Upgrade 4.6B ECC6 (non unicode)

Hi Experts,
Please guide on what must be done by ABAPer duirng the upgrade from 4.6B to ECC6.0 .
Unicode is NOT enabeld.
1. SPAU/SPDD
2. Do we need to change all Y/Z programs to remove obsolete statements though it is not going to be unicode system.
Please advise the steps.
Thank You.

Hello Uma,
You will have to Work on:
1. Standard Object Adjustments that will be done through the transaction
SPAU
SPDD.
2.Custom dictionary objects will be checked for consistency.
3. For the custom Objects, the changes that need to be done will depend on the scope of the Projects.
usually, syntax errors that have arised due to the upgrade will be taken care. Then, comes the extended Program check (EPC) using the transaction slin or from the menu in SE38.
Replacing FM's, and other EPC errors would be taken care.
4. BDC Programs would be identified and would be checked if the Program flow, screen logic remain the same. If not, a new recording is done and changes incorporated accordingly.

Again, this is a forum where the question are answered on a volunteered basis. "Demanding" help is not the way to go, you can ask for help but there's no guarantee that you'll get an answer. If you urgently need help use the official support channels or get yourself a consultant on-site who can answer all your question instantly.

It's the first entry in every forum, it contains the "Rules of Engagement" which say:
    Please do not Cross post.
Post your question in the most appropriate forum; not multiple forums. This is bad netiquette and will might only aggravate potential repliers.
Just imagine if everyone like you would paste questions in several forums.

  • SAP R/3 4.6 C to ECC 6.0 Upgrade using CU &UC method- Unicode conversion

    Basis Gurus
I am working on upgrade from R/3 4.6C to ECC 6.0.
ECC 6.0 upgrade completed( still in non Unicode).  Now I am in the process of Unicode conversion.
I have used following methods for the upgrade.
    1. Combined Upgrade & Unicode conversion(CU & UC)
    2. Resource minimized( as I am doing it in Sandbox).
As I understand I need to perform the DB export and Import now for the unicode conversion.
According to the Upgrade document, First I need to run Export using R3load in ECC6.0(Non unicode)
and then install Unicode system and import the same data file.
My understanding was, when I choose, Resource minimized, I need to run Export and import
      in the same system.
Can you please help me , whether I need another Unicode system for import ??
    Graham

    Hi,
Dont get confused with upg strategy and unicode conversion.
In general Upgrade strategy (either downtime-minimized/resource minimized)
In unicode conversion you have export/import(exp/imp) of data concept
In CU&UC approach you have to do in a streach to complete migrate from old release to new realease ECC 6.00.
Using database independent (sapinst only) or Using database dependent (migration monitor or Distribution monitor)
It can be done in 2 ways.
If you dont have addtional server for unicode conversion
1)you can either do exp on same hardware and take bakup and do import using the exp dump.
2)Do exp on one server and prepare your target empty database on another server and complete imp of data.
    Hope this is clear.

    Vamshi.

  • Upgrade 4.6C to ECC 6.0; Unicode - non-Unicode -- Unicode

    Hi,
My client has a R/3 4.6c UNICODE, he wants to upgrade to ECC6.0 UNICODE.
According to a SAP document, to upgrade, I upgrade directly to ECC 6.0 NON_UNICODE then convert the system to ECC 6.0 UNICODE.
    I'm wonder why Unicode -> non-Unicode --> Unicode.
    Regards,
    Toan Do

"4.6C is not a unicode system ,ecc6.0 is an unicode system."
Actually, ECC 6.0 only has to be unicode if you are a new installation.  If you are upgrading from a non-unicode system, you can upgrade to a non-unicode ECC 6.0 system, this is fully supported by SAP.
However, it is recommended that you perform the upgrade and unicode conversion at the same time. SAP is going to force us to unicod some day anyway.
We have just completed a technical upgrade from 4.7 to ECC 6 non-unicode, and now we are looking at a unicode conversion project.  It would have added time to the original upgrade project, but it would have been worth it.

