Unstable Cisco Aironet 1231

I have one Cisco Aironet 1231 access point. It does not use any kind of (server) functionality outside the Cisco device.
I have one SSID and uses WPA-PSK (TKIP).
The configuration seams wary straight forward, but something is wrong.
The access point seams to be unstable. The clients use long time to connect to the access point and it looses connection a lot of times a day. Can I do something to speed up the ?negotiation process? ?
What could be the course of instability?
The configuration was made with the ?web configurator?, but I have a SSH/telnet dump:
Best Regards

A "stronger" (more gain) antenna probably won't help. An antenna that transmits with more gain also receives with more gain ..(basically, the same situation, but all of the signals are "louder")
The general remedy, aside from the obvious of going to the least populated channel or moving to the 802.11a band, is usually to add more access points, all using some flavor of "sector" antenna (and / or "patch" antennas) to localize the area of interest.
Because the antennas are covering a more specific area (and usually smaller area), it is usually the case that more APs are needed.
"Seeing" 20 APs is not that alarming ... check the signal strength of each, many will usually be well-below the level that would cause serious interference. The specific level will vary, depending on the location relative to the AP<->client relationship.
If you're seeing 20 APs, and their signal strength is roughly the same as your APs or a little lower, then you've got a problem that only a sectorized antenna system can cure.
Good Luck

I am having the same problem with my MacBookPro. Currently, I have supplied data to Apple's engineers from my machine as this is a known problem with MacBookPro's. AluminumG4 notebooks have no trouble authenticating; therefore, this may be a problem with the Atheros chipset. I am hopeful that the next version update will fix the problem, but don't have any information from Apple to support that optimism.
    Good luck,

  • Rate-limit for some MAC on aironet 1231

    Hello!
I need to set rate-limit for some mac addresses on access point aironet 1231.Is it possible?
If no, what ios or devices can do it?
    Thanks.

No there is no option for rate-limit in Aironet but in controller, Rate-limiting is applicable to all traffic destined to the CPU from either direction (wireless or wired). Cisco recommends that you always run the controller with the default config advanced rate enable command in effect in order to rate-limit traffic to the controller and protect against denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. You can use the config advanced rate disable command to stop rate-limiting of Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) echo responses for testing purposes.

  • Aironet 1231

The information is not clear to me. We have a couple of Cisco Wireless access point that we just bought. After running an EoS/EoL report using CiscoWorks, they show up on the list like "Cisco Aironet 1210 Access Point" as a device that has announce End of Sales. Why?? I thought we bought 1231's.
If I login to the device and execute show version, I get this information:
    Product/Model Number: AIR-AP1231G-A-K9
but if I execute "show inventory", I get the following information:
NAME: "AP1210", DESCR: "Cisco Aironet 1200 Series Access Point"
    PID: , VID: , SN: FTX0821J156.
So, do I have a 1231 Series? or do I have a 1210??? or what do I have???

    Hi,
I completely agree with what Rob stated.
    Here's my version -
Basically 1200 AP was designed in a modular fasion, just like routers. You get the router chassis and then install modules like WIC, VWIC etc.
1200 APs were designed in a similar fasion - 1210 chassis and the radio modules - 802.11b, 802.11g or 802.11a.
So 1231G access point is provided to you as a bunde of the 1210 chassis and 802.11g module.
This is the reason why they share the same OID.
AIR-AP1210 - part number for the chassis.
AIR-MP21G-x-K9 - part number for G radio Module.
AIR-RM21A-x-K9/AIR-RM22A-x-K9 - part number for A radio module.
AIR-AP1231G-x-K9 - bundled part number for chassis and module.
    Hope this clarifies.

  • How to change default admin password on Cisco Aironet 1040

How do I change the default username and password on the Cisco Aironet 1040. There is a default set and I want to change that to secure the device. I've checked the manual and can't seem to find the directions. Any ideas?

