Upgrading Phones Question?

As of now I'm on a family plan with my mom, and I'll be able to upgrade my phone pretty soon. So here's my question; Does it cost anything to upgrade phones. I want to upgrade my Samsung Rouge to a HTC Thunderbolt, but I seen that the Thunderbolt is like $250 with a 2 year contract(which is what we have). I was just wondering if I would have to pay all of that or just some of it or what?

When your upgrade date comes up, you would pay $249 for the TB and have a new  year agreement. If you do not already have an unlimited data plan you will need to add that for $29.99/month.

  • Upgrade phone for someone else

I'm looking to purchase a smartphone for someone for Christmas.  She is eligible for a "new every two" phone, but we are not on the same plan.  My question is, would I have to pay the full retail price for this phone if she is going to renew and upgrade her plan when she activates it?  Or, can I somehow still purchase it at the "2 yr contract" discounted price?

    - Take a "surprise" trip to the Verizon store to buy it.
Exactly what my kids did for me for Mother's Day when they got me my new (now ready for upgrade)  phone.  Somehow they had it all activated and paid for and all I did was sign the paperwork (as I'm the account owner) and walk out of the store with my new phone.
A gift certificate would work just as well - some people do prefer to handle the details on their account on their own...

  • Do you have activate a upgrade phone, if you do not want to use it?

I have upgraded my line, but I want to keep the phone I currently have. I was going to sell the upgrade phone I bought a Glaxay S3. The question, is do I have to actiavte on my line, or does it have a clean ESN in the box? Can anyone activate it, or do I have to activate and then deactivate the phone first? Any help would be appreacated. Thanks alot.

What exactly are you asking??? If you asking if it still needs to be activated, yes.
Will you lose your unlimited data, yes.
Give me a better idea on what you are wanting to know

  • How can I save my photos from my camera roll, my photo stream on the icloud so that I don't lose my photos if I upgrade phone or just because I need space and I don't want to delete or lose pictures.

Can I save my camera roll pics, my photo stream pics from my iphone 5 into icloud so I don't lose pics if I upgrade phone or because I need space

    No.
iCloud isn't a file storage service.
You can backup your camera roll but you can only restore the entire roll to the device.
Backup your photos to your computer.

  • PC Suite Upgrade : Phone (N70) not supported

    Hi
Just upgraded to latest version of PC Suite and have hit problems. Prior to upgrade phone and PC were connecting fine with no problems.
Now when establishing connection between phone and PC receive following message :'PC Suite does not support the connected phone. PC Suite settings file is missing from the the phone. Switch off your phone, switch it on, and try again.' The phone then appears to connect but none of the PC Suite offers are available, presumably as the phone is not being supported. Switching the phone off/on makes no difference.
No other changes to the phone have occurred since the connection was ok, the only change is upgrade of PC Suite.
I am running Windows XP SP2, PC Suite 6.81.13.0, connecting via cable or Bluetooth yields same result, using N70 on Vodafone firmware V 5.0609.2.0.1 01-03-06 RM-84.
Have tried completely uninstalling PC Suite and reinstalling to no avail. Wondered if I needed to upgrade the N70 firmware and attempted to use the new Software Updater but this crashed.
Quite frankly I haven't got time to mess around trying all sorts of things so any help would be much appreciated.

Hi - I have not experienced this problem before but there are things you can check to rule out certain possible causes.
From what I can remember when you upgrade PC Suite, there's an element of it which it installs onto the phone - was that done successfully ?
Also - it isn't 100% clear from your message, but I presume you're attempting to connect to PC Suite via Bluetooth - does your PC->Bluetooth work OK with other devices ?
If not this indicates you have a Bluetooth centred problem.
Next thing to check - can you connect your phone to your PC using the USB cable ? If so then this also points to a Bluetooth problem.
The fact that the software updater crashed is not a good thing - the update can only be done via USB and not Bluetooth - what message do you get when you try to do the Software Updater ?
If it's a Bluetooth centred issue, then make sure you redo the syncing process - it's wizard driven so should be quite easy to do.
    Hope this helps.
Let me know how you get on.Message Edited by edwardquan on 23-Aug-2006

