Upstream pkg-config Depend and Installed Version Descrepancies

Hi,
I'm attempting to update the AUR package for gnome-gmail-notifier to agree to the latest release upstream. The problem is, that the upstream configure script checks for the dependancy libsoup-2.2 using pkg-config. In an up to date Arch install however, there does not exist a libsoup-2.2.pc file. Instead, we have libsoup-2.4.pc.
In this case, the dependancy is technically met, but the configure script fails anyways. In the Arch Linux world, how is this discrepancy properly handled? Upstream? Is there something to handle this in the context of the PKGBUILD file?
I know how to fix this for myself, on this machine. I'm more curious how the folks of Arch that want to make a proper package would handle this.
Cheers,
~djc

Just to not leave this thread hanging, I decided to use sed to edit the configure.ac file in the PKGBUILD build() function. Does the trick, but I'm not sure it's the proper way. I do see sed being used for many modifications in other packages, however, so I'll run with this solution for now

I was advised to uninstall previous version of iTunes from my computer and install version 7 in order for the program to recognize my apple devices but I need to know if I will lose my library?

iTunes  7 is about 7 years old.  Almost certainly your devices would not be recognized.  Could you possibly mean 10.7?
It would be useful to know if you are using a Mac or Windows.
Upgrading software normally does not affect the library.  Still, there are weekly complaints by users who say they have lost something while updating so you should make sure you have a backup of your computer before updating any software at all.

  • [ SOLVED ] pkg-config package and yaourt fails

    hi,
I am using yaourt to install packages from the AUR.
Everytime i try to install a package that requires pkgconfig as a dependancy yaourt downloads pkg-config and installs it even though I already have this package installed.
After installing pkg-config, yaourt outputs the message:
Install or build missing dependencies for <packagename>:
were packagename is the name of the package i was trying to install. It then goes back to the prompt
I am running arch64. How can i fix this?
This is an example of the entire process. I am trying to install gnome-globalmenu.

xfce4 supported. Just edit in the PKGBUILD (configure line): from '--with-gnome-panel' to '--without-gnome-panel --with-xfce4-panel'.
Will work fine! :) Tkx dottorblaster!

Updating yaourt fixed it. What happened was that before i knew what the AUR was - i had installed a lot of community supported repos. After installing youart i removed the community supported repos because i thought i didn't need them.
I didn't realise that yaourt was not in the official repositories, so the package was never able to upgrade.
yaourt should be in the official repos.
Thanks a lot for your help.

  • How do I download and install version 6.21.0.104?

I hate these "downloaders" because they always fail, no one ever provides an offline installer anymore, most likely because they want to prevent people from being able to archive an old version for use later when the company like Skype/Microsoft decides to screw all it's users by deleting older versions from downloading. I tried to use http://filehippo.com/download_skype/58884/ , but it didn't work. I am tired of using the new skype because I realize the skype developers refuse to listen to the community when they keep saying that they don't want to use a phone style skype on their computers.  As it is right now, every single action line ( /me post ) is centered, and takes up 3 entire lines even if it's a one liner.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Vas pokes at

Click Here for Fullview-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------And the, there's this bubble crap.  It's just terrible.  It takes up so much space too, and is basically just like using skype on your phone.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Click Here for Fullview-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This is an old thing, I use a smaller font and such now but it does look much nicer, more like a messenger than a phone app.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Click Here for Fullview-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Now then. I need to know how to download and install that version of skype because it was the last good release that Skype devs ever released. Likely the last good release they'll ever release. Unless they decide to listen to the community at all. I don't mind some change, but making the chat take more and more space without giving users an option is not ok. I also need to know how to make it so that the update thing doesn't pop up every 12 hours begging me to downgrade my skype to 7.#.
Click Here for FullviewIf Skype developers are going to consider anything from my post, consider making an option to revert text chat area of the application to what it was like in 6.21, including /me style things so that users can role play and talk in a nice normal messenger style tool. Also, would be nice to have a simple option to click in order to disable *bold*, because people don't want to go find some god forsaken file hidden somewhere on the hard drive to edit it and change one line somewhere in it from a one to a zero or whatever I did ages ago that I can no longer remember now.

  • How to Uninstall Old Versions and Install Version 6 Update 13 of Java

When I try to install Version 6 Update 13 (tried it by downloading file and doing a manual install), get this message:
bin\awt.dll:Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match.
Have tried to unintall Version 12 from "Add/Remove Programs" with no luck.
Shall I unistall all Java programs and try to reinstall?

