User account repair status

Dear Experts,
Some times when we check in user account status in BBP_CHECK_USERS, there the user account status will show yellow satus and ask for 1st or 2nd lever of repair.
Can any one explain me why it will show such error status automatically, and what it will do whne we select 1st level repair, that automatically changes the status from yellow to green.
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Krish

  • Oracle user account is getting locked frequently

    Hi everyone!!!
I am using Oracle 11g on Linux . I have user named "XXX" to whom I have assigned a DEFAULT profile. The Password parameters in DEFAULT profile are as follow.
    Resource Name                                      Resource                                 Limit
    FAILED_LOGIN_ATTEMPTS                    PASSWORD                            20
    PASSWORD_LIFE_TIME                        PASSWORD                            UNLIMITED
    PASSWORD_LOCK_TIME                      PASSWORD                           UNLIMITED
    PASSWORD_REUSE_TIME                   PASSWORD                            UNLIMITED
    PASSWORD_REUSE_MAX                   PASSWORD                             UNLIMITED
I don't know why my user is getting locked continuously. Even i haven't reached Failed_login_attempts (20). Each time I require to unlock user account as SYS user and then I can connect as XXX user.
And another thing that I want to know is when user account's status is set to LOCKED, EXPIRED, EXPIRED & LOCKED and LOCKED(TIME).
    Thanks & Regards

    Hi,
can you tell me the exact db version?
    As explained in MOS notes:
DBA_USERS.ACCOUNT_STATUS shows LOCKED after FAILED_LOGIN_ATTEMPTS Is Breached (Doc ID 284344.1)
How to Interpret the ACCOUNT_STATUS Column in DBA_USERS (Doc ID 260111.1)
    Expected behaviour is:
    1. Oracle release is <= 11.1.0.7.
DBA_USERS.ACCOUNT_STATUS = LOCKED(TIMED) whenever the number of failed login attempts is > FAILED_LOGIN_ATTEMPTS
    2. Oracle release is >= 11.2 and PASSWORD_LOCK_TIME = unlimited:
DBA_USERS.ACCOUNT_STATUS = LOCKED whenever the number of failed login attempts is > FAILED_LOGIN_ATTEMPTS
    3. Oracle release is >= 11.2 and PASSWORD_LOCK_TIME = <some fix value>
DBA_USERS.ACCOUNT_STATUS = LOCKED(TIMED) whenever the number of failed login attempts is > FAILED_LOGIN_ATTEMPTS
    Note
that 10.2.0.5 displays the same behavior as 11.2, because the fix that  changed the behavior in 11.2 was introduced in 10.2.0.5.
So I suggest you to follow MOS note
Finding the source of failed login attempts. (Doc ID 352389.1)
to find who locked the account.

  • Safari (7.0.1) is non-responsive (spinning pinwheel) upon start up.  It will work in temp user account but not in my main user acct.  I tried reinstall via comman-r prompt on start up but the problem persists.  Any suggestion for reinstall or repair?

Safari is non-responsive after intitial start up.  Before it can load the homepage (google), it will hang and give a perpetual pinwheel until I force quit the program.  Safari works in temporary user account but not in my primary user account.  I have reinstalled osx via the command-r upon start up and the problem still persists.  Any suggestions on how to reinstall or repair safari?

Thanks for thinking about my problem. I've already experimented with creating a new user, a co-administrator. The programs don't crash when that account is running, just as they don't crash when the guest-user's account runs. So it seems that the problem is limited to the default user's account, which is the one that was running when I installed the updates to the OS and the firmware. Another clue is that the programs that crash as soon as they are launched are *probably* the ones that were open at that time in that account. Yet deleting Saved Application States does not keep the programs from crashing when next launched.
So the mystery continues, but these additional facts will help with the diagnosis, I hope.
    Thanks again for your suggestion.

  • How do I repair my library and user account?

    My problem:
    - Created new user named "admin" and wanted to transfer my entire account there and gave it full rights. Decided not to. <- long story
    - Now, original account does not have full rights and every setting I change (like desktop wallpaper) changes back to the day I gave full rights to my other account.
    - Asks password to move and delete files.
    - Apps connected to Apple account (iPhoto, Notes, Mail, Calendar, Preview, Reminders, FaceTime, etc. - except iTunes and Messages) asks for password as well and when I put it in, it crashes and says the app quit unexpectedly
    - Also, Apple apps like Messages cannot log in to my Apple account, and I cannot receive any messages anymore.
    Attempts to fix:
    - I tried giving myself acces to a lot of folders (my hard drisk, home, desktop, system, library, user accounts, applications)
    - Disk Utility - Verify Disk Permissions and Repair Disk Permissions
    HELP!