  • Payment Plan for  Upgrade Phones

I think Verizon should have a payment plan for new upgrade phones.  I have been a long time Verizon customer and in years past when my plan would come up for a replacement phone I always choose one of the top phones and upgraded for about $50.   In today's time, due to Technology, to upgrade to say an I Phone runs around $300 by the time you get tax (CA), new charger- home and car as well as a hands free device.   To pay that Big amount the next month on my bill is the reason I am holding back getting one and I want the best because new phones are always coming out and we will have a better ones and the focus is everything going mobile.  If I could split that total into 2 payments, it would be a lot easier for me and I would be at the store tomorrow buying one.  I think Verizon should do this  because they would increase their phones sales immediately.  No Other Phone Company is doing this and they could pick up new customers from companies that do not offer this.  First to the Marketplace to do this has BIG Value.
In this Economy, Verizon could create a way to increase their sales and  a sense of Goodwill to help the consumer at the same time...Novel Idea!!!!!!

Pay for the phones and service up front or use a credit card (as SydneyK suggested) ...Verizon isn't going to finance the phone purchase. They are in the business of providing wireless service, not financing equipment purchases.
I can imagine prices would go up if they ever WERE to do this, since I'm sure there would be defaults that the rest of us would cover with increased rates. No, thanks...

  • Why doesn't Verizon abide by the 4-day hold on In-store pick-up for an upgraded phone?

I upgraded my device online and opted for in-store pickup.  They showed me stores that had the phone I wanted in stock.  I selected the store I wanted to pick it up from and they said they hold the phone for 4 days.  I go to that store the day I made the Order and they tell me they do not actually have the phone in stock and couldn't tell me when the next shipment will come in.  They actually told me to go to an Apple store instead.  So I did that.  Then I'm at the APple store and it's not taking my log in information on my verizon account even though it worked when signed into the account from my phone. Apple people told me it's an issue with Verizon, not Apple. Still have not gotten my upgraded phone.

        Hi ilzostue,
Oh my! We are so excited to hear that you are interested in upgrading your line. The upgrade process should be easy, and I apologize that this is not happening. Which make/model iPhone are you interested in purchasing? You can also order the device online here http://bit.ly/nD0WuY .

  • Need help with question about upgrading phone

Okay, so, here's what's going on:
I currently have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus on Verizon.
It's dying/freezing/battery life is terrible. Looking to upgrade.
I don't have an upgrade available for my line, but my wife does.
She's giving me permission to use hers, which a Verizon rep told me is fine.
I want to use her upgrade to get a Samsung Galaxy Note II.
The best price (subsidized) right now is on Dell's site ($169.99), which I could price-match at Best Buy (employee confirmed this). However, it's still a little high for me.
I could get a better price by adding a line with this device - shave off $40 ($129.99).
So here's my question: is there any way to add a line, get some immediate savings on the purchase, then immediately cancel the line (maybe only taking a little bit of a hit, getting most of the cost reimbursed for not using it)? In other words, how can I get this phone as cheap as possible?
    Thanks for your suggestions!

If you add a line as you suggest, that new line will come with a 2 year (24 month) contract for service that will have a $350 Early Termination Fee (ETF) if you cancel the line immediately like you indicated.  There goes the thought of getting the Note II for the cheaper than the upgrade price.
I recommend going with the price match upgrade @ $169.99 at Best Buy.  I can confirm they do the price match.  I bought my last phone from Best Buy and they matched the Radio Shack price I brought them and  I had a good experience.
    Good luck.

  • Make sure you go with an elderly family member or friend when they upgrade phones!!!