  • Upgrade from R/3 4.7 (Kernel 640 non unicode)

    Greetings
In our company we are planning a major upgrade from R/3 Enterprise 4.7 EXT200 (Kernel 640) over Windows 2008 to the latest release available, the thing is i am a little bit confused about what I should suggest since I havenu2019t done much u201Cadvancedu201D stuff besides system copy and ECC installations and some concepts are still unclear to me, like what netweaver means for example.
This is our scenario, we have a R/3 Enterprise 4.7 Ext2.00 (Kernel 640 non unicode) system with Oracle 10.2.0.4 over Windows 2008 SP2 x64 with Microsoft Failover Clustering (DB and App server per separate)
Since thereu2019s no java instance Iu2019m guessing I need to do an upgrade to ECC 6.0 Ehp5 ABAP Only and then do a Java Instance install right?
Whatu2019s the difference between ERP 6.0 EhP5 and Netweaver 7.0 EhP1? Can anyone clear some of this concepts to me?
I thank you in advance for all your kind replies

You need to Upgrade SAP R/3 4.7 to ECC (EHP5 or EHP4) whatever version you would like to go for and Oracle to 11G as oracle 10 has been in extended maintenance support

You don't have to install Java instance, until you have a requirement. If you have other Java system's you can use those systems for ADS and others

  • Post-process after the upgrade to non-Unicode

    Hello all,
    I'm doing a CU&UC and just completed the first part - non-Unicode.
Since it will be followed immediately by a Unicode conversion, do you really need to do all the post-upgrade tasks? And if not, which are the mandatory part?
    Thanks again,
    Terry

You can take the CU&UC Guide..... after upgrade and before unicode it's mandatory to do some steps, aall about unicode preparation.....after do it you can do the export....
    Has you begun this????.

    Alfredo.

  • Upgrade to ECC6 and Unicode: Passing HTML

We are experiencing new issues related output on our Web page URL.
Iu2019d like to convert the internal text table, t_html (now in Unicode-I assume utf-16), to contain the old hex values(I assume utf-8), before the Unicode upgrade. Or, convert the text table from utf-16 to utf-8.
First, and most importantu2026.Is this possible?
If so, I assume these are the steps I need to do, and am asking for suggestions::
step 1) Transform internal table t_html to hex (so I can covert it from utf-16 to utf-8?)
step 2) Convert the utf-16 hex values (Unicode) to utf-8 (old hex, non-unicode).
step 3) Transform the converted t_html back to text so I can pass it out in its usual fashion.
What would be the easiest approach (or not easiest approach, if necessary) to do this?
I am open to any and all suggestions, this has been a struggleu2026.Thank-You

  • Data extraction from Non-Unicode ECC6 to Unicode SAP BI system

    Hi,
We have an existing non-unicode ECC6 system. Currently we are installing SAP BI unicode system. Can anyone tell me are there any issues in data extraction for SAP BI from a non-unicode ECC6 system to an Unicode SAP BI system ?
Please also note that our data consists of Asian (korean, Japanese & Chinese) fonts.

    Hi Des Gallagher,
    Thank you for your reply.
I have gone through the notes suggested by you, but they suggest issues related to BW 3.x versions. We are currently on SAP_BW 700 - SP16. Also, among other notes i found note 510882 which might be helpful for custom developments.
But i am still wondering whether we are going to face major issues related to data extraction from non-unicode ECC6 system to unicode SAP_BW 700 system.
Incase you have any further details, please let me know.
    Thanks in advance.

  • ECC6 Unicode and 4.7 (Non unicode) on the ISERIES V5R4M5

    Hello,
We would like to know if it's possible to have one instance ECC6 Unicode and an other instance 4.7 non unicode on the same server Iseries OS400 DB2 V5R4M5.
    Thanks

In I5/OS you have only one database.
You can install the two instances but install first the 4.7 system and then ECC 6.0 system, install with different <SID> and the database library and kernel library must to be defferent.
I do not recommend this installation because it can bring inconsistencies in both systems

  • Upgrade to non-Unicode complete - can you give it to the functional team?

    Hello all,
Completed the sandbox upgrade to the non-Unicode. The process took a while due to slow, issues, etc. Now the functional team wants to know if rather than waiting for the Unicode conversion - can they use the system?
They only want to evaluate the functionality with their data/customization, minimal testing.
Will that be ok? Also, because its non-Unicode yet, then their ABAP progarms will work even if its not yet Unicode-enabled?
I was thinking of creating a backup, give it to them for a month, then restore the backup and complete the Unicode conversion?
Let me know your thoughts/comments, thanks.
    Terry

    Hi Anil,
The system will be used only for 'evaluation' purposes and will not be connected or transferring data to other systems.
The only reason for doing an uprgade is that the system has some of their own customization and data, as opposed to doing an install.
I also remember that in some occasion, SAP will allow a 'one-week' grace period between the upgrade and the Unicode conversion (if you sign a waiver). But again, this is a pure sandbox.
Let me know your thoughts, thanks again.

