Hi Jim,
is it possible to manage a specific user issued-license from the API ?
for example, if i would like to change the time limit on a specific book for a specific user after he has downloaded and opened it ?
im trying to find the best method to manage time-limited licenses per user with an option to cancel or extend the license.

Once a license has been issued, there is no further required connection to validate that license. Because of this there is no way to revoke a license after it has been issued.
If you want to increase the time period of the license you can do this as a new transaction, but the current handling of this within ADE (and most other RMSDK) applications will be to download the file again, leaving the user with one file that has the old license, as well as any annotations that they have done, and a file with the new license. If you are using your own RMSDK application it may be possible to update the license of the old file (after sufficient tinkering both with the code and with getting Adobe approval for the changes).

Can the license manager load the computer-based license first, instead of the user-based license?
We have several machines in the lab with computer-based licenses on them and a number of techs with user-based licenses. When a tech needs to occassionally sign in as themselves, instead of the generic service account, the license manager attaches the machine to their user account. Not a problem until they try logging in to LabVIEW from their own PC again and they get the 14 day trial period notice.
Is there a way to have the license manager look for the computer license first instead of the user license?

In the license file hosted on the license server, you may be able to manually change the "sort" tag in the file to modify the order in which VLM checks out licenses. Licenses are checked out in descending order (2, then 3, then 4, etc.). Typically, your license file is set up in a default order, but in special cases such as this, it may be beneficial to alter the order. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Open the license file with a text editor (such as Notepad)
2. Search for the "sort" tag. For instance, the "VLM_Core" entry will have a sort tag value will appear as "sort=first". Do not alter this value. VLM_Core should always be first.
3. Change the sort tag value for the named-computer license to a value that is lower than the sort tag value for the named-user license. (e.g. "sort=2" for named-computer and "sort=3" for named-user).
4. Save the file and reinstall the license.

Acrobat Pro XI problem+Accept End User License Agreement when opening a PDF inside IE
Hi folks, this issue has been challenging.

Deployment went ok after the code was worked out, but.....
We use Desire to Learn content management system at the community college where I maintain the student computers at. When running D2L and a PDF has been embedded in some course material, I am getting the message below and the PDF won't open.
“Before proceeding you must first launch Adobe Acrobat and accept the End User License Agreement" .
The only fix so far is to run up Acrobat Pro and run the program once. Fine and dandy, but we are looking at 700+ machines to clear in this fashion. The other part of this scenario we we also utilize Respondus Lockdown Browser to invigilate exams through D2L. Because of the "lock down" features, the student can't even get back to the desktop to run Acrobat and clear the message.
I have tried a number of GPO entries to no avail. As well, disabled the IE PDF viewer add-on. I ran Procmon with no results either; .
I have been scouring the Googlemachine and building on the GPO below to get around the issue with no results. I am hoping someone with a sharper eye than I can spot something or point me in the correct direction..

Hi i have an iMac with 10.9.3 and when i tried to open a PDF link or a PDF document in Safari 7.0.4 this message appears: "Before proceeding you must first launch Adobe Acrobat and accept the End User License Agreement". What can i do to solve this?
Back up all data before making any changes.
Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
Step 2
There should be a setting in the preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and check the box marked
Allow Plug-ins
Then click
Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari. -

Enterprise License Manager Sync Problem
Hi.
I have CUCM 9.1 & Enterprise License Manager. I have installed licenses on Enterprise License Manager and in inventory added CUCM.
Everyting worked fine for 20 days, but from yesterday CUCM is showing below error:-
"The system has not synchronized successfully with Enterprise License Manager for 7 days. If successful synchronization does not occur within the next 53 days, you will no longer be able to provision users and devices."
In Enterprise license manager CUCM status is "Registration Conflict". It also show :-"This product instance is already being managed by another Enterprise License Manager. Product Instances can only be managed by a single Enterprise License Manager. To manage the product instance with this Enterprise License Manager, delete it from this and the other Enterprise License Manager, and then add it to this one."
Also below message is displayed in Enterprise License Manager:-
"Enterprise License Manager is operating in demo mode. Install licenses to cover the licensing requirements of your product instances in order to avoid losing functionality in those products."
Please help to solve this problem.

I have never tried but recommended would be to go for maintenance window.

This means it can be done but why to take a chance.

I develop a product for SharePoint (2010-2013) which propose a new kind of document library. I want to sell it with a license per user. I don't want to rely on the SP2013 online licensing feature.
I develop custom administration pages to register licence keys (specific to my product). Licence keys are stored in SPPersistedObject of the SPFarm. Each licence key gives a number of authorized users; for example you can buy a licence for 100
users. I want that a licence is dedicated to a farm. I developed administration pages to manage these keys.
No my goal is to control the number of users authorized to use my product. Only authorized users can use my special document library.
That's where I need some advices to achieve this: how to manage and store the authorized user list ? Here are some options I thought about :
- a list of SPUser ids in a SPPersistedObject of the farm. Pros: easy to count the number of authorized users. Cons: this object can be heavy (if you have thousands of users) and managing the authorized users in an administration page would be painful.
- a list of SPGroup ids in a SPPersistedObject of the farm. Pros: lightweight and easy to manage. Cons: how to control the number of authenticated users ? If the number of users in registered SPGroup exceeds the license user count, what can I do? Reject

Per my knowledge, the role of SharePoint in licensing is that of a broker: once it retrieves a license token from the Office Store, it allows license managers to add or remove users to a given license (up to the number purchased).
However, it does not enforce the license. Your app must add code to enforce licensing.
To add code to license the apps contains three steps:
import a test license, add code to your app that retrieves and validates the license, and then make decisions based on the outcome.

Setting up a primary and secondary 5508 using Redundancy Port to share 500 user license in HA
I will try and keep this short but I am totally lost. Management purchased a HA package from Cisco consisting of 2 5508's with pre installed 500 users license on the Primary WLC and none on the secondary WLC. We have 5508's already so I am familiar with setting them up and so forth. What I am not familiar with is setting them up using HA for failover and license sharing. I've looked and looked and can't find documentation online showing how to set this up. I have found some but nothing that is complete. I have spent 2 days spinning my wheels. Can someone point me to proper way to config these in HA?

DIAdem 10.2 is the first DIAdem version that is VISTA compatible. Even the DIAdem Base license will allow your users to edit and create REPORT and VIEW layouts, so I don't see any way to stop users from doing that. The Base license will not offer an easy way to create DataPlugins, though, so you could discourage users from writing DataPlugins by assigning them to the Base license list. The NI Volume License Manager utility enables you to specify who is allowed to check out what type of DIAdem license (Base, Advanced, Professional). That is really your only recourse-- DIAdem is otherwise an open tool that encourages users to take advantage of activated features.

Multiple database is created for Head Office and Branches.
Since Finance Accounting Manager is centralized at Head Office, so the Manager must have access to multiple databases.
Can only 1 user license applied to this Finance Accounting Manager?
