Unsupported formula

Hi all.
I'm currently working on a Xcelsius project where I have included a fomula to extend  the VLOOKUP functionality. The formula makes VLOOKUP return all instances of the criteria given, from the range table.
It looks like this:
=IF(ISERROR(INDEX($A$1:$H$137;SMALL(IF($A$1:$A$137=$J$39;ROW($A$1:$A$137));ROW(1:1));2));"";INDEX($A$1:$H$137;SMALL(IF($A$1:$A$137=$J$39;ROW($A$1:$A$137));ROW(1:1));2))
The formula looks in a range, returns the row number, then returns the value from the column specified. The formula works as expected in the Xcelsius spreadsheet, but when generating preview, Xcelsius says ROW formula is not supported - and the desired functionality does not appear in the preview.
I have checked documentation for supported Excel formulas, and all formulas used is listed as supported.
Any hints on how to handle this? Or how to make a workaround to achieve the same functionality?
Thanks.
Best regards,
Runar Wigestrand.

Hi,
Excel supports formulas only for small data set's If you wanna show that on to the dashboard. However Xcelsius Support
Sumif,Countif,Hlookup,Vlookup .But not the formulae what you had written.
Please take out the SMALL from the formulea you have written. And try this..I will give you the error ,Till you remove the SMALL.
Any concerns write to me.
Thanks&Regards,

  • How do I solve unsupported formulas from excel?

If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate this!
I have just purchased latest i-works with the the intention of using Numbers to open and edit excel files and have found so far the purchase to be pointless!
When I open an excel file in numbers it opens okay except I get the following import warning:
"Unsupported formulas in 422 cells were removed from Table 1 on “HOMEPAGE.” The last calculated value was used."
Can anyone please tell me if there is a solution to this? I don't understand the point of the software if it doesn't actually open excel files like it says?? I can't work with numbers unless it will allow me to use these formulas properly.
    Please help!

    e,
While it's of no consolation to you now, there is a free trial available for iWork. The free trial works just like the one you pay for, but it has an expiration date.
The point of Numbers is to offer an alternative to Excel for those who don't absolutely have to be 100% compatible with Office. iWork does many things that Office doesn't, and some find those things to be of enough interest to justify the purchase.
The solution to your present problem is to get either Office or one of the free clones, or to take a look at the operation that isn't supported in Numbers and figure out another way to accomplish it with one or more of the supported functions. We'd be happy to assist with that if you would describe the operation. If you don't understand what is going on in the Excel doc, and you just want it to work, then you have no option but to go the Office route.

  • Unsupported formulas in 14 cells were removed.

When I import an excel spreadsheet, I get the message:
"Unsupported formulas in 14 cells were removed ...."
I am happy that at least Numbers tells me that the formulas were removed, but now I would like to know:
    *Which cells and which formulas?*
Could anybody point me to a list of the "missing Excel formulas"?
This could potentially be a usage nightmare, steering me away from using Numbers. If I cannot tell which formulas I am going to need to fix up, I cannot use the product reliably. If I cannot, then Numbers is only useful for viewing spreadsheets by Excel.

This message may only be shown on the PPC (American English) version of Numbers(?):

  • An error has occurred during SWF generation.

    Hello
We are receiving the error message "An error has occurred during SWF generation. Please contact the file creator or your system administrator" while trying to publish a dashboard to the BO server. But we haven't been able to assure the client what's causing the problem.
Here is some background about the dashboard and the error:
    - It does not contain any unsupported formulas.
    - It contains about 3,000 rows distributed on different tabs.
The error appears to happen randomly. I have succesfully exported the swf file locally (on my computer) a couple of times. Using the preview button also works sometimes, but when we try tu publish we get the error. We also have other dashboards, and publishing them works fine with them.
I think this might be a resources issue, the computer from which we are trying to publish has 2GB in RAM, and although it doesn't seem to be consuming all memory when trying to publish, it looks pretty close to do so.
I've succesfully deployed the swf file on locally on an other computer that has 8GB in RAM, but it is not in domain, so I cannot publish from there, and due to company's policy we cannot copy the swf files directly to the server.
I'm looking for help on the error, or for an explanation on what does Xcelsius do when generating the swf, for the tests I've run I would say it is a resources problem but I don't have a way to support this.

