connect to the Music Store. An unknown error occurred (502).
Make sure your network connection is active and try again."
    Well...
    (1) My network connection is active
    (2) I have "tried again"
    (3) I have updated my iTunes software
    (4) I have reinstalled the updated software
    (5) I have run msconfig and tweaked my settings
    (6) I e-mailed Apple support and got a return e-mail that explained the my problem had been fixed
    (7) The problem has not been fixed.
If anyone has any help it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I am having the same problem. I tried re-installing the software. I did find this on the website under support:
If you upgraded to Windows XP Service Pack 2:
Windows XP Service Pack 2, by default, enables the Windows Firewall. As with a third-party firewall, you will need to configure Windows Firewall to allow iTunes to access the Music Store. Read this document for more information. If you have further questions about configuring the Windows Firewall, contact Microsoft's Service Pack 2 hotline at (888) SP2-HELP.
I'm going to call them to see if they have a solution.

  • Keep getting unknown error when connecting iPod?

Each time I try connecting my iPod in I get an error message in iTunes. It does the same thing when I connect my iPhone in too.
The iTunes version is the one before 9.2 came out.
I get an error saying "iTunes could not connect to this iPod because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000001)."
Please help I'm not sure what's wrong and can't find anything on this issue! D:

well last I tried it did but I'm not using it now because it's at geek squad for repair so that's why I'm using the mac. I've always had this problem with this mac but never addressed it since I used my pc in the past. I think the problem may be is the mac needs updating. It's a G3 but I'm planning on taking it in and having it updated to the newest os/processor, all that good stuff.
But I just switched usb cables and that seemed to work for the time being. Thankfully

  • Dreaded "An unknown error occurred (-124)" problem

I've seen various posts on this and related topic, and have tried a few of the suggested solutions without success, so thought I'd post my version to see if anyone can suggest a way to fix this.
I have a 30GB video iPod that is about 2 years old. Up until recently, it was working fine. About a week ago I tried to sync it up with iTunes as I had some new music and it all went pear shaped.
Basically, it takes a few minutes to recognise that my iPod is connected, during which time I hear a few random "clicks" from the iPod (sounds very much like the noise the click wheel makes). On attempting to sync, it will get a few songs (usually somewhere between 5-20) before bombing out with the following error message:
"The iPod "[ipod name]" cannot be synced. The required folder cannot be found"
I hit OK to this, and then shortly after I get the following message:
"Attempting to copy to the disc "[ipod name]" failed. An unknown error occurred (-124)"
At this point, the iPod resets itself (as if I had done a manual reset) and then will eventually come back to the main menu. iTunes then attempts to sync again, with a similar result. I've only ever let this happen about 3 times before disconnecting and trying various things (resetting iPod, turning PC off and on, using different USB port, charging iPod from my wall charger for an hour, etc, etc)
I can run the iPod in diagnostic mode without any problems. I have also reformatted my iPod, as well as downloaded V1.3 of iPod software and am running V7.5.0.20 of iTunes.
Some of the other posts on here seem to indicate this problem only occurs when syncing videos or photos, but I have neither - I'm just trying to sync my music.
To make it even more frustrating is that after doing all the things I can think of, at some seemingly random point my iPod will decide its had enough of ******* me off and will happily sync without incident. But this normally takes an hour of fruitless effort and increasing levels of frustration!! Oh, and yes - I have tried to be a bit systematic with my "try this, then try that" to see if I can stumble across the right sequence of events, but there doesn't appear to be anything that works consistently!!
Is it just me, or is Apple becoming more and more like Microsoft when it comes to product reliability???

As an update to this, I have just installed the latest version of iTunes (7.7), so I'm running all the latest iPod and iTunes versions...
...but I'm still having the same problem
Can anyone provide any insight into how to fix this???

  • Unknown error on connect

I have an iPod touch which connects to my Macbook Pro just fine. It does not connect to my older desktop and just gives an unknown error.
Desktop is PowerMac G4 model 3,3 (Gigabit ethernet) with a "High-speed USB bus" in an expansion slot, max speed of "Up to 480Mb/sec" in System Profiler, made by Apple. OS is 10.4.11. This meets all the published requirements ( http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1323 ).
Error: iPod Touch beeps on connect. iTunes reports "...could not connect because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000001)."
    Console says:
Could not send message size 4507: Broken pipe
MobleDevice: AMDevicePari: Could not pair with the device: kAMDundefinedError
Those lines are repeated a few times with different message sizes.
I've been through the simple steps (restarting the iPod, restarting the computer, had just downloaded the newest iTunes 8.0).
Sure it's old and slow, but the desktop computer also has a second drive and my music library. Still syncs with my old iPod (via firewire).

Here I am replying to myself. I did do a search on the error code and such, but did not find that other's had posted similar problems until after I posted my lament.

but I could not find a file or folder called LOCKDOWN anywhere, so still pondering.