    HI,
I am presuming there was only one account on the mac in the first place.
In System Preferences > User and Groups this would have been an Admin account.
You now seem to be saying that this Mac User Account is no longer an Admin  account  ("Does not have full rights") but have not explained how you got to that state.
You can have several Mac User Accounts that have Admin Permissions.
Other posters who may be able to help may need the exact steps that you took in this process.

  • Old user accounts missing after repair

I just had the "random shutdown disorder" fixed on my MacBook at my local Apple Store. When the MacBook came back, and I powered it up, I had to go through the whole "new computer start up" stuff again. When I was done, I was surprised to see a desktop that was NOT the desktop that I expected. The desktop was empty, and the dock was not my old dock.
The Applications folder quickly confirmed that all of my old software was there. And then a look at the MacBook/users folder showed that all of my old accounts were still there (along with the stuff that I had had on my desktop, documents, etc.).
How do I get my OLD main user account back to being the default? I will assume that once that has happened, the other accounts will also be available (since none of them appear now in the account list).
    Thanks.
    Gary

    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I cannot list any accounts -- none appear other than the new one I created. They only exist in the "Users" folder.
The Users folder contains the account home folders, not the accounts themselves; to create the accounts, open the Accounts pane of System Preferences and create new ones in the same order they were originally created.
That said, I've never figured out HOW the computer decides what to call the "admin" account -- it has been called "admin" on one of my computers, "Home" on another (actually, the computer in question before this repair), and now "grbrower".
If an account is a member of the admin group, it will have administrator access to the machine regardless of what its shortname is; you can view the membership of this group in the NetInfo Manager, which is in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder. It is possible for no administrator accounts to be present on the machine; this can happen if you change the shortname of the only administrator account on the machine through the NetInfo Manager without updating the admin group's membership.

  • Repair Disk Permissions corrupted a secondary user account

I've read various threads on this topic but none that have solved my issue.
I have 4 accounts on my iMac.  Account 1 is admin, Account 2 is "staff" and had access to almost everything, Account 3 is guest, Account 4 is for Apple TV streaming so we don't leave one of our accounts open while entertaining guests.
I was doing something that request that I run Repair Disk Permissions, which I did from the admin account. After doing so, Account 2 is pretty much read only: can't delete files off of the desktop, can't open certain applications, can't sync iphone to itunes, and many other little issues.  One of the issues during iPhone sync is that it cannot write to address book <which there are many threads out there on just this as well>.
It seems to me that it's a permissions issue but repairing disk permission isn't helping, as that's what seems to have corrupted the account in the first place.
What is the most efficient way to resolve this?  Should I create a new user account and move all the files over?  If I do that, will iTunes sync ok with the iPhone or will it not recognize it and ask to wipe the data from the iPhone?  What is the best sure-fire way to migrate Account 2 to a new user account and not lose anything in iTunes/iPhoto and still be able to sync with iPhone.
    Thanks!

Open the Terminal in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and run the following:
    sudo chmod -R a+rX
followed by a space. Next, drag the folder into the Terminal window, press Enter, and type your password; nothing will appear in the Terminal while the password is being typed. If you want to be able to make changes to the folder as well, use rwX instead of rX. You may need to log out and back in for the changes to be recognized. To turn it off, use go-rwX after the -R.

  • Repair Frozen User Account

    Hi,
I was hoping for some help please, to repair my wife's user account. When I log into her account on our desktop mac, the computer freezes.
I tried repairing permissions with disk utility... no luck.
I also looked for her preference plist file, because I read somewhere that deleting this file helped others with similar trouble. Only problem is, I can't locate her plist file. I have to be logged into her account to find the file, but her account freezes the computer.
I've tried other things too; probably burned 3 hours on this so far. I'm stumped.
The freeze is complete, and all powerful. Force quit doesn't work. None of the menus work. Her dock, which is normally hidden, does not present itself on mouse-over. Only the mouse "works" (moves the spinning beach ball here and there).
The only way out is to power down.
The other accounts are OK. There are six in total:
    1     me - admin
    2     wife - standard
    3     daughter - standard
    4     son - standard
    5     troubleshooting - standard
    6     guest user
    About this mac:
    - 27-inch, Late 2009
    - OS X 10.9.4 Mavericks
    - Processor 3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
    - Memory 16 GB
Thanks in advance for any help.

