UsageTracker Folder in preventing C7-00 software ...

Have attempted to upgrade my C7-00 from Symbian Anna 024.001 to Nokia Belle on Nokia Suite 3.8.30 without any success. When Nokia Suite backs up the phone, a folder called UsageTracker, found on all three memories (phone, mass & memory card) prevents the backup. Deleting the folders on Mass Mem & Mem Car is possible, but on the Phone Memory it's write-protected. The folder also self-populates on the other two memories almost immediately after they've been deleted. I don't find any applications that may be tracking usage on the phone.
Please see attached screenshot of error message in Nokia Suite when app attempts to backup documents on the phone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately you can't restore your device to its previous version once you have installed Symbian Anna.
You haven't specified whether the text you keep receiving is from Nokia or from another source.

How To: Lock a folder to prevent it being deleted but still access it?

How can I lock a folder to prevent it from being moved or trashed but still have access to move/add folders within that folder?
The scenario is that we have a daily jobs folder and a final jobs folder. The daily jobs folder was accidently moved into an active job folder. I want these folders locked down so this cannot happen but when I use the lock feature nothing can be moved in or out of that folder.
Under OS9 the locked box specifically said "cannot move, rename or delete this item" yet you could add or delete items to that folder all day long.
If I try this with OSX I need to authenticate each bloody time! I just want to lock a folder down and have it accessable by anyone, anywhere, anytime without the need to type a password 80 times a day. HELP ME PLEEZE

Read only access will prevent the addition or removal of items in the folder you set the permissions on; the folders below that one have different access settings, which can be less restrictive than those for the folder you set it on.
For example, if folder A contains B and C, and B allows Read & Write access but A allows Read Only access, items can be added and removed from B, but B itself cannot be moved out of A, and other items cannot be moved in to or out of A. If a folder your account has Read access to is inside a folder which your account doesn't, you can use the Finder's Go to Folder command in the Go menu to navigate to it if its path is known.

ACLs for Hiding Folder and Preventing Opening of Files

I thought I had a reasonable understanding of ACLs, but the behavior of OS X afp shares baffles me.
I need to do two things:
Hide selected directories within a share from all members of a group. They should be unable to see that these folders even exist.
Prevent members of a group from opening files on a share, while allowing them the ability to copy the files. The idea is to force them to copy files to local storage in order to open them.
I'm clear the deliberately crippled control over ACLs Server.app provides is likely insufficient to the task (really? no deny capability? ***?). My attempts to deny all privileges using the command line look good on paper, but in practice create bizarre effects whent the client views the share, such as the denied folders appearing to be inaccessible replications of the containing sharepoint.
Advice will be much appreciated.
I running Server 3.0.2 under 10.9.1. All the client systems are running 10.9.1.

Mac OS X is a form of Unix operating system. Unix originally used a permissions scheme which only allows defining Read, Write and eXecute permissions, for the Owner, the Group, and 'Everyone'. This is generally referred to as 'POSIX' permissions.
With POSIX permissions you could set a folder to not have write access but this means they cannot create new files, you could set it to not have eXecute permission but this means users could not view its contents. In otherwords POSIX does not have the flexibility you need.
Because of the limitations of the POSIX style permissions, a new much more powerful scheme was developed called Access Control Lists (ACLs). Mac OS X supports this scheme as well and in fact for Mac OS X 10.5 or later it is the preferred choice. With ACLs you have three main categories of permission, Admin, Read, and Write. Each of these has sub-levels of permission. In your case, one of the sub-permissions of Write is to allow (or disallow) the ability to delete files or sub-folders.
Therefore what you need to do is run Server Admin on your server, go to Sharing at the top of the Window, and then select the folder you want to adjust the permissions for, you then need to define who can and who cannot delete the contents.
Note: A folder will always have POSIX permissions listed but might initially have no ACLs defined. Once you define an ACL permission, it will always override any POSIX permissions, you can then ignore any POSIX permissions.

Config.msi and folder permission preventing Installation

Please help - i have been using iTunes for many years and i was extremely happy with the product unitl recently. I tried to update the version of iTunes but it returned an error and asked me to download the manual version. this was completed and run (as an administrator) where i was again given an eror - you do not have permission to J:\config.msi Checking the permissions i noted that the folder only had read permisssion, this was changed and the install run again. the same error occured. I check the folder's permissions and it hadd reverted back to read only access!
I went to extremes - i uninstalled ALL apple products as per instruction on your site (discussion post - Topic: can't install 7.6 due to config.msi access error message)- restarted the machine - ensured that the file were not present, then tried again SUPRISE - it did not work - same error! this has been repeated and i am now at a complete loss.
Please help as my ipod is now an expensive paper weight!

I was able to fix this issue. I went into the task manager and ended the msiexec.exe processes. There were a few of them already active when I looked in the task manager, so I just ended all of them. One of them will be tied to the installer you're trying to use, but that's okay, just try to install it again once you have ended all of the msiexec.exe processes, and it should work.