    Hi,
You can try to reduce the size and complexity in excel.
Just export your excel to local machine, open and save it again reimport the same excel.
By doing so your excel file size will get reduced. (To see the difference record the size when exported from xcelsius and after saving xls).
One more suggestion is try to reduce the complex formulas. All i can say is replace the Vlookup formulas with Match and Index.
Reduce if more countif() or Sumif() are used.
Last but not least, try to increase flashs buffer size.
    Hope this might help you.
If these things are not going to work......... Last option is to increase your machines RAM.

  • How Can I Open and Use Excel Spreadsheets on my Mac?

I am trying to find out how to work with Excel (.xls) files on my Mac.  I have the latest updates on my OS but my Numbers is about 3 yrs old.
I am able to work with the file on the Forum website, make adjustments.. but that is discouraged.  The owners encourage me to copy the .xls file to my computer and work with it there and finally submit it for critique.
When I copy the file to the Mac, it seems to come in as a Numbers file.. at least that's what it is when I open it.  When I work with cells, none of the algorithms work.. IOW, nothing changes with the results.
    What have I tried..?
I have put Open Office on the computer.  That supports Excel files.  But I guess my old mind doesn't know how to "import?" the .xls file on my desktop into OO.  So, I have not been able to make changes.  Possibly I am not seeing what needs to be done.
I have also clicked on the file icon. Right clicked on it and selected "Get Info" and said to open the file in Open Office.  Nothing happened when I actually tried to open that file.
I'm at a loss and this is pretty important.
I'm quite surprised that Numbers doesn't seem to allow working with .xls files  I'm hoping I'm missing something

    Thanks for the rapid replies...
I have NO problem opening the files.  As I stated in my OP, it is all about WORKING with the file.  IOW, this is a file to help me brew beer with changes in equipment size/configuration.. or simply changing a recipe.
When I change the size of my brew kettle, the algorithms should modify parameters in different places to modify how much water I would have to use, how much boil off I should expect.. etc etc.  Or if I want to modify the batch size of the brew from 20 gallons to 5 gallons.. when I imput that data, the recipe should change accordingly.  When I do this on the forum site.. it works.  When I import it the algorithms don't change the numbers.
What I get when I open the file, even as suggested by 'kkaufmann87" is that
"Unsupported formulas were replaced by the last calculated value".... which were the values I had when I copied the file to my computer.
Kolgrath.  This question was suggested by another person on that beer forum.. and Google Docs will not work either.

    1. No, but you might be able to upgrade to Lion. Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check that the computer has at least a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU, and if so, click here.
    2. Check the RAM from the About this Mac window, choose Computer from the Finder's Go menu, control-click the internal drive, and choose Get Info. If the computer has a 32-bit EFI, it can't be upgraded to Mountain Lion or above regardless of the RAM and free drive space.

  • Import from Excel - identifying affected cells from document warnings.

My first attempt at importing an Excel workbook produces Import warnings for 24021 cells.
24004 relate to cell formating. Of the remaining errors - 14 are " Unsupported formulas in nn cells were removed from Table"
If these 14 were the only errors, they, would be easy to spot, but mixed it with 24,000 other import errors - how do I work out which cells had unsupported formulas?
    Message was edited by: leahk

I'm seeing that now. I'll admit the format of the spreadsheet will be changing after I get these imported and moving forward.  I should have mentioned this is on an older SQL 2005 server, and am playing around with an Integration Services Project...
Essentially I need to pluck the data in cells A1, C2, A4, C4-E4 and insert those values into an existing SQL table. I've defined my Excel Source. Seeing as the source sheet is a mess and I need to select certain cells (not all are in a neat range like C4-E4...I
have some single cell values I ALSO need to import like A1 & C2) I chose "SQL Command" as my data access mode.
The one thing I can't figure out is how to write a select statement that allows me to select certain cells and a small range of cells. I can select a single value by using: SELECT * FROM [sheet1$A1:A1] OR I can choose a range with the following: SELECT *
FROM [sheet1$C4:E4]...how would I format a select statement that will allow me to pick not only the individual cells but ALSO the ranges I need?
I have tried SELECT...UNION...SELECT but am limited to two select statements and places everything into a single F1 column when I need it in a row view to map with the SQL columns...so each cell I pull has a separate F value so I can properly map the data
to the correct SQL column like the following:
    F1    F2   F3   F4    F5  F6   F7
    A1   C2   A4    A6   C4   D4   E4

