Uploading Query Results to MS-EXCel

Can you please tell me how to upload my SQL query results to MS-EXCEL on UNIX or WINDOWS?
Thanks,
Kamala

Why don't you just use Microsoft Query with an ODBC datasource (use the SQL window if you want)? Data -> Get External Data -> New Database Query

  • Display the query result in an Excel file??

    hi there..
    am writing one script file that queries my DB and display the query result in an Excel file??
    i.e: if my query is :
    select col1, col2
    from table;
    and i want the results to dispalys in 2 col. in an Excel spreadsheet..
    Appreaciating ur cooperation..

    set colsep to a delimiter that is not normally part of your data like |
    also setup the environment with these other setup commands
    Set Echo Off;
    Set Concat Off;
    Set Pagesize 9999;
    Set Feedback Off;
    Set Verify Off;
    Set Term Off;
    Set Space 0;
    Set Colsep '|'
    Set Underline Off;
    If you wanted to use a comma delimiter the setup would be same but the set colsep='","'
    with the addition of concatenating a " on the first col and last col of the query
    eg.
    -- if first col and last_col are character types then
    SELECT '"'||col1,....,last_col||'"'
    FROM table;
    Otherwise if either is a number they would have to be converted with a TO_CHAR

  • Transferring multi-column query result into MS Excel

    Hello everybody!
    An ultimate novice in Oracle, with some database concepts, is here.
    The very first challenge; which I encoutered is that I want to transfer a Select query result, with multiple columns, into MS Excel sheet in a way that each field occupies a separate column in the sheet.
    I hope the forum members will show me a simple way to get around the problem.
    Thanks in anticipation.
    Rabi

    what will happen the query returns too many rows that
    Excel cant hold? I faced this problem and divided the
    report into "n" numbers based on the number of rows
    returned. Is there any internal logic for it in
    oracle?Excel is capable of holding 65536 rows of data on a sheet.
    Oracle is capable of writing data out to files.
    Oracle does not know or care whether the file it is writing is for Excel or any other product, as the file you are likely to be writing is CSV (comma seperate format) which is an open format, not specifically for Excel. If you need to limit the number of rows per CSV file then you will have to code this "business logic" into your code that produces the CSV file from Oracle.

  • Sending query results to an excel file

    hai friends,
    Can any one help me out in sending the results of a query to an excel file once i press a button on my jsp.
    I need to display the results of the query and has to send those results to the excel file.
    Thanks and regards,
    ravikiran

    The solution is simple and the trick lies in setting the Content Type of the response and producing the output.
    If we remember, while coding in servlets, one needs to set the content type on the response object. For outputting in Excel format, the content type has to be set as "application/vnd.ms-excel"
    Once this is done, the servlet knows that it has to produce the output in MS Excel Sheet.
    You can query the databsae and loop over your record set and output it in any manner you like.
    eg
    <!-- Printing the Row Headers-->
    out.println("Header1 \t Header 2 \t Header3");
    <!-- printing the actual values from database-->
    while(rs.next()){
    out.println(rs.getString(1) + "\t" + rs.getString(2) + "\t" + rs.getString(3));
    Hopefully this will work for all of you.
    Thanks

  • Need SQL Query which saves query results to an excel file

    Thanks,
    Chetan

    I am looking for a sql query which saves/ export results of an query to a excel file
    Thanks,
    Chetan
    Options:
    1) You can use
    BCP command to export result to excel
    2) Insert into excel by using OPENROWSET
    3) Use Import and Export Wizard and provide SQL query as source and Excel as destination

  • Issue - Query results in Analyzer ( Excel vs Portal)

    There seems to be a contradiction between the displayed sub-totals when a report is run in the Excel version versus the Web (Portal) version.
    In fact, the Excel version is displaying the acceptable output:
                 Overall Result:
            A           |                           B
    -$ 537,435.50 |                         -$ 5,943,930.24
    Compared to the Portal version:
                 Overall Result:
           A           |                       B
         Blank         |                              Blank
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks
    Isaac

    Dilip,
    Are all the other values other than subtotals appearing properly .. or do you see this for all result rows ?
    Might be worthwhile to see if any stylesheet has been changed which is affecting your default template.

  • SQL Query results to CSV as two worksheets

    I'm trying to take two SQL queries and get the results sent to a CSV file on two worksheets.  Looking online I have not found a solid example of using the Excel ComObject to create a CSV then add a new worksheet to the CSV file.  An added bonus
    would be using AutoFit on the columns so everything is easily visible.
    Code found online got me the following script which does work, however it takes 12 minutes to pipe the SQL queries to Excel.  Switching to a CSV and the script executes in 5 seconds.
    This is another nice to have, I was also looking the best way to look at the results (only 1 column) and depending on the length of the data, insert what Excel would call a Cell thereby shifting cells RIGHT but so far have found no clear examples of how
    to accomplish that.  My guess would be modifying my SQL queries but I've posted a question on StackOverFlow and someone suggested modifying the PowerShell Table created from the SQL dataset.Tables
    Code:
    $docs = "C:\Scripts\Output.xlsx"
    If (Test-Path $docs){Remove-Item $docs}
    Function Run-Query {

    Here's what I ended up with that accomplishes my goal.  I learned it's not possible to create a CSV with two worksheets since Excel will allow this but the CSV cannot be saved with the second worksheet.  Instead, I create two CSV files then merge
    them into one Excel workbook, one CSV per worksheet.  In my case, this happens in 5 seconds.  There is one thing which must be mentioned, I've seen this script fail the first time it is run but will successfully run the second time.
    Also note, after much trial and error, this code correctly cleans up the Excel ComObject!!  -Thanks go to JRV.

