Update General error in Excel EPM add-in

Hello!
My problem is the following:  each time I try to initiate a connection in the EPM add-in in Excel, the system requires me to execute an update. The update takes ages and finally, I get an error message (see hereafter).
The version I currently have is : 10.0 SP 15 Patch 2 .NET 3.5 (Build 8586) and the version it wants to install is 10.0.0.8602.
It is very annoying since I cannot do anything but accept the installation...
What should I do?

Hi Anais,
At first, what is your BPC Server SP level?
I think this behaviour is produced because your BPC server is on the latest SP and need the supported latest EPM version too. 
If you're running under BW 731, I guess you're in SP05. Otherwise if you're in BW730, your BPC server should be on SP12.
If my guess of above is correct, you should install the latest EPM (SP16) which required by BPC SP12. See SP12 central note 1893075 :
You are suggested to update the SAP BusinessObjects EPM Solutions add-in for Microsoft Office to
version SP16 for use with this release of Planning and Consolidation. We recommend that you install
all components at the same time to ensure version consistency.
I suggest you uninstall current EPM, download the latest one SP16 (10.0.0.8602) or directly from the BPC Web client on the right panel (it will ensure version consistency between EPM and BPC Server) and install the EPM again.

    I have a problem with creation of EPM Add-in connection when SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise connection type is selected.
    An error message is "Error while communicating with the server. Framework message: Authorization failed."
    Here are the steps that were implemented and how this issue was reproduced:
    SAP BusinessObjects Planning and Consolidation 10.0 SP12 for Microsoft was installed and configured.
    Integration between SAP BPC and SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.1 SP02 was implemented. SAP BO users can successfully connect to SAP BPC system.
    EPM connector was successfully installed and deployed in SAP BusinessObjects BI server.
    BPC ODBO 2.0 SP04 64BIT was installed in SAP BusinessObjects server.
    EPM connection was successfully created in SAP BusinessObjects CMC.
    EPM Add-in and BPC ODBO 2.0 SP04 32BIT was installed in another computer (let's call it CLIENT) which has MS Office 2007 32BIT installed.
    From CLIENT computer we have launched Excel manually and successfully created BPC connection with Connection Type - Local.
    Then we have logged into BI Launch Pad and launched New / EPM document (Excel). Excel has started.
    In EPM Add-in we have pressed Logon.
    In connection window selected SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise connection type.
    An error "Error while communicating with the server. Framework message: Authorization failed." appears.
    Before this error appears we are not getting any window where we could select EPM connection (created in CMC) nor the possibility to enter username or password.
    Looking forward you valuable comments and suggestions.

    Our user has Full Access to all BPC tasks and it is administrator in BI system.
    Also we can successfully connect with the same user using Connection type "Local".
    We had done some investigation and in the BPC SQL Server trace log we can catch the following message when an error occurs:

    It is very interesting that after the EPM workbook is launched via BI Launch Pad till an error occurs we are NOT provided with possibility to enter any username and password. So the EPM add-in should use the same user which was logged into BI Launch Pad - in our case the user with administrative rights both in BI Launch Pad and BPC systems. Am I missing anything?

  • After December 2014 update, Compile Error - calling Excel Objects Sub "Object library invalid or contains references to object definitions that could not be found"

    When try to call Sub in Excel Objects > SheetXX after the original xlsm is modified and saved by another user in diff machine, getting an error below and seems Excel cannot identify any subs exists in Sheet.

    Note: it seems that this problem has been occurring After December 2014 update and still exists even after applying the fix:

  • Essbase Error in Excel's Add-In

    When i drill-down in a Cube's Dimension in a vast query (using the Essbase's add-in for Excel), i get the Essbase Error: Maximum number of rows [8192] exceeded [8208]. Although i increased the No of rows in parameter SSPROCROWLIMIT in essbase.cfg, the problem remains.Any help will be appreciated.Thanks.

    I'm guessing that you're using an old version of Excel, since it thinks you have only 8192 rows as the max number of rows available. Since Excel 97, there has been 65,536 rows to a sheet.The problem here is you've done a query that is returning more rows than your version of Excel can handle. Change the cfg file will not fix this. Either choose a query that would return fewer rows or upgrade your Excel. One other possiblity could be that you're running the Lotus add-in instead of the Excel add-in.

