Use of "PSA in Char format" option in data source

Hi,
When I am looking in to the datasource in SAP BW, I have seen the option "PSA in Char format",what is the differnce between the data loading into the PSA with char format or with typed structure.
Are we not able to correct data in the PSA if we have not selected that option ?

Hi Rahul,
Please check Point no 2 in the below link:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw73/helpdata/en/4a/1be8b2aece044fe10000000a421937/content.htm.
You will be able to do it.

  • Data in PSA content is different than the data source

    Dear Experts,
I am using Process chain to update info cube from data source of a z table.  In the process chain, the PSA request request step is having the PSA table number of the correct data source. The info package and the DTP also have the correct data source.
But after executing the process chain, the info cube is not updated with the required data source. It is updated with data from some other data source which is belonging to a different custom table.
I have checked the Extraction of the data source in RSA3. This is extracting from correct data source. But when I check PSA contents through process monitor in process chain log for DTP, I found the  PSA content data is different from the data source.
I am totally confused, how this is possible. Can anybody advise me to troubleshoot and fix this issue.
    Thanks and regards
    Murugesan

    Dear Igor,
The PSA request is being deleted in a previous step prior to loading the info package.  I can see every time when I run the process  chain, the old request number is deleted and a new request number is created.
Still the same issue is persisting.
I also observed one more thing that the second time when we repeat the same process chain, the correct data source data is loaded in the info cube and PSA table. Only during the first time, the PSA table and Info cube  it is not updating with the right data.
    thanks and regards

  • SQL ENTERPRISE: The edition of Reporting Services that you are using requires that you use local SQL Server relational databases for report data sources and the report server database

The error below makes absolutely no sense! I'm using Enterprise Core...yet I'm being told I can't use remote data sources:
w3wp!library!8!03/05/2015-19:08:48:: i INFO: Catalog SQL Server Edition = EnterpriseCore

    Services that you are using requires that you use local SQL Server relational databases for report data sources and the report server database." is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services.;
Really? This totally contradicts the documentation found here:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms157285(v=sql.110).aspx
That article says remote connections are completely supported.
ARGH! Why does this have to be so difficult to setup?!?

    Hi jeffoliver1000,
According to your description, you are using Enterprise Core edition and you are prompted that you can’t use remote data sources.
In your scenario, we neither ignore your point nor be doubt with what you say. But actually we have met the case before that even though the SQL Server engine is Enterprise but the reporting services is still standard. So I would recommend you to find the
actual edition of reporting services you are using. You can find Reporting Services starting SKU in the Reporting Service logs ( default location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\<instance name>\Reporting Services\LogFiles). For more information,
please refer to the similar thread below:

By the way, have you installed the other SQL Server edition before?

  • Change default date format of reports data source

    Hi all,
I need to convert an ugly EBS standard charactermode report (Oracle Reports) into the Xml-Publisher format. I'd like to use the existing report as the xml data source as all data is available in the old report.
The problem is that the date format used by reports is determined by NLS_DATE_FORMAT (et al). This date format unfortunately is not xml compliant (dd.mm.yyyy in our case) and so Xml-Publisher date related features (e.g. sort by date) will not work .
The report/template is submitted via the submit concurrent request form.
Is there a way to make the underlying reports produce xml conformant dates without resorting to wild substring operations in the template or changing the EBS standard report?
    Thanks
    Christoph

    RajaramanV wrote:
Can i change the nls parameter of a particular column(date field) in a table?if i set that it is apllied to all the tables in the database..No. Please understand that all dates, in all tables are stored in the same, oracle-defined, format. NLS_date_format affects how that internal date is converted to a character string for presentation to humans, or how to interpret a character string (received ,ultimately, from a human) for conversion to that internal format. It (NLS_DATE_FORMAT) can be set at several levels, but table/column is not one of them.
Please read the link I posted in my earlier response. It will clear up your confusion.

