Uppercase in filenames generated by RoboHelp

I developed (originally in RoboHelp HTML X5) and maintain
(now in X7) a FlashHelp system. (FYI that the fact that it's
FlashHelp is irrelevant to my problem.)
When my client's developers attempt to check in my source
files to their source code control system, they always complain
that some of the folders and filenames have mixed case. They want
everything in lowercase.
Specifically, they are complaining about:
-- a folder in which the images are stored. The folder is
Images. Is it capped because that's how I originally named it and
therefore I can change it (and the change will "stick")?
-- RoboHHRE.lng. They want to know if I can force RoboHelp to
write it as robohhre.lng?
-- eHlpDhtm.js. They want to know same. But I also wonder if
I even need this file anymore and can just nix it. I suspect it's
legacy.
-- eHelp.xml -- ditto above.
For my output, I have the set the Use Lowercase File Names
(Recommended for UNIX), but, obviously, that controls only output.
It is these source files that my developers are complaining
about.

Hi, Nita.
If you created the folder as Images, you can change it to
images. However, a quirk of RH, inherited from MS apparently,
prevents it from recognizing a change of case by itself. It might
be fixed now, but if you have a problem making the change stick,
change Images to Nita (or something), save the project, and change
Nita to images.
The RH furniture files are a different matter.
RoboHHRE.lng carries the alternative language settings. Since
you have the options of US or UK English, I don't know what would
happen if you deleted the file.
When RH puts a file in WebHelp output, there's a use for it
under one circumstance or another. eHlpDhtm.js is extremely
important if you have generated Applet and/or DHTML output.
Also, consider that these files are referenced in htm topics,
htm furniture, js and xml files whose origin is in the RH program
application folders.
It's easy enough to change the filenames after you generate
WebHelp, but I believe Unix will be unhappy unless you also change
all the references in the output as well.
Not too hard with search and replace after generating
WebHelp, but it shouldn't be too much trouble for your developers
to force all file names to lower case whenever they appear inside
< > brackets.
Probably they deal with this frequently and have a utility
they can use. Or they should be able to write a script of their
own.
Whether .jar and .cab files are involved here, I don't know.
I'm reluctant to advise doing this in the RH program files,
where there are DLL and other sorts of files, or in the project
folder, where the .cpb database file and others refer to them.
Good luck, and if you experiment in a backup copy of a
project, please report back on results.

  • Image Maps link not working in Acrobat 8 3D PDFs generated from RoboHelp 7

All of my hyperlinks work when I just generated my RoboHelp
project to PDF using RoboHelp 7 with the new Adobe Technical
Communications Suite (with Acrobat 8 3D). However, the links to
topics within the document didn't maintain from the image maps. I
had originally created flowcharts in Microsoft Visio, exported then
as .gifs, and imported them into topics in RoboHelp X5. Then I
created image maps from the boxes to topics in the RoboHelp
project. When I converted my project to RoboHelp 7 and generated
the PDF, all the links work great, except I don't get the
finger-pointing cursor when I hover over the boxes in the
flowcharts like I do with regular hyperlinks. Can someone please
    tell me why? Thanks!

Sigh... and this is why no one like to work with newbies...
Thank you for your help. I am embarrased to admit that this was the issue.

  • TOC Does Not Open in WebHelp Generated with RoboHelp 11

The TOC does not open in WebHelp Generated with RoboHelp 11. I tried other solutions posted on this forum but no success. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

    Hi Jeff,
Thanks for responding! I uninstalled and reinstalled RoboHelp 11 and the WeHelp appears to display OK now. BUT, I have graphics in my project that are not displaying, only the empty placeholder for the graphics. This was displaying fine in WebHelp generated with RoboHelp 9 but not now. I see the graphics when I do “Preview Topic” but not in the generated WebHelp. Any clues what is causing this behavior? How can I correct it?
My tables appear very strange too. They are the default table in RoboHelp with the raised gray/silver border. However, in WebHelp, the tables appear as double solid black lines for the border. The tables appear fine in the topic but when viewed via “Preview Topic” and WebHelp output, they are double black likes. Help!
Another thing is that I also get an occasional message about a topic that says “The reference to the file  contains illegal characters and will not be shown in Project Manager. How can this be? My css is valid and I use it in numerous help projects.
Once again, thanks so much for your willingness to help. It is much appreciated.