Log in with that account, open the Universal Access pane of System Preferences, and turn off VoiceOver in the Seeing tab.

  • Some user Accounts have no "status" string when using Get-ADUser command.

    Hello!
I encountered a problem. When I tryed to get list of all disabled accounts in the AD, I used the command Get-ADUser -Filter 'Enabled -eq $false' .
But i recieved a list of users which is not full.
So I checked again and compared 2 accounts,  both a disabled but one had a "Status" string, and the second had not.
In gui Snap-in all Disabled accounts marked as disabled.
So I can' t get a list of disabled users right now.
    So here is an Example:

  • Repairing or Replacing Damaged User Account

Diagnosed crashing Illustrator CS2 as a User Account issue. Illustrator works fine after creating a new "Test" user account. Booted from OS 10.4 CD and Repaired Permissions, restarted with old User and Illustrator CS2 still crashes.
    Best next step??

Go through the items in your home folder and drag some of them to the desktop; after each batch of items, launch Illustrator again and see if it crashes. If it does, move half of the last group back and continue the process until you find the corrupt file. In rare cases of account-specific issues, the problem file may be one which isn't visible in the Finder by default, is outside the account's home folder, or is even part of the NetInfo database.

  • Two user accounts sharing aperture library constantly repairing permissions

My girlfriend and I each have a user account on our iMac.  We have our Photo Library in a shared folder so we can both access it when using Aperture.  However, every time I want to use Aperture, I have to first repair permissions.  After doing this, everything runs fine.
Then, when my girlfriend tries to access Aperture, SHE has got to repair permissions first or Aperture gets hung up.
Basically, it appears that when I repair permissions in my user account, it messes up the permissions in her user account and vice versa.  Has anyone ever experienced this behavior before and have they found a solution?
    Thanks,
    Rick

It is not sufficient to have the library in a shared folder. That will not help with the permissions inside the Aperture library package.
The safest way to use an Aperture library from two differnet accounts is to move it to a disk or disk partition that has the "Ignore Ownership on this volume" flag enabled. Then you can take turns  using the Aperture library from your accounts.
The procedure is explained in this document for an iPhoto library, but it work also for an Aperture library.
iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1198
Just remember, that any disk you are using for an Aperture library will have to be formatted for Mac:
    MacOS Extented (Journaled).
My media drive with the Aperture library looks like this in "File > Get Info":

  • IMac user accounts one account hangs, how do I repair it?

iMac user accounts one account hangs, how do I repair it?
When I login to the account it logs in, then the first thing click hangs that account and I have to reboot.
    Any suggestions???

Since this is account specific looking for suspects in /Library/StartupItems, etc. is not the place to look first.  It must be specific to that account.  So the immediate suspects could be that account's login items or ~/Library/LaunchAgents.
So, as suggested, boot in safe mode but then try to log into the problem account.  If it works then look at your login items and ~/Library/LaunchAgents (if any) and temporarily remove all tof them.  Then reboot normally and try to log into the account again.
Of course sometimes just booting in safe mode may clear the problem up if it's a file system or cache problem.  You never know until you try.

  • Creating a new user account and curious log in behavior...

First off I'd just like to apologize if that is not the correct place to be posting this, but after looking around I don't see a perfect fit for this topic anywhere, so I figured here should be okay. Also I want to apologize if this turns out to be a rather lengthy post, I just want to ensure that I supply all info...
Okay, so about a month ago I recognized that my current user account is slowly but surely taking longer and longer to "boot up" after I put in my password and tell it to log in. What usually happens is that I click log in, the background image and taskbar almost immediately pop up but nothing else (finder icons, dock, and the multiple icons in the taskbar which include the airport signal, user name, bluetooth status, battery strength, volume, and my iChat and Adium status) the only things to immediately "activate" in the taskbar are the clock and spotlight.
As of late when I log in something especially strange is happening in that after the 5 or so minutes it takes the dock, rest of taskbar, and finder icons to appear my PB will play the default Apple sound of me emptying trash, rather there is anything actually in the trash or not. It dosen't delete the objects in the trash (if any, as I usually keep it empty), just simply plays the sound. I'm not sure if it playing this sound ties in any with the lagging log in times, I just wanted to mention it as the log in times have slowed down considerably since this sound started.
Bottom line given that there is no way that I know of fixing this problem, I am planning to simply create a new user account. Actually I have already created the new account (by the way, it logs in literally instantaneously, and does not make the strange trash being emptied sound) but was looking for info on how to get all of my files from one account to the other. Unfortunately for me everytime that I install a program and the dialog box pops up asking if you want to install it on all user accounts or just the current one I always click "just the current one" (please don't ask why, as there is seriously no reasoning to this at all...), so is there a way to transfer my current programs from one user account to the other without reinstalling??? It's actually not that many programs I'm talking about here (Shapeshifter, Xounds, XFactor, AIM, Adium, Cocktail, Toast, Popcorn, iPod Rip, and Office), I just figured that if I can simply transfer rather than reinstalling them, it would be a lot easier.
However my 2 primary concerns are my iTunes and iPhoto libraries (3330 songs and 4182 pcitures respectively), considering that I've spent literally hours making countless playlist in iTunes, and countless folders, slideshows, and books in iPhoto, if I was to lose all this it would truly be a mess.
I know I'm probably making a big deal out of this and it's an extremely easy and basic process, please just pardon this still pretty new Mac user and help me out:) Also if anybody else has experienced the log in slow down or strange trash being emptied sound I would be glad to hear your experiences.
    Thanks in advance!!!
    Mervyn

