Upgrade BI content

We are undertaking a new buildout phase of our BI warehouse, in which we will be installing new standard content datasources. Our BI_CONT level is 7.02 patch 3. It has not been upgraded since it was first installed in early 2006. We are at NW support pack stack 16 and BI support pack 18, so we have the minimum requirements for a much higher BI_CONT level.
What is the SAP's best practice for when the BI_CONT component should be ugraded? How will affect standard content that has been enhanced, but not renamed? Can you give an estimated time window for how long an average upgrade takes? Is there any type of outcome report to tell us what has changed?

First of all, when should a company consider upgrading its BI_CONT module?
Normally, when the new functionality has come like (take 0FIGL only before it was not Delta enabled but now 0FI_GL_4 comes along with Delta Time Stamp and as well the Group Functionality Like 0FI_AP/AR/TAX_4 the four Data Sources are send to the BI Side with group and as well as individual update Data as these are interdependent on each other)
To fetch the data in the short time frame we may always need enhanced Technical / functional Upgrades.
To compete the market analysis may needed on hourly basis data for which the earlier versions they dont have real time data acquisition Now with NWs 2004 it is available for some DS.
So based we can conclude that to fetch the data in short span of time with new functional/technical help they go for Upgradation.

Secondly, we just finished an ECC and BW support package upgrade. From what I have read the BI content does not need to be done at the same time as long as the NW support package stack has the minimum BW support packages needed. Was your time estimate for an entire upgrade including ECC and BW or just for a BI_CONT upgrade? If I am separating these, when they should not be separated, please let me know.
Yes, It is not mandatory to go for upgradation for ECC and Nws at same time. ECC and BW can be estimated at Same time you may need at least 60 days time to fetch the upgraded functionality/technicality into BI Side. because lot of patches/notes and enhancements to be done on BI side too after the ECC upgradtion (Hope you know it is safe to stop delta mechanism while upgrading ECC) . Once again it is difficult to estimate time though normally ECC will take 5-6 Months time to upgrade, as far my knowledge goes.

sounds like the database ran out of log space. did you fill the drive? does the database's log file have a hard limit?

Installing Logic 8 plus 9 upgrade plus content on OS10.7.4

I have previously successfully installed - on two Macs running 10.5.8 - my boxed Logic 8 with all the content disks plus the 9 upgrades to 9.1.7.
However, my new studio Mac runs OS 10.7.4 (has to run 10.7.4 because it also runs Pro Tools 10)
The question is:
- How do I install Logic onto a 10.7.4 machine - including all the content (loops etc.) - with a boxed Logic 8 and downloaded 9 (and download upgrades to 9.1.7 and now to 9.1.8)...?

I can't give you a perfect answer on this one, but I'm dealing with a similar issue in upgrading from LP7 to LP9. EXS and Garageband instruments are organized differently in 9 from how they were in 7. This did lead to duplicate files in some cases, where an instrument had been added to the new location and remained in the old location as well. So whether or not you have duplicates probably depends on whether or not there were any folder/organization changes from LP8 to 9. I've read that this isn't as much an issue, but I don't know the specifics.

Still missing content after 9.1.6 "upgrade" and content re-installs

I updated to 9.1.6 and immediately I noticed that various .aif files were missing, from my ESX24 instruments and Garageband loops.
After reading other peoples' similar stories and solutions here, I spent some hours (and probably $$ for all the bandwidth) downloading and re-installing "Garageband content" (which showed needed updating) as well as the "Essential" and "Additional" Logic content packages (which were supposedly already installed).
After downloading about 7GB of stuff, I am still missing content, .aif files which are part of ESX24 instruments and Garageband loops.
I guess I'll continue downloading and re-installing the rest of the Jam Pack content -- about another 10GB -- and hope that I get that stuff back. No guarantees though, I suppose.
Apple, this happened to me once before, when I upgraded from Logic Studio 8 to 9. It's really, really maddening.

You'll need to either manually copy over the old content, or download the media packs after you install the 9.0 version. In the Application menu, select "Download additional content...". However, do NOT click the "Select All Uninstalled" and instead download each part separately. A bit of added work, but selecting "Select all uninstalled"is giving people fits in that you end up with a lot of "Download Failed" messages and nothing installs.

