Hi,
you can only pass a member to a business rule that is in the POV.
This can be defined on the web form. Here you can tell Planning to take the members and do not prompt for the variable.

Using variable values form parametrized URL in Customer Exit in i_step = 1

Hello BW experts,
I call a parametrized URL to a Web Template that has a Query with the variable VAR1:
http://XXX?...&CMD=LDOC&template_id=TEMP1&VAR_NAME_1=VAR1&VAR_VALUE_EXT_1=2006
Then I try to access the value of VAR1 in i_step = 1 in the Customer Exit for BEx variables in order to determine the value for a customer exit variable VAR2:

    IF i_step = 1.
      READ TABLE i_t_var_range INTO var_range
        WITH KEY vnam = 'VAR1'.
      fl_var_range-sign = 'I'.

The problem is that VAR1 contains either the default values (if the variable is set to have default variables) or is empty (if there are no default variables defined). It does not retrieve the value in the URL in the Customer Exit, but displays it correctly in the variable screen.
Is there any way I can acces the URL parameter in the Customer Exit?

thanks for your answer. The problem was, though, that the first value determines the behavior of the variable screen by setting the value of a customer exit variable.
My goal was to have two variable screens. In the first a date is chosen and in the second a node of a time-dependant hierarchy is chosen. If one enters the date in the same screen as the hierarchy, the valid hierarchy for the date is not displayed.
I solved the problem now in following way:
<b>1. Saving the value in SAP Memory as a parameter.</b> The parameter has to be defined in SE80. A Dummy Web Template with a query on the same Infoprovider with just the two InfoObjects (Year/Month) displays a variable screen for Month/Year. In addition there is a Dummy Customer Exit variable that is needed in order to pass the variable values (month/year) into SAP Memory. Using JavaScript in the Dummy WebTemplate the second Web Template with the actual query is called without displaying anything else than the variable screen.

Question about using constant variables in Forms

As I am still very new to Forms, please forgive my ignorance if the answer to my question is very simple. I am trying to figure out how to use constant variables within my Forms application. For example, if I want to setup return code constants for the application (mind me, these are examples):
RC_SUCCESS CONSTANT PLS_INTEGER := 1;
RC_FAILURE CONSTANT PLS_INTEGER := 0;
RC_YEAR_DATA_NOT_FOUND := 50;
Then in a module I created, if I wanted to check the return code against one of the constants I would do:

Is there a config file or something for the webserver that can be used to set these up??

To declare constants create a Package-Specification in a pll and deifne all your constants there, something like:

For dynamic SQL statements look at using the EXEC_SQL package. However, it may be that you can solve your requirement simply by using private synonyms on each user so your statements actually just use
Select feild into x from tablename
and let the database sort out the actual owner based on the synonym.

A Practical Solution

The Form components available in JSF will not let you specify the target action, everything is a post-back. When using container security, however, you have to specifically submit to the magic action j_security_check to trigger authentication. This means that the only way to do this in a JSF page is to use an HTML form tag enclosed in verbatim tags. This has the side effect that the post is not handled by JSF at all meaning you can't take advantage of normal JSF functionality such as validators, plus you have a horrible chimera of a page containing both markup and components. This screws up things like skinning. ([credit to Duncan Mills in this 2 years old article|http://groundside.com/blog/DuncanMills.php?title=j2ee_security_a_jsf_based_login_form&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1]).
In this solution, I will use a pure JSF page as the login page that the end user interacts with. This page will simply gather the input for the username and password and pass that on to a plain old jsp proxy to do the actual submit. This will avoid the whole problem of having to use verbatim tags or a mixture of JSF and JSP in the user view.

What is a container? A container is basically a security framework that is implemented directly by whatever app server you are running, in my case Glassfish v2ur2 that comes with Netbeans 6.1. Your container can have multiple security realms. Each realm manages a definition of the security "*principles*" that are defined to interact with your application. A security principle is basically just a user of the system that is defined by three fields:
- Username
- Group
- Password
The security realm can be set up to authenticate using a simple file, or through JDBC, or LDAP, and more. In my case, I am using a "file" based realm. The users are statically defined directly through the app server interface. Here's how to do it (on Glassfish):
1. Start up your app server and log into the admin interface (http://localhost:4848)
2. Drill down into Configuration > Security > Realms.
3. Here you will see the default realms defined on the server. Drill down into the file realm.
4. There is no need to change any of the default settings. Click the Manage Users button.
5. Create a new user by entering username/password.
Note: If you enter a group name then you will be able to define permissions based on group in your app, which is much more usefull in a real app.
I entered a group named "Users" since my app will only have one set of permissions and all users should be authenticated and treated the same.
That way I will be able to set permissions to resources for the "Users" group that will apply to all users that have this group assigned.
TIP: After you get everything working, you can hook it all up to JDBC instead of "file" so that you can manage your users in a database.

Since I'm a newbie to JSF, I am using Netbeans 6.1 so that I can play around with all of the fancy Visual Web JavaServer Faces components and the visual designer.
1. Start by creating a new Visual Web JSF project.
2. Next, create a new subfolder under your web root called "secure". This is the folder that we will define a Security Constraint for in a later step, so that any user trying to access any page in this folder will be redirected to a login page to sign in, if they haven't already.