    Hi Mervin,
Bottom line given that there is no way that I know of fixing this problem, I am planning to simply create a new user account.
You can do that (but I wouldn't) this KB article outlines how:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=155373
Basically you will copy the folders within your old home to replace the folders in the new home. Here is a list of specific folders if you decide to do that but a better solution would be to sort your existing user.
Here where your important data is stored ("~" stands for "Home"):
    Your Data in Documents
~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
    ~/Library/Application Support/iCal(copy the whole folder)
Also in ~ / Library/ Application Support (copy whatever else you need)
~ /Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)
    ~/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder)
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist * This is a very important file which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences.
    ~ / Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder)
    ~ / Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
    ~ / Library/iMovie (copy the whole folder)
    ~/ Pictures/iPhoto Library
    If you want cookies:
    ~/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist
    ~/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
so is there a way to transfer my current programs from one user account to the other without reinstalling???
As for applications, they should all be in your Application folder(there is only one) and available to ALL users, unless you have put "limitations" or "parental controls" on the account.
Now to the best course of action:
To find the issue affecting your existing user account, follow these steps:
Log back into your normal user account:
    1. Navigate to ~(yourhome/library/fonts - drag this folder to the desktop.
         • Restart and test your applications.
         • If they work start adding the fonts back few at a time.
( Likely suspects are Time RO & Helvetica Fractions, also if you do not use Classic you can trash the classic fonts.)
    2. Check Preferences Thoroughly;
         • Navigate to ~(yourhome/library/preferences drag this folder to the desktop.
         • Restart and test your applications.
         • If this works, save the old preferences folder somewhere else or on disk, name it "old prefs" .
** Note: A very important file is the "com.apple.Mail.plist" preference file located in the Preferences folder which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences (hold this one and replace if your problem is not with Mail).
You'll have to go through some of your System Preferences and apps to set the preferences back to how you like them. (Or if you have the time and inclination, "cherry pick" through until you find the problem one or two.)
    3. Check Permissions Inside Home Folder
       • Navigate to yourhome/library.
       • Get Info (Command - i) on folders for apps you are having problems with.
       • Open the "Ownership & permissions" disclosure triangle.
       • Make sure you are the owner, with "read and write" access.
    • Click on "apply to all"
       • If this is correct, open the "Applications Support" folder and do the same      procedure (Command+I) for the folders with the names of the applications you are      having trouble with.
    Note:
The reason to check this is because repairing permissions with Disk Utility doesn't touch permissions inside your home folder.
If the isssue persists navigate to ~/library/caches and drag this folder to the trash, then log out and back or restart. There is no need to replace this folder.
    Good luck, let us know.

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

  • Can't inherit role privileges to user accounts in targets.

    Hello,
We have the role MXGR0001 and it has a privilege associated (PRIV:GROUP:AD:CN=UMonterrey,OU=Security,OU=Groups,OU=Monterrey,OU=Mexico,DC=mabenet,DC=corpmabe,DC=com)
as is indicated on u201CMember Privilegesu201D tab. When we see the privilege properties, it says the role is a member from this privilege.
In the u201CTasksu201D tab of the privilege, we have associated a task in the part of u201CProvisioning Tasku201D, our task is u201CCreateADSUseru201D, the reason of this association was because at the moment of the assignation of the role, the task associated to the privilege could be executed and the privilege could be associated to the user.
Note: The Active Directory user has static values just to see the association with the privilege.
For example, we wanted to associate the user 1000611 with the role MXGR0001, it works fine, but when I look for the created user in Active Directory in the tab "Member of" of my user, the privilege is not associated. Do you know why this is happening? or do you know how to associate privilege to an Active Directory User from the Identity Center, which are the fields or tasks that I need to change into the Privilege or Role?
I hope you could help me with this!
    Regards!