  • Webhelp generated from Robohelp 7 doesnot work fine with Google Chrome

Why is it that Webhelp generated from Robohelp 7 doesnot work fine with Google Chrome? Are there any issues with browser compatibility for Google Chrome? Please let me know how to fix it.

You don't say what you mean by "doesn't work." It doesn't open at all, it opens but doesn't work?
See Item 2 at http://www.grainge.org/pages/snippets/snippets.htm#browsers Likely that is the answer but if not there is a link to another Google Chrome item.

  • WebHelp search generated by RoboHelp 8 not working in Safari 5.0

    Hello,
I'm new to the forum, but have been lurking for a  while, and have benefitted greatly  from answers found here.  Thanks!
I use RoboHelp 8 HTML - recently upgraded from X5  - to generate WebHelp for a  cross-browser compatible web app.   I generate using the DHTML > Pure HTML  option, and Safari is using the DHTML  version. I use 'traditional style (no skin),' 'Optimize speed for: Local PC or  Intranet'.
The Help seems to work fine in Safari for Windows, but now with the recent  update to Safari 5.0, the Search functionality is not working at all. The search  tab displays properly, but upon entering text and pressing Enter, nothing  happens.  It works in all other major browsers, except Opera which gets the Pure HTML version, and there I hid the search tab all together because it's unacceptable in that state.
The only customization I've done is swap out the  tab images, and insert a little css to  hide (display:none;) the "limit search results to __" option as it was getting  cut off in every browser, and I couldn't figure out why, or how to fix  it.
Any ideas?  Anyone else seeing this?
    Thanks for your anticipated help!

    Hi there
    Your mention of:
I still think this deserves attention, and would like to hear what others think.
Seems to imply you feel I was attempting to make you shrug it off. I wasn't. I was attempting to coax you (and anyone else) to submit the Bug Report. You have no idea how critical this aspect is. I see you made no mention of doing that so I'm assuming you ignored the suggestion.
Many folks have the grossly mistaken belief that the Bug Report/Wish Form just sends information to a circular file where it is never acted upon or seen again and as a result, you have had your say and it makes you feel better for getting it off your chest. But these things are actually reviewed by the development team. Each and every one of them. You may not get a personal response for each one you submit, but sometimes you do!
As for changing the verbiage, click File > Project Settings > General and look at the LNG File tab of the ensuing dialog. You are able to influence all manner of verbiage in that little gem.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Word doc generated from RoboHelp 10 uses "Article" and "Section" as Prefixes in the TOC

