Unrendering of clips -

after rendering a clip in premiere pro cs 5.5, the clip will unrender if I click on it in the timeline.  Has anyone else experienced this?

I know, I know - wanting to get connected to the cloud, but that's another story.  I appreciate you taking the time to reply.  I will tell you that it has happened to me on two different computers now.  My HP Pavilion laptop, and now my HP Envy.  Cleaning the cache was suggested by the folks at Premiere at one time, and that doesn't seem to help.  Render files seem up to date, which leaves the graphics card update, but doesn't seem to explain the problem occurring on two different devices?  However, as mentioned, I do hope to upgrade significantly and I'm hopeful that will eliminate this totally annoying time waster.

  • Motion Project clip in FCP clip does not export

    Dear All,
I edited one clip from FCP 06 sequence with Motion Project and replaced the original clip with the motion project version. I did frame blending effect on the original FCP clip, which had 25% slow motion applied (constant) through FCP. After the clip was replaced with the new one, I exported the whole sequence from FCP to a couple of formats through Compressor (a custom DVD and a custom H.264 formats), the fragment where the Motion Project clip supposed to be did not show the effect of the frame blending. However it shows fince on the timeline in FCP.
    I will appreciate any suggestions,
    Izabela

    Hi Izabela,
Did you render the Motion effects in FCP prior to sending to Compressor? Are you using the 'Send to Compressor' (Not that that is wrong, it's just so I know your workflow)?
If it's just the Frame blending that is a problem for you just check your sequence settings in FCP. With the sequence window selected do Cmd-0(zero) to open the sequence settings. In the Render Control tab under Master Templates and Motion Projects, change the Quality to Best and tick the box underneath.
Now check to see if the Motion clip has become unrendered. If not, double click it and in the viewer goto the Motion tab and change the scale then back to it's original setting (just to unrender the clip). Now rerender the clip and retry your send to compressor.

  • 'not enough memory to import the requested file'

    Hey,
I have this message when i am trying to import a picture of hi res. Do you know what I need to do to free up said memory. First time Ive had this problem and I have 3 hard drives with fair space and 8gb ram which is not being fully used. The timeline has an unedited/cut/spliced unrendered 3minute clip on it.
    Thanks,

  • Avoiding preview stuttering problems

I am creating a new post here as I marked the last one I posted on this subject as answered.
In that post I asked would a new graphics card help to eliminate the severe stuttering caused by my windows xp machine (2 intel P4 processors 3.2) failing to decompress the MP4 files from my Sony NEX-5 quickly enough? The answer was an unequivocal NO as it was the processors, not the card.
Since then I have been doing some experimentation:
I downloaded trial versions of Cyberlink Power Director and Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10. The latter stuttered worse than PE but the Cyberlink app had almost faultless previews - no stuttering. Unfortunately it is a pretty horrible programme otherwise, and any case I am used to Premiere having use an early version of PP for years, so I experimented some more:
In PE I created a project with a project setting of PAL-AVCHD-HD 1081i25, loaded some MP4 clips taken with theNEX 5 on the MP4 1440 x 1080 setting and then burnt the project to DVD.
I then saved the movie as an AVI, removed the original MP4 clips and imported the AVI file I had just made. The project asked me if I wanted to change the project settings to match the clip and and I said yes. I then burned this to a DVD.
I then deleted the AVI clip and imported the original MP4 clips (into what is now effectively a PAL-DV-Widescreen 48KHz project setting I imagine). This time I was not asked if I wanted to change the settings but a red line appeared above the clips indicating they needed rendering. I rendered them and  - voila! No stuttering - perfectly smooth preview of the MP4 clips. I then burned this to DVD.
Next I compared the DVDs on a Sony 42inch HD TV. No difference! All three of very good quality, at least to my eyes..
So what is happening here? When I rendered the clips in the PAL DV project was it turning them into  AVI files because of the project settings? And is it that the first DVD (with the MP4 clips straight from the camera), which I would have expected to be of better quality than the other two, was not actually producing a HD DVD inspite of the camera and project setting?
Is the only way I am going to get true HD to set the camera to AVCHD and burn to Blu-Ray?
If any one has knowledge of these things I would love to hear from you as while I seem to have found an answer to the stuttering I would love to know what is going on and if I am fooling myself. Many thanks.

