Unlink Firefox Sync Devices

Have re-install y desktop and forgot unlink Firefox Sync first, now I have 2 "Firefox at Home" entries in the device list. Is there any way to unlink the unused one?

Hi cyborgcygnus,
In Sync Options, what is the selected option?
<blockquote>
"you can choose how your data is synchronized when you create your Sync account and whenever you add a device. When you set up Firefox Sync, click the Sync Options button at the bottom-left corner of the setup window to select one of these options:
*Merge this computer's data with my Sync data (default; recommended)
*Replace all data on this computer with my Sync data
*Replace all other devices with this computer's data

Also when I synced by mobile and second VM to the sync profile, there where two folders: Desktop Bookmarks and Mobile Bookmarks. Is there a folder where the bookmarks from one device are there and the other are not?
Since the changes are not being shared, it is possible to try to pair the new device or the Ubuntu instance again and to start from the new device first. Did you already try this? [[Where can I find the code to add a device to Firefox Sync?]]
If it continues to give trouble:

  • Some bookmarks missing on mobile device after firefox sync

I have Firefox 12 installed on my iMac, running Mac OSX 10.6.8. I've successfully setup my Firefox sync and linked both my iPad 3rd gen, and my iPhone 4S running iOS 5.1.1. Besides the sync process taking forever, I also noticed that a few bookmarks are missing on my devices. I've tried re-syncing, and unlinking the devices and relinking them, and I even deleted, recreated and resynced my account but the problem persists. Happens to be the same bookmarks missing on both devices. What do you advise?

Consider switching to a cloud-based bookmarking platform where there's no need to backup, sync or import your bookmarks because they are automatically backed up and inherently synched, and all your bookmarks are always available using any browser from any computer, mobile phone or tablet. My company operates http://iCrumz.com, a free cloud-based Internet bookmarking service. The iCrumz interface allows you to have 100 or more bookmarks on a single webpage without being cluttered. iCrumz also offers an import function, so you can import and consolidate all your bookmarks from all your browsers on all your devices. • Is there a way to remotely remove an Android device from Firefox sync?

I don't currently have access to my Android device that has the Firefox app with Firefox Sync linked to my desktop browser. Is there a way to remotely unlink the Android app?

No, you will have to change the password of your sync account and re-add all other devices.

When using Firefox Sync on multiple devices, I used to be able to 'send' a tab from one computer to another. Is this still possible? If so, how?
I don't mean the ability to see what tabs are open on another device (I know how to do this). But if I am at work and find something that I want to read at home, it would be helpful to 'send' the tab to my home PC so that when I return home, it will automatically open that tab for me.

    Can anyone help?

  • Firefox Sync places "Tabs" from other devices all on a single page.

Before late yesterday and today, I had never used Firefox Sync. I did eventually find the results under the History menu, under "Tabs from other Devices". The system was not well explained. I searched the internet, and did not find any explanation of where to find the results. All of the "Tabs" were on one page, vertically listed from top to bottom. They were not in the order I had them in my browser windows, but appeared to be in somewhat of a random, haphazard order. Before Firefox crashed yesterday, I probably had 300 - 400 tabs open in the two windows. There is no way the current Sync system will be of any value to me. I have had crashes, for about the last year or so, because my Windows XP computer only has 1.5 Gb of memory, which is still more than a lot of XP computers had. An acquaintance has a Windows Vista computer with 2 Gb memory, and also experiences crashes. I recently purchased a Windows 7 64 bit computer with a lot of memory. I moved by bookmarks over ( for Firefox), and even got Netscape 4.8 running, even though it has a 16 bit installer, that will not run by itself on a 64 bit system, but there seems to be no easy way to transfer the contents of my Firefox tabs over. I considered using MozBackup, to transfer the tabs, but the author said he did not think that was a good idea.

