Upgrading Vista 64 to Windows 7 64 with CS4

I am preparing to perform an upgrade of my Vista x64 installation to Windows 7 x64. I have CS4 installed - do I need to deactivate CS4 prior to doing the upgrade (not a clean install of Windows 7), or will the license still be recognized without activation issues after the migration to Windows 7 (same hardware).

On behalf of Adobe Systems Incorporated ...
Adobe most strongly recommends that you do a clean install of any new operating system version of Windows even though Windows Vista 64-bit and Windows 7 64-bit are almost kissing cousins (so to speak). Our experience is that the so-called upgraders provided with the new OS releases really don't do an adequate job of fully and properly migrating all the settings and files necessary for your upgraded OS to run properly. This is especially true for various system drivers (including video drivers), registry entries, and special file locations. You will find that there are things that happen that never are quite right operating under such in-place upgrades. Doing a clean install OS upgrade does really require that you fully reinstall all software, especially Adobe software after the clean install which does imply reformatting your system disk partition after backing up all your data. You would be very prudent to deactivate any and all Adobe software prior to this process.
If you are foolhardy enough to avoid our recommendation with regards to the clean install of Windows 7 64-bit, most likely you will be safe in terms of the activation, but I suspect that ultimately you will be sorry.

  • Upgrade Vista to Windows 7 Keyboard Filter Issue

I really need some help with this...
I upgraded vista to Windows 7 full retail version.
Compatability check said to update keyboard filter. I couldnt find much info about this and assumed it wouldnt affect it too much except extra functions I probly never use.
Unfortunately, my keyboard doesnt function properly at all.
    Im using HP G30-260US laptop.
I have now disconnected the keyboard ribbon and plugged in a usb keyboard, quite a pain to use this one, but at least its working. I would really like to know of a fix for this issue to get my real keyboard working and windows 7 is already running on this computer, from upgrading, not a clean install. I've tried installing a different quick launch buttons driver and uninstalled it completely after windows 7 but no success.
    Please help me hehe
    Thanks a miillion

  • Can I upgrade Vista to Windows 8 on a MacPro 2,1 (OS 10.6.8)?

I have Vista-64 (BootCamp 3) on my Windows partition and am beginning to have problems with some newer software. I'm running 10.6.8 on the Mac side, and can't really upgrade that (don't want to use Lion). Can I upgrade my Vista to Windows 7 or 8, and what's the easiest way to do that (without redoing the Bootcamp partition, hopefully). Thanks.

Xcode 4.x cannot be installed on Snow Leopard.  You need a 3.x.  So if that is what you used then yes, you need to install lion.   If connect.apple.com still alows registration or logins using an existing appleid then you could download the last xcode 3.2.6 for free.

  • Need to upgrade Vista to Windows - problem with CC?

    Hi,
I didnt realise the Edge animate feature would not work with Windows Vista, so what i decided to do is upgrade my operating system. However i recently reset my laptop to factory settings so i am unsure if it would appear that i have downloaded the apps on 2 computers, when in fact its the same laptop. Now that if i upgrade my operating system will that cause problems because my apps have been installed on this PC twice already?
Also as i am upgrading... for the features of Creative Cloud ..alll of them.. is Windows 8 or 7 preferred by Adobe and are issues supported as apparently on the forums there was a post from an 'Elaine' advising Adobe didnt support Vista related probelms. This was kind of unfair as i purchased Creative Cloud for Windows Vista, this kind of gives the impression the programmes work on Vista to be fair, i could have upgraded beforehand if i'd been aware, but either way i need to get it right this time as my assignments are going overdue and i could be failed.
I really appreciate any and all help you could give me as im in a lot of trouble.
    Thanks in advance,
    Lara.

The better graphics option ie 780M for that Imac with the I7. I would also suggest a TB drive instead of Firewire which is higher latency and lower bandwidth for drives.

  • Upgrade Vista to Windows 7

Ok I have a T61 which is still works reasonably well for my purposes  (core duo T7500 @ 2.2 GHz + 8g Ram).  Windows Vista has become corrupted in some way which interferes with printing and now McAfee anti virus is giving me problems as well.  So I figure it is time to upgrade to Windows 7.
What is the best way to go about it?   Download 7 from MSFT site?  That would seem the easiest.
Will 7 use the subsystems already resident on the computer thus inheriting the problems of Vista?
    Thanks for your guidance.

    Hello,
You might want to take a look into purchasing a license that includes the physical media for the installing the operating system, such as an Upgrade Edition license, which you can still perform a clean installation with, as opposed to just an upgrade of the existing operating system.