I am generating a printed document, specifically a Word document from a RoboHelp 10 project. When I select Use Styles from Microsoft Word Template in the Print documentation Appearance dialog box, the TOC1 heading in the Word document is prefixed with "Article", the TOC 2 heading is prefixed with "Section", and TOC 3 is alpha numbered like this:
    Table of Contents
Article I.          The Protocol Probe 1
    Section 1.01     Welcome. 2
    (a)         About this Guide. 2
    Section 1.02     Product Overview.. 3
    (a)         Contacting Us. 3
Article II.      Install and Configure the Probe 3
Section 2.01     How to Install the Probe. 6
    Section 2.02     Overview.. 7
    Section 2.03     Server Installation. 8
    (a)         Warnings and Cautions. 8
    (b)         Warning: Adherence to Safety and Assembly Instructions. 8
This occurs whatever Word template I specify in RoboHelp. It does not occur if I select the Use Styles From Stylesheet checkbox. It also occurs if I generate a PDF.
When I update TOC in Word the correct numbering and styles I have specified are applied. However, I don’t want to have to do this every time I generate a Word document.
I have tried the following, all with the same result:
Specifying different Word templates in Robohelp
Creating a blank template in Word with minimum styles an specifying this template in RoboHelp
Recreating the TOC styles in Word
Re-installing the style mapping template in Robohelp
Looking thru the default mapping and other RoboHelp templates and CSS to see what might be causing the odd numbering.
I have just installed RoboHelp 10 (no previous version of RoboHelp on system) and have never encountered this problem with any version of RoboHelp before.
I cannot determine if it is Word or RoboHelp, or a combination of both, that is causing the problem.
I know that the prefixes that are generated in the Word TOC are defined by List Templates in Word; however there is no real way to edit these in Word as far as I can tell. As far as I can see, the TOC styles in the Word template do not have any specific numbering specified.
Has anyone encountered this problem before and found a solution? Or does anyone know how RoboHelp specifies the styles for TOC's for Word documents?
I am using Windows XP SP3, Word 2007 and RoboHelp 10.0.0.287.
    Thanks in advance.

RoboHelp will be using the template you selected as per your first post in the thread.

  • Name Exported PDFs with a filename generated from text frame on page

Does anyone have an idea how to do the following? We are on InDesign CS5 on a Mac running OSX 10.6
We are plan on creating a document of say 100 pages. On each page will be a photo of a product and some text frames. In one of the frames will be the product's SKU code - which we will enter manually.
What I want is that we can then export each page as a separate PDF and the filename of each PDF will be taken from the SKU code present in the text frame with .pdf appended.
Has anyone done something like this?
    Thanks

  • RoboHelp 10:Did Adobe change how RoboHelp 10 handles CSS stylesheets in the .htm files that are generated?

I work on Java application that utilitzes the .chm and .jar file (which include the .htm files) to display our applications help documentation. We recently upgraded from RoboHelp 8 to RoboHelp 10. The .htm files that were generated with RoboHelp 8 display fine. However, the new .htm files generated by RoboHelp 10 seem to ignore the CSS stylesheets used. I compared one of the .htm files from RoboHelp 8 to the same .htm file in RoboHelp10. I did notice differences within the files. Can you tell me what the differences are, regarding the usage of CSS stylesheets, between RoboHelp 8 & RoboHelp 10?
    Thank you.

Not sure but I believe it may be a bug in the Microsoft Help Compiler over which Adobe have no control. Microsoft last updated in 2004. Good luck!

  • RoboHelp 9-Not All Files Generating for FlashHelp

I am generating a FlahHelp layout in RoboHelp 9. I have lines of business for Commercial Insurance in my documentation. One particular line of business (Professional) generates within RoboHelp when I generate the FlashHelp layout and displays correctly, but when I go into C:/RoboHelp FIles and locate the folder for the documentation and go into the !SSL! folder and then into the FlashHelp folder, Professional is not there.
It does display correctly for all other layouts I generate.
    This just recently started happening.
I have another guide with basically the same information in it and also generate a FlashHelp layout. Professional generates correctly on that guide and the files within the !SSL! folder display correctly.
    What would cause this problem?
    Thank you,

Check that you are looking at the right location. Open up your FlashHelp SSL properties and make sure that the path in the Output Folder and Start Page option is where you are looking. If this is not the problem, can you please post an image of what you are seeing to help us further.

  • RoboHelp 10 generates Webhelp that does not display well in Google Chrome

We use RoboHelp 10 and create WebHelp which we post on a webserver. The TOC Index, Search / navigation panes do not display any content. If we generate a version with the "Pure HTML" option instead of the "DHTML" option the navigation panes do show the content, but we would rather not take this route because other functions still don't work properly.
It happens regardless of the contents of the helpfile.
No relevant JavaScript errors show in the console.
We found various tricks that claim to solve this issue but at least for RoboHelp 10 they don't work.