How to prevent this IRRITATING software from launching

Adobe Photoshop Starter Edition 3.2 was installed the last time I accepted the upgrade to Acrobat reader or somehow that I do not recall. Now it launches on its own when I connect a camera or a disk drive or any memory card that has photos on it and it must consume computer resources. I do not want this. I have tried to fin out how to change the setting but this company has produced software that cannot be easily controlled, entering the realm of Malicious software. Does anyone know how to stop it?

Like Howard Strateman, I find so very very annoying that there is no option to turn off Adobe Photoshop Starter Edition 3.2 opening automatically directly any camera or card reader is attached. I do not want to remove the program completely (though I may have to unless someone offers a solution) I just do not want it taking control of my computer (Windows PC) every time there is a JPEG in sight.
I guess there is someplace in the Registry that can be edited, but I am very anxious about making manual changes in the Registry.
If Adobe won't provide an answer, please can someone help us (there must be many thousands of us) who feel let down that a trusted software company like Adobe encourages us to download free software that hi-jacks our computer without express permission.

Why Does Apple Store Software Updates in the Windows 7 'Roam' folder?

I noticed that the Software Updates are being stored in the 'Roam' folder for the Windows 7 user profile. Any comments on why that may be? And is there any way to change it so that these updates live in the 'local' folder, to prevent long login/logoff times?

Trying to delete the Apple Folder from Program Files/Common Files. I can delete all the contents except for the Internet Services folder which prevents me from making the deletion. The error message says "you need permission to delete this file".
Discovered this problem when trying to upgrade from my 3G iPhone to a new 5S iPhone unsucessfully.

Is there a way to prevent or "lock" a folder from being copied on a mac?

I am Copying over a few folders to a friend of mine and I would like to "lock" out the folder to prevent him from giving out and sharing the contents of that folder. Is there any way to make that happen? Maybe something that will "require" a password when you want to copy the folder?
Creating an encrypted .dmg is not an option.

If I were to create an ecrypted .DMG the folder will not automatically show up. I would have to give him the password which would defeat the purpose. unless i can encrypt it and make it read only?
I tried to lock out the folder but it will not lock.

I am facing problem with my uploading software it is a automatic process of uploading only user copy the file in hot folder of my software and software takes the file one by one automatically and start uploading on destination and it also shows the name and size of file on text area of my swing my interface for user information which file it is uploading.Now my problem is when user copy the file from network computer in that folder in between copy my software shows the file name and size(which is incomplete size)on text area of swing interface and after completion of copy it shows the complete size and name of same file again.But it couldn't read the file coz sharing violation.My software checks its folder for file every after 30 seconds and I have done it by therads.I want to prevent my software so that it can't take the file name and size in between copy of that file means it can't show name and size of incomplete file.Can any one plz guide me how i can do that.Iam pasting those portion of my codes:-

On JDK 1.4 you could try to lock the file (via java.nio.channels.FileLock). But be warned: It is not supported on all platforms. I think there was an article about nio covering file locking on www.onjava.com (I was right: Just googled and found http://www.onjava.com/pub/a/onjava/2002/10/02/javanio.html ).

HT1343 how can I open an empty file (Word, Excel, Texedit, ...) in a given folder that is already open on my desktop ?

The .ascm file format is a standard that was agreed upon by the industry
some ten or more years ago, and it's used by most, if not all, of the
epublication programs that are in use now. That includes the Overdrive
software that libraries stateside use most of the time. If you're having
this issue with more than one library, I'd check out one other area before
I give up. If you have Windows 7 as your operating system, some of its
security settings can prevent the library software from activating ADE on
your computer. I'm an XP person, so I can't pinpoint which ones to look
at, but there are others reading the blog that may be able to help you.
The library's technical support people may be able to help also.
You're incorrect on expecting ADE to find the ,ascm file on your computer.
That file should exist only during the transfer, and I believe that there
are some expiration parameters inside the file, so you have only a small
window of time to use it. Remember that this file type is only a 'pointer'
- it's not an ebook.
Bottom line? This issue is quite rare on the forum, and there are
literally thousands of other users who don't have this issue. It's not the
product. If you are indeed 'fed up' with the ADE experience, you can look
into other epublication management software: Bluefire Reader, Overdrive
(which most libraries seem to use) and Calibre would be possibilities.

Firefox 15.1 storing Downloads in Temp folder despite being set to save into Downloads?

OK so I'm running Windows 7 64 Bit and Mozilla Firefox 15.1
Downloads is set to save to "Downloads" but, they are in fact saving to a firefox temp folder?
checked the about:config and browser.download = C:\...\Downloads
I read an answer on here that said "Disable Real Time AV Scanning??? are you serious? all those hackers out there and you want me to turn off my AV?
Please can you provide a suitable answer to this query.