  • Ports Crystal Reports uses when Connecting to a Universe as a Data Source

I have a couple of Crystal Reports that use universes as a data source.  On my Windows 7 machine I am getting an error message that "Logon Failed", rather opening and running the same report on my Windows XP machine, I get the results from the universe as expected.  I have tried multiple universes that report against different databases (Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, etc) and I am getting the same vague error message on my Windows 7 machine with Crystal Reports 12.3.0.601.
Can someone please tell me what ports are being used within Crystal Reports (other than 6400) when connecting to the CMS and pulling back data from a universe?  The odd thing, is that I can connect to the CMS, see the universes that I have permissions too and even see the objects within the universe, but I cannot view the results.  This is a pretty high priority for us, so I would appreciate any feedback possible.

    Hello,
"Seems contrary to the concept of isolating users (in this case designers) from connection details. I can only be hopeful that report users will not also have to have connections configured on the local workstations to view these reports ;-)"
As long as you use/set Saved Data with the reports then they don't need the client installed. If they hit Refresh to update the data then obviously they need to be able to connect to the data source, how else are they going to get it.
Think about it, you sit down to write a report off of a database you don't have access to? How are you going to create a report....
If you planning on sending out reports for viewing only then export them to PDF or some other type, then DB connections are not an issue, the PDF's are for viewing only.
Another concept is DB Security. Using NT Authentication or DB Authentication unless that user hitting the refresh button has access to the DB it won't prompt for log on info or if they don't provide the correct log on info they can't see new data.
It's all about security, CR does not save the Password in the RPT file, if we did anyone could get it and hack your database.
Not sure what your post has to do with Ports?
If you have questions then please post, in this forum we assume post that are answered are closed.

    Hello all,
I have SQL express 2014 advance edition installed ..

while creating datasource in Reportserver which has Express installed ..
    got this error ..
please help me how to connect to remote server

    Error message says it all.
With SQL Express, Data source should be local SQL DB.
With SQL Enterprise, Standard, BI edition, you can create Data soruce which are hosted on other servers.

  • Problem using JRC 2.0 on Unix with xml data source

    Hello,
I am experimenting difficulties using the JRC 2.0 (which I hadn't with the previous version) on a RedHat 4 machine. It takes 7 minutes (only 20 seconds on Windows) to create a pdf (1 page) from a simple report using an xml file as data source.
It takes approximately 2 minutes when opening the report
          > reportClientDoc.open(REPORT_NAME, 0);
then 4 minutes are required to connect the report to the xml data source
          > reportClientDoc.getDatabaseController().setDataSource(xml_ds, "", "");
Have you got any clue on possible reasons for this issue ?

  • Need to give internal & external format while creating Data Source

    Hi Experts,
Plz share some knowledge for internal and external format in field Tab while creating datasource.
when we will give internal format and External format?
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards.
    Alok

    Hi Alok,
External format is the format for the External data. The external format needs to be converted into Internal format and for that you have to use a conversion exit say for example Alpha conversion routine.
For further details please go through the below link,

  • Error -25596 when trying to connect to use the Informix Online Server native data source

    Hi All,
We currently use a very old version on crystal (v9) and have recently downloaded the current version (14.1.1.1036) in order to investigate the effort involved in upgrading.
In the past we have always connected to our IBM Informix Server using the native Crystal Reports Informix Online Server data source, but all attempts with the current version of Crystal Reports are failing with error -25596.
The error is reported by Informix and it has this description:
-25596  The INFORMIXSERVER value is not listed in the sqlhosts file or the
    Registry.
The default database server name that the INFORMIXSERVER environment
variable specifies must be a valid database server name in the file
$INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts on UNIX or the registry on Windows. Check
that the specified server is listed in the sqlhosts file or the
    registry.
However, I'm of the opinion that the server is known and is configured OK (it's configured using the Informix SetNet32 application and it has resulted in this registry key being populated:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Informix\SqlHosts\prod1_devdb1 (NB: prod1_devdb1 is the name of the server I am trying to connect to).
I can create ODBC datasources on my PC and they work OK.  I can also run our legacy VB6 application (using the Crystal 9 COM objects) and connect using the native drivers to the Informix database.
My PC is running 64 bit Windows 7 Enterprise (fully patched).  Our Informix server is version 11.7 running on a SUSE server.
Any suggestions for where to start looking to solve this?

