UPGRADING ZEN MICRO-ITS EFFECT

I got a quick question: IF I UPGRADE MY ZEN MICRO PLAYER, WILL IT ERASE MY MUSIC FILES IN THE PROCESS? I WANT TO UPGRADE FROM THE . VERSION TO THE 2X VERSION, BUT I'M AFRAID WHILE IN THE FIRMWARE UPGRADING PROCESS, MY MUSIC FILES MAY GO MISSING IN THE PROCESS?

In addition, you will need to upgrade your Creative software when you switch to MTP firmware. You'll need a new Zen Micro Media Explorer (included in the Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update) as well as a new plugin that enables MediaSource to work with it.

  • Can I upgrade Zen Micro 5GB to anything say 20

Is there any sort of case that I can purchase to use the old dri've as back-up mobile storage
Are there any firmware problems (not just 'issues')?
    Thanks

Upgrading the older players was easier, particularly those that use the 2.5" dri'ves because (a) 2.5" dri'ves tend to come in only a few different sizes (b) they're relati'vely cheap (c) you can get a pretty significant upgrade to say 00-20Gb.
With the newer players it's not so straightforward. Dri've form factors can vary slightly causing the dri've not to fit, the smaller dri'ves are much more expensi've particularly in larger sizes, and you don't get significant changes in size.
This tends to mean it's uneconomic to try upgrading the newer players.

    For the Micro's microdri've, I'm not sure.

I'm losing track of the various issues with the players, but have a look at the buglist linked from my signature.

  • Upgrading ZEN Micro firmware

Sorry, I sneezed and hit the wrong button.
I am planning to upgrade the firmware in my ZEN Micro to ver. 2.2 so that it will be recognized by my new Vista machine. Will this mean that my XP machine will no longer be able to recognize the player?

As long as you have XP properly updated, it will recognize your Zen Micro with the 2.x firmware.

  • Upgrading ZEN Micro firmw

I am planning to upgrade the firmware of my ZEN Micro to ver. 2.2

Here is a note I sent to the Creative support folks. They simply suggested I go back to firmware .0.03.
I have to admit, going back to the other firmware update does not seem to be the true resolution, but I really don't have any more time to waste fixing your bugs. So, I am now on .0.03. It's a good thing I synchronized all 920+ songs, or I would not be a happy camper right now. :-)
I will tell you it appears to be a multiple USB issue with your new firmware. I experimented with this, and found that if I have my iPAQ connected into my USB ports, as well as my USB mouse, my USB CD/DVD dri've and my USB Keyboard, the MTP explorer will not recognize the Zen Micro.
When I take the iPAQ out, magically, the Zen Micro gets recognized and the MTP Explorer is working. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WITH THE MTP FIRMWARE!!
I am now back to the .0.03 release of the firmware and none if this happens. As I write this to you, I have everything connected and I am ripping a CD to my device - no problems. I am fortunate however to have a laptop that I was able to do this with, otherwise I would be in the same place others are, and the upgrade frimware doesn't ever recognize the Zen Micro, even though it is in the Device Manager. ?
So, I would say, that your MTP firmware takes control too much, and seems to substitute for something like an iPAQ, where they cannot co-exist or other USB harware, such as a memory reader (CF, SmartMemory, etc.). This is not a PC USB issue, in my mind. It is a firmware issue that is causing the conflict.
    Thanks.

  • Upgrading Zen Micro Firmwa

if I upgrade the Zen Micro to the NEWEST available firmware...will I still be able to use Zen Micro Media Explorer? I love the program..
the new firmware uses WMP, am I right? anyone use WMP as the main software for putting songs on your player, etc. Is it better?

There is a latest MTP firmware and a latest non-MTP firmware. Note that for MTP firmware, if you view the tracks in your Zen Micro on the PC, you will see that the track organization is by folders, just like the way files are organized in your PC. For non-MTP firmware, you will see that the track organization is by library.
There is also a MTP version of the latest Zen Micro Media Explorer and a MTP version oif the latest Creative MediaSource for download.

  • Problems upgrading Zen Micro to Zen Visio

I have recently upgraded from a Zen Micro 5G to a Zen Vision M. I am trying to transfer all tracks.
Since I have installed the disk for Vision M, I have a problem with transferring purchased tracks. A) I cannot upload them to the Vision M;and b) I cannot play them on my computer anymore?? it shows a black cross ? even though they have the full location on the C:\ dri've showingI have tried deleting the track completely from play list and C:\ dri've and then re-downloading from where I purchased from. The Media Source accepts it (i.e. does not advise it is a duplicate) but when I try to play it or transfer to Vision M I get another black cross and it will not let me ? it advises an error has occurred.
I have tried connecting both players and then uploading but I get a message withNOMAD. in.
I have about 50-60 purchased tracks that I want ? even if I could re-purchase them (which I do not want to do!), it looks as if I am not going to be able to Hope someone can help...