    Thanks for the reply.
I have not explained myself very well.
There is no problem with the DVDs - whatever settings I use to edit, the DVDs play very well, smooth and reasonably high quality in my estimation..
And as far as I know there is no interlacing going on as I am not using the camera's highest avchd setting (which is interlaced), only the 1440x1080 MP4.
The problem is with the editing previews, which when I open an HD project and import my MP4 camera files is very jerky to the point of being almost unusable at times, with long waits during operations. A look in Window Task Manager shows both CPUs maxing out all the time. According to the reply I had from an earlier post, this is because my CPUs are not up to the job of decompressing the MP4 files on the fly.
What I have found is that if I import my MP4 files into a project with DV settings, I get a red line above the timeline. If I then render the clips, the editing improves dramatically - no stuttering at all and no long waits after mouse clicks or key presses and the CPUs only working at about 50%. Of course it can take a while to render a number of clips, but I can go and do something else while that is happening and when I return the editing goes like clockwork.
My question is - what is happening to the quality of the video? I cannot see any difference in output (DVDs) whatever project settings I use, they all seem equally good. So hopefully I have found an answer to the preview stuttering problem. But I suspect I am not getting real HD from any of them. To do this I imagine I need to set the camera to AVCHD rather than 1440x1080 MP4 and burn to Blu-ray. This I have not tried yet as I do not have a Blu-Ray burner.
My problem is my ignorance of what PE is doing to the MP4 files when it renders them. And why, if I set the project settings to HD 1080i25 instead of PAL DV and work directly on the unrendered MP4 clips (and put up with the stuttering) do I not see a visible increase in quality when I burn the DVD? Is there some sort of levelling going on during the DVD coding?

  • Photo Settings Grayed Out

I am creating about a 20 minute photo slide show with music. Suddenly, in the middle of working on the project, the "Show Photo Settings" button has grayed out for all but those photos that have the Ken Burns effect. The only way I can get it back is to delete the photo and reimport a new photo. That could get tedious with 200 photos. Is there any other way to fix this?

Yes, I think you've nailed it. When we send an iMovie project to iDVD, iMovie will offer to render any UNrendered photo clips. That includes photos imported with the Ken Burns checkbox OFF. (Those imported with the Ken Burns checkbox ON are rendered by Ken Burns, so iMovie won't ask to render them again.)
After iMovie renders them on their way to iDVD, those clips are no longer editable with the Photo Settings window. So that would explain the behavior you see.
There's another problem. There's a bug in iMovie that renders the photos with very poor quality when rendering it for iDVD. Photos acquire the "jaggies". Photos with certain kinds of content — straight lines, lap siding on buildings, roof lines, power lines — can look pretty terrible.
Once those photos have been damaged, the only way to repair them is to re-import the photos.
The jaggies can be avoided by doing any ONE of the following:
    1. When iMovie asks permission to render the images for iDVD, do NOT grant permission. Then iDVD will render the photos.
    2. Turn the Ken Burns checkbox ON when importing the image. Then Ken Burns will render them and iMovie won't ask later. (Note that Ken Burns can be set to have no zoom or pan. It looks like a still image, but it has been rendered into a clip.
    3. Instead of Sharing the project with iDVD, use iDVD to import the iMovie project to the iDVD project. (Dragging the iMovie project into the iDVD project window is one way to import it.)