  • Native sql not populating correct data in ECC6.0 unicode system

    Hi,
I am working in an upgrade upgrade project from 4.6c to ECC6.0.
4.6c is non-unicode system. ECC6 is Unicode system.
I am facing Native SQL problem in custom developed programe in ECC6.That means programe reading the data from oracle datbase and stored into internal table.
But data not stored as normal character format that means its stored as different character format.
I am suspecting this is due to unicode system. IF that is issue then please provide
what syntax I have to use for Native SQL statment in unicode system.
I have provided the code which we are using in programe.
      data:
        i_locn       type table of t_locn,
        v_locn       like line  of i_locn.
      field-symbols:
        <f_005t>        type t_005t.
    Get existing EIS_VIDEO_LOCN_CONV records
      EXEC SQL.
        OPEN C FOR
          SELECT EIS_LOCN
            FROM VIDADMIN.EIS_VIDEO_LOCN_CONV
      ENDEXEC.
      do.
        EXEC SQL.
          FETCH NEXT C
            INTO :V_LOCN-EIS_LOCN
        ENDEXEC.
        if sy-subrc ne 0.
          exit.
        endif.
        append v_locn to i_locn.
      enddo.
      EXEC SQL.
        CLOSE C
      ENDEXEC.
      sort i_locn.
I am facing the problem in i_locn internal table. Please give me your input to solve this issue.

  • CP850_BIN2 for non unicode systems??

    Hi All
This is possibly a really stupid question and I think I know the answer, but I need some one else to say yes!
We are currently running a SQL upgrade, from 2000 to 2005, for ore ECC6 platform. As part of the upgrade it is recommended that you change the DB collation from SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN to SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2 which allows unicode data to be sorted properly.
My question is, if this enhancement is to correct a unicode issue, will it affect my current non-unicode system if applied. I don't want it to cause any issues if I apply it during the upgrade.
I don't think it will for various reasons, but I am not 100% can anone let me know if I am right, please!
    Thanks in advance!
    Phil

    Hi,
you will have no issues with your current system when you go to BIN2 now (before you upgrade to SQL 2005). And you have to keep in mind, that you have to have BIN2 for all newer releases of SAP. So if you plan to ever upgrade your system to a newer release in some point in time, you should go to BIN2 now, as otherwiese you have to perform a homogenous systemcopy with R/3 (which is not so much fun) if you miss it now. On SQL 2005 you can't change the collation easily, so if you don't have the correct one, you only can change it when you unload the data, drop the DB, create the DB in the correct collation and reload the data.

  • Unicode installation versus none Unicode

    Hello every one:
My system is 4.7 retention 200 nonunicode system. Finally my installation CD's have arrived and I was hopeful I have everything in place. However, As I am starting the upgrade (Prepare phase) it is complaining that my system is not unicode system and prepare shuts down.
I thought I have option for upgrading the system to ECC6 without moving to Unicode. Sure thing when I checked the Master upgrade DVD all the files inside is unicode. Is this mean I have to upgrade to unicode system for ECC6?
Also, I am checking the software download depot, I do not see any upgrade package for none unicode system. Can some one shed some light on this issue?
    Regards,
    KG

Thanks every one for the reply. However, I am not sure if that is freezable in our environment since English is the only language we will be using. Also I found a Q&A regarding Unicode versus none unicode. In this note basically it is saying none unicode version of ERP2005 will be supported.
Can you please answer this question, I have 2 sets of installation CD's, One is netweaver 2004S and the other ERP2005. This is confusing me as which upgrade CD's I should be using?
The only media list I am finding is for netweaver2004S. I undrestand ERP2005 technology is based on  netweaver2004, but why 2 sets of different installation DVD's?
I want to upgrade from 4.7 extention 200 to ECC6, which installation CD's and installation Guides do I use?
    Regards,

Unable to Open unix file in UNICODE system which created in NON-UNICODE system
We have two SAP systems both are ECC6.0 but System 1 is NON-Unicode and System2 is Unicode system.
There is a common unix directory/folder for both system.
Our requirement is to create one file on unix common folder and write the data to file from system1 .
In system2 open the same file for appending mode to write the data .
The file in system 1 created with below sentence.
OPEN DATASET g_unix_file FOR OUTPUT IN TEXT MODE ENCODING UTF-8.
Now I have to append the data from system 2 to same file.
I have tried to used below statement in system 2 to open the file but sy-subrc value comes as '8'.
1> OPEN DATASET g_unix_file FOR APPENDING IN TEXT MODE ENCODING UTF-8.
2>OPEN DATASET g_unix_file FOR APPENDING IN legacy TEXT MODE CODE PAGE

3>OPEN DATASET g_unix_file FOR APPENDING IN TEXT MODE ENCODING Default.
4>OPEN DATASET g_unix_file FOR APPENDING IN TEXT MODE ENCODING NON-UNICODE.
Tried out all the possibilities as per F1 help given for open dataset , but still there is problem with opn file in appending as well output mode. However the file successfully open in Input mode(Read).
Please advice suggestion to resolve this issue.