  • How to identify the project in CMOD used for a particular data source

    Hi
I had a Business Content Data source which is enhanced with ZZ fields and user exit is written in CMOD.
How can i find in which project used to write the code for that particular data source.....
When i check CMOD i can find nearly 10 to 20 different projects
    Thanks

    Hi,
One simple way is goto CMOD and give project names with Z* or Y*. First findout the naming convensions following in  your project and see.
Then gibe projects one by one and select COMPONENTS option and click on Display, if you find the following Function Exits means it is our DataSource project
    EXIT_SAPLRSAP_001
    EXIT_SAPLRSAP_002
    EXIT_SAPLRSAP_003
    EXIT_SAPLRSAP_004
    Thanks

  • Adhoc Reporting using Data Sources instead of Report Model

    Hi Gurus,
I'm working on SSRS 2008. I'm trying to create Adhoc Report using Report Builder 3.0. To select Data Source, both *.rsds and *.smdl are listed. I selected a Data Source which points to a SQL database. When I add New datasets, I'm able to add the fields and
it automatically detect relationships (Joins) using Primary Key and Foreign Key defined in the tables. I'm also able to edit the query. I ran the report and it ran successfully.
My question is I couldn't find any documentation regarding using Data Source for Adhoc Reporting. MS SQL documentation and forums insists that Report Model is required for Adhoc Reporting.
Please let me know if someone tried to create Adhoc Report using Data Source instead of Report Model. While I understand there are more benefits using Report Model (define entities/attributes, show/hide entity/attributes, organize entities/attributes etc.),
I just want to know if this is possible.
Are there any known limitation using this method?
    Thanks In Advance!

    Hi Ereswaran,
Yes, we can create ad hoc report using report using data source instead of Report Model. Ad hoc reports typically are used to answer a specific question at appoint in time, so consequently people don’t spend a lot of time arranging and formatting the data
in a precise way. Other report development tools are available in Reporting Services to support more sophisticated reporting requirements.
Using Report Builder, we can build a simple report that display data form a single data source as defined by a report model. This tool is most useful for business users who need access to information but lack the skills to write a SQL query. If we have full
experience of SQL query, of course we can use data source instead of Report Model.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

  • OLAP cubes from heterogeneous data sources using XML DB

    hi.
    Q:1
How we can create an OLAP cube (XML cubes) from XML data sources if using XML DB.
    Q:2
How we can create an OLAP cubes from warehouses and flat files and covert these cubes into XML cubes.
    Q:3
Is there any other tool (Except Analytical workspace manager AWM) which supports the construction of OLAP cubes in XML format from heterogeneous data sources?
    Edited by: user11236392 on Aug 21, 2009 3:50 AM

    Hi Stuart!
Your undersatnding is partially correct. i am working for providing an architecture for XOLAP, XML is one of my data source.
The idea is to generate uniform cubes from heterogeneous sources that can be integrated into a global cube. instead of building Oracle OLAP cubes from all the sources (this work is already done) i want to generate an XCube from XML data sources using XQuery.
On the other hand if we have generated the Oracle OLAP cube from other sources like warehouses or flat files. i have to convert these Oracle OLAP cube into XML cube for uniformity. in an research paper i find that there is an operator Xcube embedded in XQuery which converts the multidimensional data (cube) into XML cube. im looking for the implementation of this operator in Query that how this operator works.
hope u understand my architecture. but if u still have some confusion, kindly give me ur mail id. i will mail the diagram of my architecture.
    thanks.

  • Inconsistent data in PSA table and Data source

    Dear Experts,
I am using Process chain to update info cube from data source of a z table. In the process chain, the Delete PSA request step is having the PSA table number of the correct data source. The info package and the DTP also have the correct data source.
But after executing the process chain, the PSA table is updated with the wrong data source.
I have checked the Extraction of the data source in RSA3 transaction. The records are matching to the correct data source. But when I check PSA contents through process monitor in process chain log for DTP, I found the PSA content data is inconsistent and getting the data from wrong data source.
If process chain is repeated once again, the PSA is updated with the right data source.
Also when I do the process chain steps manually, it is working well.
    Thanks and regards
    Murugesan

    Hi,
Looks strange but you can do the following check,
Go to your data source and from the PSA table check which infopackage is loading data. You should be able to see that data is getting loaded from same infopackage. If there are multiple infopackages involved means you could get different data.
    Regards,
    Durgehs.