Try a reset of the unit and then run, don't walk to nomad.com for a firmware upgrade. That should take care of the problem. Hope that this hel

  • Petition to upgrade Zen Micro Photo to view pictures and play music at the same t

As you all are aware the iPod Nano faces off with zen Microphoto. Even though it isn't yet available at Creative.us and after waiting almost a year, I just had to grab one from Best Buy that sold out. I purchased it because of the huge 8GB harddri've, FM stereo receiver (that's how I get to know about new songs) and color photo capabilities. Unfortunately, everytime I try to watch a photo or play a slideshow, the music cuts off without warning and my bright and shiny player isn't a MP3 player anymore. Please, everyone, WRITE CREATIVE via Email and ask them to upgrade the firmware and software to stop turning off the music whenever we play photos. If the iPod Nano can do it... shouldn't the Zen MicroPhoto be able to do it also?Imagine not being able to play your sport team's music while you view your sports picture while you were playing ball. Imagine not hearing your wedding song while you view your wedding photos?Imagine not hearing your graduation song while you look back at your graduation pictures? How very horrible! Please petition Creative to fix this grave injustice please!Thank you ladies and gentlemen!Message Edited by Catherina-CL on 0-7-2005 0:33 PM

So, what you're saying is the iPod uses superior hardware components because they play images and music at the same time, even in the itty bitty Nano. Also, the iPod is able to "shuffle" photos so that you don't get bored seeing the same photos over and over again as in sequential mode.
There are a few players that do support music and photos... some will only limit one song per slideshow.
Furthermore, if you check the Zen Vision manual, creative's newest MP3 multimedia player... it does NOT support photos and music at the same time either.
In my opionion, it's a software issue, like I said, it displays only one image (background) during music play - if it couldn't, it would have shut off the image too. It's not that they CUT OUT creative features, but that they didn't write the software to allow the ZMP to "play" photos and music at the same time.
I mean, you can buy a PC for less than a ZMP and it can run several applications showing music and photo and videos at the same time.
I wouldn't buy the zen micro for nothing... there's just something special about having a color screen. I mean, who buys black & white TV these days?
With X-fi, I'm restoring my MP3 to higher quality, I'm sure the 8GB will come in handy as these filesize will only increase. And I got it because I'm hearing more and more music on the radio that I want to have... so my collection will only increase. I have over ,200MP3 at 320K which stood at 6.5GB.
As for you, consider that you're paying an extra $20 for 2 more GB and a 256K color display. It's well worth it over a 6GB monochrome MP3 player.

  • Confused???Upgraded Zen Micro software or not?

Bought Zen Mirco 2 weeks ago for my daughter and brother but the battery life is short. So i told them not a problem coz we can download the new upgrade software from creative. But after reading the problem of still being the same should i download it or not?
What is the actual play time for the player?Thought it was 2hrs.
My eldest girl had the Neeon and the battery life is so much better than Mirco.
My mum is using Muvo Mirco N200 with AAA battery and is the BEST.

Well i am running all the latest software updates and my micro (currently about 4 months old or so) is working great.
battery life depends on loads of diferent factors in no particular order bitrate of songs, how long you fiddle around with it/if the backlight stays on for heaps it will waste battery how loud is the music what sort of music etc etc etc
If you are curretnly on a .xx.xx firmware and upgrade to a 2.xx.xx firmware you will need to reload all your songs.
Be very aware of that before upgrading.
    Anyway to check whats available
Plug your micro into your PC
    Connect to the internet
    go to this URL :
    http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/downloads/su.asp
It will check all the available updates for your device
    Hope this hel

  • Zen Micro Firmware Upgrade/Media Probl

Hi, have upgraded the firmware on my Zen Micro to v2.2.02. SInce the upgrade Zen Micro Media Expolrer will no longer work, as it says it in uncompatable with the device. I now have to load songs via MY COMPUTER and it doesnt have the ease of use and functionality of ZMME. Any ideas what I can do? Thanks in advance.

  • Will my Zen Micro need chargi

    Hey,
I have ordered my zen micro off Amazon, its due in 2 more days.
I was Just wondering if it would need charging as soon as i take i out of the box?
    Also,
After reading reviews etc. on the Zen micro its struck me how many people are having problems with their batteries, something about turning it on before its plugged into the AC mains, I'm not quite sure....
anybody got any tips to prevent things like this happening?
i would also like some maintenance tips so i can keep my player in tip top condition?
:smileysurprised: I Saw Some Leather Cases On Amazon For The Micro IF any Body Is interested?:smileysurprised:
    thanks,
    Lou

Whether your micro will need charging, depends really on that, how long will you be listening to music right after you take it out of the box. If you come up with an hour, no it would not need charging. But you have to generally charge it, because you have to transfer music to it, may be upgrade firmware and take a closer look at it by and while playing with the touch pad and the menu options.
On the question about battery flows: it has been discussed a lot already. Please take a look at the relevant threads. You can use the search option to find some.
There is no a specific way for the micro to ensure a longer battery life. Really. There is just a general way. You can reed a lot of information everywhere about how to encrease the average battery life of your DAP.
The supplied carring case (as long as it is supplied with the 5 gb model) is quite good, it makes the player see not so good though, as it really is. it is your desigion whether to by a leather case whre you have to take it everytime you need the touch pad or keep it in the plastic one with the touchpad and screen opened.