  • Microsoft Excel 2013 add-in not working after update

    We are an organization with over 200 users and are currently using Microsoft Office 2013 (Click-to-run install via Office 365 portal), we have noticed that in Excel when we apply the monthly Office update, the add-in (e.g. Analysis Toolpak) would stop working
    with the following error message displayed.
    I tried updating from 15.0.4631.1004 to 15.0.4641.1003,
    15.0.4641.1003 to 15.0.4649.1004, they all gave the same results.
    I have checked the captioned file path and it is indeed missing, I think the update mechanism messed up the add-in somehow, a full re-install would fix it as quick or online repair is not doing the trick.  This is not the only add-in it is affecting
    as there are some 3rd party add-ins are affected as well.
    Please advise how we can fix this without needing to re-install Microsoft Office.  Thank you!

    I don't have 365 or C2R so I can't address your main question, so just a few thoughts which may not be applicable in your setup.
    Check the addin manager to see if your addins are listed and ticked. If listed (ticked or not) check the registry to see where the location is written, if ticked look here
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Excel\Options
    and look for keys named OPENx, where x is the order number the addin is loaded
    if not "ticked" instead of \Options look in \Add-in-Manager
    With a VBA macro or in the VBE's immediate window return
    Application.LibraryPath 
    Assuming you found a listing in the registry do the paths match, if not look in the .LibraryPath to see if the addins got unloaded there into the subfolder \Analysis
    If you find the file(s) try un-installing and reinstalling the addins, but browse to the actual folder don't simply tick. If you can't find the files, copy them (from a different system) to the folder indicated by .LibraryPath. In the addin manager uninstall
    them if installed, close the manager, open it again and the addins should be listed, tick to re-install.
    You say your other addins don't work, I wonder if some mixup has occurred with what Excel thinks is the default path, but note for other addins the default addins path is returned by app.UserLibraryPath
    Are you using a Chinese system?

    Hi,
    We have acknowledged of BPC EPM add-in problems after some MS Office updates. What we know so far is that this error occurs on BPC 10 NW version and it was delivered an SAP Note (2107965) with resolution/workarounds. On our system we have BPC 10 MS version.
    What we would like to know is if this issue also occurs on Microsoft version or is exclusive to Netweaver version.
    Do you have any information on this?

    As Arnold has confirmed, this issue impacts BPC NW, BPC MS and SAP Financial Consolidation as all three of these products use the same EPM Add-in front end.

  • EPM Add-In Auto Update is very slow

    Good day, experts.
    Probably someone also encountered the similar problem on SAP BPC 10, SP11 for SAP NW (Windows/Oracle):
    when I start EPM Add-In Excel from the Launch pad on our BPC server in a browser, MS Excel shows me a message about availability of a new version and offers me to start an update. After I confirm this the download process starts, which can take 1,5 hours to finish, though the files size isn't too big (around 150 Mb). This time doesn't change even if I run the update in the same network with our BPC server. 
    I've tried to change several parameters like
    icm/HTTP/max_request_size_KB = 307200
    icm/IIOP/max_request_size_KB = 307200
    icm/P4/max_request_size_KB = 307200
    mpi/total_size_MB = 800
    mpi/buffer_size = 262144
    but in vain. Could you please assist. Thanks in advance.

    This is an older post, but I thought I'd share our solution.
    Take a look at SAP Note 1814184 - Provide chunk size customization for EPM Add-In update.
    We are on SAPK-80011INCPMBPC.  However, the global parameter AUTO_UPDATE_CHUNK_SIZE was not set.  It defaulted to 1MB.
    1.  Open T-Code SIMGH and select 'Planning and Consolidation Configuration' as the IMG structure. Press F7 to diaplay it.
    2. Expand 'Configuration Parameters' and click the query button beside 'Set Global Parameters'
    3. Press F5 to insert a parameter named 'AUTO_UPDATE_CHUNK_SIZE' with an integer value, which indicades the size of a chunk in MB. If you don't set the parameter, the default chunk size is 1MB. Please be aware that you'd better not set the value too big in case you have poor band width of your working network, otherwise the EPM Add-In may become not responding during the upgrading.
    We set AUTO_UPDATE_CHUNK_SIZE to 10 (MB).  The update install time was reduced from 2 hours to 10 minutes.

    please follow the below steps.
    If the EPM add-in has been deactivated, you can re-activate it.
    In Microsoft Office Excel 2007,click the Office button, then click the Excel Options button.
    In the Excel Options dialog box,select Add-Ins.
    Select Disabled Items from the Manage dropdown list and click the Go button.
    In the Disabled Items dialog box,select the SAP BusinessObjects EPM Solutions, add-in for Microsoft Office and click the Enable button.
    Click the Close button.
    In Microsoft Office Excel 2010,click the File->Options->Add-Ins.
    In the Inactive Application Add-ins area, select "EPM add-in for Microsoft Office".
    In the Manage dropdown list,select “COM Add-Ins”.
    Click "EPM Add-In for Microsoft Office" in the dialog box that appears.