2. The servlet forwards the request to the welcome page: faces/secure/securepage.jsp
3. faces/secure/securepage.jsp has a security constraint defined, so the servlet checks to see if the user is authenticated for the session.
4. Of course the user is not authenticated since this is the first request, so the servlet forwards the request to the login page we configured in web.xml (/faces/login.jsp).
5. The user enters username and password and clicks a button to submit.
6. The button's action method stores away the username and password in the request scope.
7. The button returns "loginproxy" navigation case which tells the navigation handler to forward the request to loginproxy.jspx
8. loginproxy.jspx renders a blank page to the user which has hidden username and password fields.
9. The hidden username and password fields grab the username and password variables from the request scope.
10. The loginproxy page is automatically submitted with the magic action "j_security_check"
11. j_security_check notifies the container that authentication needs to be intercepted and handled.
12. The container authenticates the user credentials.
13. If the credentials fail, the container forwards the request to the login.jsp page.
14. If the credentials pass, the container forwards the request to *+the last protected resource that was attempted.+*
+Note the last point! I don't know how, but no matter how many times you fail authentication, the container remembers the last page that triggered authentication and once you finally succeed the container forwards your request there!!!!+

If you want login security on your web app, this is one way to do it. (the easiest way i have seen).
This method allows you to create a custom login form and error page using JSF.
The container handles the actual authentication and protection of the resources based on what you declare in web.xml and sun-web.xml.
This example uses a statically defined user/password, stored in a file, but you can also configure JDBC realm in Glassfish, so that that users can register for access and your program can store the username/passwrod in a database.
I'm new to programming, so none of this may be a good practice, or may not be secure at all.
I really don't know what I'm doing, but I'm learning, and this has been the easiest way that I have found to add authentication to a web app, without having to write the login modules yourself.
Another benefit, and I think this is key ***You don't have to include any extra code in the pages that you want to protect*** The container manages this for you, based on the constraints you declare in web.xml.
So basically you set it up to protect certain folders, then when any user tries to access pages in that folder, they are required to authenticate.

Undefined VARIABLE in FORM

Dear All,
Another post with a classic "undefined <VARIABLE> in
FORM" error message I'm afraid. I don't think this is the usual
problem of scoping however or form not submitting the data.
Basically I've checked and triple checked the file with the
<cfform> tag in it and it definately contains the relevant
controls with the names correct. I've also put <cfdump
var="#Form#"><cfabort> tags at the top of each file to
ensure the information is getting through. Looking at the Form
structure I can see the variables that are being posted (all of
which have the values passed from the file with the form tag).
However, despite this, when I remove the <cfabort> tag to let
the website process then the error message returns. I can't think
of what else might be causing this. Any ideas?
The actual .cfm files are pretty long but the jist of them is
as follows:

I think that the above statement says it all. I
wish that I had a dollar for every time that I looked at a piece of
code and could swear that there was nothing in it that could be
causing "the problem".... yeah, right.
Even if it is long, you might consider posting it if, for no
other reason, another pair of eyes may be able to spot the
"obvious" problem that your eyes may be skipping over (and over and
over.....).
<edit> FYI, I once actually had a CF template that
would fail just because it was a certain size... period. It was a
few CF versions ago, but if I made the template larger, or smaller,
no problem, But I made no actual changes other than size to keep it
from failing... very strange, but heck, you never know sometimes

do you want to create variable in script or smartform?
In scripts to define a variable use the following declaration statement.
DEFINE &<VARIABLE_NAME>&
place this statement as command. we can assign initial value for this by adding VALUE ' ' to above statement.
If your requirement is for smartforms go to global declaration, create a variable there that will be applicable only for smartform.

Using Variable in place of property name in set_item_property procedure.

I need to change the item properties dynamically by using variables for both properties names and their values.But during compilation its showing me error "Too many declrations".Kindly suggest me any best way.

You already have the answer to that one in the posting above.
Your table would presumable include rows HEIGHT, WIDTH etc.. as text columns
So you'd cross reference as above.
Alternatively you could find out what the numerical values are for HEIGHT (1509) and WIDTH (1508) are and store them in your master table alongside the description that your user will see. Then you can simply do the set_item_property.
This relies heavily on Oracle not changing the values for these constants. Even if they did you would just have to change your table. Then your solution is generic and future proof.
Built in for all properties: Not that I know of. But you could sort of use your table as above to help. Simply loop through the constants, do a get_item_property, and show that to the user.
You'll have to be careful about maybe classifying the things in your table to ensure you don't try to get an inappropriate property for the type of item.
With a little effort this will all definitely be possible.
I saw a thread the other day where someone had created a form called "props.fmb" which showed the item properties in a tree style. See if you can find that. This was fairly hard coded compared to what you want, but it would be pretty good as a basis.

But when I apply the same method to a Quiz Slide sush as a Likert Slide it doesn't work.

As Question slides are a different sort of beast, I might expect that in order to do this you would simply insert a Text Caption containing the variable. Then place it where you like.

Using variable/s in SOM expression... how?

Hello all,
Sometimes its the simplest things that are the most confusing (for me anyway). For example:
I have a static table in a form in which the cells in one column each contain a checkbox.
The reference for each checkbox would be:
Table1.Row1.ckbox[0]
Table2.Row2.ckbox[0]
Table3.Row3.ckbox[0]
and so on.
I have a button elsewhere on the form, which when clicked would set each of the checkboxes in the table to "1" or checked, and would uncheck them all when clicked again.So I'm thinking a simple for loop would do the trick.

for i = 1 upto 12 do
     Table1.Row[i].ckbox = 1
endfor
               ---OR---
for (var row = 1; row < 13; row++)
    form1.main.front.Table1.Row" + row + ".CheckBox = 1;
Neither works.
Is it the syntax, or something else entirely? Any pointers to examples of how and when to use variables in SOM references would be extremely appreciated.

You need to resolve the node in Javascript, so the following should work:
for (var i=1; i< 13; i++)
    xfa.resolveNode("form1.main.front.Table1.Row" + i + ".ckbox).rawValue = 1;
The way you have stated the name of the checkbox "Table1.Row1.ckbox[0]", indicates that there may be more than one ckbox in each row. If that is the case then you may need to replace .ckbox in the script with .ckbox[0].