  • Zen Micro - transfer lock ups with latest firmwa

I've been trying to transfer mp3 files to my firmware upgraded Zen Micro and find that the transfer slows down and then locks the player after 30-40 files have successfully copied. This happens with ..0 and 2.2.02 firmwares.
The player will then remain in a 'acti've' docked state (black arrows) until the battery is removed. After this lock up tags on the mp3 files are messed up and display Chinese looking characters in the Details View.
This happens on two different computers with USB2.0, one Intel based and the other AMD.
Two questions - anyone know if this is a known issue being worked on for an imminent firmware update? And secondly - is the problem aggravated (or even created) because I am trying to copy files over from a directory tree (mp3's sorted into artist/album/ folders) rather than one flat folder with all mp3s in it (ie. in one single folder).

I'd try transferring fewer files at a time and see if that works.
You might be on to something with copying from a directory tree too. See if transferring the files in smaller groups from one folder helps out.
You can always organize the artists/albums later in Zen Micro Media Explorer or Creative MediaSource.

  • Zen Micro driv

Are the drivers that install from the CD that came with my ZM the latest drivers? I need to re-install them, and I want to make sure I install the latest. There are no ZM drivers for download on the Creative website. Are the Zen Touch drivers the same as the ZM drivers?

Try this: http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/ , then select Upgrade Zen Micro Firmware picture...

  • [Zen Micro] Firmware upgrade has bloc

    Hi,
I'm upgrading my Zen Micro firmware from ..0 to 2.2.02 version right now, but it looks like the process has stuck. My processor seems not to be working, the progress bar is no more advancing and the arrows on my player are white. There's a message on the window that says "Rebooting your player. Please wait." But nothing actually happens. What should I do? If I plugged off my player, can I cause it any damage? Should I restart the upgrade? As the 'Close' button is available for clicking, I can assume the process is stoppable and its terminating shouldn't cause damages... can't I?
    Please, help me.
    Thank you for your suggestions.
    haunted

And no software will acknowledge mine since I stupidly upgrade to the 2 level firmware. I've been on a three-week merry go round with email customer service...they've even had me go into the registry of my computer (yikes!) but no solution.

  • Problems with upgrading firmware in Zen Micro 4

I am currently having a problem with upgrading the firmware on my Zen Micro 4 GB. The Zen Micro seems to hang right after the first reboot, therefore not finishing the whole upgrade. I am currently trying to upgrade to 2.2.02. It seems that whenever I try to reboot the Zen Micro while it is connected via USB, it hangs at the Creative Logo and I have to end up resetting the system. Oddly enough, I have a second Zen Micro that I was able to upgrade the firmware with no problems whatsoever. Any suggestions?
P.S. I do have Windows XP SP2 with WMP 0 installedMessage Edited by Hubmasterflex on 0-07-2006 04:23 AM

Try using reload OS in the recovery mode to erase the current firmware, then connect to the PC and reload. You take a risk doing this though as if the firmware won't reload from the PC you'll be left with an effecti'vely useless player, and you'll have to contact support to get a replacement.

  • PETITION - ZEN MICRO UPGRADE PROGRAM TO ZM PH

The Zen Micro has cause a lot of heartaches, disappointments and have left a lot of customers frustrated with the quality, stability and effecti'veness of Creative's customer service, yet, they are still pushing for the Fall/Winter to come out with the Zen Micro Photo:
    http://www.engadget.com/entry/234000630054279
I petition that if Creative is going to come out with a newer version of the Zen Micro, that should allow customers and a chance to upgrade their Micro, to HOPEFULLY *fingers crossed* a more stable version of the Zen Micro with a possible small fee or difference.
The latest claims, which Im sure will be disproved by the Customer Testers of the Micros:
    5hr battery life
    8GB Harddri've

This idea doesn't make any sense to me, other than letting current Micro owners get something better for cheap, which is not the business that Creative is in. (When I say "better" I mean more features, not better quality.) What about owners of other Creative models? Should they get this upgrade? Should owners of the Zen Xtra and Touch get upgrades to the Sleek? Creative would have to hire an entire new department just to handle these upgrades.
If you had problems with your original Micro why didn't you take it up with Creative? They should have been able to do something to help you out with it. If you did take it up with Creative, you should be satisfied with the Micro you have by now. Creative told me last week (before I got my Sleek, when I was still considering the Micro) that all the hardware issues had been resolved; presumably this means all new Micros have corrected hardware. So if to resolve your complaint they sent you a new one, it would be the improved one, the Zen Micro 2.0, if you will.
I could see perhaps if Creative offered some nominal discount to owners of Zen Micro (non-photo) who wanted to send their old unit in for recycle; then the user could get, say, a $20 off the Micro Photo. Otherwise this isn't really a good marketing decision; it's just pandering to Zen Micro owners. If you want the Micro Photo, buy it. If you want to switch to another brand, do it.
    Another two cent contribution.