  • Query Results to the Application Server

    Hello Experts,
    We have a requirement where when we execute a query, the query results in the excel format should be placed in a folder in the application server.From the Application server I need to send these results using the FTP service to the different locations.
    Can someone please suggest me how to place the query results in the application server and how to send these results using the FTP service to the different locations.
    Regards,
    Sachin

    Hi Sachin,
    Yes its possible
    Using RSCRM_BAPI TCode schedule the report based on your requirement i.e. daily, weekly...etc. And then dump the report result into one path (Directory) in Application Server.
    Create FTP/SFTP User ID in Application server level in BW System.

    Try doing this in your sql scripts
    set heading off
    set pagesize 0
    set linesize 4000
    set feedback off
    set verify off
    set trimespace on
    set colsep ","
    spool output.txt
    select * from dual (or whatever you are querying
    spool off
    There may be a couple other set statement that you could add but

  • How to upload the web query result  to CSV/Text file

    Hi,
    Kindly help me on the following.
    1)       I have info-provider (IP), which has info-objects "company code" and "supplier".
    2)       I built a query by putting company-code with a variable in free-charateristics and supplier-code in row.
    3)       When I run this query, it will ask company-code as input and the result will be filtered using company-code.
    4)       For this query, I created a web-template and assigned data-provider to display the data on the web.
    5)       The user wants to enter input company-code='1000' and write the data in a CSV file in a specific directory. i.e, by clicking the execute button (after entering company code) , the result should go to the CSV or text file. i.e. the application should automatically generate the file with query results.
    Note: The user should not use context menu to EXPORT TO CSV OR EXCEL file.
    Please let me know, if there is any tutorial. Thanks a lot advance help.
    Regards

    1. SELECT INTO
    Below method will create table when data is inserted from one table to another table. Its useful when you need exactly same datatype as source table.
    Use AdventureWorks2008R2;
    Go
    ---Insert data using SELECT INTO
    SELECT AddressLine1, City
    INTO BothellAddresses
    FROM Person.Address
    where City = 'Bothell';
    GO
    ---VERIFY DATA
    Select AddressLine1, City
    FROM BothellAddresses
    ---DROP TABLE
    DROP TABLE BothellAddresses
    GO
    2. INSERT INTO SELECT
    Below method will need table to be created prior to inserting data. Its really useful when table is already created and you want insert data from
    another table.
    Use AdventureWorks2008R2;
    Go
    ---Create Table
    CREATE TABLE BothellAddresses (AddressLine1 NVARCHAR(60), City NVARCHAR(30))
    ---Insert into above table using SELECT
    INSERT INTO BothellAddresses(AddressLine1, City)
    SELECT AddressLine1, City
    FROM Person.Address
    where City = 'Bothell';
    ---VERIFY DATA
    Select AddressLine1, City
    FROM BothellAddresses
    ---DROP TABLE
    DROP TABLE BothellAddresses
    GO

  • Retrieving BEx Query Results Area for use in Excel formulas

    Hello,
    I run BEx queries in workbooks and then use Excel formulas ( mostly VLOOKUP(LookupValue, ResultsArea, ColumnReturned,) ) to retrieve certain information from the query ResultsArea.
    ****Problem:
    Depending on the query parameters, the query "Results Area" is larger or smaller.
    ****Non-optimal solution:
    One way to define the  ever changing Excel range occupied by the Results Area is to create an Excel name as:
    QueryRange = OFFSET(QueryFirstCell,,,COUNTA(OFFSET(Sheet1!$A:$A,,COLUMN(QueryFirstCell)-1,,)),COUNTA(OFFSET(Sheet1!$1:$1,ROW(QueryFirstCell)-1,,,)))
    Then, the only input required is the top-left cell of the Results Area, which stays the same (unless the query definition changes).
    ****Question
    What is the best way to refer to an ever-changing query Results Area in an Excel formula?
    Thank you!
    Louis

    It is actually much easier than that.
    Use a VBA statement like the following:
    Set RptRng = ActiveCell.CurrentRegion
    This will retrieve the data in the Results Area, no matter what the size is.
    Hope this helps...

  • About exporting query result to excel

    Hi all,
    I take the report result to an excel file and at this point I am being asked for my user name and password of BW login, repeatedly for many times, based on the amount of data it contains. Its quite irritating, as i need to fill that each time, it asks for that. So kindly suggest me, how to deal with this.
    Regards,
    Naveen.A

    Hi Naveen,
    Not sure that understood what you exactly meant. But will try to help. When you execute query in BEx you can save a workbook detaching it from a server. In this case all reporting information will be kept without further updating from a server. The client will just open the wb and see all information. Certainly, he will not be able to make drilldowns. But for this you save your wb as a view with all drildowns already done.
    Best regards,
    Eugene