  • Lost text when exported text to another computer

    Hello everyone,
The new FCPX is great whith the libraries and all, but I still loose my text everytime I use another computer with the FCPX projects and files on my hard drive… Everything goes with it BUT the text (subtitles or titles made in FCP not Motion)…
    Anyone knows why ?
    Txs
    Mathias

Last spring I was involved in an unusually complicated project that built upon a FCP 7 TL, and pulled in a smorgasbord of file formats and effects from various third party apps. The project was cut on two systems, using the same version of X (although different OS versions), referencing media on shared storage,  Each time the FCP X work was switched from one system to other, we lost our lower thirds. At the time, I didn't try to diagnose the issue because of time constraints. So they were updated when the movie was finished,
I had assumed that the cause was unrendered title clips (rendering would have really slowed things)…hence my advice, which apparently is bogus. (BTW, I did test before I posted that advice – rendering lower third to see whether they traveled and they did.) Another thing to mention…all of our lower thirds were custom-made in Motion; but apparently that isn't the cause of your issue either.
Hopefully someone here will come up with some better theories…or perhaps a bug that pops up under certain circumstances.

  • Clips always unrendered and offline when project is loaded

Having a weird problem at the moment that seems to make no sense at all, so any help would be vastly appriciated. Currently have a project where everytime it is loaded up all the footage with effects on, or with titles, says media offline, despite the clips still being avaible and accesible within the program. However, when any variable is clicked in the Effect Control panal on a clip, for example the clip's Scale, the clip comes back, but unrendered. When I say click on any of the variables I don't mean change any of them, just the simple act of clicking on the number 100 next to Scale brings the clip back. Bizzarre to say the least! Obviously this is starting to get very annoying, as the act of clicking on every clip's Scale and rendering before any new work can be done on the project is getting very tiresome...
    Any help?

Are you perhaps experiencing this issue?: FAQ:Why are my clips showing as "Media Offline"?
    Cheers

  • Clips appear as UNRENDERED on playback

I am a completely new user of Final Cut Pro. Just working through the tutorial, but when I hit the space bar to playback the clips do not appear and the word unrendered fills the screen. If I scrub over the ruler on the playback head the clips play normally. I'm using the video clips provided with the tutorial so would assume they were ready to use??? Any help appreciated! Thanks.

    Welcome to the forum
to render your footage go to Sequence\render all\ both
but really, you should not have to render your footage if your sequence settings match your clip setting

  • Newbie - confused about clips and "Unrendered"

Hello - Sorry for the newbie-ness. Just got FCE, watched the tutorials... Imported a .mov file, have edited the clip a bit and I have two clips in the timeline using "superimpose" for the second one, so that I could view both happening simultaneously. But when I try to play them back to view them I'm not seeing them, though I hear the audio of both clips.AND, when I press play the far right window says "unrendered," but when I pause I see the clip in the far right window. So, what am I doing wrong? Thank you very much.
    Nick

Nothing. Superimpose puts one clip on top of the other. It does not adjust the transparency or alter the clip in any way to see the underlying image. If you want to do that you can do it by opening the clip from the timeline into the viewer and in the motion tab adjusting opacity, scale, crop, whatever.
The material is unrendered because it probably does not match the sequence settings. Check item properties for both the sequence and the clips and make sure they match in every respect.

  • Rendered Clips Become Unrendered

I have been getting a lot of "Out of Memory" errors in FCP lately... Mainly with one particular project. I have the latest version installed, by the way.
My entire timeline (all footage in ProRes 444 LT) will render out--all but one clip. When I try to render it, I get the error. I will close other sequences and other applications. Sometimes this will fix the problem, sometimes not.
However, the crazy thing is that FCP has also started discarding my rendered files. It will happen when I load my project, having previously rendered all the clips. It wil also happen after rendering... I will render one clip, and after the process is complete, 10 other rendered clips will become unrendered.
Any ideas why this could be happening?