Please make sure the elderly do not go alone. It doesn't matter to Best Buy how people are treated, just take their money.
    My Letter to customer service:
Good morning, Yesterday my husband and I went to your East Houston store at Wallisville and Beltway 8.It was time to upgrade our phones. Your website ad had a Samsung S5 for $1.00 with a 2 year contract. When we got to the store and asked the sales rep about it she informed us that Best Buy did not do upgrades any longer. We had to buy the phone on installment billing or lease one. We were very suspicious, that did not match your ad or the mail from Sprint. We went to your store in Baybrook (a 45 mile round trip). The sales rep there did our upgrade. She was very nice, informative and patient with us. The sales rep at the Wallisville store LIED to us. I feel that she was trying to take advantage of two elderly people. We are old yes, but not senile or stupid. Is this how Best Buy treats its senior customers? Just tell them anything, they don't know any better, they will fall for anything. I feel that this is elderly abuse. Your company and that store should be ashamed !
    Their reply:
Thank you for contacting Best Buy Mobile Back Office. My name is Cynthia, and I will be more than happy to assist you today. I would like to extend our apologies for any inconvenience this experience has caused you. I assure you this is not the type of experience we want our customers to have when shopping at Best Buy.
We strive to make each experience you have with us positive and as fun as possible, and we are disappointed if we don't live up to that expectation. We always rely on feedback, both positive and negative, to help us find areas for improvement. At Best Buy, we understand the importance of good service, as well as how frustrating poor service can be. I apologize for the experience that you encountered in one of our stores.
Please be informed that I have escalated this issue on your behalf. The resolution of this escalation may be many things up to and including contacting the store leadership. Typically, with these types of issues, we will not receive any type of feedback on the resolution.
Thank you so much for reaching out with Best Buy. Hopefully, this has answered all of your questions. If you need additional information feel free to respond to this e-mail, or call Best Buy Mobile 1-888-237-8289, between the hours of 6 AM - 12 AM CT.
May reach the store leadership? I am so very pleased that the store MAY be informed of this issue. I'm sure the employee was doing what she had been trained/told to do to keep her job. My question is it just the store we went to or is it a Best Buy policy? From the email I received it seems to be company policy.

    Hi there vieuxjen,
Welcome to the forum and thank you for choosing to upgrade with us! It is discouraging to hear you may not have had the experience you had hoped for or expected at our East Houston, TX store. I hope that I’m able to clarify our upgrade capabilities for you.
Leasing and installment billing options are certainly becoming the more popular option, but it isn’t everyone’s preferred option. It certainly seems there may have been some misinformation provided by the associate you spoke with at the East Houston, TX store. It is true that in some cases we are unable to provide the 2-year agreement option. This would typically be when a customer intends on receiving a new phone number while opening a new account with a carrier on a 2-year agreement. If you either have a current line of service with the carrier or intend on porting your current number from another carrier, we should still be able to provide you with an upgrade or new account with a 2-year agreement. I apologize for any misinformation that you may have been provided.
I can certainly understand why you would be disappointed with the initial response you received as well, if you were unsure whether this issue would actually be addressed. I’m glad to advise you that at this time your experience has been brought to the East Houston, TX store’s attention so they may address this concern to ensure we are providing accurate information to customers. Please also know that I am noting your experience on my end as well.
I am glad that you were able to have a much more pleasant experience at our Baybrook, TX location and should now be enjoying your new phones. If you should have any other questions, please let me know.
    Respectfully,

  • Uprading Phone questions to a confused person?

So um I'm going to upgrade my phone in about a week. My contract was previously set from the LG EnV 3 but I lost that one so I had my mom's old phone and I was still able to keep that contract. Anyway, I have several questions regarding upgrading my phone. I tried contacting the verizon wireless store from the information given from the "Contact Us" on this website but it didn't work for some reason.
Anyway, my first question is how much will the verizon company give for an upgrade? I've been hearing it's anywhere from $25 to $100. Next week, my two year contract will end so does that mean I'm going to get $100, and hopefully not just $25, for my upgrade?
Next, I heard in some droid forum that if you're contract is expired and you are getting an upgrade after or when your contract expires, you get an extra $50 off of whatever you're buying? Is this true?
Third, I have a $50 giftcard to bestbuy. Can I use this giftcard to buy a droid phone (Incredible or X2 or something like that) from bestbuy and still have the same coverage and data plan or whatever?
Yeah I got my LG EnV 3 as a surprise present and they handle the monthly payments and all the stuff so I'm new to all of this.

Next week, my two year contract will end so does that mean I'm going to get $100, and hopefully not just $25, for my upgrade? This depends on a few things. The credit you're referring to is called the NE2 discount. This discount only applies to the primary line on the account, and the price depends on your calling plan and the last time you signed a contract. This program was done away with in January of this year, so if you DO have any left to use, it will be your last one. If you log on to My Verizon (you must be the account owner) it will show you how much of a discount you have to use, or you can call Customer Service. This credit does expire 6 months after you become eligible (so, 6 months AFTER your 20 month point of your contract is fulfilled)
Next, I heard in some droid forum that if you're contract is expired and you are getting an upgrade after or when your contract expires, you get an extra $50 off of whatever you're buying? Is this true? This is the same thing as the credit I spoke of above. Verizon doesn't "give you" anything for an upgrade - just the NE2 credit if you're eligible.
Third, I have a $50 giftcard to bestbuy. Can I use this giftcard to buy a droid phone (Incredible or X2 or something like that) from bestbuy and still have the same coverage and data plan or whatever? 3rd party retailers often have their own contracts and return/exchange policies, as well as warranties and insurance. Just be sure to read everything very carefully and know what you're signing up for. 3rd party retailers do not honor NE2 credits - those can only be redeemed through Verizon. Remember, if you choose to go with Best Buy and you do in fact have an NE2 credit on your line - you will lose that for good.
Yeah I got my LG EnV 3 as a surprise present and they handle the monthly payments and all the stuff so I'm new to all of this.
Also please remember that since you're upgrading to a smartphone from a feature phone, you'll have to add one of the new tiered data plans. If you had a data plan on your EnV3, it will not be grandfathered in due to it being a feature phone.

  • HAS ANYONE EVERY HEARD OF A UPGRADED PHONE WITH LESS PERKS !!!

i RECENTLY PURCHASED (2) TWO DROID X2 PHONES FROM THE SOUTH BEND, INDIANA VERIZON STORE ON IRELAND RD. THERE SHOULD BE A NOTE THAT SAYS BUYER BEWARE WE ARE PAID ON COMMISSION AND TELL YOU THAT IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY EVEN IF IT WAS A RAINFALL OR BLIZZARD OUTSIDE AS LONG AS THEY GOT YOUR ATTENTION.  AFTER OVER 1-HOUR CHECKING OUT PHONES AND ASKING QUESTIONS I DECIDED I REALLY LIKED THE DROID X2 WITH ALL THE WHISTLES AND BELLS AND THE 4G NETWORK "THAT WAS BEING UPGRADED IN THIS AREA", AFTER SPENDING ALMOST $500.00 AND TICKLED PINK WITH WHAT I WAS TOLD ABOUT THIS FABULOUS PHONE, WELL GUESS WHAT,  FIRST WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD SINC TO MY 08 FORD FUSION STEREO, "DONT WORK" YOU HAVE GOT TO HAVE A CERTAIN STEREO, SECOND, MY WONDERFUL 4G PHONE IS NOT A 4G PHONE AFTER-ALL IT IS A 3G PHONE !!! AND IT IS NOT GOING TO BE UPDATED TO 4G, WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD THINK THAT YOU WOULD SELL A NEWER VERSION OF PHONE WITH LESS PERKS, THE DROID X IS 4G BUT THE DROID X2 IS NOT !! DO THEY CARE THAT THE SALES REP MIS-LED YOU "no no no no" YOU HAVE THE PHONE THEY HAVE YOUR MONEY AND YOU ARE SCREWED FOR 2-YEARS MIND YOU THAT IS $126.00 A MONTH PER PHONE !! WOW, AND IT DON'T DO WHAT YOU WAS TOLD IT WOULD, GO TO THE MANAGER AND THEY CALL YOU A LIAR THAT THERE SALES REP WOULD NEVER SAY A 3G PHONE WAS 4G ~~ I GUESS SALES REPRESENTATIVES CAN NOT MIX-UP THEIR PHONES ON ACCIDENT OR ON PURPOSE, I WOULD SAY IT WAS A INNOCENT MISTAKE ON THE REPS PART, HOWEVER WHEN YOU ADDRESS IT WITH THE MANAGER THEY TELL YOU YOUR STUCK WITH THE PHONE BECAUSE IT WAS AFTER THE 14 DAYS RETURN POLICY ... WELL HELLO WHEN THEY SAY THEY ARE UPGRADING THE TOWERS YOU TEND TO BE A LITTLE LENIENT AND HOPE IT HAPPENS AS SOON AS THEY CAN, I WOULD RATHER WAIT A MONTH THEN TO SEE THEM RUSH AND SCREW IT UP ... BUT NO MORE ... THIS IS MY LAST CONTRACT WITH VERIZON IF I EVEN CONTINUE IT FOR THE TWO YEARS I AM THINKING ABOUT PAYING THE EARLY TERMINATION FEE'S WHICH BY THE WAY IS 325.00 PER LINE SO SUCKED OUT OF ANOTHER 650.00 BUT AT LEAST I WILL NOT BE PAYING 240 PLUS A MONTH FOR SOMETHING THAT IS NOT WHAT THEY SAID AND DOES NOT WORK FOR THE PURPOSE OF BUYING A 4G PHONE ~~ I HAVE ALWAYS HAD FAITH WITH VERIZON BECAUSE AT ONE TIME THEY CARED AND WAS THE BEST FROM NORTH, SOUTH , EAST AND WEST ~~~ NOT NO MORE ~~~ THEY ARE JUST LIKE THE REST REAL YOU IN GET YOU TO SIGN A CONTRACT AND FORGET ABOUT YOU UNTIL YOU DON'T PAY YOUR BILL !!!!! ANYONE ELSE EVER HAD THIS PROBLEM IF SO WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU ... I PERSONALLY AM CONTACTING THE BBB AND LODGING A COMPLAINT AS IF THAT WILL DO ANY GOOD BUT AT LEAST I GET SATISFACTION OF KNOWING THEY ARE NOT WALKING AWAY FROM ME WITHOUT A MARK ON THEIR FACE, NOW I WANT TO SEE IF THEY EVEN HAVE ENOUGH GULL TO POST THIS SO WHERE OTHERS CAN SEE AND READ THIS !!!

After spending so much time looking at phones, did you not notice that SOME phones have 4G on the description and others DID NOT? The X2 was one of the phones that DID NOT have 4G on the description. I would have taken that as a hint.
Second, the Droid X is NOT a 4G phone. It is 3G just like the X2.
YES, the X2 has the capability to sync to the radio in the Ford Fusion. NO, not all trim levels of the Ford Fusion. When you bought your car, you were aware that it came in different trim levels, didn't you? Did you think that ALL trim levels had the same features? Did the sales rep go out and see your car? If not, how could you possibly think that the sales rep knew what trim level you had?
You say that it is possible the sales rep could have been accidentaly gotten the 4G phones mixed up when he said the X2 was 4G. Well after spending so much time looking at different phones, some of which I am sure WERE 4G phones, I would think it is ALSO possible YOU could have gotten the 4G phones mixed up.
And to finish off, bad news about the ETF. It starts at $350, not $325 for you each of your phones. Good news, though, is that it drops $10 for each month of your service you complete.

  • Do I have to activate the upgraded phone if I go upgrade at the Verizon store?

All of the lines in my family shared plan are eligible for an upgrade right now (2 smartphone lines and 2 dumbphone/voice only lines).  i want to keep the phones i am currently using on ALL 4 lines.  I know you have to activate your phone if you upgrade via online and that is how the customer accepts the terms and conditions.  my question is:
    1. can i go to the store and upgrade all 4 lines to, for example, the samsung galaxy s4 and get the 2 year contract price @ $200 each (totalling $800) WITHOUT opening the box?
    2. i know data plan is required for smartphones, so if i get the data plan for the dumb phone for the upgrade, and after the upgrade, i deactivate the smartphone and move the number back onto the dumbphone, will i incurr a charge for having a data plan for the few minutes it takes up upgrade the phone?
    3. instead of moving phone numbers back and forth from used phones to new phones and back onto the used phones, can i just go to the store and tell the customer rep to renew my contract term for 2 years and sell me the 4 smartphones for $200 each?
Thanks in advance for your help!

I would love help and provide clarity ShaggyPod! Yes, you can visit a store location and upgrade all 4 lines without activating the devices. A 2 year contract will be accepted prior and an "activate later" will be selected for the lines of service. It depends what plan you are on to give accurate information about data plan changes. However, you will be charged for the day(s) the plan was changed. If you would like more information specific to your account please visit a store location or accept my follow request, follow me and send me a direct message with your mobile number. Thank you.

  • Paying termination fee and upgrading phone

My wife has an old nondata phone with a contract expiring in a few months and is willing to pay the termination fee and enter into a new 2-year contract on an IPhone 5s.  Two questions.
    1.  The manager of the Verizon store looked on his computer and insisted the termination fee would be $175.  I think it should be $175 minus $5 for each completed month of the contract, which is much less.  I know from the web site that this is the rule for a "post pay" contract, but I'm not sure what that means.  The contract is a normal two year unlimited calling contract with each month's fee paid in advance.  When I questioned the $175 termination fee, the manager said that this was what his computer said and he was not willing to discuss the issue.  Who is right?
    2.  Aside from the termination fee, when we told the manager we wanted to terminate the old contract and enter into a new one on a new phone, the manager started muttering something about how this could be prohibited "churning".  He couldn't explain what that meant, especially after I pointed out that we could just pay the termination fee and then go over to AT&T and enter into a new contract with them.  This is not desirable because we would lose the benefits of our share everything plan.  Is there a rule against terminating and upgrading in this way?  The web site does not let you do it online.

        Hey there michael1000,
The iPhone 5s is a great phone so I absolutely understand your eagerness to get your hands on one.
When you upgrade at the discounted pricing you are agreeing to a new two year agreement. If you disconnect before the agreement end date you are billed a early termination fee. The Early Termination Fee for a basic phone starts at $175 and decreases $5 for each month completed. The Early Termination Fee for a smartphone starts at $350 and decreases $10 for each month completed.
We wouldn't want you to disconnect your line, lose your number and have to start all over. Let's take a look at available options to make this as easy as possible.
When is your wife's upgrade date exactly? Dial #UPG from her cellphone to find out.

  • Upgrading phone but keeping existing T-Mobile plan

I have a 3 year old iPhone 4s which has reached the end of its lifespan and am looking at upgrading to an unlocked iPhone 6. I realise that the SIM card will not fit as I need a nano size; my question is should I request a new SIM am I going to lose my current T-Mobile pay monthly tarrif?I am on what was called the 'Full monty' plan where I have unlimited voice/text and 3G data, my concern is if I request an updated SIM then I shall be migrated to an EE sim card and lose my current plan - costing me more than I currently pay.Anyone got any advice on this? Thanks!

    Hi ,
You can request a new size SIM card without changing the plan, this will continue on the new SIM.
The only way you would lose this is if you upgraded to EE to get the new phone.
    Order a new SIM here.
    Thanks.
