Upgrading the new hardware, data migration

Dear Forum;
I need to upgrade the hardware for the IPCC solution we have without changing the versions, the following servers need to have the new hardware:
1) Call Managers (Publisher + Subscribers).
2) RGRs
3) PGs
4) HDS + ICM + Admin + Web view
As versions will not be changed for all the above, what is the best method to migrate the configurations and scripts in a safe fast way? Can someone advise?

1) In the DC storey, I did not understand the meaning of: promote them to ADs? By the way: Do u mean to install the Domain Controller and AD first and then to promote them to ADs?
You did not say if you wanted a tech refresh on the Domain Controllers or not. In fact you did not say if ICM has a dedicated domain or is using the corporate domain.
If you do have to add new hardware for the Domain Controllers, then I gave you the method:
1. Add the servers to the existing domain.
2. Promote them to DCs (using dcpromo) - now your domain has 4 DCs.
3. Move the FSMO roles from the machine they are now on (probably DC2) to DC4
4. Move the GC (global catalog) from the machine it is now on (probably DC1) to DC2. Wait a few days for replication of AD and DNS to settle down.
5. Use dcpromo to demote DC1 and DC2 to become ordinary servers.
6. Change these machines to be out of the domain (workgroup)
7. Remove servers. Clean up DNS.
2)  About the AWs, why to "Add to domain, make into AWs, not HDS"? I mean, why not the HDS? Also what do u mean by promote them to be HDS?
You should always make your AW/HDS in two phases. First, run setup from the media and make a real-time distributor - primary, no secondary. Install the SR. Make sure the real-time feed to your CCs is working. Set it to manual. Now run ICMSetup.exe from the ICM bin and "promote" to an HDS - check the HDS box. It will complain that you have not finished the install because you have not created the HDS DB with ICMDBA. Ignore this but don't start the Distributor. Use SQL backup/restore to build the HDS. Now start the Distributor and check that Replication is all working - increase the trace on rpl to 0xfff so you can see the msgs - check on the logger side with similar trace mask.
3) About the Central Controller: there are the Logger DB, will this DB has some missing as there is not method to recover this for the last moments (before moving live)?
If you do it correctly using SQL backup/restore you will not lose data. If you have to keep the contact center running on side B while you do side A, things will be a bit more complicated - read the Upgrade Guide to see how logger synchronization solves this.
As I said, if you can have a 12 hour maintenance window for the migration of the CC and bring the whole contact center down to migrate, life will be easier.
As I see the most critical part in this upgrade is not loosing the configuration and it is not the need to build every thing manual (as the moving for registry is easy, and the restore for the database is easy) but the system to become up and running is also easy, but the hard part is the avoid loosing the data. Correct? All the need to have the training is to be around how to avoid loosing the data? But no worry that service will be up and running by having the restore for the database and moving the registry.
I don't follow that paragraph. Backup and restore and import of the registry solves this. Nothing will be lost. Read the Upgrade Guide again.
Do you have a lab system you can practice the migration on? Without this, the risk is huge. You must get a step by step plan written down, and trial this on the lab system.

    If it's the same machine (same CPU) there should not be any need to activate.  The actiovation is tied to your CPU.

    As expected, cdm-git also works fine since DMs only work in the root mode as of now.
    Just for the record, both type commands output "/usr/bin/startx" and pacman -Q gives "systemd 215-4".

    In other words, the upgrade process did not go altogether well and the device has lost all its contents. When you plug it in, they will be restored from the backup.

    Help! I am struggling and im really not a wizz with technology. I must have missed the morph into the new world!     To be able to connect with the devices that need a newer version of iTunes, you are first going to need to upgrade you OS X.  To do this from where you are at, first you need to make sure that your computer meets the minimum requirements for OS X Snow Leopard which you can find here http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575 and then after verifying that it can, you then need to order the Snow Leopard CD from Apple to do the upgrade.  You can purchase the CD from them for $19.99 and when it gets to your house, you can insert the CD in the drive and press the "C" key while booting your computer.  Then you'll get the install wizard from the CD which will give you directions you need to install Snow Leopard on your computer.  After getting that installed, make sure you update the software on your computer and it will get you what you need to be able to Sync your devices.  After you get Snow Leopard installed, if you wanted to go further you could then upgrade to 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion if your computer can handle those as well, and you can do that right from the App Store that will be available to you from Snow Leopard and you don't have to order a CD for those.