  • Help! DV7-1020US - "No emulation System Type 00" when upgrade Vista to WIndows 7

    Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade an HP DV7-1020us from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium.  When the laptop reboots as part of the installation, I get a message:
0: No emulation  system type 00
1: No emulation  system type 00
I've seen similar problems posted, but with no responses.
    Can anyone explain:
    1) Why am I getting these messages when I boot the system, and
    2) How to eliminate them?
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi,
FYI, each time the laptop booted during the upgrade, it displayed those lines.
What I ended up doing is typing "0" (no Enter key, just "0") and then it'd boot through to Win7 for the next phase of the upgrade.
I was able to get through the Win7 upgrade process that way, and Win7 is now running on the laptop.
After completing the Win7 upgrade, I don't see those lines anymore when the laptop is booted.  Not sure why.

  • Upgrade from CS3 Windows to CS4 Macintosh

    Hello,
it's going to look weird and like a question coming back from a few years ago but it would help me a lot if any one had the answer...
I have a WebDesign Premium CS3 for Windows and an upgrade from any CS3 to Design Premium CS4 for Macintosh.
But, the CS4 set up assistant doesn't accept the serial number from the CS3...
I know that you can cross-upgrade to CS5 with a regular upgrade but is it the same with former versions ?
    Ay suggestions ?
    Thanks
    Nicolas

You can cross-grade from different versions, but you need to give sign documentation from Adobe that you have destroyed the disks. The reason you may have had trouble and why you still may have trouble with a cross-grade is that when you buy an upgrade there are different upgrade disks that MUST be used depending upon the software you are upgrading from. Before you start, you might be best off calling customer service with your two serial numbers and see what is what. You want to make sure you buy an upgrade that will work.

  • If I upgrade from CS3 Windows to CS4 Mac , will my windows CS3 still work?

    Subject says it all.
I would like to have photoshop CS4 on my mac but be able to retain the useage of CS3 on my windows machine. Is this possible or will upgrading cancel out my ability to use CS3?

Because i have two computers that i use simultaneously, 1 mac and 1 pc. I would not own a mac if I wanted to run windows on it hehe.
I have software I use on windows because it is more supported than the mac version of it. ( some companies shouldn't tease and say they have a mac version unless they actually have a tech squad capable of squashing bugs )
It is very convenient to have photoshop on my windows pc along with that software.
My PC and Mac are almost identical in specs ( 4gb ram, 2.13 ghz core 2 duo vs 2.4 ghz core 2 duo ) yet my mac can open files from my PC's desktop 10x faster than my PC can. - over the network. I keep my PC in top shape, i defrag, i run malware / antivirus cleaners, I check my registry regularly. Its just not close to being as fast as my mac.
I use my mac primarily for webdesign/development work and thats why I would love to have a permanent version of photoshop on it. the work I do on my PC is related to 3d and the software I use has very poor mac support.
So my question has been answered, I am unable to crossgrade to mac and retain a working PC version. so for now, i get to upgrade the PC version and wait for a few more $ until i can grab a full mac version. at which point i might even go all out and grab the $1700 suite.
    Thank you for the help!

  • Can I upgrade Vista to Windows 7 (using an upgrade disk) on boot camp when my Vista drivers aren't functioning?

I have an early 2011 Macbook Pro and I'm trying to create a Windows partition. I have Windows Vista Ultimate, but apparently my computer can only support Windows 7 (I've tried everything to get drivers to work on Vista.) My question is, can I buy the $29.99 Windows 7 (shown here http://www.microsoft.com/student/en/us/windows/buynow/default.aspx) and upgrade my Vista, even though none of the drivers work? I can't afford to buy a full version of Windows 7, so I'm trying to work around it as best I can. Thanks so much for your help!

  • Upgrading Vista to Windows 7 problem

So, I know Apple hasn't officially supported installing 7 yet, but I've been trying to upgrade from Vista Business edition. It will get almost all the way through and then have some kind of issue and says it reverts back to Vista. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm guessing I can reinstall Vista and then upgrade it to 7, but I'd like to avoid that.

    Hi Chris,
have a look here http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/review_upgrade.asp for upgrade possibilities or when you have to migrate.
Basically an upgrade from 32-bit Vista to 64-bit Windows 7 is not possible and an upgrade from a 'high-grade' Vista version to a 'lower-grade' Windows 7 version is also not possible.
This might be the cause of your trouble, depending on what Windows 7 version you have.
    Hope it helps
    Stefan

  • Why wont my HP All In One C5280 printer print from photo tray after upgrade- vista to windows 7?

I recently downloaded an upgrade for windows home premium. Used to have Vista. Now my HP C5280 All In One printer will not print from the photo tray when settings are correctly set. This is after I ran HP Update. What do I do next.

