Upgrading from xppro, sp 3 to win 7 pro

hi,
my x201 thinkpad came with xppro installed, at my request; now, i want to upgrade to win 7 pro. Lenovo supplied the win 7 discs with this machine. here's the issue, which makes me feel that i made a bad choice in systems
i had thought that win 7 could be installed over xp, and that would be that. but the recovery discs sure don't say so.
the discs are labeled "operating system recovery disc," which lenov says will restore the operating system "to start the recovery process" in which all data on the hard drive "will be deleted." [i know i can creat recovery disks for xp, and copy files to an external hard drive.]
my x201 is a 32-bit system, 300 mg hard drive and 4 gigs of memory, of which only 3.? are used
i'd appreciate advice on this.
thanx!

What EXACTLY is the question?

  • Re: Yoga 2 Pro - upgrade from 8.1 to 8.1 pro

A little off topic, but hope you guys can help.
Seems our Yogas are pre-installed with Win 8.1. I need 8.1 pro for powershell and hyper-v.
If I tell it to upgrade, it asks me for £99.99.
So the price to upgrade from 8.1 to 8.1 pro is £100, but to upgrade to 8.1 pro from any other operating system (XP, VIsta or win 7 basic, pro, enterprise, whatever) is £45.
    This is rediculous.
The only way I can see to do it is to wipe the computer, intall XP using an old key I have kicking about, then buy a 8.1 pro upgrade.
    Anyone got any other ideas?

  • After upgrading from acrobat 9.5 to XI pro my users have complained on slow typing when filling in form that were created in version 9.5?

After upgrading from acrobat 9.5 to XI pro my users have complained on slow typing when filling in form that were created in version 9.5?
The issue is they type but there is 2 second delay when it appears in the field.
    Windows 7 64bit

I see, I misread your reference to Reader 11 to mean you were using Acrobat 11, but it looks like it worked out anyway.
The base-14 fonts are special in PDF because they are guaranteed to be available even if they are not embedded. If you select a non-base-14 font for use with a form field, the entire font usually gets embedded, since each glyph it contains has to be available for use with the field. This can take up a lot of space if you do this a lot, and the space isn't reduced if you change back to a base-14 font later because the internal reference to it is not removed. This is caused by the bug I mentioned.
In your case, however, the entire font doesn't get embedded because fonts like it (e.g., large asian fonts with a lot of glyphs, Arial Unicode) would take up too much space if fully embedded. If it did, a 100KB PDF could bloat to 20MB with that one change. Instead, users are expected to have such fonts installed on their system, which is why you were prompted to install the font pack. This despite the fact that the font was not actually used by anything in your document, it was simply the orphaned reference to it that triggered this. This should get fixed in Acrobat eventually so this type of thing doesn't happen again.

You can write to Apple with the serial number and they can tell you exactly when your MacPro (as opposed to Mac Book Pro) was manufactured.
And in the Apple menu > about this Mac >  more info > there should be sufficient detail to narrow it down.
EDIT.  These are the specs for the      April 2007 version.

To confirm, al songs are already in your iTunes library of current computer, and they all play using iTunes (on the computer)?

  • How To: Upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7 pro

I upgrades from windows 7 home to windows 7 pro.
I could not use the anytime upgrade option, so I did a full install
I had a problem that I notice is common for many people, I came up missing drivers for my lan and wifi cards among others, I followed the advice given to others, and found chipset drivers and a few others, however, I had loaded some drivers already, so I am coming up missing the ntwork controler and the usb 2.0 crw. I am also missing the drivers for the camera, and special functions on the key board. I believe that the first step I need to take is to throw away some drivers and reinstall the chiipset drivers and others I have read recommended. However, I don't know what to throw out.

If you ask for help here, it's generally best to respond in less than a week to someone who's offered to help you. But, let's assume you were very tied up or away.
Regardless, your model's specifications clearly show that your system originally came with Windows 7 Home Premium, and that it came out in 2013. So, it's difficult to understand why you are upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7. Oh, wait, I see your thread title says from Windows XP to Windows 7 pro, but in the text of your original post it says from Win7 Home to Win7 Pro. Again, this is a little confusing.
Regardless, as it's safe to assume you have already wiped out your Toshiba Recovery Partition in doing a clean install of Win 7 Pro. So, let's just try this. Download this Toshiba utility, double click to begin installation.