    Our client is having some problems with Microsoft Excel (MS Office 2013) since the SAP BPC EPM Add-in was installed in their computers.
    They are suffering from Microsoft Excel slowing down, even when not connected to SAP BPC (10.0 NW version).
    For example, when opening two or more excel archives, not connected to SAP BPC, Microsoft Excel crashes and is restarted with errors.

    EPM add-on version 10.0  SP20  (10.0.0.8993).
    and our customer have installed in theirs PC's:
    MS Office 2013 15.0.4675.1001 32-bit.
    EPM add-on version 10.0 SP19 patch 1 .NET 3.5 compilation 936.

    Solved. It's a known issue. The solution, as provided by SAP Support is:
    Dear Customer,
    This problem may relate to a known issue, which happens on EPM Add-in
    with Excel 2010 when zoom is NOT 100%.
    to verify this, could please please try to set the zoom to 100% for
    your EPM report in question. and observe if refreshing performance is
    recovered?.

    I'm currently researching an upgrade to version 10.0.  We're currently running BPC 7.0 for MS.  I'm confused at the moment, because I'm not sure if/what the difference is between the EPM Add-In and BPC 10.0.  Can someone answer this?
    I'm also not understanding the future roadmap for BPC 10.0 and beyond.  It appears to me that an attempt to merge Business Objects functionality and BPC functionality into one product/suite of products is what is happening, but I could be wrong about that too.  Can someone expand on this as well?

    The EPM10 Client (aka add-in) is the unified Excel interface for a subset of EPM products (Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidations, Strategy Management and BPC).  Clients did not like having different report writing paradigms in all of these applications, so the EPM10 Client was developed utilizing a technology called Extended Analytics Analyzer mashed with some of the BPC reporting functionality from BPC7.x to provide one stop shopping for accessing data in EPM applications.  Additionally, the EPM10 Client can be used in many cases to report directly against native BW cubes or any other source that supports an ODBO connection. 
    BPC10 is the planning and consolidations application with the code engine to support the application functionality.  If you purchase/upgrade to BPC10, the EPM10 Client is made available as an additional download to complete the package.  In BPC10, the EPM10 Client is used both for reporting as well as for write back to the database for end users.
    A new roadmap with BPC10 and beyond is just being finalized.  Look for announcements around this in the next few weeks.

  • General error in FCP re: rendering and export  after Quicktime 7.5.5 update

    My FCP 6.0.4 rendering and export to Compressor no longer works after an update to Quicktime 7.5.5.
    Rendering fails after a few seconds "General Error!" pops up. Exporting to Compressor, after setting it compressing, Compressor after a few seconds fails. (audio is processed) My current work around is exporting a sequence using Quicktime conversion (time consuming) and then opening in Compressor.
    I've done the usual, deleting prefs, new sequences and projects, even saving movs in different codecs.
    (been using H.264)
    My sequences are all custom sizes but tests using presets also fail.
    Any ideas anyone?
    And I was so happy the Quicktime upgrade could play sequence movs recorded months earlier that until now I couldn't play properly due to previous Quicktime upgrades!

    Well basically since I'm using content already in the H.254 codec (eg: a trailer off the internet, or the downsizing of HD footage) i'm just exporting to a codec that didn't have to be rendered and gave quality results. I used motion jpeg B as an export codec because it was quick (although HD space hungry) with no drop in quality. The resulting exports could be imported into a custom sequence (720 x 405) as square pixel aspect ratio files. Overlapping the canvas with other windows (eg: viewer) meant I could play a clip (with dropped frames) but not have to render it. I selected the H.264 codec as the sequence codec because I've found other codecs introduce darkening or lightening or blurring or other undesirable artefacts when exported to Compressor. H.264 used in the sequence settings exported through Compressor would give resulting m2v's as sharp and contrast accurate as the source file.
    That was until the recent 7.5.5 Quicktime update where attempts to do the same things I did before result in "General Error!" coming up after a few seconds of play or rendering.
    Traditional DV codecs are "blurry" in my opinion, especially when coping with web content or conversion of HD downloads.
    If you can suggest an editing codec that works best with FCP that is quick, doesn't introduce blurring or general degrading of the image I'd be happy to try it out. I typically downsize HD content from the web for DVD playback, so it's usually in a H.264 codec already. So i would need a codec for export from Quicktime that would work best with a codec in FCP. That doesn't alter picture quality when compressed to m2v in Compressor.

    I have exactly the same problem.  iPhone 4S, never been jailbroken.  Not behind a firewall and it happens whether I am on my home compute (iTunes) or directly thru Settings_Update.
    Looks like loads of people are having the same problem - and as far as I can see, Apple's sole reply is jailbreak or behind firewall/ security settings/anti-virus.  None of those apply here!
