Updated to FF 18.0.2, now FF crashes at startup

I updated FF to 18.0.2. Immediately after update FF crashes at startup. FF will run in safe mode.
Crash ID: bp-f138d304-0040-4ac9-b51e-ab8c12130206
Please advise. Thanks.

EDIT LOOKS LIKE ALICE HAS FOUND THE KEY, with the post above.
I do note some of the crash reports show no extensions, but maybe that is a fault with the crash reporting process as you say it runs in safe mode. (The first one you posted is available now and an example with only the default theme shown.)
Your crash signature is rather rare, you may be the only person generating that signature on Firefox 18 at present. Some signatures show thousands or even hundreds of thousands of crashes per week. It is likely to be a problem on your own machine, and you have taken the initial steps in ruling out malware.
We do know it runs in safe mode, so rather than considering malware further, or what the exact cause may be lets just go ahead and try and get it working again retaining as muchdata as possible,
Whilst doing this you may as well do a clean install involving deletion of the program files.
You will need to carefully read all of this ('''Unless a simple reset works''')
* [[Troubleshoot and diagnose Firefox problems#w_5-reinstall-firefox]]_5-reinstall-firefox
*[[Install Firefox on Windows]]
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox
*'''[[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] '''
# I do not like using this particular step. (There are often moreconservative methods of solving problems) but if it may well work and if so saves you a lot of trouble.''' (Note you may loose some preferences ). Ensure you have any extensions home sites etc bookmarked, all extensions will be removed and all open tabs & tab groups.'''
##Use Reset option from safe mode or troubleshooting.
## try Firefox is it fixed now ? if so you just need to get the extensions back. No need to continue with the remaining steps.
# If problems persist <br />Using safe mode or an alternative browser download a suitable fresh copy of Firefox from
#* http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
# Backup the profile and copy it some where safe (such as the desktop) outside firefox program or profile paths.
# Remove the firefox program folder either manually or using the control panel and reinstall the new copy.
#Now copy back some of the old profile files to the new profile in order to restore bookmarks and passwords etc.
Good luck, please post back with how you get on.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start iTunes) then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.

I've got it working now. I followed Apple's instructions here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to completely remove all components of itunes in order. I rebooted after uninstalling and installing even though it doesn't prompt you but i don't know if this made any difference.
When you first connect your device it takes a minute to reinstall the driver software and now it's working. I'm downloading iOS 5 right now.
    Good luck!
P.S. After i upgraded originally i disconnected my device early and the driver install failed, i think this may have been my problem first time round despite trying to uninstall and install the driver after.

  • My Firefox updated about 2 hours ago. Now it crashes everytime I try to open it. Could someone please help me? I am now stuck on IE :(

My Firefox updated about two hours ago. When I tried to open it after the update, it crashed and so I chose to start a new session. Now it won't open and I get a message saying "Firefox has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to this problem... Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." Please help.

Have you tried closing the iTunes store app via the multitasking bar and seeing if it works when you re-open it
Have you tried closing the app via the taskbar ? (I assume that your iPad is on iOS 6, though the version that your tagline shows, 6.1.6, is not a version for iPads) From the home screen (i.e. not with iTunes store app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the iTunes app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't fix it then you could try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • I did IOS 5 update as per onscreen instructions and lost all my data, photos ,music , everything. Thus is the worse experience . Now iTunes crashes on startup.

I use iTunes for my iPhone 4 and iPad 1 . When I did the ios5 update on my iPhone iTunes reported that threvwas a problem , tgatvsone of my data did not get copied . Well none of my data got copied , ios5 got installed ok but I lost all my photos , music , books , apps. What a horrible situation. I cannot get iTunes to run . It crashes after about  45 seconds , reports that something is preventing it from running . I repaired iTunes with a fresh iTunes 10.5 file but to no avail. Oh , and iTunes installed all my apps on my iPhone . Mean apps that were for my iPad and iPod touch. It installed about 300 apps on my iPhone. This is insane . That **** IOS 5 is a ruinous upgrade. What do I do ? I can't sync my iPad any longer no iTunes. I don't know.......

The passcode is defintely doing its job, denying access to your personal info from unauthorised users. The way I look at it is if there was another way to bypass the passcode then whats the point?. You would then have a passcode just for show, that didn't protect anything. Anybody and everybody would have access to all your data.
I understand your frustration in regards to losing data, thats one of the worst things that could happen with devices now days that hold so much information. I do not believe the issue was your fault but your colleagues. In saying that it would have been wise to make frequent iTunes back ups or enable automatic iCloud back ups as that is what they are there for.
As already explained this is a user to user forum, Apple does not comment or review the information. If you believe Apple should have another way to protect their devices or another way around this issue then please provide them with feedback here:

    All the best.

  • Updated iOS 6.1.3 and now gmail crashes

Updated iOS 6.1.3 this morning and now gmail will not work.  Deleted gmail acct and pop works, but when tried to reinstall gmail acct the setup app crashes.  Anyone know anything or has an update? Hello Apple!?!

It happenned the same to me and I have and iPhone 4S. I tried all the suggestions many people suggested and nothing changed. The only thing missed to make it was restore the iphone with the hope I had the same iPhone I bought (I mean with the original iOS).
However for my surprise I got the iPhone I bought but with iOS 6.1.3!!!!!!!!! OMG I couldn't believe it, but when i set up my GMail e-mail accounts all was fine, everything ran OK.
The only bad thing about this was the time I spent making backups of my pictures, files associated with some apps, doing "print screen" to each screen of my apps and the worst was restoring all these pictures, files and the apps in the same order in my restoring iPhone..... in total 6 hours........ dissapointing but I solved the problem.
I hope this solution helps to all of you.

