Update rule field.

i'm trying to assign a field to my update rule but i keep getting this error.
Field "COMM_STRUCTURE-ZCOSTCODE" is unknown
any idea?

Hey,
   I got the issue. It is due to different data types.
Do type casting before passing it to the target field.
Example :
source_var TYPE CHAR
target_var   TYPE NUMC
Create a temp variable.
temp_var   TYPE NUMC.
Assign the value as follows.
temp_var = source_var.
target_var = temp_var.
This will solve the problem.

Fields missing in Update rules

I am creating snap shot DSO for inventory management and after that i created the update rules for it linking it to the info source 2LIS_03_BX. When i do this i am missing the info objects that i created to include in the DSO. How do i solve this issue as those info objects are very important and i have to create the routines for it.
I have got the units for those fields and they are mapped but the info objects itself are missing.

HI Naveen,
Yes, you can include the missing infoobject in DSO. for that you need to follow bellow steps:
a). Delete the data from DSO.
b). you have to include the infoobject in DSO.
Double click on DSO>select chage mode->select keyfield /data field node--->right click select Infoobject Direct Input.
c). Activate the DSO

The 2LIS_03_BX is used to extract an opening stock balance on a detailed level (material, plant, storage location and so on). At this moment, the opening stock is the operative stock in the source system. "At this moment" is the point in time at which the statistical setup ran for infosource 2LIS_03_BX.Loading the opening stock balance InfoSource 2LIS_03_BX into data target.In the InfoPackage, choose the upload mode u201CCreate opening balanceu201D.

Deleting rows with missing values in field in start routine of update rule

Hello experts,
how can I delet rows with missing values in a specific field in the start routine of update rules?
I think ABAP code should look something like this:
delete ... from DATA_PACKAGE where Z_NO = ''.

Added fields doesn't display in update rules

I added new fields in the infocube and these fields are not getting displayed in left side pane of update rules to apply the logic. Can some one help me in this issue.

I assume you activated the cube once you finished adding the fields...
Close your session, logout of BW and then open it again and check... It has happened to me... One of those things that doesn't make sense...
Another thing would be to delete the update rules and create them again, check that fields show...

Error in update rules when trying to add a field

Hi Gurus,
I would appreciate if u could help me out.
I am trying to add the field Cumulative order quantity in sales unit ( 0CML_OR_QTY) in the update rule of 2LIS_11_VAITM. The field already exists in transfer rule and communication structure. When i am trying to add the field its giving and error message :No routine has been created for InfoObject BP:Business Partner Group (from Hierarchy) (data ield: Cumulative order quantity in sales units).
I have tried to make the BP field as initial value. But still the same error persisted.
Kindly let me know as to how to proceed.

Hi,
Are you creating update rules for a ODS or a cube. If it is an ODS please make sure that none of your Key Fields are referring to the routine.
Now first please add this 0CML_OR_QTY to your data target and activate it. Once you do that you will see that it will automatically come in the update rules and will be not assigned. Now once this is done you can assign the required value

no update and i have no option to change it ,

Hi Rakesh,
select "source chracteristics" radio button and MAP the date field which you have in your infosource though the color will be gray after selecting the radio button but system will allow you to map that field (I mean do not care about gray color).

Need help in assigning date to a field in Update Rule.

Dear all,
I am stuck with a small problem but could´t find a solution. I need to fill a date field (Last Movement date) in the update rules. Currently it is being filled correctly. I need to just enhance the code in ELSE part, that is if i don´t find a relevant date in a look up ODS, i need to assign a future date i.e 99991231.(31.12.9999). When i write the same thing in the ELSE, RESULT = 99991231, the date is not filled. it is showing blank.
Any help would be appreciated.

If you are assigning the value directly, mark it in single quotes.
For example: Result = '99991231'.
This will work.

Field not populating in update rule

Hi Gurus,
I have created an update rule and i assigned some characteristic to the KF in my rule when i load data to test this update rule some fields are not getting populated can any one tell me what will be the reason? the mapping is correct for these fields.

I think you must check your code exactly.It might be that there is some problem there.Also,Make sure that your mapping is perfect for these fields and also check whether everything is availabale in activated version.

Access to unmapped field of ODS in the update rule of CUBE

Hi Gurus,
I have 8 fields in ODS out of which only 5 are mapped to the characteristics in the CUBE. I have to write a start routine in the update rules of the cube. But, I need to access one field, which is in ODS but not mapped to characteristic in the cube.
So, is it possible to use that field in the logic of start routine. Or do I have to create a new characteristic in the CUBE for that 6th field also.

You certaily should insert your infobject field in the cube to populate it. After This you can choose if populate it by direct mapping or by routine.(start routine or transfer routine)
A classic example of start routine to populate infobject from master data
tables : /bi0/pcostcenter.
data : lt_data_package like DATA_PACKAGE occurs 0 with header line,
lt_costcenter like /bi0/pcostcenter occurs 0 with header line.
select * from /bi0/pcostcenter into table lt_costcenter.
lt_data_package[] = DATA_PACKAGE[].
loop at lt_data_package.
read table lt_costcenter with key costcenter = comm_structure-costcenter.
if sy-subrc = 0.

Transformation can't see a field, Update rules can! Why?

I've a problem creating a transformation between 2 ODS:
When I create a transformation system correctly proposes me the schema except for a field: I can't see in source table (but I see it in destination) a Key figure that exists in source ODS and works correctly in update Rules!
I try to explain better: a key fig whose unique difference against other fields is the No AGGREGATION attribute appears in destination fields (ODS B) of transformation but not in source fields (ODS A). The strange is that that keyfig is in data fields of source ODS (ODS A). When i try to create a transformation using that Datastore (ODS A) as destinations I have the same problem: field appears in destination(ODS A) but not in source (ODS C), even if I try to create a transformation looping on same ODS!(ODS A on ODS A) it doesn't appear in source fields.
Any suggestion, SAP Note to read about it???