OS Upgrade on Content Server

Hi,
We are using Content Server 6.30 Installed on Linux 3EL, DMS Installed on ECC6 system.
We are using StorageType=FSS(File System Storage) on Content Server.
Now We are planning to Upgrade OS on Content Server.
Now Issue is I searched in PAM for suitable OS for our current content server but there I found for MAXdb and SAP db but not for storage type FSS.
Please suggest for which OS release we should go for our Content Server OS Upgrade and do we need to do anything after Upgrade for our storage(FSS) after Upgrade.

Hi Shivam,
you just need to make sure that your operating system version that you want to upgrade to is supported for the version of Content Server that you are using.
You don't have to do anything from the file system side after the upgrade.
I'd also recommend that you use the latest version of the Content Server - version 6.40. As you have an existing version; you just need to install the latest content server patches to upgrade to this 6.40 version of the Content Server.

ORA-00955 when upgrading from Content Server 5.0.2 to Publisher?

I am upgrading Content Server 5.0.2 to Publisher.
After running the sw installation and having imported the publisher.pte file, I am starting the Publisher and receiving an Oracle error "ORA-00955: name is already used by an existing object". From the messages logged, it looks like the error is encountered when recreating the object PCSACTIVE.PK_PCSACTIVE (first SQL statement with "Recreating ...", all others before where "Adding ...".
My questions:
1. has somebody else encounteered the same error?
2. does anybody know how to trap the SQL being executed?As the upgrade is done automatically by the Publisher when starting, I have found so far no way of checking the SQL or knowing which SQL statements are executed against the DB) when "Recreating" an object.

P.S. Customer Support has also been contacted, but it looks like noone else has reported this kind of problems.

Pl post OS details - are you using DBUA to upgrade ? Are there any errors in the database alert log ?

Upgrading Sharepoint Content Database from 2008R2 sql server to SQL Server 2012

I am doing an upgrade of SharePoint 2010 to 2013.
What is the best way for the SharePoint database in 2008 to upgrade to 2012.
attaching just the backup of content database should work or there is some other considerations as well along with.
Are there any known issues while upgrading the SharePoint database from 2008 to 2012.
this is not an in place upgrade.

If I may continue this question. I am upgrading MSSQL 2008 to MSSQL 2012. This box contains all of the DBs for our Sharepoint installation. I am not a Sharepoint admin, I am a DBA. So let me get this straight , from what I read up above all I
have to do is just go through the standard procedure of upgrading SQL server 2008 to 2012 and the sharepoint DBs will upgrade with it w/o an issue. Are there any gotchas with SSRS?
My SQL box runs WIN 2008 and has all necessary MSoft updates.

"Site is in a partially provisioned state" when attaching/upgrading SHP2010 content DB in SHP2013

I'm testing out upgrading our Sharepoint 2010 farm to Sharepoint 2013.
Fortunately for me we have very few specialties in our farm, very straight forward.
But when setting up the new MySites, when I add one of the old content databases (and so far only for this one!) it starts spitting out a few (20 or so) messages about peoples "sites is in a partially provisioned state". The site still works fine
after upgrade but I don't like having errors like this so I digged deeper.
Googling didn't help, I only found an article about Sharepoint Online so that wasn't a big help.
But looking into the details in the ULS for these jobs I see the following critical message:
"Unknown SQL Exception 15151 occurred. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below.  Cannot alter the role 'SPDataAccess', because it does not exist or you do not have permission."
I like that error message because at first it seems pretty clear. But unfortunately I'm doing this all with a farm account that is sysadmin on the entire SQL instance, so permissions aren't a problem. But as far as I can see there is no SPDataAccess role
on either this instance or the "old" one where this database came from!
I thought about messing in the SQL when I remembered an old quote from my Sharepoint 2010 instructor - "the second you go and edit the SQL yourself you're on your own" so I stopped there.
Any suggestions? A "ignore this error" is pretty much useless since I don't a choice in the matter, but I still want to know what the hell is up with this error?

Ok now I've tested this out in a new DEV environment.
Scenario
- Manually installed Sharepoint 2013 binaries
- Manually updated with March 2013 PU
- Manually updated with December 2013 CU
- Ran AutoSPInstaller to install Sharepoint, it setup User Profile, MySite with temp database and a temporary site.
- Through Powershell attached Sharepoint 2010 mysites databases to the MySite application. Regardless of what permission I set up in Central Admin -> Service App -> User Profile Service -> Administrators (like Waqas Sarwar described) or in SQL I
still get the error messages "Site is in a partially provisioned state" for 20 or so users (out of appx 1000). There just doesn't seem to be anything to do about that error??
- When browsing the temporary site and clicking follow I got the "Something went wrong. Sorry, we couldn't follow the site. Technical Details - InternalError : Could not follow the item" message. To solve this error I had to give the Application Pool account
running "temporary site" SPDataAccess-role to MySite content database where the current users MySite was located. I'm really not making that up, it's 100% reproducable in my environment!

Upgrade BI Content Level 0000 to 0008

Hi,
I have posted this to BI with no responses so I'm posting here in hopes some Basis person might be able to help.
We currently have BI Content BI_CONT 7.03 0000 (Level 0). I would like to have the latest Business Content Level for Statistics.
Can anyone tell me how long of a process this is for basis? Is it just loading the content and a restart?
I have been told by my basis guys my system would be down for a day?
Can anyone add some comments to this?

The machine must not be taken down but people need to stop working because they may run programs (or parts of it) that will be (ex)changed during the patch application.

To transport the content it needs to be installed on all machines.

Upgrade SharePoint Content Types / Site Columns declaratively in SharePoint hosted apps

Hi!
I have a question where I was unable to find any official guidance for. I have created a SharePoint hosted APP where I have multiple site columns and content types (declared in XML). The APP installs and functions just fine.
Now I have a requirement to change a site column (Choice field, just add some more choice values). I was able to update the site column but the changes will not be reflected on the list column (I think because there no way to push the changes).
So is there an "official" way of changing site columns?

Mine did ( 6 to 7.0 ), pdf and print. You can DL the manuals from Apple for free. Otherwise, I know of no option to buy only the manual, though there are supplemental Apple instruction guides.

Classic web app for upgrading sp2010 content site doesn't authenticate

I have run the following powershell in 2013 to create a classic web app so i can upgrade my 2010 databases and then i would run the convert command to convert them but i have a problem i cannot get to the site i have created, i have pinged the site and it
resolves, i get a username and password when i type the address in, but unable to log on, and i cannot figure out which account i should be using, as i have tried the wepapps account but doesn't authenticate

Hi,
You can go to Central Administration -> Application Management -> Manage Web Applications.
Select your Web Application, and click "User Policy" in the ribbon.
Add any account there. Use this account to access your web application.
If you are using an FQDN for your Web Application (for instance:
http://sharepoint.yourdomain.com) and you are trying to access it on your SharePoint server, you will get a blank page after logging in 3 times.
This is caused by the Loopback Check security feature from Microsoft. To disable it, run the following PowerShell code:

BI Content Upgrade Question

I am sure that I will get answer to my question.
We are currently on Add on Package BI Content 3.5.2 on SAP Netweaver04.
As per SAP Recommendation if we are going for BW 3.5 SP19
then we should have BI Content 3.5.3.
We need to know that when we upgrade BI Content 3.5.3 from BI Content 3.5.2 ->>>>> will it overwrite all existing BW objects including standard SAP delivered objects(Infoobjects,Infosurces,ODS, Infocubes etc). These existing SAP delivered BW objects are enhanced or modified by us in our BW system.
As per my understanding UNLESS I install new business content using RSA1-> Business Content the existing old content BW objects should not be overwritten by new content version.
Please help with your inputs.

According to the course material provided by SAP, you have to compare the Business Content objects with the existing objects in the A version.
1. You can change objects that were transferred from the Business Content, since only the derived A version and not the Business Content version of the objects will be changed.
2. Not all objects can be compared
3. If you do not compare the objects, the new version is transferred (copied) and the (old) A version overwritten when you activate the Business Content.

Upgrade Content Server and Site Studio

Hello Everyone,
We are trying to upgrade both Content Server and Site Studio from 7.1 / 7.2.1 to
10gR3
1) Instead of updating existing instance we Installed new 10gR3 instance
Exported folder structure archive, layout files and data files from old instance
2) Imported into new 10gR3 instance.
3) Tried to upgrade sitestudio websites
4) Its created a project file but not adding any SiteStudio section properties
(ex. primaryURL, secondaryURL, IncludeSectionInNavigation etc.), if I open the site in
designer, it shows just blank site structure without any templates associated and all sections are disabled.
Any ideas on this??

If you are displaying the data from spaces only then all the operations like creating a web content , editing it etc can be done from Webcenter spaces itself .
