Upgrade 8.1.1  wiped all my music. Is it a bug?

After upgrade to 8.1.1 all my music was gone. I tunes could not find it. I managed to get it back thanks to a safety copy on external disc.
Does anybody know if this is a bug and if it has been reported? Are there any actions taken from Apple?
I find this bug very alarming especially for those who don´t have back ups of their music.
maybe it is time for Apple to get back to programming and scrap 8.1.1 until a safer version is launched.

Ditto! I did multiple searches, different methods, and bottom line is the actual music (purchased and ripped from personal CDs)/podcast files don't reside on my computer anymore. Big bummer as I am one of the dummies who wasn't backed up. Quite sad. Before I try and reinstall 8.1.1 and reaquire my "material", it sure would be nice for Apple to tell us what's going on and a suggestion of an alternative cousrse of action. "HELP us Apple!"

  • Hi there, i have just had to restore my ipod to factory settings wiping all my music. how do i download back to my ipod from the computer. thanks

    Hi there,
I have just updated my ipod to the latest upgrade but then had to restore it to the factory settings wiping all my music, could you tell me how to download it from my laptop to the ipod,a m not having much luck figuring it out.
    Many thanks

To synce media from your iTunes library see:
iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod
Unless you restored the iPod on this computer/iTunes library yoo may not be able to sync music and videos using the manual method.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Ipod Update Wiped all my Music!

I updated my Ipod firmware on Friday, and followed all the instructions on screen as usual, then it restarted whilst plugged in - though Itunes said that would happen, and I think it's happened before when I updated. Anyway, I unplugged my Ipod after ejecting it properly, and following all the instructions and when I turned my Ipod on it had completely wiped all my music from it!! Is there anything I can do? Or is this a lost cause?
    Thanks,
    Gareth.

If you have to manage your music in this manner, deleting files out of iTunes, you are leaving yourself open for disaster without backing up which you have now learned the hard way. If you have no backups, files are no longer on your iPod, I'm seriously afraid you are out of luck. Sorry.

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not available in all countries; apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this). Movies available in the USA only. Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later.  Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list, or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.  Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.

  • ITunes Match gone wrong! Wiped all my music!

Just purchased iTunes Match to find that it has wiped all of my non-purchased music from my iPhone! Now all I have left in my phone and cloud is purchased songs! Can I fix this?! What went wrong - I followed the guide!!

Has the initial scan, match and upload process finished in iTunes? If not simply disable iTM on the iPhone, wait for it to complete then re-enable the service on the iPhone and all the music will be available.

  • HELP!!! I just upgraded to 7.6 and all my music is gone!!!

When I open my itunes I can see all my music but when I try to play a song it tells me
"The song can not be used because the orignal file could not be found"
All 40,000 of my songs are gone!!!
    Please help!!!

Same here, I lost all mine as well... this seems to be a common problem, so hopefully Apple will get their butts in gear and fix it.

  • Updating to iOS 6.1.1 and 6.1.2 wiped all my music TWICE

I have an iPhone 4S, 32 GB and have updated the OS a few times since I got it without a hitch.  But when I updated my the OS to 6.1.1 the update seemed to run fine and when it was done I restored from the backup I had done just prior to doing the update.  Everything restored just fine except for my music, none of it was restored to my phone so I had to manually copy it all back onto the phone.  Fortunately I had a couple of playlists that included most of my songs so I didn't have to spend too much time on this but it was annoying none the less since I had never had this problem with any update I had done in the past.
I had the same problem with 6.1.2, the update ran fine the restore ran fine, but again, no music!!  So another 45 minutes lost loading music back onto my phone AGAIN!
I did both updates using iTunes, because I don't trust the OTA updates, they seem to be a common thread among the people that have problems with battery life, Wifi connections, etc. when they do their updates.
Have I been lucky before this, or are other people having the same problem?  And is there a way to make sure it doesn't happen again?

If you update using iTunes the phone is first wiped clean, then the new OS is installed, and finally the backup is restored. After this finishes if you sync your music should be restored. Music is not in the backup, because it is already on your computer and duplicating it would use up a lot of hard disk space.
An OTA update just patches what has changed; it does not disturb content.

  • MacBook wiped all my music apple shop

All myiTunes libary is wiped from MacBook by the store , but is still on my iPad , but won't sync up . Any ideas ?

You've checked to see if the music is still on your Mac, just not in its iTunes library ? By default your library is stored under /Users/username/Music
Not sure what you mean by 'won't sync up', syncing is from a computer to a device, not for copying content from a device.
If not then you should be able to copy iTunes purchased music back via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases, or you might be able to redownload it (if it's still in the store and you haven't moved countries since buying it) via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage, or by going in iTunes > Preferences (command-comma) and on the Store tab ticking the 'show iTunes in the cloud purchases' tickbox (they might then show in the Music part of your library with a cloud against them for redownloading).
For non-iTunes purchases (e.g. music copied from CDs) then there are some programs listed half-way down this page which should be able to copy them back (and they should also be able to copy iTunes purchases back) : Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • I have just changed my computer as my old one died... but now cannot access my old itunes account so i have set up a new one with another email address. how can I sync my ipod to my new computer without wiping all my music ?

I have just tried to sync my ipod to a new computer as my old one died but as I cannot remember my previous log in I created a new itunes account. I now want to sync but it says it will wipe my music off my ipod. Does anyone know how I can do this now ?

If you have purchases on your iPod Shuffle that you want to sync back to iTunes, but are under the Apple ID you no longer have access to, you'll need to reset that account information. You can use this link to reset your password.
    https://iforgot.apple.com/
If that doesn' work or help, you'll need to contact iTunes support and have them walk you through the process of resetting the older account information.  Once you know the email and password again, you can authorize your new computer and transfer any purchases from this account back to iTunes.
For all non-iTunes purchased content, you'll need to the assistance of some sort of third party software that is not supported by Apple. See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

Contact iTunes support, plead your case, and request they add the lost music to your download queue. Be nice, as they are under no obligation to do so:

  • TS2529 my itunes has wiped all my music and when i add it again it does not save them. i can find them in my windows music file, but can't do anything with them. does someone have a solution

I haven't used my itunes for a while. When i went on to download my latest songs everything was missing. so i tried downloading a song, but when i closed down my itunes and turned it back on, it had gone again. does anyone know how to fix this. all my songs are still on my ipod but i want them on my itunes too.

I am having the same problem. I have just tried this. Unplug iphone > open itunes > delete all music from itunes library > close itunes > re-open itunes > add music from original folder > plug in iphone > select songs > press sync > unplug iphone using eject button onscreen > checked phone .... still nothing in music folder on phone. On itunes the "On this iphone" tab the songs remain there but greyed out.

  • I tried to sync my itouch and I wiped all the music out, since it was a laptop, not my original computer. Is there a way I can restore the music, or how do I resync it?

Please help me restore music, to my touch, or resync to an old computer

If all the items are on the old computer, simply connect the iPod to that computer and restore from backup.

  • Back up ipod before ios upgrade, but i still lost all apps, music, ect

before I downloaded the IOS upgrade I backed up my ipod touch. After the upgrade I tried to restore, but nothing is showing on my ipod. Is there any way to get my stuff back?

Just sync the items back from your iTunes library. If they were not in the iTunes library on the computer onwhich you you did the updae the itesm are gone.  The apps themselves andmusic and some other things are not in the backup that iTunes makes.  They are synced from the iTunes library at the end of the update.
If you are in the USA you can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
You can always redownloaf apps at no additional cost as long as you are signed into the iTunes account that originally purchased the apps.
For music you only get one download (without iCloud) andit is up to you to back it up.