    I am planning to buy a new iMac and would like to migrate some of my stuff to it from an old iMac. And then I would also like to migrate some of my stuff from a still older MacBook onto this old iMac. Complicated enough? :-)
    In short:
    Step one: stuff from my 5 year old iMac with OS 10.7.5 Lion on it migrates to -----> a brand new iMac with Yosemite.
    Step two: stuff from my 8 year old MacBook with OS 10.5.8 on it (and not upgradable any further) migrates to -----> the 5 year old iMac with OS 10.7.5 Lion on it.
    Now, my questions are these:
    1) Should I first upgrade the 5 year old iMac with OS 10.7.5 Lion on it to Yosemite before migrating my stuff from it to a brand new iMac with preinstalled Yosemite or not? Recommended, not recommended, neutral, what?
    2) If the answer to the 1st question is "yes" (recommended), will I then be able to migrate my stuff from the 8 year old MacBook with OS 10.5.8 onto it? That is, will the two migration assistants (of OS 10.9 and OS 10.5) "talk" to each other at all?
    Any further tips will be hugely appreciated!

    I am afraid you misunderstood me a little bit… While you kindly explain to me ways of how to migrate my data from one computer to another, my question was not so much about "how" but rather about "whether":
    a) should I first upgrade my old iMac (with 10.7.5 Lion on it) to Yosemite before migrating its data to the new iMac with preinstalled Yosemite? Will it help in any way or is it irrelevant?
    b) and if the answer is "yes" (i. e. upgrade the old iMac to Yosemite), whether the migration assistant on the 8 year old MB will then be able to "talk" to its counterpart on the now upgraded old iMac?
    Perhaps this too might help:
    What I am trying to do is make two computers out of three -
    1) My wife's 8 year old MacBook will most probably go to the dustbin. Before it does, I would like to migrate her data to my 5 year old iMac which will then replace her MB (in the dustbin) and be hers forever after.
    2) I will certainly have to migrate my own data from my 5 year old iMac to the new iMac which I am about to buy.
    So the question remains: upgrade the old iMac for both purposes (s. above - #1 and #2) from Lion to Yosemite - yes, no, doesn't matter, what?

    If the basic troubleshooting steps, including restore as a NEW device, not from backup, have failed to resolve your issue, then you are probably having some hardware malfunction.  You will need to bring your phone, and $199 to Apple for out of warranty replacement of the phone.

    permission problems with the hard drive.
    You can repair the disk permissions by doing the following:
    Go to Utilities then  to Disk Utility
    Click on the Hard Drive on the left Plane in Disk Utilities, then click repair permissions.

    We had faced the same issue & our communication with OSS brought the following points to the fore:-
    a) The decision to activate doc-splitting MUST be made before go-live.
    b) The migration tool required for data migration into doc-split related tables is    planned by SAP but not yet available.
    c)Subsequent activation of doc-split causes serious problems as per note 891144.

    Following the above instruction I managed to "fix" the login problem but all my files are gone, nothing there at all.
    Note: I have used FileVault for my home directory and my guess is that that is part of the problem
    I have multiple backups taken with "Time machine" before the upgrade, I can see several files that I hope
    is my FileVault home directory. I can also see all the backup dates going back several months but each directory is
    empty when I enter Time Machine, so I cannot restore my files.
    I need to restore all my pictures from my vacation, I thought they were safe but Apples Q&A seems to be a joke.
    At least a warning during the upgrade would have been nice..
    What can I do to get back my data? 
    I assume it is to install Snow Leopard using my CD and try and restore my user.

    Some what resolved.
    I mounted the <username>.sparsebundle and I'm now copying the relevant data.
    It seems that 10.7 comes with FileVault 2, ( the whole disk is encrypted ), and in 10.6 you only had your home directory as an encrypted sparse file. The new version will make it easier for Time machine to both take backups and restore them, with the earlier version Time Machine was limited to restoring the home directory in its entirety. You learn something every day...
    It cannot be that hard to warn a user during the upgrade that this can happen...

  • Using Time Machine on the new MacBook after migration

    I have an external hard disk that I use for time machine. I changed my laptop from Macbook Pro 15" to Macbook Pro 13" and I used this external hard disk to migrate from my older Macbook to the new one. Now I want to use my external hard disk to back up my new computer but the problem is that I think when I try to backup it makes the backup on top of everything from my older computer. The back up on the new Macbook takes 250GBs on top of 600-700GBs. I don't think that my backup should take 900GB of space. I think 600-700GBs is from the older computer and I don't want to have an unnecessary backup on top of what I actually need...
    So what should I do to get rid of that 600-700GB properly , and then set the external hard disk as the new time machine for my new Macbook ?
    My OS is 10.8.4.

    Exactly how did you do that?  
    If you used Setup Assistant when the new Mac started up (preferred), or the Migration Assistant app later on, and let it transfer Computer Settings, when the next backup started, you should have been asked if you wanted the new Mac to "inherit" the old Mac's backups.  See #B5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting for more explanation and details.
    If you did something else, or answered the prompt with Create New Backup, you may be able to do that manually.  It's a bit geeky, though. See #B6 in the same link.