    Hi Brian,
If this AP is already registered with a WLC then you can change it via WLC.
In WLC GUI, go to Wireless -> Select the AP -> Credential -> Override Global Credential-> Update username/pw/enable pw
In WLC CLI, you can configure it like this. If it is for all APs, then select all, otherwise AP name.
    (WLC3) >config ap mgmtuser add username admin password Cisco123 secret Cisco123 ?
all            Applies the configuration to every AP that does not have a specific user name.
Enter the name of the Cisco AP.
(WLC3) >config ap mgmtuser add username password secret
    (WLC3) >save config
Are you sure you want to save? (y/n) y
If it is Autonomous AP you can configure using the "username xxxx password xxx" IOS command

  • How many users are supported on a Cisco Aironet 1141N? 30?

I have a client that wants to upgrade his Aironet 1131 APs with 1141N.  How many users are supported on a Cisco Aironet 1141N?

Yes, you could have 30 clients on the AP.
Client density all depends on what the client is doing, really.
So if you have clients that are just web surfing and pulling email 30+ isn't a problem.  If they are all streaming video, then you want to plan for less clients per AP, and more APs.

  • Cisco Aironet 1300 QoS

Hello, I have 2 Cisco Aironet 1300 Bridges which provide data and voice communication between 2 buildings. Up until recently QoS has not been needed, but lately there appears to be congestion due to reports of poor voice quality. Building A houses a V3000 NBX Telephone system, Building B houses approximately 30 remote IP phones. Building A and Building B are approximately 100 yards apart. No VLAN's. Due to myself being an extreme noob to Cisco bridges, I was hoping some of you may have had experience in setting this up and hopefully provide some tips. I need to prioritize traffic on UDP ports 2093-2096 and TCP port 1040. Thank you in advance for any suggestions. My current running config is below:

  • Configuring CISCO AIRONET AP

    Hello;
how to configure the IP Adress of CISCO AIRONET 1600i AP to access It through the Web browser and configure It?
we tried to assign a static IP using CLI so we downloaded Tera Term and tried to connect It using the DB Cable. The following message shows up:
*Mar 1 01:41:43.674: %CAPWAP-3-DHCP_RENEW: Could not discover WLC using DHCP IP. Renewing DHCP IP.
we tried to execute 'Enable' command and It works then we tried to execute 'config t' command but failed (the other commands do not work too):
    APf07f.06f0.93b5#config t

I connected the Aironet AP to a Router which has 192.168.1.1 as a default IP Adress and thats what shows up on the terminal:

    Hi
By default these AP comes with lightweight image & require a WLC to manage it.(unless you specifically order this AP with autonomous image)
If you want to convert it autonomous (to use without a WLC) then you have to load an autonomous image to it. You should have an image like this (ap1g2-k9w7-tar.153-3.JAB.tar)  to begin with (you may require a valid maintenance contract to download this from cisco web site)
Then you can follow one of the methods to convert it to a autonomous AP
    1. http://mrncciew.com/2012/10/20/lightweight-to-autonomous-conversion/
    2. http://mrncciew.com/2013/12/13/ap-conversion-using-mode-button/

Those are very old bridges. So if they are still functioning okay, do they require external antennas or not and do you have external antennas if they do?

    modprobe airo
    modprobe airo_ca
    then run iwconfig
eth1 (which is my wireless card) no wireless extensions
A few places suggested that it is the driver.  Anyone have any other suggestions?   Does anyone use a Cisco Aironet card?  How did you get it installed?

  • Cisco Aironet 1510

On the Cisco Aironet 1500 Series Lightweight Outdoor Mesh Access Point spec sheet from the Cisco.com website, it states that the input power for the DC inline POE is 28.5 W at 48 VDC, nominal. What is the maximum power at 48 VDC? On AC, the nominal power is 57.8W at 120 VAC. What is the maximum power at 120 VAC?
Also, I see that the Cisco 1510 only uses AC as a source. Does Cisco have a device for the Cisco Aironet 1510 that uses DC as a source? For example, instead of using the POE Injector that Cisco has, which uses an input of 120VAC (1.5A) and outputs 48VDC (1.2A), does Cisco have a POE Injector that uses an input of 12VDC and outputs 48VDC (1.2A).

I think the maximum draw (with both radios and heater on) is 57.8 Watts, but with the heater not active it's much lower around 36.84 Watts.