    Bailey,
This is a bit of a pain the arrse but... I suggest you disable java in all your browsers in (tools ~ options) and then reboot to ensure the java plugin is not loaded. Now try uninstalling through add-remove-programs.
If add-remove-programs doesn't work then manually delete the JRE & JDK directories in windows explorer and then run a registry-cleaner (google it, there's a few good free ones, I use registry-mechanic and crapcleaner (yes that's really what it's called)) to clean-up dangling guids, etc. Also check add-remove-programs... if any of the old Java installs still appear then try uninstalling.. they should throw some sort of "installation not found" error and remove themselves from the programs list.
Once all the old versions of Java have been removed then install the latest version, which should install it's plugins in your browser(s) and activate itself... look in (tools ~ options) again.
Check your PATH, JAVA_HOME, etc environment variables... just type "set" at the command prompt... update them to point to your new JRE (and your new JDK if you have one).
If you have a CLASS_PATH variable I recommend you copy&paste it's value into a desktop/class_path.txt and delete the variable, coz it's worse than useless.
    Cheers. Keith.

  • Why hace had to download and install version 13.02a about 15 times?

i have aurora installed on my htc rezound and every day it asks me to download and install update 13.02a

    Hi,
Thanks for using Aurora! We are rebuilding the Firefox app as you know, so the code is actually changing every day with new improvements for performance and flash, panning and zooming and features.
So, thanks again for helping us out by testing Aurora on your android phone, you've helped us to make it better by installing and using those builds! Sorry for the frequent updates. The version number doesn't change, but you should see the date associated with the build on the about:aurora page that identifies it.
Coming up this Friday we will have another big push to Aurora for the beta release, at which point updates should slow back down to weekly for Aurora. We hope to have the new app in beta the first week of May.
    Best Regards,
    Michelle

  • I downloaded and installed version 4.0 and would like to return to my version 3.6

When I opened my Firefox Browser, I was instructed that there was an upgrade available, and would I like to install the "newer" version.
I did, and I would prefer to have my 3.6 version rather than the newer 4.0. Many applications were not able to be transferred along with the upgrade, such as AVG.

To downgrade to Firefox 3.6.* you can uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install Firefox 3.6.* available from http://www.mozilla.com - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.
For details of how to find your profile folder see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles

  • Uncompress .pkg.tar.xz and install result without pacman

Can the pacman packages be untarred and stored ready to install by either pacman or otherwise...probably otherwise?
Purpose, to reduce access time for package installs, which pacman must untar before installing.  These untarred packages would be used in a "live" ram system from flash storage devices.
    Any way to do this?

    file:///media/disk/cache2/untar/avahi-0.6.27-2-x86_64.pkg
This file in flash has three folders, Etc, usr and var.  It was extracted from the .pkg.tar.xz.
This is the situation that needs a means to install the .pkg listed above, used as an example.
I assume that it is ready for install since it has been untarred.

  • Can I uninstall the latest version of itunes  and install a earlier version that I preferred

I am using win 7 and Itunes 11.1.12. Can I uninstall this version and install version 10 which I preferred Any suggestions appreciated Thanks

You and thousands of others if you search..
What I did; Found my back up of the 10.7 installer.  You may have to locate a site on the web to find yours...sorry.
I used W7 unistaller to completely remove 11.  I made a back up of the media, music only, folder,  this depends on how and where you configured iTunes to store your tunes.
I then simply installed 10.7 then pointed to backed up music folder to read and sort musik back into the itunes folder. I only did that to ensure there no problems when everything back up.  Everything good!
Now, many people are have problems with iphones and devices depending on what was synced while in 11, such as cannot sync with older data base and such.  Hopefully others can help you if your in that catagory.

  • ITunes Version 6 and Quicktime version 7.0.3

I am able to run the install for iTunes + Quicktime from the site and when I save it on the hardrive. I'm on a PC running Windows XP. The portion that installs iTunes seems to go through fine, but once the installation for Quicktime is done I get an error. "Quicktime installation failed: Error Code: -1". I then get the error "1628: Failed to Complete Operation." I was able to download and install version 7.0.2 of Quicktime, but I get the message that iTunes requires version 7.0.3 or later when I try to open iTunes. I'm not sure where to go from here. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I see no one got to reply, but as a FYI to anyone who is haves the same issue, I got the issue corrected. I downloaded and installed the stand-alone version of Quicktime 7.0.3 and then it was fine. Good luck to all that are having similar issues.
