Using a tree as a report

Question

I am being asked to create a report that has a feature similar to the excel grouping that hides a section of detail until a [+] is clicked to expand the area. What I have is a report that shows productivity for all employees at a given location for a set of days (location and date range are report inputs). What they want is to have the summary on one line, but to be able to click and expand on any given employee to see the detail records.
Example:
Employee Hours_worked Hours_productive Diff

...Is there a way to do this?

This is possible. In fact, there are several different variations of this technique. Some load the detail information when the page is loaded and then simply use JavaScript to show/hide it. I think your situation is better for suited for Ajax, where the detail records are only brought on the page when requested.