In the key figure change screen> in the additional propertis tab>uncheck the attribute only option so that it will solve ur problem. u did this operation already...good.

Error while Activating update rule in BW

Hi,
I am getting an ABAP dump while activating an update rule. The rule is from DSO to cube.
"MESSAGE_TYPE_X" " "
"%_T020N1" or "%_T020N1"
"INSTANTIATE"
I have added some new fields in a DSO. The rule is from DSO to cube. While activating it, I am getting this ABAP dump. There are few other rules from this DSO to other DSO which got activated but this one is causing dump.
Any ideas/suggestions on this would be really helpful.

Hi
Check if your Cube , DSO and UR's are active. If not reactivate them. Ideally you could recreate the UR's and check the status by running the extraction.
I would also recommend to use elimination method to check if any particular field is creating an issue. While recreating the UR's , create them for a few fields - active - check extraction - this will also let you know if the issue is within any oif the rules.

Simple creation of Update Rule from BW Data Source

Hi guys,
 Pertaining standard SAP Business Content extractors
 I am referring to InfoCube : 0PA_C01(Headcount and Personnel Actions)
 I am attempting to create an Update Rule from Info Source : 0HR_PA_PA_1(Headcount)
 This Info Source : 0HR_PA_PA_1(Headcount) is connected to BW Data Source(Not R/3!) 0HR_PA_PA_1
 I have created an Info Package for this Info Source and managed to get 15 records{In Contrast to my 68800 Records from Info Source : 0HR_PA_0(Employee)}
 So, when I create an Update Rule to Connect Info Cube: 0PA_C01(Headcount and Personnel Actions) to Info Source to Info Source : 0HR_PA_PA_1(Headcount), I get the following error
ERROR : IC=0PA_C01 IS=0HR_PA_PA_1 error when checking the update rules
Could you please also advice, why do I only get 15 records for Data Source 0HR_PA_PA_1 ?
P/S : I am on BW 3.5

 This Data Source: 0HR_PA_PA_1(Headcount) is tricky to me because it`s a BW Data Source.
 Exact Error Message is as follows :-
"Error Message : RSAU461
 IC=0PA_C01 IS=0HR_PA_PA_1 error when checking the update rules "
 My Exact Problem is that I don`t see any values for the following fields in my Info Cube : 0PA_C01(Headcount and Personnel Actions)
Country;
Country Code;
Gender;
Nationality;
Language;
Postal Code;
Region;
Position;
Job;
Payroll Area;
Payroll Group;
Pay Scale's;
Pay Grade's
This is because, this information is supplied by InfoSource : 0HR_PA_PA_1
But I don`t have an Update Rule for this InfoSource in my InfoCube : 0PA_C01
So, that's why I am attempting to create this additional Update Rule
 And also, could someone enlighten me why would SAP not include such a standard Update Rule when they have already idenfied those needed fields in a Cube ? This is suppose to be a STANDARD workable Business Content right ?
P/S: I have applied Note : 336229

Start Routine in Update Rule

I want to replace all '# ' values showing up in a report with space. For this I plan to write a Start Routine in the Update Rules which should scan all the data coming in into the cube and replace all null or '' with space.
What is the best way to write this routine. It should check all data in all the fields of the data load coming in.

     The space is shown as # in the BW Reports, to confirm check the value in the cube for this field, so
      you need to change that to some other character like X or Y or explain your end users that SAP
      designates a space as # and it will be displayed that way in the reports.

Key Figure missing in update rules

Hi All,
A Key figure is missing in Update rule of ODS & Infocube.
But it is listed in infosource ( comm. & transfer structure) of ODS.
Why it is so . Any suggestions.
infosource->ODS_>infocube.

Hi,
I will give the process that I followed (as you specified) now:
1. I deleted the Source System Assignment for the Infosource.
2. Next went to Source Systems. Right click on source system and replicate it.
3. Select the InfoSoucre and assign the Data Source.
4. Here I automatically got the Field(ZZMBGBTR).
5. I added the field in the Communication Structure. and then assigned the Transfer Rules. Next activated the InfoSource.NExt checked the InfoCube for the KeyFigure. That InfoObject ZQTY is available.
6. I activated the InfoCube. Right Click and select Create Update Rules. Still I didnt got that InfoObject.

DATA Transformation Vs Update Rules ?

Hi guys,
I have a scenerio , where I need to have data from 2 DSOs in to one combined DSO. Lets Says the 2 DSOs as DSO A and DSO B. and the Third as DSO C.
I want to get DSO C Structure as exactly as DSO A. and DSO B structure is only few fiew fields from DSO A (Key Fields are same). I have loaded the data in to DSO A and DSO B using Transformation and DTP . Now How to load DSO C data I mean combined data of DSO A and B.
1.If I create update Rules to DSO C using DSO A and DSO B. Iam not getting any data in to DSO C. (Do I need to make any settings in DSOs to update the data of A and B in to C ?).
2.If I create 2 transformations between DSO A -C and DSO B-C. I am sure I need to create DTPs to get the corresponding data. When I do that Iam getting 2 separate sets of data for DSO C. But I need data as one set from DSO A & B in to C.
Please help me ASAP and let me know if you need more information on it.

I just got confusedwith the requirement. When u r loading from 2 sources (here it is DSO A and DSO B), then obviously u will get 2 rows whne u manage your DSO C.
But, in case u r referring to data, then there should be some commonality between A, B and C, thenonly it will not come as seperate rows in your report.
Can u send the details of DSO A, B and C ?