  • Ranking data in Numbers

Hello, I recently purchased an iPad 4 and the Numbers application. I normally do my spreadsheet work on a PC with Excel. I copied an employee rankings Excel spreadsheet over to Numbers and was given the following message.
Unsupported formulas were removed. The last calculated values were imported.
Everything in the spreadsheet looks correct except the ranking values are expressed three different ways in the three different columns.
Name     Overall Rank     Apples Sold     Rank     Oranges Sold     Rank     Bananas Sold     Rank    TOTAL
    Mark              1                     5.2           300%           2.7                2          5.1                  1.00         13
So, even though the formulas are the same in all of the Rank columns, the rank results are expressed in very different ways

    Hi SG,
Looks like they're just formatted differently.
Select each column listing ranks, open the Inspector, choose the Cell Inspector.
Use the popup menu to select Number as the format, then set the number of decimal places to none.
NOTE: Reply is specific to Numbers for Mac OS X. The steps should be similar for the iOS version, but the route t the Cell inspector is lkely different.
    Regards,
    Barry

  • Are vlookups compatible between excel and numbers?

can i open and modify my work excel files with numbers

Responding to your post, which is a different question than what you used as a subject line:
As Jerry said, simple Excel spreadsheets import well.  More complex ones may not.  Some formatting may change.  Excel has many more formulas than Numbers; unsupported formulas get imported as values.  Data validation does not import, nor do other non-simple features of Excel. There are similar problem when exporting to Excel.
You do not want to import to Numbers then export back to Excel. The resulting Excel file will not be the same as if you had simply edited it in Excel.  Each Numbers table becomes a worksheet.  Worksheets are given names that correspond to Numbers Sheet and Table names. Try it once with an Excel spreadsheet with several worksheets and a chart or two and you'll see what I mean. And it gets progressively worse if you import/export the same document more than once.

  • How to troubleshoot problems with Excel import

When I import a spreadsheet from Excel into Numbers, I get a notification window with a long list of errors encountered during the import.  I can deal with the formatting issues, and I've managed to get rid of most of the "unsupported formulas" errors.  However, I still have one stubborn "unsupported formulas" error.  How do I get Numbers to identify which cell(s) have unsupported formulas that were removed on import from Excel?

There are some triangle symbols, but they refer to using a BOOLEAN as a number.  That's not where the problem with unsupported formulas is, though.  Numbers says that it replaced the cells that had unsupported formulas with the contents of the cell at the time of import, which I interpret as meaning that I should be looking at cells that don't contain formulas.  My problem is that I have lots of cells that contain only numbers, and I somehow need to find that single cell that have an unsupported formula in the Excel version of the file.
    Thanks for the suggestion, though.