If the anti-virus software is scanning the file while it is still in the temp folder and keeps an handle on it then Firefox won't be able to move the file from the temp folder to the destination folder.<br />
Your AV software should still scan the file if you try to start it or open the file in another application if real-time scanning is disabled.<br />
You can also try to exclude the temp folder, so the scanning will be done once Firefox moves the file to the destination folder and not during the download phase.

Importing Bookmarks from an HTML Folder

I had to have a new hard drive install. The tech created a file call old back up which have all of my bookmarks in a HTML folder call favorites. Is there any way to import the whole folder into firefox 4.0 I can go in and do them one at a time, but I would rather just do the folder because it is already organize with subfolders.

The file that stores bookmarks may be locked or damaged which is preventing them from being deleted. Try deleting places.sqlite as shown on this site - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite
Firefox will try to import bookmarks from a backup when you restart Firefox. If you do not want that to happen, in the profile folder where you found places.sqlite, there will be a folder called bookmarkbackups containing a few files with extension .json, delete all of those files. Also delete or rename bookmarks.html in the profile folder to prevent Firefox trying to import bookmarks from that file.

Unable to atttach file from folder

For some reason I can't attach files from my Photoshop folder ( One I created in my Ext HD that contains PS files ) to emails.
I can attach files from other folders in the Ext HD ( Photostudio, eg. ) and I can attach files that are not in folders that are located in my Ext HD.
I dragged a file from the Photoshop folder to my desktop and was able to attach it to an email.
When I try to attach from the Photoshop folder the "selection box" pop ups. I'll click on the Ext HD and scroll to the PS folder. When I click on the folder after a while Mail will quit. I've sent several reports to Apple.
Got any suggestions?

I'm not an expert at this but I think it is because you have to attach individual files from the folder to the email not the folder. I would also think that the size of the folder would prevent you from sending it via email. Most email accounts are limited to a max of 10MB per email.
When I looked through Peachpit Learning Series it refers to attaching files or photographs not folders. You can hold down the Command key to click on and select more than one file or photo to attach.

Can't print since last epson driver update from Software Update

I have a Epson Workforce 600 connected wirelessly which was working just fine until I installed the driver update yesterday which was provided via Software Update. Now, I can print a test page via the Epson Software and my computer can see the printer but when I hit the "print" button on print dialogs, nothing happens. It's very strange, it seems as if the click isn't even recognized.
I've tried printing from multiple programs and it's all the same. Only printing a test page from the Epson software works at this point. Any suggestions?

The probable cause of this is that the /Library/Caches/Epson folder is missing.
There are several threads here about this issue with Epson printers: try deleting the <hard drive>/Library/Printers/EPSON folder and then reinstalling the software through Software Update or from the Apple download site. After installing the software, restart, delete and re-add the printer. That should recreate the /Library/Caches/Epson folder, and you should be able to print.

Officejet Pro 8500 A909g Scan-To-Network-Folder Problem On New Dell Optiplex 3020

I hope that I am posting this issue to the correct board.
I recently purchased a Dell Optiplex 3020 64-bit desktop running Windows 7 Pro. My home network now has the old HP printer and my original 2003 vintage Sony Vaio XP Home 32-bit on wired connections. There is also an HP Notebook 64-bit running Windows 7 Home, using a WiFi connection. I replaced a Linux clone (which had connected ok to the printer) with the new Dell on the same wired connection.
With the other 2 PCs, I was able to set up Scan To Network Folder using the original HP software with no problems. I used a current setup file from the HP site to set up the Dell. The file is: "OJP 8500vA909_Full_14 HP Webpack". The Dell prints fine, but when I try to set up the network scan folders on the Dell the setup stalls and I get a request for an SSL certificate. I don't know if this is being generated by the OS or by the HP setup file that I downloaded. I can't figure out how to get the network folders to work on the new Dell, and I know next to nothing about SSL.
To be clear, the old Sony is a 32-bit Windows Home Edition, the HP notebook is Windows 7 Home 64-bit, and the new Dell is Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Sometime soon, the Sony will be retired and the OS environment will become much simpler.
While I'm at it, I probably should update the printer firmware. However, my guess is that I should wait to do that until the old 32-bit Sony goes out to pasture.

As far as I know, you have posted your issue to the correct board, now let us see what we can do to get it resolved
I will answer your easier question first, in regards to the firmware. You can update the firmware whenever you are ready! You don't need to wait for the other computer to reach it's end, as the firmware is just within the hardware of the printer and shouldn't affect anything software wise on the computer, so go ahead and update the firmware when you have a few minutes!
As for the setting up to scan to a network folder, it is odd that it's asking for SSL, do you know if you're the administrator on the new computer?
I realize the instructions in this Set up and Use Direct Digital Filing for Windows document are for setup, but still have a look and make sure that is how things were going for yourself. Also, it may be a good idea to check any firewalls or anti-virus that you have and temporarily disable any firewalls or programs that could be blocking things over the network.