Only Adobe can answer the first question but I would not recommend holding your breath! Please do submit a bug report as otherwise there is no chance of a fix. Please follow this link.
    http://www.Adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform&product=38
I have not tested the method using a CHM generated from RoboHelp for Word so I cannot give you that assurance. However, I cannot see why it would be any different and the links work whenever I have reverse engineered a CHM.
The downside of course is any build tags will be lost as your source will be just whatever was in the output.
The process only takes a short while so it's worth a try.

  • Robohelp v9 crashes when generating Webhelp from linked FM book

    Hello Robohelp mavens!
    My environment:  Win7, FM v10, Robohelp v9. (TCS v3)
I've linked an FM book (containing 90 files) to a blank Robohelp project. Whenever I try to generate Webhelp, Robohelp crashes at some point.
As part of debugging, I clean the FM book (removed unused Pgf/char formats, conditions, etc.). That did not help.
Any idea why Robohelp gives up in the middle?
    Any input is highly appreciated!
    My best regards,
    Roman

Do you get any kind of error message in the output pod? Does it always crash on a specific file?
Does it work if you remove half of the files from the book? A quarter? Etc.?

  • Can I publish my RoboHelp project directly to a web server using the Generate Primary Layout (WebHelp) function?

I am hoping to improve my method of publishing my company
    Knowledge Base.
Currently, I generate the RoboHelp layout to a folder on my
local computer and then manually upload the project output files to
our sever via SmartFTP. My question is how do I publish directly to
    the server? Is this possible?
On the first page of the Generate Primary Layout "wizard", I
have entered the path to a local folder on my computer. Three
screens later in the Servers box of the "wizard", I have entered a
server and path, and checked its box. When I generated the output,
I expected it to be published to both locations: the local folder
and the web server folder. But it only publishes to the local
    folder, not the web server.
How do I get it publish to the server also?
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
    ~Beth

I had been using the HTTP setting, so switched to FTP and
filled in server info. This time the Publish function began
working! However, the process has since hit a snafu.
Certain files are causing errors and I'm getting a message
    such as this one:
Publishing has been cancelled. Failed to create file: image
    235.jpg
When I click OK to the first error message, I then get this
    one:
Publishing has been cancelled. Failed to create file:
    bsscftp.txt
After clicking OK to the 2nd error msg, the Publish fails and
    I get this:
Warning: Failed to publish to "help". reason: Canceled by
    user.
I have run through the Publish a couple times now and various
files cause the 1st error, but the 2nd file is always that same txt
file. I realize this snafu may be particular to my situation but
    any ideas?

  • How to generate a TOC in Rh8 based on a structured Fm9 book

    Hi,
After linking a structured FrameMaker 9 book in RoboHelp 8, is it possible to generate a RoboHelp TOC with the same folder structure?
For example, let's say you've created a structured Fm book which consists of several DITA (XML) topics organized into folders, as shown below.
After linking the book in Rh, is there a way to automatically generate a TOC with the same folder structure, as shown below? The TOC should remain linked, so that any changes you make to the Fm book will also be reflected in the TOC after you update the book in Rh.
Note: As RJ Jacquez demonstrated in Linking FrameMaker 9 Books in RoboHelp 8 via Adobe Technical Communication Suite, this can be achieved with unstructured books and documents by using a TOC generated in Fm. However, if you attempt to use this method with structured documents (such as DITA files), the generated TOC is flattened, i.e., the folder structure is lost.
Does anyone have any ideas or solutions?
PS: I am using the Adobe Technical Communications Suite 2.

    Hi there,
When you linked the book in Robohelp, in project manager pod just right click in the linked book and go to properties. There you have an option to select the TOC.
    Hope that helps
    Thanks

  • File Adapter Module - Change name of Generated File

    Hello all,
My customer has XI v3.0 SP9. For the moment an upgrade is not envisaged.
Since SP14 it is possible to dynamically change filename generated with receiver File adapter. This is done with a manipulation during mapping and a configuration in adapter.