  • "Eval Parsed Formula Node VI" does not return outputs in predefined order

I make a data analysis program, where the data consists of some million events and each event has e.g. 4 channels and 1-5 hits on each channel.
    I would like the user to select different expressions of these channels to give coordinates to plot in a 2D histogram (increment a bin in Intensity Graph), e.g. for some experiment you want to show x=ch1-ch2; y=ch1+ch2+ch3+ch4; while in another experiment you want x=ch1-123; y=123-ch2;
There are other VIs that use static LabView-code for the normal things, but now after a few years of adding to this program I find that it would be quite good with a general plotter and let the user specify simple expressions like this. Also with the "normal" static plots, there is a need to filter out bad data and then it would be much simpler both to program and use if you could write text expressions with boolean logic to combine multiple filters. Making a LabView code and GUI that allows AND/OR/parenthesis combinations of expressions will be quite an effort and not very reusable.
So, with the above motivation, I hope you see that it would make sense to have a useable string formula evaluator in LabView. I find some info about MathScript's user-defineable functions, but haven't managed to get MathScript working in LV2010 yet (maybe some licensing or installation issues, I think I had it in 8.6). But I think it would be possible to do most of what I want for the display-part (not the filtering) with the simpler Eval/Parse Formula Node VIs and suitable use of the limited variable name space. So I started testing, and found a quite annoying issue with how the evaulator works.
To the parser, you are expected to send an array of output variable names. But then it ignores this array, and returns one output per assignment/semicolon in the formula, in the order of the formula text. Since the static parts of my program need to know what the output values mean (which of them is x and which is y), I would have to rely on the user not using any intermediate variable and defining x before y. The attached screenshot demonstrates the problem, and also that it has been solved by NI statff in the "Eval Formula Node VI" which does the appropriate array-searching to extract only the pre-defined outputs, in their expected order. But using that VI is about 100 times as slow, I need to pre-compile the formula and then only use the evaulator in the loop that runs over a million events.
I don't know if I'll take the time to make my own tweks to the parsing stage (e.g. preparation of array-mapping to not have to repeat the search or maybe hacking the output list generated by the parser) or if I'll have to make it in a static Formula Node in the block-diagram (which supports more functions), so that the user has to run with development environment and stop the program to change the plotting function. But I wanted to share this trouble with you, in hope of improvments in future LabView versions or ideas from other people on how I could accomplish my aim. I have MATLAB-formula node possibility too, but is far as I have seen the only place the user could update the formula would then be in a separate .m file, which is re-read only when typing "clear functions" in the Matlab console window. (Having this window is also an annoyance, and perhaps the performance of calling Matlab in every iteration is not great.)
Besides this issue, it also seems very strange there is virtually no support for conditional expressions or operators in Formula Node evaulated formulas (called Mathematics VIs in the documentation). Maybe using (1+sign(a-b))/2 you can build something that is 0 when a<b and 1 when a>b, but it is not user friendly! Would it really be diffcult to add a function like iif(condition, return_value_if_true, return_value_if_false) to replace the unsupported "condition ? if_true : if_false" operator? Would it really be difficult to add support for the < <= >= > == || && operators? Although compiled to an assemply language, this can't exactly be difficult for a CPU.

    (1) You can put any kind of code inside an event structure with the limitation that it should be able to complete quickly and without user interaction.  For example a while loop for a newton-raphson method is fine, but an interactive while loop where the stop condition depends on user iteraction is not recommended. By default, event structures lock the front panel until the event completes, so you would not even be able to stop it.
    (2) Yes, you can do all that. LabVIEW has no limitation as a programming language. Use shift registers to hold data and state information, the manipulate the contents as needed.
    (3) I would recommend to use plain LabVIEW primitives instead of formula nodes. Show us your code so we can better see what it's all about. Obviously you have a mismatch betweeen scalars and arrays. It is impossible from the given information where the problem is.
    (4) Yes, look inside the nonlinear curve fit VI (you can open it an inspect the code!). One of the subVIs does exactly that. Just supply your model VI.
LabVIEW Champion . Do more with less code and in less time .

and to insert books and writers through a POST request is working but now I'm trying create a link between two entities. For that, I wrote the following request:
    POST /HanaODataTests/bookstore.xsodata/writers(name='Test',birth=datetime'2014-07-11T00:00:00.0000000')/$links/Titles HTTP/1.1
    Host: xxxxxxxxxx
    DataServiceVersion: 1.0
    MaxDataServiceVersion: 2.0
    Content-Type: application/xml
    <uri xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices">
    http://xxxxxxx/HanaODataTests/bookstore.xsodata/books('HAPI%20Hana%20Integration%20Test%20Volume%201')
    </uri>
and I always get as a response:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes"?><error xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices/metadata"><code/><message xml:lang="en-US">Unsupported character set: The entity of the request is in a format not supported by the requested resource for the requested method.</message></error>
Or sometimes the response is that the statement cannot be a POST statement because Titles are not an entity.
Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong?
    Thank you for your attention
    Pablo

But to insert a book for example, which is a POST operation, it's working using ATOM format.
    I've updated my statement:
    POST /HOData/library.xsodata/writers(name='Robert%20Kingst',birth=datetime'2008-04-08T00:00:00.0000000')/$links/Titles HTTP/1.1
    Host: xxxxxxx
    DataServiceVersion: 1.0
    MaxDataServiceVersion: 2.0
    Content-Type: application/atom+xml
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes"?>
    <uri xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices">
    http://xxxx/HOData/library.xsodata/books('HAPI%20Hana%20Integration%20Test%20Volume%201')
    </uri>
only indicating what kind of content it is: Content-Type: application/atom+xml and now the response change for:
    <error xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices/metadata"><code /><message xml:lang="en-US"><corrupt message></message></error>
Is this arising becouse of the incompatibility of format?
And other question is, if the format had compatibility, my request would be right?