Perhaps because you are editing in a non-existant format? There is no ProRes 444 LT. There is ProRes4444 and there is ProRes 422 LT    My guess you are working in ProRes422 LT (more commonly designated as ProResLT around here)
Remove the proplematic clip from the project. It is likely corrupted. Does the program work as expected now? If yes and you need that material in the story, recapture/ reimport it from your backup. If you don't have a backup version, recut the project without it.
If the program is still misbehaving, shut down FCP and delete the FCP Preference files. (Digital Rebellion has a nifty little app -  FCS REMOVER - that will do this for you)
After you delete the pref files, the next time you start the program you will need to set things like the scratch disk locations.
Does FCP work as advertised now?

  • Send Clip To Motion, becomes Unrendered Footage

I sent my clip to Motion now in my FCP project the footage has become unrendered I have quit and restarted FCP and no luck, anyone know what the problem could be?

If you want to continue with that method you should...
use more that one video track, alternate each clip in an AB fashion, drag out the handles, then send.
btw. so sorry for your second place finish

  • When I place a clip in the timeline and try to watch it, the viewer says "Unrendered" and it will not show the clip

When I place a clip in the timeline and try to watch it, the viewer says "Unrendered" and it will not show the clip. What do I need to do to fix this?

Option 1: Render the clip in FCE then watch it.
Option 2 (preferred): Convert the clip so it will match your Sequence settings in FCE prior to importing the clip into your project.  It will not need rendering if converted properly.

  • "General Error" when exporting unrendered clip?

I have .mov clips in my project that already have an alpha channel in them (format is Animation millions of colors +).
They're on the timeline in a sequence, with a single transition between them.
I want to export back to Animation Millions of Colors + in order to keep the alpha channel (this is for Flash video conversion).
The composite mode for the clips are set to normal, with straight alpha. I can see that the alpha is intact on the clips in the timline by temporarily placing an image on a layer under them.
I understand that you have to export without rendering in order to preserve the alpha channel.
However, when I try to export to ANY codec without rendering, I get a dialog that says only "General Error." Rendering will allow export, but of course the alpha channel is gone now.
I'm running System 10.4.10 with the QuickTime 7.3 upgrade installed, FCE 3.5.1. Did QT 7.3 break something?
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve

    Tom,
Thanks for your reply. The problem isn't that I didn't use the right codec (I did, as I said in my original post). The problem is that I am not able to export an undrendered clip using any codec. All I get is the "General Error" message.
Thus no transparency in the exported file.
Also to clarify, I am not keying the source files to create transparency in FCE. The source files already have an alpha channel in them.
I have downgraded to QuickTime 7.2, so 7.3 was not the culprit. I have also run the usual system cleanup utilities like AppleJack, etc.
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • Unrendered Audio - sequence and clip settings are the same

When I drag a clip to the timeline a redline appears on the top of the timeline. I know this means that there is a setting issue between the sequence and the clips. All the settings are the same with the exception of the:
audio format - Clip: 8 bit integer
    Seq: 32 Bit Floating
    Audio Rate - Clip: 48000 5kh
    Seq: 48.0 KH
The clips which is 1 1/2 HR takes 6 minutes to render.
Does anyone know why I need to render this clip?
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Here: a foolproof way to ensure clip-sequence settings match up:

  • Unrendered sequence with H.264 clips from Xacti HD1000

    Hi,
I've got a Sanyo Xacti HD1000 camcorder, which records directly to H.264 (not AVCHD). Final Cut Express imports these clips okay but won't ever let me play a sequence without rendering it.
I realise I need the sequence properties to match the clip properties but at the moment I'm shooting 60fps 720p clips and can't see any way to get the sequence properties to match (none of the presets do).
Is there any way around this, or do I need to ditch either the HD1000 or FCE? It's not practical to have to render the sequence just to check my edits.
    Cheers,
    -Tom

Thanks for the clarification. I have just purchased the HD 1000. Love the size etc. But is there any way of down loading recording from the SD card to IMovie fast, given there is no fire wire on the camera? I am finding it terribly slow and I should have looked at the camera more closely and noticed it has no fire wire capacity. Am I missing something really obvious. I beleive you can get a wirewire SD card reader. Cheers.