  • Updated to 1.2.1 and now ipod crashes

Last night I finally gave in to the relentless prompting from itunes (7.1.1) to update the software on my ipod (to version 1.2.1). Boy, was that a mistake.
My ipod now no longer works. If crashes within 5 seconds or so of booting up. I have tried the 5Rs but with no success. Is there a way of doing a complete reinstall of the ipod software, either with version 1.2.1 or preferably with an earlier and more stable version?
It appears to be software problem as itunes can sync with the ipod despite the screen being frozen and I can hear plenty of hard disc activity.
I have a long plane flight at the end of the week, and I am not sure I can survive without my ipod!!!!
I should know better than to update for the sake of it, but there is no use in crying over spilt milk. Any help is much appreciated.
PC   Other OS   Vista Home Premium

I have now resolved this problem. Hopefully my explanation may be of use to others. . .
First step is to uninstall itunes 7. This allows you to do an old fashioned software update using an older ipod updater.
Next step is to format your ipod. I mounted it as a disk by forcing it into disk mode (you can find instructions on how to do this quite easily). I then took the precaution of changing the drive letter to something further up the alphabet and finally reformatted. I didn't use the quick format option and the formatting took a couple of hours to complete. Once done I safely removed my ipod from my PC.
I then downloaded the last old style ipod updater (a google search will turn this up for you), and ran the installer. Once installed I restarted my PC.
Almost there. . . I forced my ipod into disk mode again and attached it to my PC. I then ran the ipod updater and as if by magic the hellish 1.2.1 firmware was replaced by 1.1.2 and eveything is working again. Of course I then had to reinstall itunes 7 and resync my music.

  • Just updated to OS X Lion. Chrome now consistently crashes on startup.

How do I fix this? I've noticed other app's having little problems, but Chrome won't start at all. After about 5 seconds, the application just closes and my Mac displays an unexpected quit report. I've tried resetting the Chrome profile and I've tried trashing everything related to Chrome and installing it again, but it still doesn't work. What should I do?

My computer actually fixed itself on accident. My internal hard drive crashed haha! I didn't have a backup because my files arent all that important. After installing a new hard drive, I loaded OS X Lion again. Somehow Chrome worked again.
Maybe you should make a backup of all your files besides Google stuff and reboot your entire system.

I have tried restarting the machine and no dice. I thought of reinstalling itunes from apples site but each time I go there its says congrats on downloading it but will not download a single thing. On the problems downloading its only gives me answers to PC problems.
Do I really have to completely reinstall from my iMac install discs just to get itunes back ?
I dont use time machine as I have a 1T hardrive in my imac and use most of it for itunes, even I cant afford a 1T stand alone hard drive just for backups.

Yes, most times itunes will start now and go to the music section. Music works fine, can listne to songs with no problem. Some times itunes will crash just as soon as I hit the itunes icon but for the last day or so it will go to music with no problems. I can then go to apps and movies with no problems and even watch a movie. But if I click on the TV or book link it will crash.
I check and have no plug-ins in the iTunes folder.
Tried removing the the two items "iTunes folder & com.apple.iTunes" . I removed both to the desktop and restarted the mac. No dice it still crashes as soon as I try to go to the tv or the book link. Will return the two items to the library folder. Error report as follows.

  • I installed the latest version of Firefox last night. It worked 3-4 times flawlessly. Now, it crashes at startup and gives me a box with crash detail report. How can I fix this?

I have a brand new HP dv8t laptop that is straight from the manufacturer 2 days ago.
Last night, I attempted to download and installed the latest version of Firefox. After installing, it worked great for an hour or so (3.4 different sessions).
Then, this morning when I came back to the computer, Firefox crashes at startup and gives me the option of finding a solution online or quitting the program.
    How aggravating!
I have installed this same version on 2 other computers that I own, without any issue.
I have attempted to uninstall Firefox from the dv8 and reinstalling, to no avail.
I cannot find the crash report, but I do this see this message once the app crashes:

Please help! I cant stand iE anymore and I'm so lost without Firefox!

You might try using the add-on 'NoSquint' which allows numerous zoom options specific to each page you visit & keeps your settings - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/nosquint/
If you want to go back to 3.6x, you will find it here:
    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
In most cases you can simply "upgrade" (meaning downgrade) directly from the installation. It would be a good idea to save your passwords & bookmarks just to be on the safe side.

  • Updated iPad2(2011) to iOS8 now iBooks crashes while reading a book. What is going on?

Updated iPad2(2011) to iOS8. Now iBooks crashes while reading a book and closes down. I have sync'd the iPad a few times but nothing changes and it will 'crash' every 5-10 minutes. What is going on?

A better solution. This worked for me and several others, from a post from MrsMike921 in the following thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/26725105#26725105
go to your settings, and first go to Safari and delete your history by scrolling down to "clear history and website data". Then go to the advanced settings and select ""website data". It should show 0 bytes. If not, clear again.
next go to iTunes and App Store in settings, and touch your Apple ID, the select sign out.
AFter you you sign out of your ID, restart your iPad by holding down the power button and home key simultaneously until you see the apple logo after the restart.
when you are powered up, go to iBooks. You should get a message that you need to sign in to sync up your books. Sign in, and that should do it.