I have most of the items bookmarked. Having 200 - 300 tabs open saves time, since I don't have to go to the bookmarks, if the tabs are already open. One problem has been crashes, but as long as I can restore a previous session, I can still get to the data. I had quite a few tabs open when I was planning to purchase a new computer. I also follow the stock market, and the weather. I was also looking at various VIrtual Private Networking (VPN) sites. At one time, I probably had 20 - 50 tabs open, just for those. I did bookmark a few, but unfortunately lost the VPN tabs, when Firefox crashed. Even if I don`t go to a particular group of tabs very often, leaving it open is faster, especially since I will know where they are. I often put the computer in standby mode, rather than shutting it off, especially if I will remain in the same location.

  • Cannot configure firefox sync and do not have add a device option

I am very frustrated. I have spent a lot of time over the past two days trying to figure out how to ocnfigure Firefox sync. I am specifically trying to sync my iphone to my account. I have downloaded two apps from the Apple App store, both of which are designed to allow me to do so. When I open both of these apps they provide me with a pass code that is broken up into three sections each containing 4 letter and or number combinations, just as I see in all the articles designed to assist me with this issue. However, I open my sync dashboard and do not see ANY tab that states "Add a Device" as the articles also say. So I click on the "I am not near my computer" tab in the apps (both appear to work identically) and I am asked to enter my account, password, and sync key info. I cannot find an article anywhere that tells me what my sync key is or how to recover it if I have forgotten it~!!!@!!!!!!!! Please freaking help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apps in the Apple App Store are not from Mozilla and possibly no longer work with Firefox as Firefox has now moved from Sync to Firefox Accounts. Mozilla does not have any apps out there in the Apple app store however, 3rd parties may but they're not vetted by Mozilla.

  • Re: "How do I add a device to Firefox Sync?" There is no link for add new device.

The code for the new device is some 21 alpha numeric characters long. Only a few of the characters fit in the three boxes -- they do not all fit.

The sync key is 26 characters and needs to be entered on the account page (I don't have the device), but if you have the code supplied by another device then you only have a code of 12 characters.

  • Firefox Sync Server not returning synchronized info from a new device

I believe that if I already have a Firefox Sync account I should be able to access the data/information for Sync server across different devices even if they are not connected on the Internet at the same time.
Each and every time I add a new machine, it does not return the data/information that I have synchronized on other machine e.g. after changing laptop I expect my data to be safe on your sever and I should access it via my account.
If it does not work that way, why are you then making empty promises about Firefox Sync?

I tried the suggestions at the links above but they did not work. Every time I sync, all addons are uninstalled. I have to back and undo the uninstall on all of them to keep them.

  • Firefox sync not syncing data between device

Although Firefox sync syncing, data does not advice.

It worked!! Thank you so much! Now, may I ask what happened? I feel like if this sort of thing happens again in the future I will have a better understanding of exactly what '''services.sync.clusterURL''' is and why resetting it resolves syncing issues. FYI I deleted some empty folders that were created when this whole issue started and forced an immediate sync and the problem device was no longer a problem. I performed this action on my laptop i.e. the problem device and on my desktop PC so I could thoroughly test the two-way communication and after syncing on either device the changes were reflected on the other.

  • Cannot add a device to Firefox Sync using passcode.

I am running Firefox/3.6.15 on a MacBook Pro, Mac OS 10.6.6. Each time I click Add a device in the Sync Preferences window, I am taken to the How do I add a device to Firefox Sync web page. It does not display the window where I can enter a passcode as shown in the online manual. Please help me figure out what the problem is. Thanks!

Hi, the new 'passcode'-based easy setup process is only supported in Firefox 4. To add a device in Firefox 3.6, please follow the [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How%20to%20sync%20Firefox%20settings%20between%20computers instructions for adding a device without easy setup].

  • Firefox sync has no pair a device option, so how do I add a device?

