ehhh...restart of the OD master fixed that problem...
I hate such kind of problems...
Does anybody know, if there is a routine, WHEN and HOW OFTEN the OD sends updates to their clients?
Or does the Clients ask the OD?
...i am puzzled...and tired...but happy

  • Login Item keeps returning

    Hi There.
I have read may similar posts, but the solutions have not worked.
Problem: NetNewsWire returns to the "Login Items" all by itself, even after manually removing it from the Accounts -> Login Items.
    Things I have already tried:
    1) Manually removing it from System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items. Outcome: It removes from the list, but after loging out/in or restarting, it returns to the list.
    2) Deleting ~/library/Preferences/com.apple.loginitems.plist and ~/Library/Preferences/loginwindow.plist
Outcome: The Login Item list in the System Preferences > Accounts is emptied, but after log out/in the list reappears, restoring NetNewsWire as well as several other things.
    3) Right-Clicking the Dock icon and de-delecting "Open at Login" which is always checked.
Outcome: After un-checing this, and logging out/in. The app still launches and the setting in again checked in the dock menu.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Oh, by the way, this is on a family member's MacBook, 10.5.x

Actually, I did further tests and found the following: there are several apps set to launch at start up, and removing any of them had the same effect as NetNewsWire.
Here's how I solved the problem: after deleting all of the login items and verifying that System Preferences > Users > Login Items was empty, I went to ~/library/preferences and deleted loginwindow.plist. Then I used text edit to make a new blank file of the same name. I locked this file and put it in the preferences folder where it should go. I then tested to make sure that any login items added did not actually stick due to the fact the pref was locked. This worked, and nothing could be added or removed at all. I logged out and in and confirmed it again. My locked dummy file was still in place. Next, I removed the locked dummy file and went back to the login items and added a couple of items as a test. I logged out and in and just those two things opened. I removed them and verified that they also stayed deleted.
Now the loginwindow.plist seems to be working normally. Something seems to have been restoring the file after I made changes, or perhaps the file was corrupt and unwriteable to begin with.

  • I cant access System Preferences»Accounts»Login Items

I cant access System Preferences»Accounts»Login Items can anyone help?
I have two admin accounts on this machine. One local admin account that does not have this problem, and one mobile admin (remote access) user account that I use for all work. I have repaired permissions and disk from startup cd. I have deleted the following files-
    com.apple.preferencepanes.cache
    com.apple.preferencepanes.searchindexcache
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
Nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

What do you mean that you can't access the login items?
    1) No tab for login items in Accounts?
    - Are you logged in as that user?
    2) Tab exists but doesn't switch to it when clicked?
    3) Can see login items, but can't do anything with them?

  • Making user account logins case sensitive?

Hi, just a quick question. Is it possible to make a user account login name case sensitive? Currently I can log on using upper or lower case for the login name however I would rather only the exact login name could be used.
    Thanks

I had already answered with example.

  • Making user account logins/passwords case sensitive?

Hi, just a quick question. Is it possible to make user account login/passwords be case sensitive? At the moment they are case insensitive.
    Thanks :)

You can make only user account login case sensitive but not password.

  • Preferences - Accounts - Login Items : rearrange fails, result is removal

This should be considered a bug report, but =i'm rather new to the apple community (user for a year, but only recently trying to help in forums) i am not aware of a legitimate bug-report tool for apple.
as the subject indicates, rearranging items in the Login Items preferences causes them to simply vanish from the list. I have about 8 items launch at startup, and some of them take a while to load (like iCal) and i'd prefer those to load at the END. the only workaround i've found is to remove them all, then add them one at a time in the order i want them to start up. this is clearly a bug.

    Hi Jared,
You're right, this should rather be considered a bug, as it used to work perfectly well in Panther...
Smart (?) reasons like "this is because of how launchd works" or "sending feedback requires some membership etc..." certainly do not look very "Macish", "user friendly", the way we were used to by Apple's legendary quality.
Here is the place where to send your feedback:
(and many users have sent the same comments about login items, since Tiger's launch last May...)
Thank you for helping with your own form!

  • Account Login Items

One of the login items listed under my account in sys preferences is System Events - shown as an application. Any idea what this is? Is it safe to delete from my login items?

System Events is a system application that should never be run by hand. I have no idea why it's in your login items but it's quite safe to remove it from there.

  • What is the ITunesHelper? SysPrf Accounts Login Items "iTunes Helper"

I searched around to find an explanation and found none.
You would think Apple would have am explanation somewhere to describe it's purpose and function?
    ITunes Helper? SysPrf>Accounts>Login Items

You could just create a new Admin account and then change the other back to standard. However, you would have to disable filevault, wait for it to decrypt, then enable it again so you could give that new account the ability to decrypt the hard drive.
But, you're gonna have to do that anyway for whatever account you create. There doesn't appear to be a way to enable new users to decrypt the hard drive. It has to be set up when you encrypt: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4790

  • Help!!! I deleted "ituneshelper" on SystemPrefs/Accounts/login items

    Hello Apple Discussions Community.
I deleted from Login Items, located in Accounts on System Preferences, the "iTunesHelper" item.
I would like to retrieve this link again, but it is a part of the iTunes Package, therefore, it is not possible to add it using the "+" button.
I would like to know if there is a command on Terminal or other way to resolve this issue.
    Thanks in advance.
    Jose Blanco.

Hello. I know this procedure, another thing was missing, that it's necessary to drag the icon to the LoginItems window to add it. I discovered it after following your suggestion.
    Thanks!!!

  • On the iMac user account login screen, what does the checkmark mean?

On my iMac, I have 3 user accounts. Sometimes I have noticed that next to 1 of the 3 account names that I will sometimes see a small white check mark in a red circle. What does this mean?

I just received the same login for the first time in a while.  I had left my MacBook Pro asleep for several days and then turned it back on and the wakeup/login screen presented a similar red circle with a white check mark inside.  Did you find an answer?  I created a new post today to see if anyone has had anything similar, not sure if it's firevault or not confirming id...

  • New user account - safari just keeps quitting silently

    Hello,
I create a new standard user account, restart the machine, log in to the new user, open Safari, and, well frst, no window appears, I have to ask for a new Safari window. Then as I'm changing something in preferences Safari crahes/dissapeared (the little white blob is no longer there under Safari), with no message about that. I open it up again, same thing repeats. Why would a new account not work like this? Thanks.

    anyone?
