Upgrading from SB Live! 24 Bit.... Suggestio

Hello:?I currently am running a SB Li've! 24-Bit to a Logitech Z-5500 speaker set. The Li've 24-Bit is a recent purchase and still within the no-penalty return time period (at least I hope). I found out from my first post here that it is sometimes better to use digital and sometimes analog. The trouble is that in order to switchbetween the two, a couple of steps were required. For Analog -> Speaker Settings -> Uncheck Digital Output Only -> EAX + CMSS enabled, Speaker Input switch to DirectFor Digital -> Speaker Settings -> Check Digital Output Only, Speaker Input switch to?Digital Coaxial. I find that kind of cumbersome. The original?post is here, scroll down a couple of posts to find reference to thishttp://forums.creative.com/creativel...ssage.id=52255?The Li've! 24 Bit was about $30.00 and like I said in the thread, I'd like to know whether there is a better sound card that someone may perhaps suggest that, like pjc suggested in that thread, will not require me to switch the settings back and forth when I move from one task to another (e.g. auto mute the analog when digital is detected, vice versa)?and still within reasonable price. I'm not looking into the likes of the X-Fi's series because of the obvious price tags for those, so the next best ones will be the Audigy family. I saw two today at a local Best Buy. Audigy 2 Value (about $70) ?and an Audigy 4 (about $80). While not knowing what the interface will look like for the either of them, I would like to know whether either of these can fit the bill? Or neither?I'd like to keep the budget low, but I am still open to suggestions, but preferably before this Sunday (Feb. 26) as that might be the last day I could get the Li've! 24-Bit returned. Thanks a bunch!Message Edited by Shohoku79 on 02-23-2006:47 PM

    Hi claire.winteringham,
If you have a 64 bit machine then there shouldn't be any problem while installing any 32-bit software.
Try to download it with the below mentioned link :

  • Upgrading from 32 to 64 bit

    Today was an interesting day.
I looked at archlinux.org. I saw the warning about KMS and nvidia. I thought "that doesn't apply to me" and proceeded to upgrade. Then I rebooted and all was not well. The screen went black just after udev started. So I played around a bit. I booted a livecd and looked for hints to no avail.
Then I remember the usb stick with the latest archlinux image and thought "Aha. I'll use that to replace the kernel and other possibly screwed up bits." So I did that (after playing with chroot and mkinitcpio for a while). Then I had more problems. I didn't even get the blank screen.
It turns out that the image was the 64bit one and my computer had been running 32 bit. So rather than do the obvious and download a new 32bit image or do install 64bit from scratch I continued installing the 64bit packages over the top of the old one. Then I rebooted and it worked but only programs from the base install. Everything else complained about the elfs. So, to cut a long story short, I got pacman to replace every program with the 64bit version and now everything is working perfectly (so far) and is set up exactly as it was this morning (before the upgrade).
Anyway the point of this is that it is possible to upgrade from 32bit to 64bit but I wouldn't recommend it
(I wouldn't have bothered if I hadn't been eyeing 64bit for the larger long doubles)
oh and for the curious I think that the reason i had the initial problem was that I had nouveau installed even though I wasn't using it so all I actually needed to do was remove nouveau but I only discovered that when trying the 64bit with nouveau. Whoops

The simplest way to upgrade from 32 to 64 bit is to reinstall your arch, in the hope you have a /home partition. Using a 64 bit version of arch since day 1 of my install and no problem at all on it. Ok, just this crappy flash

  • After upgrading from Vista 64 64 bit to Window7 64bit the DVD stopped working

After upgrading from Vista 64 64 bit to Window7 64bit the DVD at first worked just fine but after about 7 months it just stopped responding as if the hardware as in the DVD Dive it compatible with Windows 7. I have reinstalled the full Windows 7 that I got from HP but it still has the same problem and when I try a full recovery it  will start to read the recovery DVD but it take way to long like 15 mins just to start reading and it stops reading with error's after about 2 min's into it.
Were is the errors that I get
This PC in not supported by the system recovery disc. you will not be able to continue to recover this system with these disks.
keep in mind that the problem lies with the DVD drive not working and like stated above it will work if Windows Vista 64 is installed so this error message is not the key to the problem just part of it.