  • Can I upgrade from Vista 32 bit to Win 7 64 bit on hp pavillion d4790y?

I have 2 gig ram, but really need to speed it up to 8 gig. I'd like to also get win 7 for the desktop. Before I get any of this, I need to know since my current OS is 32 bit but 64 bit capable, if I install windows 7 64 bit will it upgrade from 32 to 64? And then will the 8 gb RAM actually work if I purchase that as well? Will I run into any problems the hardware inside (processors or motherboard (intel core 2 cpu [email protected] ghz))? I don't understand 32 bit to 64 bit conversions... Thanks
    This question was solved.

    Hi:
Yes, your hardware is 64 bit capable.
You can install 4 x 2GB of PC2-6400 memory for best memory performance and capacity (8 GB).
You cannot do an in-place upgrade of any 32 bit OS to a 64 bit OS.
You will need to back up all your files, gather any program installation disks/files you want to reinstall on the 64 bit OS, and do what is known as a custom or clean install of Windows 7.
If you live in the USA or Canada, this is the memory I recommend for your PC once you bring it to a 64 bit OS:

  • Upgrade from NT to XP on Satellite Pro 4600

is there any chance to upgrade from NT to XP, or can i just install any bootable XP version on my 4600? or does a special XP version for satellite pro 4600 with all the required drivers exist???

    Hi!
I don't know anything about some SPECIAL version of WinXP for yr notebook, but it is possible just upgrade yr NT upto XP. Besides, WinXP has very powerful drivers database, which covers most of devices. There is only one "but": some special features (functional buttons) can be not available.

  • Upgrade from xp 32-bit to win 7 pro 64-bit

How can i get my bootcamp partition to upgrade to windows 7.
What i have to do is restart windows and start the win 7 installer when win xp isnt booted.

I have successfully installed windows 7 and am posting from it now. Just two issues thought that i need some help with. So on the side of my mbp there is a headphone socket; it has a red light shinning out of it. Also the speaker volume on the macbook itself is like 1/4 the normal max sound. Since they are both audio im thinking they are related. I inserted my snow leopard disc and installed all drivers and the issue persists. I also tried inserting headphone in and out to see if the light would shut off but it didn't. Anyhow is there a fix for these issues?

  • Cannot install upgrade from Acrobat XI Standard to XI Pro

I have uninstalled Standard, downloaded upgrade per Tech help, and when I click on .exe file it brings up a pop-up for Standard Installation. Any help?

Are you running Windows? It's possible that some of the files part of the previously installed Acrobat XI Standard have been left behind on your system, causing this issue.
Adobe has made a tool available that helps you cleanup failed or partial uninstalled of Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat versions – it's for standalone installs.  Hopefully running this tool on your system prior to trying to run the Acrobat XI Pro install
The tool is available from Adobe Labs: Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool
If this doesn't work, let us know some more details:
What operating system are you running? (Win 7, Win 8, Mac OS X 10.10.x etc).

  • Calendars and event data lost in mountain lion upgrade from snow leopard on mac book pro

I just upgraded to mountain lion today. It appears my contacts and emails were transferred without loss to the new system but all of my calendar data and the calendars themselves have disappeared. Does anyone know how I can get my old calendars and event data back? I backed up my laptop on time machine before doing the upgrade, so my old calendars should be on my external hard drive. I'd like to simple recover the data from the laptop if it is just hidden somewhere. Alternatively, if someone could tell me how to import the backed up calendars back in that might be a good plan B. I also still have the old calendars on my iphone which I am afraid to sync for fear of data loss.
I looked through previous responses in the community to this same question and I tried deleting the account and adding it back in but that did not work. Any assistance would be appreciated. Apple support is giving me an cold shoulder that is rather unexpected given my past good experience with Apple support. Bummin out over here

Which way do you reinstall OSX?
I would go through the recovery partition, check Disk there and then run the installer. make sure you have a reliable connection the the Internet.
This could be a third party app you have running in the background that is crashing. what exactly is crashing ?
    are you getting kernel Panics?
You are not able to simply roll back to Snow Leopard, you will have to have a SL disk, and then erase and install SL onto you hdd/ssd. This will erase ALL of your data so I hope you have a Time Machine backup or bootable clone.
I believe your issue is with a third party application installed.
    More information is needed.

