Up to my 3rd iPad :(

I broke up first ipad, it was thrown accidentally. And I left my 2nd iPad on top of my car and flew off! I paid $380 for my replacement iPad. I'm about to have an appointment with a genius. I hope that the price doesn't go up for my 3rd replacement iPad. Do you think they will replace it for $380 still? I certainly hope so:(

To play Devil's Advocate, why do you think you should get a price break for replacing iPads that didn't have any defects in them?  The iPad's were NOT defective.  (I'll be nice and not say where I think the "defect" is. )  Your track record shows no reason why you deserve any price break.  In fact you should be paying full price to "replace" your non-defective iPads, not lying to Apple and only paying $380.  In fact, you should be paying extra to get insurance for your iPad since you seem to not be able to take very good care of your devices.

  • Returned 3rd iPad to the store for display woes.  QA with Apple?

I bought two 64g 3g black iPads with apple on launch day. In fact I was the first one in the store. One had hair under the glass, backlight bleeding, and bad pixels. The other had bad pixels scattered and a little back light bleeding. Was going to get them switched the next day and the store said they had them and then didn't so I returned the two.
Yesterday, I picked up two new units that were on hold and one had a few dust things under the glass but neither had pixel issues. But the two units both have really really bad backlight bleeding around 3 of the 4 edges. I have heard this is the glue drying, but my first gen. iPad 1 of the same spec is what I would define as perfect. Is there any truth that anyone has seen with the backlight bleeding going away or dissipating over the last week?
The store is friendly about the issues, but to wait 13 hours, make multiple and unnecessary trips is very frustrating. I simply wonder what happened to quality control. Almost as if Apple decided to throw it out the window in favor of getting enough units out.
Any thoughts or suggestions on if this bleeding will go away? I really would hate to have to return the 4th one when I intended to buy two and so far only one of four has been mediocre versus the rest being unacceptable.

I also bought an iPad 3 64G and had to return it due to light bleeding. The second replacement again had the same issue. I returned it to the apple store but before accepting the 3rd replacement I asked to check for light bleeding and discovered it had the same issue. The apple representative opened a 4th iPad and surprise surprise! the same issue. At  this point they had ran out of stock so sent me the a different store. I was unable to check the 5th ipad at the store so took it home but again the same issue. I call apple support and a 6th iPad will be posted out to me once I return the 5th. Apple had no issued changing the devices and I can't fault the apple representatives who helped me but considering the ipad 3 is all about the screen, Apple obviously have a quality issue with the optical system and need to address it ASAP. It shouldn't be quantity rather than quality!!!!

  • I bought a 3rd ipad for my daughter in CA. I synced w/my PC to load some apps since she has no PC. Now I am in Iraq with PC and my iPad. If I buy my her iTunes gift cards, can she buy apps and music w/out using my pin and charging to my Credit card?

I bought another iPad for my daugther.  Because she has no PC, I loaded her iPad with apps from My PC. Now she is in Oceanside CA.  And I am in Iraq with my iPad and PC.. My question is: How can my daughter load some apps of her own?  If I buy her iTunes gift cards, can she redeem them on her iPad with out using my Pin number (as that would give her access to my credit card)! I prefer to gifted her purchases, not allow her to purchase with access to my credit card. Can this be done?

well if the ipad is on your itunes account then her apps and music etc will be billed to you. but if you give her gift cards you should take off your credit card because itunes won't tell you when you are all through with your gifted money and are back to useing your credit card until after you have made a purchase

  • Ipad 2 losing network connection

I posted this on Dec 10:
In the last 2 weeks I have had the same issue. On my 3rd ipad.
1st one I update to 8.02, started having issue. Verified with AT&T that it was not a network issue.
2nd one went to apple store and the replaced with another one. They updated to 8.02 before I installed anything. Did not restore from the cloud..
3rd one left at 7.1.1, Did not restore from cloud. Told not to upgrade.
Contacted Apple Tech Support: very rude, did not want to here about problem. Told me to do what the apple store said.
Contacted Apple Customer Relation explained how nice their Tech support was xxx
Supposedly they are filing a case.
    Will post any replies.
Today I get a call from Apple and they ARE NOT aware of the issue.
I have read several post by many of you. There is an issue with 8.0.2. Two ipads doing the exact same thing in 2 weeks. Sounds weird.
    Good luck finding a solution.
I hear anything I will post.

One way for people to have Apple be made aware of an issue is to open up a trouble ticket. And by the way, if anyone thinks that just posting here will make Apple aware, they are wrong, since Apple does not monitor this forum for "issues" to fix and this forum is a "users helping other users".
SO ... to make Apple "aware" ... people need to file trouble tickets on the issue. It will get fixed that way. I know that the original poster has already done that, but for all others ... here are the links for that ...

  • Dead pixel in my iPad

I was grievously disappointed to discover a dead pixel near the center of the screen in my iPad yesterday just before leaving to the U.S. from Japan.
Almost everything I have ever gotten from Apple has had a defect like this and I've had to fight fight fight to get it fixed each time.
But... I decided to see if I could get it replaced while here in the U.S.
So I made an appointment at the Genius Bar at the Apple Store at the Chestnut Hill Mall here in Boston and brought the iPad over at 2 pm.
The guy at the Bar was nice, saw the broken pixel and immediately said he'd swap it for a new one for me! So I was very pleasantly surprised and glad about that.
Then the new swapped one ALSO had a broken pixel - almost in the exact same area!!!
So he sort of sighed, but did a 2nd swap out for a 3rd iPad. This time we looked and looked (while impatient people were backed up to get help) and couldn't find a single broken pixel.
So fortunately this problem was resolved very nicely by Apple and I'm good to go. Using a 2 GB AT&T contract with an AT&T SIM card while I'm in the U.S.
I'm surprised that two iPads in a row had a broken pixel, and almost in the same area. But I was really pleased at the friendly, reassuring service I got at the Genius Bar.

    Yes, extraordinary bad luck.
While I haven't had problems with my desktop Macs (iMacs) or my iPhone 3G, every other mobile/portable device I ever bought from Apple, going back 20 years, has had something go wrong with it, usually from the start, often multiple times. Examples:
    - Duo: the screen had multiple broken pixels and needed to be replaced from the start.
    - iBook: the wireless card (then an option) was set improperly and wasn't working. Needed to be sent back for repair.
    - PowerBook G4: broken pixels needing replacement from the start, keyboard problems requiring top case and kb replacement. Also, that model had a really poorly designed cover that never closed properly (the famous wiggling cover problem.)
    - MacBook Pro: Failure 2 times in 3 years of my trackpad requiring replacement; broken pixels requiring replacement; hard disk failure requiring replacement. Two replacements of mother board! The last one 2 months after my AppleCare warranty ran out, but Apple fixed it anyway. Keyboard needing replacement. I'm using it right now on my trip to the U.S. and it's still working after almost 4 years, but it definitely has taken advantage of the AppleCare warranty multiple times. And I'm not a rough user - I almost never take it off my desk, except on travel.
    - iPod nano: Don't even get me started on that one. The screen was tilted (big discussion thread here) - they sent me 3 replacements, one worse than the other. I finally had to go to the Japan consumer affairs agency to force Apple to give me a refund. Which they finally did, with an apology and a gift certificate to use at the online store.
    - iPad: broken pixel needing replacement, followed by a 2nd iPad with another broken pixel needing immediate replacement.
This is just what I can remember off the top of my head.
Unless I am unusually unlucky, my own sampling over the years tells me that while Apple support is great and they take care of the problems after the fact, they definitely have quality issues coming out of the factory to begin with.
I always have to "mentally prepare myself" before buying an Apple product because I know I am very likely going to have to invest a certain amount of time in dealing with Apple support and getting things fixed afterwards. Eventually it turns out ok each time, but just knowing I will have to deal with it is stressful.

  • IPad Air and random crashes

    Greetings,
I'm now on my 3rd iPad (still have my original iPad, and an iPad 3), and just bought an iPad Air, so I've been around them since their inception. I must admit that I've never had any issues with my iPads, until I purchased this Air. I don't know if it's iOS 7.0.4 or the Air itself, but it seems to crash like a drunk driver with sunglasses on at night. It really doesn't matter which app I have running, but I've noticed it most often in Safari and 500px. Safari will be humming along, and next thing I know, I'm back on the Home screen, and whatever I was previously doing is lost (for instance a transaction that I was making through PayPal). With 500px, I'll be viewing photos and suddenly I'm in the Home screen, but can frequently continue from where I previously was.
I might be in another app, working away, and then the iPad simply reboots, and I find myself staring the Apple logo on the black screen. Once I'm able to enter my password and get back in to the iPad, all of my apps are still up and runninng, but whatever I was previously doing is lost. My iPad is most often connected to WiFi, and though I have the cellular addition, it's alwasy turned off. I've had similiar things happen on my iPhone 5 running iOS 7.0.4, but not nearly as often as on my iPad Air.
Has anyone else had similiar issues or problems? Any thoughts? Any fixes?
    Jeff

HHe's. A simple visit to Settings, disabling and then immediately re-enabling the feature fixes the issue. But just for a while.
APPLE: Do you hear us?  This should be a VERY easy issue to resolve. It's pervasive, well documented, and utterly annoying and frustrating. Please issue a fix ASAP.

  • What does enter password for what does cardDAV account "yahoo" mean on ipad 2

what does enter password for cardDAV account "yahoo" mean on ipad 2

I'm having exactly the same problem. I saw no further responses and am wondering if you resolved this. Just bought the newest iPad. I'm a comfortable user as I'm on my 3rd iPad. Never seen this asked of me. Incidentally I am also trying to resolve why I "can't connect to apple store". For that I have reset "network settings" & forgotten my wireless network. I'm starting to wonder if the CArdDAV and "can't connect to the apple store are related. I can reach the Internet via Mail & Safari. I have a weak g3 connection. Not able to download anything via that as it's slow right now. I am trying to restore my apps after a theft of my old one. I have quite a few apps I need to download and I can make none of them happen. And every time I reboot the "cardDAV password" request comes up, repeatedly.

  • Exchange old iPad for a new iPad

Are you able to exchange the a new 3rd iPad for a new 4th iPad

Most of the people on these forums, including myself, are fellow users - you're not talking to Apple or iTunes Support here.
Apple don't do trade-ins. If you bought it from Apple within the past 14 days then you can take it back for a refund. Otherwise if you want the iPad 4 then you will probably be better off in terms of value by selling your current iPad privately (e.g. to family, a friend, or possibly via sites such as eBay) rather than trying to find a store that will do a trade-in.

  • IPAD 3 is very hot

After my first update, my iPad becomes very hot. Is there any solution?.
I think it can be dangerous.

The best measure to determine whether the iPad is hot or not doesn't require rocket science. Not much of personal sense of feel. Instead, it's how the battery reacts to the device's heat.
According to Apple, the iPads' battery temperature treshold is  32° to 95° F. That’s 0° to 35° C.
In the case of iDevices, environmental temperature=operating temperature because of a known fact that in Apple designs, they've stripped out the plastic made protective shield of the battery, thus decreasing the battery's heat resistance.
(In my course of landing with the current 3rd iPad, I was told by an AppleCare consultant that iPads that operate over 34.6°, they qualify for exchanges. no second word)
Make sure a full discharge is conducted
Fully charge the iPad without using it
    Remove all iPad cases
Use the iPad at normal conditions, probably keep brightness at 75% at most. Now run applications like games that are not retina supported. Then, include games like Real Racing2 HD (a Retina game) in your test.
    Measure both results using...
An infrared thermometer/ thermal scanner to pick the heat numbers from the back of the iPad, especially the lower left corner beside the home button.
If heat is proven to be above, especially way above 35celcius. The message is glaring at you; the iPad is producing more heat than what it can take, its a manufacturing defect.
Go get an exchange if the heat is indeed over 35 celicius or 95f

  • Is iPad mini 2 screen glass or LCD??