I have Windows 7 32 bit. Recognizing I can't upgrade to 64 bit and over write the 32 bit system my question
I have multiple SSD. My existing winn7 occupies C:\
Can I install the new windows 8.1 64 bit on a separate drive and then rename it to the C:\ drive
    or
Should I disable the existing win 7 root drive. Go through the boot process of starting Win8.1 in the CD, having it designate C:\ etc and continue the install. Then re-connect (if I need too) the other SSD for the data files
Or, should I shut up and let you advise me the best way to convert to Windows 8.1 64 bit with an existing Windows 7 32 bit :)

  • Can I upgrade from Lightroom 3/32 bit to Lightroom 5/64 bit?

I'm considering the purchase of an ASUS Republic of Gamers laptop using a Windows 7/64 bit OS with 16 gig of ram.  So far my research tells me a 32 bit program running on a 64 bit OS will be limited to, I think it was the use of no more than 4 gig of ram.  Therefore there seems no sense in using my current version of lightroom (v 3.6) since I would not be able to take advantage of the greatly increased ram.  can I upgrade from Lightroom 3.6/32 bit to Lightroom 5/64 bit?

    Yes, you can.
Installation software for Lightroom for Windows normally comes with both a 32 bit and a 64 bit installer packet. This means you can also, without upgrading install the 3.6 64 Bit version.

  • Upgrading from windows xp 32 bit to windows 7 64 bit

to get to the install menu for windows 7 i restarted on the OS X side and booted from the windows 7 install disc. the problem is that the install requires many restarts. the first time i did it i assumed it would just go back to the windows 7 installation screen and resume what it was doing, but it didn't - it just started in OS X. so i restarted and booted from the disc again hoping it would resume where it left off, but again it didn't.

I could be wrong, but I don't think you can upgrade from XP to 7, you would need to buy a full retail copy.  If you can find a Vista with a free windows 7 upgrade, I would do that.
Having said that, your PD 820 supports 64 bit, so I would recommend doing that.  The retail copy of Windows 7 will come with both 32 and 64 bit.  It seems to be the time that most programs are being built for x64 archetecture, so you might as well get on board.  you may not see the benefits yet, but in a few years you may.
I'll say, I ran 32 bit vista, had a bunch of issues with it, switched to 64 bit and its ran flawlessly.

If you need some assistance with Win7, drivers or Toshiba specific stuff installation you are welcome.
Just for your info: install order is very important so let us know when you want to install Win7. We can help you with right installation order.
Before you install Win7 create recovery DVD. After Win7 installation you will lose HDD recovery image and possibility to install Vista using HDD recovery installation.
How to do this is described in Users manuals document.

  • Upgrading from Windows 7 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit

    Hello,
I'm running on Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit now and I'm thinking of upgrading to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit ( I have the Windows 7 Ultimate CDs ). When I say upgrade, I'm aware that I actually need to clean install the 64 bit OS.
I want to know when I install Windows 64 bit by putting its DVD, will I need to activate Windows once again ? Like I did when I installed Windows for the first time on my PC.
But here's the problem actually, I bought this Windows 7 back in India when I was there and I installed the 32 bit OS there ( hence activated in India itself, after all, it's said that the activation much be done in India. )
But now, I'm in France, I moved here and I'm actually needing a 64 bit OS. So, installing the Windows 64 bit with this DVD, will it or not require activation ?
Because if it doesn't, it shouldn't be any problem and I could install it right ?
But if it does, I wouldn't be able to activate as I'm not in India anymore right ? If so, is there any other way or anything that could be done ?
I hope I was clear enough with the issue here, thanks for your help!