  • Webex Connect "An unknown error ocurred connecting the server" Error Message

    Hi,
We have the latest Cisco Webex Connect Clients (7.1.1 Build 16597) in use in our company. With no obvious reason one of our employees now can't connect to Webex Connect getting the Error Message "An unknown error ocurred while connecting to the server." We tried to close and re open the client and to re-enter the password, both with no succes. Using another Jabber/XMPP capable IM Client works but not using Cisco Webex Connect.
    Can anyone help?
    Cheers,
    Patrick

You may face this issue if your IE is working in offline mode.
    To resolve:
Try going to google.com on internet explorer.
    Click on connect when prompted.
Once google.com opens fine then try logging in to the WebEx Connect again.
    It should work now.

  • Unknown error code 13014 problem, this is the first time I've ever seen it.

After I upgraded my PC, I copied old libraries and music files from the old hard drive to the new one. I installed the newest version of iTunes (8.0.2) and when I plugged in my ipod, I saw something I had never seen. Guess what it is?
    'Unknown error code 13014!'
I had no problems for using every function that my iPod touch and iTunes have (including Genius play list) and of course, I've been updating every version of firmwares and iTunes programs. After I googled about this incident, I figured out this problem should not be seen on the newest version of iTunes but I'm still surffering from it.
Temporally, I turned off Genius Play List and now, that error code doesn't pop up but of course, I can not use Genius Play list because of it.
I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, restored firmware, moved Library Extras & Genius.itdb and do them again and again. Of course, none of them worked.
What can I do? Is there anyone else who is experiencing same thing to me? How can I get my Genius Play List function back?
Please Help me. I'm desperate. :<

Did you properly prep your new drive first?
    Drive Preparation
    1.  Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.  If you need to reformat your startup volume, then you must boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.
When formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Complete the OS X installation.
I think you should shutdown the installer then erase the drive per the above and start again.

  • 6500slide error in connection problem

guys, i keep having this problem occasionally when i try making calls out using my mobile.
Then the screen will shows error in connection after trying to make calls out.
When people trying to reach me, they can't as it will be said that the M1 suscriber is not avaliable at the moment, pls try again later.
This problem only occurs when i'm at home. When i'm outside, its working perfectly fine.
I'm a M1 user and the phone is bought from a singtel shop.
Can anyone give me some advice or help ?

Once you disable it you will no longer be able to make or receive video calls and you data speed may be slower.
I've had the same problem myself for years. I get a very weak 3G signal at home and work and this causes the phone to constantly search for the network which results in these errors.
Until the network boosts it's 3G signal in my area i am stuck with this problem. When I visit a larger city and need to use data I switch 3G back on.
So unfotunately there is nothing that can be done about it until your network has a better transmitter in your area.
On the plus side you should notice an increase in battery life.

  • Photoshop CC & InDesign CC deployment error 1603 (connection problem)

    Hi,
I'm a member of the packaging team and I prepare packages with Photoshop CC and InDesign CC for the client.
I have a question. During installation I get an MSI error 1603. I checked that the installer is trying to connect to the Internet.
If the client's environment have full access to the Internet or a network card is switched off then installation runs properly.
If the user has limited access to the internet via GPO then MSI installation shows the 1603 error associated with Custom Action "CADeploy".
Is there any solution to this problem ?

I am a Windows user and don't know the process with a Mac OS, but whatever process you use for other programs is the way to go.
After uninstalling, you should use the Cleaning tool.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html
Restart your computer, and open the CC Desktop App Mgr.  If it thinks Photoshop is still installed, sign out and back in again.
    Then reinstall Photoshop.
    Good luck.

  • Unknown Error when connecting to AirPort Express

I am still mystified by I-tunes not playing through my AirPort Express since I got the new I-phone 5.  As I said in my last post, music on my I-phone plays fine through AirPort as did my I-pad (before I took it back to exchange for an I-pad mini, which I don't have yet).  I've tried all the simple fixes, like powering off the computer and switching the I-phone speaker selection from AirPort before I try to play from the computer through AirPort (and no, I am not trying to play both of them at the same time.)  Plus, now it's sporadic - sometimes computer through AirPort works and sometimes it doesn't and I can't identify what is different.  No one answered my last post, so I'm wondering if this question is just stupid and the answer obvious (to most) or if it's just one of those computer mysteries that has no answer?

Thanks for reply.  Yes, I have a computer with iTunes, an iPhone, and an iPad.  The Airport Express is set up to allow iTunes to play through my stereo speakers from any of those devices.  The problem is, that sometimes, for no apparent reason, my computer will not connect with the Airport Express.  It appears to be random: sometimes from iTunes on the computer, I can choose the speakers connected via the Airport and sometimes I cannot.  This does NOT happen on the iPhone or iPad.  I can always successfully choose the device speakers or the stereo speakers from those devices.  It's just hit or miss with the computer.