Is the iPad mini 2 screen a glass or an LCD??
With my first iPad mini - I bought a glass screen protector and used it with the iPad straight out the box. A short while later I had to return this as it was displaying yellow screen issues.
My second iPad mini that I received, I also applied a glass screen saver from first use but this also had to be returned for the same reason.
I'm now onto my 3rd iPad mini with retina and because I've wasted two screen savers (at £14.99 each) I've decided to wait to see if this one is ok before I buy/waste another screen protector .
When my son was using it I noticed that when he was dragging things across the screen it had that blurb of colour that you get when you press an LCD screen.
I assumed the iPad mini 2 had a tougher glass screen (than you would get with an LCD) in which case you wouldn't expect to get that effect when you pressed it.
Because I have never used the previous two iPads with just their own screen I can't compare.
I don't know if this is normal for the type of screens that the iPad mini 2 has or if it is a fault in mine.
    Can anybody verify please???
    Thanks in advance.

Think it has a fault then as it doesn't take a hard press, firm yes, but not overly firm.
When he was doing a click and drag on one of the games and I noticed I tried it and it didn't take a hard press to distort it. Because I've always used a glass screen protector I wasn't sure if that was normal or whether there was a fault with it. It must have a fault then. Oh well looks like another return!!!
Really disappointed. Waited months for the mini 2 release, bought on release day and this is third one and looks like going on to 4th!
Like I say, my sons tv does it but his screen isn't glass and I thought a glass screen prevented that. That's why I was unsure of the ipad screen. Was pretty certain they had glass screens but wouldn't have expected the screen to distort with a press.
    Thanks for your advice. :)

  • Replace ipad mini with a newer version

I got my 2nd ipad mini replacement from apple service center here in the Philippines last January 31, 2014. Technically this is my 3rd ipad mini (from the 1st that i bought to the 1st and 2nd replacement). After two weeks of use i noticed that it has also the same defects as with my 1st ipad mini replacement. (What is the odd of having 3 defective ipad minis?!) Apple service center here replace defective ipad mini with brand new one instead of repairing the product if and only if the defects is caused by hardware problems. I am planning to take this back to apple service center. My question is, is it possible to replace my ipad mini with the newer version? (i am very sure that they will still replace this with a new one.) Their price difference is just about Php5,000. I can just add for their price difference.

let's say i have an asset which is a Photoshop file,
filename "v1". i want to replace the asset with a
newer version of the Photoshop file, filename "v2".
how do i replace the "v1" asset with the "v2" asset,
so that all instances of "v1" in the project are
    changed to "v2"?
    thank you.
    rev B 20"
    iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.2)
I usually just write over the file with the same file name, often with DVDSP closed.
If you're doing an m2v file and the duration has changed, just go the the end of the clip in the track and drag it right as far as you can. Otherwise it'll replace the asset but use the previous version's duration.

  • My iPad air does not have an lock on/off toggle for the smart cover ipad cases.

Last week I received my new at&t 64gb iPad air. (This is my 3rd iPad. 2nd that, I assume, can use a smart cover style ipad case.) Although I have not purchased a new cover for it yet. I could not help but notice that in the Settings/general there is no "Lock" on/off toggle for the magnetic cover as ther is on my iPad3. does  anyone know if there is supposed to be one on the ipad air or did apple do away with the toggle altogether?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Settings > General > Lock/Unlock shoud still appear.
You must be running iOS 7 (which you presumably are doing on an iPad Air).  And you should be using a Smart Cover or Smart Case made by Apple.  Third party covers/cases may well not function.