That's a bit unusual, and perhaps if you start the computer from the OS X
Install disc and run Disk Utility's first-aid from that version on the booted
install disc; have it 'repair disk' and also 'repair disk permissions.'
Sometimes, just starting in SafeBoot, then 'repair disk permissions' from
Disk Utility in the Utilities/Applications folder (see Go in Finder menu,
choose Utilities folder; find Disk Utility; launch) and when it is done,
quit Disk Utility and restart and allow the computer to boot normally.
This may resolve the user account issue; or it may not.
See various instructions (can be used outside of context)
"Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance
with Disk Utility and fsck" - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417
In a worse-case scenario, an "archive & install" and update may be
required, if an issue cannot be resolved through other means. More
would need to be known about the machine, its use & status before
suggesting any one course of action. There may be something else
    behind the symptom you described.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • When I login to second user account I get a blank white screen.

Just updated to 10.8.3, was also having issues that seemed to be related to Spotlight and TM backups. Issues on my main user account seem to have been resolved, but I have not reactivated Spotlight or TM yet.
When I try to login to my wife's user account, it just hangs on a white screen. I've tried repairing user permissions, and also resetting PRAM and NVRAM. Disk verify checks out fine.

    Library/Fonts:
[A hole bunch, removed to shorten post...]
Does the problem account also have a lot of fonts in the home folder? That could be the reason for a login failure. Otherwise see below.
Please read this whole message carefully, especially the warnings, before doing anything.
    1. The changes to your configuration suggested here should be considered provisional; they may not solve your problem, or they may remove functionality that you find useful. If a third-party system modification that you want to keep is causing the problem, seek help from its developer.
    2. WARNING: Back up all data now if you haven’t already done so. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to its present state, even if it becomes unbootable. If you’re not sure you can do that, STOP — DON’T CHANGE ANYTHING. If you’re dissatisfied with the results of the procedure suggested below, restore from your backup. I will not be responsible for the consequences, and I will not be able to help, if you ignore this warning.
    3. You should either remove or update the following system modification(s), if an update is available from the developer:
    N/A
and definitely remove at least the following:
    Logitech Control Center
    † PeerGuardian
    Hotspot Shield
    † Conduit
    4. Whatever you remove must be removed completely, and (unless otherwise specified in this message) the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the third-party developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job. I can't be more specific, because I don't install such things myself. Please do your own research.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickYourMac.” First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickyourmac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickYourMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickYourMac.” If not, open “BrickYourMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button.
Again, please don't ask me to do this research for you. You can do it better than I can, because I haven't installed the product and I may not even know what it is.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase your boot volume and perform a clean reinstallation of OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
WARNING: Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" that purport to remove software.
    5. I recommend that you never reinstall the modifications marked with a dagger (†) above, if any. If your problem is resolved after uninstalling all the above modifications and rebooting, but you still want to use some of those not marked with a dagger, you can experiment with putting them back, one at a time, testing carefully after each step. Keep in mind that system modifications may be incompatible with each other or with future OS X updates, so it may not be clear which one is at fault.
    6. If you still have problems after making the suggested changes and rebooting, post again. Remember: if you don’t like the results of this procedure, you can undo it by restoring from the last backup you made before you started.
You installed the Conduit spyware. To remove it, back up all data, then follow the instructions on this page:
    Help Center | Community Toolbar
If those instructions don't work, proceed as follows.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Conduit
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). From the Finder menu bar, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder…
Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return. A Finder window should open with a folder named "Conduit" selected. If it does, delete the selected item.
    Repeat with this line:
    /Applications/Toolbars
Now you're deleting a folder named "Toolbars". You may be prompted for your login password. Next, copy this line:
    /Library
Select Go to Folder… again and paste. Don't delete the Library folder. Delete only the following items inside it, if they exist.
    Application Support/Conduit
    InputManagers/CTLoader
    LaunchAgents/com.conduit.loader.agent.plist
    ScriptingAdditions/ct_scripting.osax
Close the Finder windows you opened. Log out and log back in.