I would try running the HP Print Diagnostic Utility. Go to http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-91788-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&...= and see what part fails.

  • Reimage after upgrading Vista to Windows 7

Is it possible to create recovery disks and then reimage a Satellite A505-S6965 that has been upgraded from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate and then restore the laptop to Windows 7?
I can't find my Windows 7 product key, so I can't just re-install Windows. It is a genuine copy--I did buy the upgrade.
Sorry for the uneducated question, but if it is possible, what state would be laptop be in after the restoration? Would it have just the OS and need all the apps re-installed, and the docs, pics, etc would be gone (which is what I want)?
If that is not possible using this method, what can I do to reimage the disk without having to buy another copy of Windows 7? Is there a way to recover the Windows 7 product key?
    Thanks,
    Karen

    Hi Karen.
Another solution to find your "legal" Product keys is to D/L and use SIW. If you click on Licenses, you will get them all. Fantastic app for any curious mind. I have it on all my machines. Here is the speel on it.  Have fun.  JP.

    Greg, welcome to the forum.
I wouldn't think that it should be a major problem.  HP has provided all of the drivers for Win 7 (32-bit and 64-bit).  Here is a guide that should make the process less difficult.

  • Need to Re-activate CS4 after upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 (32 bit)

I have a laptop running Vista 32-bit with Lightroom 2.7 and Photoshop CS4 installed.  I'm planning to upgrade the computer from Vista 32-bit to Windows 7 32-bit, upgrading in place to avoid having to reformat and reinstall all the software.  Will Photoshop still be activated after the upgrade or will I need to re-activate it?  If I need to reactivate, will the OS change make the activation process think the software has been moved to a new computer?  It is currently activated on two machines (one of which is this laptop) as it is and don't want the activation wizard to think I'm putting it on third machine in violation of the license.  Should I de-activate it before upgrading the OS and then re-activate once the system upgrade is complete?  After the OS change I plan to upgrade the Adobe software to Lightroom 3 and PS CS5 - does the activation of CS4 even matter in that case?  Anyone done a Vista->Win7 upgrade in place and offer any suggestions?

You are a brave man indeed, John.
An in-place upgrade is still a bad idea though.

  • I have just upgraded my laptop from vista to windows 7, I have all my music on an external as the library is to large for hard disk. I have downloaded Itunes 11 but cannot  fathom a way of getting my new itunes to connect with my external library.

Question:  I have upgraded my windows vista to windows 7, I have all of my itunes music stored onto an external due to the size of content, so in vista all of my music in itunes had a path to F (external library). But now I have upgrade to windows 7, I cannot get itunes to recognise my library from my external. I have tried to connect external and open itunes with shift key down with both suggestions but to no avail. please help, all I want is to keep my library on external not on hard drive. I have also gone to preferences/advanced and made sure the external drive is chosen. This seems so complicated and I thought it would have been easy...

At a guess you followed the process in HT1364 - iTunes for Windows: Moving your iTunes Media folder which would have moved the media folder to a new path of your choice. This process leaves the library database files back in the original location of <User's Music>\iTunes. Often people assume that all they need is now on the external drive and wipe the internal drive, or discard their old computer, before backing up the all important iTunes folder. If you have a backup of your user's profile folder from before the upgrade the iTunes library folder should be in there somewhere. Restore it to <User's Music> and your original library should pop back into existence. The external drive would need to have the same drive letter that it had previously.
A more effective way to relocate the library is to move the entire iTunes folder to the external drive, then hold down shift when starting iTunes and keep holding until asked to choose or create a library. You would then choose the file iTunes Library.itl in the iTunes folder on the external drive. If this is the way you moved the library before then that is how you should now reconnect to it. Changing the media folder in preferences doesn't change which .itl database file is opened, nor does double-clicking on an .itl file directly.
If you no longer have the original .itl file then you will have to build a new library and import the media to it. If you need to do this I would recommend you create a new library at F:\iTunes, then move your existing media folders inside F:\iTunes\iTunes Media before importing. This will avoid the creation of duplicates and make sure the library is in the correct shape going forwards.
If you have an iPod or iOS device my scripts ImportDevicePlaylists and SyncStats may well let you recover ratings, play counts & playlists from the device.
When you've fixed up your libray you should consider getting a second external drive to backup to.

are ther problems upgrading iTunes from Vista to Windows 7?

The best method is to use Windows Easy Transfer first to backup all your data, and do custom clean install. And install all your apps and drivers afterwards.
Yes it should work. Make sure you are ready, and have all the latest drivers and applications ahead of time.