  • Workaround for unsupported Excel Substitute() function?

I have a cell being analyzed which stores user input and after a button is clicked i need to analyze the text in that cell and replace every carriage return "char(10)" with the string "%0D".  Excel's Substitute() function can do this in one shot for me, but it is not supported within Xcelsius.  I have tried the Replace() function but this only swaps the first occurance and does not fix all of them if multiples exist.
I realize this can likely be done using an external script or .aspx but I was curious if it's possible to achieve this within the internal spreadsheet itself?  What I have done is copied the Replace() formula into 5 cells, each one referencing the cell before it in hopes that there are never more than 5 carriage returns that need to be replaced, but I was wondering if there's a more efficient/automatic way to do this.
Considered posting this in an Excel forums but I have a feeling I would get a solution that involves another unsupported function.  Thanks for any help/answers.

I don't know of any way to do this using only supported Excel formulas. The only ways I can think of would involve macros or an array formula.
However if this is still relating to the email link you were enquiring about I have 2 possible solutions / workarounds.
    Solution 1:
    1. Inputbox for user suggestion with Destination cell set to A1
    2. A2 Contains the formula ="mailto:xATx.com?subject=Any Subject&body="&A1
    3. URL Button links to cell A2 as the URL ensuring that "Encode URL" is checked
The above solution works correctly for me keeping all line breaks as they are typed. The "Encode URL" setting appears to be the key. This is using Xcelsius 2008 with Fix pack 3.3.
    Solution 2:
A lot more complicated workaround more than a solution. This does effectively perform the same as the Substitute Function. I'll try to explain but without being able to attach an example my explanation may not make a great deal of sense.
    1. A1 is the Destination for the user input or cell containing text with line breaks
    2. Create an "input text area" object, check "enable HTML formatting" and set the default text as &lt;BR&gt;. Set the destination cell as A2 and check "insert data on load". Hide this item behind something so that it cannot be seen.
    3. Create a push button which copies the value from cell A1 to cell A3
    4. In cell A4 put the formula =NOT(ISERROR(FIND(A2,A3))) This returns TRUE if there are line breaks in the input text
    5. In cell A5 put the formula =IF(A4,REPLACE(A3,FIND(A2,A3),1,"%0D"),IF(A3="","",A3))  This replaces the first line break with %0D if appropriate
    6. Create a combo box component. Set the labels as cell A5, set the insertion type to label, set the destination to A3. Uncheck "Clear destination when no item is selected". Next on the behaviour tab set selected item type to Label and Item to Cell A5. This now copies the results of the formula back to Cell A3 if it changes.
    7. If you now input any text in the input box and click on the push button both cells A3 and A5 will replace all occurrences of CHAR(10) with "%0D"
Personally I think this workaround may be a little tricky to get working exactly as you like... but it 'should' work.
I should note that this can be used as a substitute replacement by ignoring step 2 and instead typing the text to be replaced in cell A2 and the formula in cell A5 should be =IF(A4,REPLACE(A3,FIND(A2,A3),len(A2),"%0D"),IF(A3="","",A3)) where %0D is the text to replace with.
Hope this helps and makes sense,
    Paul

  • Question About Unsupported Excel Function Workarounds

Hi everyone! I hope this is ok to post something like this here. I haven't seen any rules against it so I am hoping I am able to. My apologies in advance if this is something I should ask in another location.
My question / issue is in regards to the unsupported ISNA and ISBLANK functions in Excel. I can't seem to find a suitable workaround for XCelsius without using those two formulas in Excel and I am hoping someone here will be able to help or guide me.
I have a cell that is for my input. If that cell has nothing in it I want Excel to continue to return the #N/A error as it is ignored and not shown in the List Box I have built in XCelsius. If there is a value input and it is not found in the Excel model I want it to return "No Record". Finally, if it is found then it will display the appropriate list of items.
Any suggestions on a way to get this to function within Excel that will be compatible within XCelsius?
Thanks in advance for your help everyone!

    Hi Aaron,
both ISNA and ISBLANK are supported functions. The support for most IS() functions was added in SP1. They are not in the list in the help yet, but there should be the list of added functions in release notes. So, the following functions are supported:
    ISERR
    ISERROR
    ISEVEN
    ISODD
    ISLOGICAL
    ISNONTEXT
    ISTEXT
    TYPE
    ISNUMBER
    ISNA