    This is just like https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/993253?esab=a&as=aaq
But the solution that person chose didn't work for me.
    1. Here's a picture of my sync options:
    http://i61.tinypic.com/qqtovo.png
    2. Proof my Firefox is already up to date:
    http://i58.tinypic.com/2432ge1.png
    3. Proof I'm already registered for the current version of sync (or that it's not clear how to do so):
    http://i60.tinypic.com/293ufkk.png
    4. I looked at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Identity/Firefox-Accounts, but it didn't solve my problem.
    What can I do?

The currently used new Sync version uses the email address and a password to connect to a specific Sync account and no longer allows to pair a device.
You also no longer need to supply a Sync key as that key is transparently derived from the password of the account, so changing the Sync password will invalidate data stored on the server.
    *https://wiki.mozilla.org/Identity/Firefox-Accounts
If you still use an old Sync account on some devices then it is not possible to connect to the old account with the current release or add a new account via pairing, but you can still connect by supplying the name and password and sync key if you have an older Firefox version.
All connected devices need to run a current Firefox release that supports the new Sync version.

  • Cannot generate a Key. Manage Account menu doesn't show up even after following Help articles. Correct username, e-mail and password. I already have a Firefox Sync Account but cannot Add a Device. No way to Sync due to no Key.

I cannot generate a Key to Sync between two computers. Manage Account menu doesn't show under Options > Sync > Firefox Sync Setup > I already have a Firefox Sync Account > I don't have the Device with me. No Sync Key no matter how hard I tried.

Yes I did. '''''I solved this issue last night.''''' First I had to Clear My Sync Data, then Yes I Already Have a Sync Account [enter User, Password] and only then the Key appeared in its proper field. Went to the 2nd computer and wrote down the Key after I Already Have a Sync Account. The bottleneck was to enter into Mozilla server after resetting pass and user, and then, clear data.

  • Firefox Sync Reset, not syncing and deleting all addons from every device

I started to notice that some of my addons were being uninstalled randomly so I decided to unlink my three devices, make sure one was a master, set up sync and then sync the other devices. However, something happened and now my quota for addons is 6.0 KB, that doesn't seem like much for addons and when I sync on any other device, replacing the data on that computer with the sync data, all addons get unistalled. I tried changing the recovery key, deleted the account and created a new account with the same email address. I am at a loss. Ideas?

I tried the suggestions at the links above but they did not work. Every time I sync, all addons are uninstalled. I have to back and undo the uninstall on all of them to keep them.

  • I have downloaded the Firefox Sync add on but when I select "add a device" it launces a help page which tells me to click "add a device" - endless circle!

I have downloaded the Firefox Sync add on but when I select "add a device" it launces a help page which tells me to click "add a device" which is an endless circle!
    Any advice appreciated

Sorry about that. The help pages have been updated for the new "Add a device" process in Firefox 4, but the add-on for Firefox 3.6 is still using an older, different process.
You can download the Firefox 4 release candidate here and use the new "easy setup" process described in the help pages: http://firefox.com/rc
Or if you prefer to stick with Firefox 3.6, then instead of clicking "Add a device" on your computer, press the "Connect" button on your phone or other device, then click on "I am not near my computer..." and enter your email address, password, and sync key. (If you don't know your sync key, see [[Where can I find my Firefox Sync Key?]])

  • I can't sign into Firefox Sync on my Android phone, but I can sign in on the computer. On the mobile device it says that the password/user name is wrong.

I am unable to sign into Firefox Sync on my Samsung Galaxy S4, using the exact same password and user name that I successfully sign in on the desktop computer. On the mobile device, I get a message stating that either the user name or password is incorrect. I want to be able to sync Firefox on the computer with Firefox on the phone, especially for the bookmarks, but I'm unable to do so even following the directions in the How-To video.

    Hi pitbulllady
I would suggest a) resetting the password on desktop https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/ive-lost-my-firefox-sync-account-information#w_iaove-forgotten-my-sync-password-ae-how-do-i-reset-it_2 and then b) trying again on your Android phone or tablet
If the above doesn't help and since we can't read minds :-) we need more troubleshooting details to help you:
