Upgrading system and having to use WDM driv

<SPAN>This is a problem I have had on a number of systems:<SPAN>
<SPAN>
<SPAN>Either we are upgrading the sound card or we have replaced the motherboard, which includes upgrading the sound card. What happens many if not all the time is that we have to upgrade the OS or reinstall the drivers on the Windows 98/ME/2000/XP machine we have. Wiping the system and starting over is not always an option. Most of the sound cards we are installing are PCI28/PCI6 and some li've cards.
<SPAN>
<SPAN> What happens is the drivers install, all seems well, but no sound. Device manager says the card is working great and all things should be happy, but no sound. Look in the control panel under speaker & sound, multi-media etc there are no devices for the sound, nothing. Put in a modem with a voice controller and the system might show it, but not the sound card. If I get the luxury and can wipe the system the new card will work wonderfully. Usually this problem occurs in Windows 98/ME but sometimes in others.
<SPAN>
<SPAN>I have tried the clean sweep method but I get to: Click Start, Run and then Browse. Browse to Z:\Audio\Drivers\CTZAPXX.EXE, where Z represents the CD Rom Dri've. and I can not find ctzap anywhere on the disk.
<SPAN>
<SPAN>I use to be able to fix this problem by getting the vxd files for the old SB6 cards and they would work, but I can't seem to find any anymore, and the WDM files do not seem to work. I will note that this problem seems to follow with AC97 cards (CMedia, SIS, and others.). We prefer the SB cards and would prefer to use them, though we have tried others in a desperate attempt to get things to work.

Have you disabled (BIOS) the onboard sound codec (AC'97) before installing SB's?

iTunes is a mess! It couldn't find it's own libraries and I was forced to create a new one. Now I don't know where my music is or if any's missing.

    How crap is that?
    It's not crap at all.
It's not that simple. For example, I've 3500 songs on my MacBook but don't want them all on my phone, so I have to manually select each song again???
There has to be a solution.
Why not simply make a playlist with the songs you want on the iPhone?
and maintain a current backup of your computer.

  • Upgrade BIOS and drivers have possibly corrupted drive. OS will not boot.

    Model: Toshiba P505-8980
    Part Number: P6PG0U-005002
OS:  Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (upgraded from Home Premium)
    6 gig RAM, 500gig HD
    Actions:
I haven't started up my computer in a while.  First I installed the critical and optional updates (3 total) from windows update, rebooted, and Toshiba Service Center popped up and said that there was the BIOS 3.10 update and the HDD/SSD Alert update.  Through the Service Center I downloaded and installed the BIOS update, at the end it seemed as if there was an error.  I rebooted the computer and everything seemed ok, so I downloaded the HDD/SSD update through the Service Center.  Upon rebooting the drive would not boot.  (Screen remained blank with a blinking cursor and HDD light was not on.)  There are no accessories/USB devices/drives attached.  After a reboot I checked the BIOS and it recognizes the Hard drive, I restored all settings in BIOS to default and rebooted.  The computer started receiving stop errors (blue screen) and stuck in a reboot loop.  I entered the BIOS, restored default settings again and rebooted, I could get to safe mode and it would receive stop errors trying to load disk.sys file.  I also tried last known good configuration and that wouldn't work either.  After a while the laptop was able for me to select to try and repair the disk using the repair utility.  It reported that there may be partition errors (on the last step of recovery) and I selected to repartition the drive to factory default with the Toshiba repair tools.  It got to about 98-99% and received errors at the end.  I tried using a Windows disk to reinstall the OS, but it reported it couldn't install on any of the drive partitions because of an error in the boot configurations.  After trying to repair again it doesn't report any disks or partitions.  Currently after booting it reports now that there is an error that occurred while attempting to read boot configuration.  File: \Boot\BCD|Status: 0xc000000f.  Guessing that the boot sector got corrupted.  After reading that BIOS isn't recommended to be installed while in windows, I'm wondering if using the service center messed something up.
Question 1:  Any recommended actions to take now?  No recovery disk available
Question 2:  Is there a way to configure the service center to download a BIOS update and be able to save it instead of only being able to install it within windows and the service center?
    Thanks in Advance!

I was able to get into system recovery.  This system recovery was different then the first one I came across.  Underneath the Command Prompt option there was a selection for a Toshiba based restore.  That is the one I tried that failed at 98-99%  This system recovery just has the standard options.  At first it showed me the original OS of Home Premium (recovered).  I tried to repair the Home Premium and it still wouldn't work.  "Startup could not repair the problem".  On the many tries the probelms were either "Failed Installation" or "Partition Table".  Then when I tried loading the OS it would blue screen and reboot repeatedly.  So I loaded up Windows 7 Professional from a different CD to at least get the OS working.  I tried Repairing but that didn't work with the same errors, and it also reported that there was no system image on the disk.  I did a Custom (fresh) install and had all items copied to Windows.Old folder.  So now I have an OS, BUT I can't activate it now even with the keys that I have from the old version because it said the key was only used for upgrade, not clean installs.  So now I'm left with trying to find a way to get the original Home Premium image so I can load that and then upgrade since I have the keys I need.  I tried doing repairs again, this time it showed me two Windows 7 Professional and one Windows 7 Home Premium.  Again I tried repairing the Home Premium but it came back with the same errors.  Now all that remains is just the fresh install of Windows 7 Professional that I installed but can't activate with the key.  Anyway I can get/download a factory image from Toshiba?  I only just bought the laptop shortly before Christmas.

  • Upgrade system and camera

Well, I been editing on a Mac Pro and FCP Studio for just over a year now and have enjoyed the stability of the system and software. I have also enjoy this forum, read it daily, and use it as a learning tool. Now it is time to move onward and upward.
First of all I film and edit recreationally, mostly sports, nature, family events and the like. I have been shooting with a Sony VX-2000 and Sony DSR390L, and using a DSR11 deck. Well it is time to upgrade both my system and camera.
I am on information overload with all the camera choices, formats and workflows. Basically I want to be able to shoot HD and also a format for DVD's and eventually Blu-ray discs, and to edit in FCP on my Mac Pro. Trying to stay up with technology here.
I would like to upgrade with a budget of around $10,000.00. In that budget I need a new camera, new laptop (for transfering files while on the road and some light editing), and to add to my system to improve my editing capability. So the known costs are..
Upgrade to Snow Leopard and FCP 7........330.00
    MacBookPro 17" Laptop........................$2,800.00
That leaves me with about $7,000.00 for a better video card, some sort of HDMI card for external monitor, and a camera.
So I guess I need information on the following...
First and foremost is the camera....I will have around $5,000.00 for a new HD Camera. For what I do I would think that 1/3" CMOS sensor should be adequate (was looking at the Sony EX1 with the 1/2" CMOS sensor but I am not sure I really need that. Plus the memory cards are quite expensive) Was also looking at the new Sony HXRNX5U. Would consider other brands, but I have always shot with Sony, with not many problems. I am also thinking that it is time to move away from tape.
So, being that I will be recording to some sort of Memory Stick, I was wondering just what hardware I will need to be able to use this format and provide for an external HD TV for monitoring.
I am guessing that I need something like a Black Magic Intensity Pro or something similar....
Would also like a recommendation for an upgraded dual monitor video card. I presently have a ATI Radeon HD 2600. (Was also looking at the Decklink HD Extreme, but was wondering if I need that or just something like the Intensity Pro and a better video card.
Thanks for helping me to sort this all out....my head is spinning.
    Kirk

if your hooking upto a laptop look at matrox mx02, or aja ioHD external sdi/hdmi io boxes, camera look at panasonic p2 HVX200, or HVX170
But please take this advice on, I would personally take a good chunk of that budget at look at buying lights, reflectors, top light (PAG?) shoulder mount (something like a PAG orbitor) radio Mics, rifle mic, and a really really good tripod
there is NO point editing dark/badly lit pictures with crap sound on them

  • Using wdm driver for 24-bit out

I'm trying to modify a visual c++ program to play 24-bit wave files using an Audigy LS. (I had been using a 6-bit SB Li've.) I recoded to use DirectSound rather than Playsound. How do I get my program to use the wdm (Directx) driver, which I'm told I need for 24-bit output?

  • Building my first system and having probs

Hi everyone. I'm building my first computer system consisting of the following components. I'm having all kinds of problems getting it to work. Evertthing was purchased in the last week or so.

I've put this together no less then 12 times now and still cannot get the system to work at all. The only thing I've noticed in the mobo manual that I can't do is the power LED wire(Which I cannot find in the case at all despite taking everything apart numerous times).
Will the lack of a plugged in power LED keep this from starting up?
    Problems I been having
Once I connect the IDE cable to the HD and then to the board the HD doesnt spin. Disconnecting the IDE from the mobo and leaving it plugged into the power supply and turning it on gets the HD spinning. Putting this HD in another computer worked just fine. Taking a working HD from another comp does the same thing when the IDE gets plugged into the mobo.
No Power LED light and reset switch doesnt work, even though the reset switch is in the correct place.
No display when I get it powered up. Comp shows a blue screen that says something like please check display. The vid card works in my other computer just fine. Taking a working vid card from a working computer and placing it in this one does not work either.
I tried to just do the basics. Vid card, CPU, memory, floppy drive, power supply and still no luck.
I'm very new at this and my only idea is that I got a bad motherboard.(I ordered all the components at newegg.com and compuplus.com). Is there any other ideas anyone has that may help me get this up and running before I take it to a computer shop?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi shadowizar,
I could tell you the "Blah Blah" on building systems.....but hey...you intelligent enough.
First, disconect all drives......all you need to boot is:
    1)MB
    2)CPU
    3)Ram
    4)PSU
    5)VGA Card (Graphics......especially placed for Reilly875!!!! LOL)
    6) Monitor
    Do you receive, boot?
BTW......I did not include case for a reason.....make sure the motherboard is not "fouled" on the case at all.......ie a screw lodged between MB & Case/MB plate

  • Mix Local and Global Transaction using XA Driver for Oracle

    Hi all,
We are trying to use a XA Driver which can support both local as well as global
transaction. We tried using the Weblogic jDriver (XA Driver) type 2 that comes
along with Weblogic installation but unfortunaltely it cannot mix local as well
    as global transaction.
Please let me know in case we have any XA JDBC driver for Oracle Database which
supports both local and global transaction together.
    Thnx,
    Kumar
    Environment:
    Weblogic 8.1 server
    Database used : Oracle8i

Most database drivers can support local and global transactions, with some
    restrictions.
The JDBC spec has been changed to require compliant drivers to let the
    application
know if they try to start a global transaction while a local transaction has
    not been
completed (or vice verse). So most of the database drivers have been
    changed to enforce
this restriction (breaking a lot of code that is out there).

  • Backing up .mdf's and .ldf's using hard drive backup utility deleting SQL Server backup devices...

I am a software developer using Windows 8.1, Visual Studio 2013, and SQL Server 2014. I have a number (30+) of SQL Server databases that I use in my development and support activities.
Every time I run a backup (full or incremental) all of the backup devices in my instance of SQL Server 2014 are being deleted. I can add them all back in (a time-consuming and irritating process after about the 5th time), and the very next time I run either
the Acronis Backup and Paragon Hard Drive Backup against the volume (D:) that contains all of the .mdf and .ldf files, all of the backup devices are again deleted.
I hope someone can give me some idea of how to get around this problem or how to eliminate it completely.  Should I not be using these types of backup utilities to copy the .mdf's and .ldf's?  I've just never seen backup devices be deleted from SQL
Server.  I have dumped the contents of the backup devices data within SQL Server and the rows are definitely gone after the either of the backups run.
Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this problem. It is very time-consuming and seems pretty silly to me -- but it's happening nonetheless.

The last backup location you use is never stored in sys.backup_devices.  That's an instance-wide table for registering shared backup locations, mosly for tape backups in the old days.
Per-database backup history is stored in msdb, and AFAIK the database backup dialog in SSMS is pre-populated with a location from msdb.  It looks like it runs this query
    exec sp_executesql N'SELECT
    bkpmf.media_family_id AS [ID],
    bkpmf.family_sequence_number AS [FamilySequenceNumber],
    bkpmf.media_count AS [MediaCount],
    bkpmf.logical_device_name AS [LogicalDeviceName],
    bkpmf.physical_device_name AS [PhysicalDeviceName],
    CASE WHEN bkpmf.device_type > 100 THEN bkpmf.device_type - 100 ELSE bkpmf.device_type END AS [BackupDeviceType],
    CAST(CASE WHEN bkpmf.device_type > 100 THEN 1 ELSE 0 END AS bit) AS [IsBackupDevicePermanent],
    bkpmf.physical_block_size AS [PhysicalBlockSize]
    FROM
    msdb.dbo.backupmediaset bkpms
INNER JOIN msdb.dbo.backupmediafamily bkpmf ON bkpmf.media_set_id=bkpms.media_set_id
    WHERE
    (bkpms.media_set_id=@_msparam_0)',N'@_msparam_0 nvarchar(4000)',@_msparam_0=N'3'
So it's possible that your backup software is purging that table, eg by runningmsdb.dbo.sp_delete_database_backuphistory.
Or perhaps more likely, your backup software is adding data to the SQL Server backup history that prevents SSMS from pre-populating the backup dialog with your last TSQL backup location.
In any case, you don't need to manually take the bakcups through SSMS every day.  You can just save a script of your backup commands (by hitting the Script button on the backup dialog) and run that.  Or create a SQL agent job to run the script
or use a database maintence plan.

  • I have upgraded iPads and my husband uses my old one, how do I change the info so updates etc work in his name

I have  upgraded to a new ipad 2, my husband has taken over my old ipad I have set up a Apple ID for him etc, how is link the old ipad to his id so my updates no longer show up on his ipad and it is his identity not mine.

Maybe I am misunderstanding what you mean by "save his programs". If they are apps that you bought with your ID, they really aren't his apps. If they are apps that he bought with his own ID, he can download them again for free as long as he uses the same Apple ID.
You cannot transfer purchases from one Apple ID to another ID. Any apps that you bought on the iPad with your ID will have to be updated by using your Apple ID and password. If he bought apps with his own ID, he needs to use his ID and password in order to update those apps.
What I am saying is that you should have erased the iPad before he started using it with his own ID. If he wants to use apps that you purchased because he doesn't want to have to pay for them again, then he will just have to juggle the two ID's.
Know that if he switches to your ID in order to download a past purchase, he will lock himself out of his own ID for 90 days. You should take a look at this.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4627
Perhaps you should clarify who bought the apps and describe exactly what you are trying to do.

I have this same problem and it occurs with other websites (like ESPN.com) too. Only I don't get the option of disabling automatic page updates on other websites. I disabled and reinstalled Mozilla and it went away for a short while. About two weeks later the same problem popped back up.

  • Having an upgrade timing and eventual platform swapping problem

I currently have CS4 Standard Design Creative Suite installed on my laptop only (PC) which I need to upgrade to CS6 before December 31.  However, I will be buying an iMac before next spring on which I need to have the new CS6 upgrade installed (for Mac, obviously).
This is causing me a headache because I don't want to pay for an upgrade just now on my PC in order to keep my upgrading priviledge and having to pay again for a new full version when I get my iMac, especially in view of the fact that the standard license technically allows me to install the software on my laptop and my desktop, provided that I don't use them at the same time.
I searched the web quite a lot, and came upon the post below in a forum.  Can you tell me whether this is possible or not, because it would be the ideal solution for me!
"Upgrade to CS6 on your PC and then apply for a platform switch OK from Adobe which can take 2 days or 2 weeks - it all depends and their process changes everytime I try it.
While waiting for the CS6 for the Mac you can continue to use CS6 on the PC. After you make the switch you can continue to use CS5 on the PC as it is a legal license but you need to agree to stop using CS6 on the PC (and sign a statement to that effect) when you make the switch to the Mac."
Or, can I simply by the upgrade now, with the swap for Mac option, but wait until I get my new Mac to install it, all the while leaving my old CS4 working on my laptop?
Thank you for any help you can provide!

Well, if this is so, it sucks big time!
It would mean that a user does not have his choice of computers on which to install the software he pays lots of $$$ for, and if he is using two different platforms, he gets less for his money than the customer who has both computers on the same platform.  I am being penalized because I don't have the budget to change my laptop to a MacBook at the same time as I buy a new iMac AND upgrade my creative suite!
Money making scam, if I may say so, because Ligtroom will work on both platforms as most of Adobe's unexpensive software, why not CS6?  The reason is simple in my mind: CS6 is 10 times the price of Lightrom so there are big bucks to make from forcing users to buy a full license for each platform...
Sorry, I had to vent a little bit here...