On a personal note, I think you are missing out on ML and need to figure out if there is an application running that is causing ML to crash.
Usually a reinstall fixes my issues.

  • Need advice on upgrade from Snowleopard to Lion on MacBk Pro (15" late 2008)

I want to be able to synch my calendar on new iPhone, home MacBook Pro and office PC (with MS Office)... and I think I have figured out that I need to get Lion on my Mac instead of Snow Leopard.  Are there things I need to do to make this upgrade actually work?  I am a big user, but not so much a smart Mac user... kind of new to it.. advice appreciated.  pitfalls or suggestions... any reasons not to do it?

    Sara MacApple wrote:
So, do you have any advice about how I can synch my MacBookPro calendar with my iPhone?
Apple has incorporated features like that into iCloud, then restricted that to only users of 10.7 Lion as  leverage. They won't allow iCloud on 10.6 because people wouldn't upgrade. 10.6 runs a lot of expensive previously purchased software that there isn't a upgrade out yet. If people install Lion anyway on older hardware it slows most machines down and that encourages them to buy a new Mac prematurely. So you see what's going on here.
Apple changes stuff way too fast, then they quickly burn their bridges and previous users  behind them in the process. For instance, Apple doesn't support 10.5 at all anymore with security and stabilty updates, and that's a mere 4 year old OS X version.
Not to praise Microsoft, but they do support 10 year old XP still, 5 year old Vista and Windows 7 is going to be supported for at least 10 years or even longer. Windows 8 is going to run Windows 7 software too. So with Windows PC you can run your hardware until it drops dead, buy your software once every 10 years.
Apple has this crazy notion that we all should be replacing our hardware and expensive software on a 3 year basis. When in reality properly taken care of Mac hardware can last a decade easily, I have a XP friend who's Dell desktop is over 10 years old and still works fine.
If your a luxury consumer and just use your Mac for the basics,  can keep up with the 3-4 year expensive hardware and software changes, then buy all means buy a new Mac with Lion and get iCloud and then sync to your iPhone. Use the old Mac as backup for software that isn't ready for 10.7 yet.
If your more a Pro and/or conservative user, perhaps have a heavy investment in software, your machine is working perfectly, have a more longterm objective, then you should consider forgoing the new OS X features until third party software has released Lion compatible versions/updates and then make a decision to upgrade hardware and software at the same time so your workflow continues with the least disturbance.
Apple prefers to cater to the luxury consumer more than the "Pro" market because the luxury consumer can be leveraged to buy hardware on a faster upgrade cycle. The Pro user is trying to make money and therefore thinks more longterm to extract value out of their purchases.
I know this is a long winded answer, but since your machine is 4 years old and Lion will be slow on it, require opening up the machine to install RAM and replace all your software, you might as well buy a new machine to get the feature you want. If your not prepared to buy a new machine, then forgo it and learn to live without the new feature, your machine could last another 4 years easy and by then there might be no more computers, just all tablets or something, because Apple is ALWAYS changing.
If you take a serious look at Lion, you'll realize it's a transitional OSX version, to what exactly and what form of new hardware it will run on (perhaps even Apple's own processors) is a mystery. So Iv'e decided to stay on 10.6 for all the software choices, printers works just fine to, even on my new 2011 Mac and just wait it out and not thrown several thousand dollars away in a mere 3 years for no reason. When Apple gets to wherever they are going and settles down, the software industry catches up, by then my hardware will likely be ready for a upgrade, if I don't like waht Apple is doing, then I will switch to a alternative. But I won't be lead around on a leash and my wallet abused by Apple any longer, they need to grow up and act like a mature computer products company and quit dropping support for older OS X versions.