    Hi,
I agreed with Rid Dee. As we consider to do a clean install of a 64bit Windows 7, we need to activate the OS after the installiation.
In addition, for license issue, we may make a contact to
Microsoft license support team, or we might consider ask in the forum below:

  • Upgrade from SB Live! Va

For an audio program I was advised to upgrade my SB Li've!, but I was not told to what.
My soundfonts etc work with SB Li've, so whatever I chose must be backward compatible. The new soundboard must not
necessary be the utmost newest, but certainly should be an definite improvement. Also economics is an issue too.
Could you recommend an upgrade board. Again: backward compatibility is a MUST.

the new titanium soundcard is the best bang for your buck.. unless you purchase the elite pro.

  • Windows 7 32-bit Upgraded from Windows Vista

    Hello Everyone
I have a Satellite A500-15M, with a Windows 7 32-bit running on it which was upgraded from Windows Vista 32-bit by an upgrade DVD from Toshiba sent to me in January.
I need to have my Windows 7 as 64-bit instead of 32-bit. I have been searching on the internet about this matter, and I have discovered that I cannot do this unless I have a fresh copy of Windows, but the only disks that I have are the Windows Vista RECOVERY DVDs, and the Windows 7 Upgrade DVD.
Is it possible to have a fresh copy of Windows Vista 64-bit from my Revocery DVDs, then upgrade to Windows 7? Or do I need a Windows 64-Bit DVD?
    I really appreciate your cooperation.
    Kind Regards,
    Ala'

    Hello
According notebook specification your notebook was delivered with Vista 32bit and 64bit dual boot.
If you have created recovery discs it will be interesting to know how many DVD disc you have.
For instance on my Satellite A500-157 I have 4 DVD discs. With other words I have recovery discs for 32 and 64bit Vista. When you start first DVD you will be asked which version you want to install.
Please check if this works with your recovery discs too.
If you have this option install Vista 64bit on your notebook and later use upgrade DVD and try to upgrade it to Win7 64bit.
Please test it and let me know if this works for you.
Depending on your answer we will search next solution for you.

  • X 200 fan noise after upgrading to windows 7 32 bit

last month iv'e upgraded from win vista 32 bit to win 7 32 bit, ever since (that day exactly!)  i did that i'm facing a lot more fan noise then before the upgrade, noise that bothers me.
it seems like the fan is starting to work more often then before, and besides that it never goes into idle but continue to work all the, regardless of the load on the computer.
until now iv'e tried to update anything possible (including bios) , i have reinstalled the win 7 with a clean install (the first time i used the update option) and again updated everything possible, that didn't solve the problem.
iv'e also tried to change the power manger options regarding the fan and cooling policy. the only thing that made any change is the "reduce noise dynamically" but that option also changes the overall performence of my system,so that's not a solution for me.
iv'e also read in a couple of places that turning down the wifi or access connection helped someone, but not for...
any ideas what to do next?

i've got the same problem. upgraded from a silent windows xp to windows 7, and there's the noise.
have you found any solution to tune it down?
    thanks and best regards,

  • Can I upgrade from Vista 32 bit to Win 7 64 bit on hp pavillion d4790y?

I have 2 gig ram, but really need to speed it up to 8 gig. I'd like to also get win 7 for the desktop. Before I get any of this, I need to know since my current OS is 32 bit but 64 bit capable, if I install windows 7 64 bit will it upgrade from 32 to 64? And then will the 8 gb RAM actually work if I purchase that as well? Will I run into any problems the hardware inside (processors or motherboard (intel core 2 cpu [email protected] ghz))? I don't understand 32 bit to 64 bit conversions... Thanks
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi:
Yes, your hardware is 64 bit capable.
You can install 4 x 2GB of PC2-6400 memory for best memory performance and capacity (8 GB).
You cannot do an in-place upgrade of any 32 bit OS to a 64 bit OS.
You will need to back up all your files, gather any program installation disks/files you want to reinstall on the 64 bit OS, and do what is known as a custom or clean install of Windows 7.
If you live in the USA or Canada, this is the memory I recommend for your PC once you bring it to a 64 bit OS:
