Using a view as a target - OWB generating unsupported code.

OK, so I have a view that I am using as a target on an INSERT-only mapping. The nature of what I am doing requires that the view uses an INSTEAD OF trigger on insert to handle some back-end details.
The problem?
the mapping code generates and compiles OK, but for the various ROW_BASED modes the generated insert statement includes a clause:
RETURNING ROWID INTO get_rowid
which is unsupported under these circumstances. I assume that this clause is used to get the rowid for auditing purposes, however the code is still generated if I configure the mapping with audit level "AUDIT_NONE".
Now, the set-based code is fine, but with large datasets I like to have the failover to row-based option. Clearly I will have to lose that unless I can get the code to generate without the RETURNING clause.
Anyone else dealt with this before and have a workaround?
Thanks,
Mike

Hi David,
Thanks for the idea. I'll have to do some checking to ensure that DML Error logging handles what is really a syntax error rather than a error on insert/update, that the error doesn't also move the row out of the target and into the error table as is the case for handling errors with DBMS_ERRLOG. The notion that this will then require an error table mining step to look for real data errors rather than these "expected errors" and the overhead of managing cleaning these ERROR tables is not terribly attractive, however it is worth looking at.
My other option, given that with AUDIT_NONE set no code which uses the returned ROW_ID's from this clause should ever be executed, is to write a software patcher which goes through USER_SOURCE and removes the Returning clause from these mappings and recompiles them. Frankly, this is probably the route I'll go as I really don't want to give up the ability to fail over to row-based processing. And given that our installation / patch process is entirely a scripted solution (shell / SQL*Plus / OMB+ scripts on AIX), then this is probably the most viable option.
After all, all I would need to do is spool the package to temp file except the line where text like '%RETURNING ROWID INTO get_rowid% and then source the temp file it to patch each of these mappings.
Thanks,
Mike

  • Problems to generate a graph using 2 views as 2 curves

    Hello everybody
    Please help me fix this problem.
    Oracle 9i Database,reports-->graph wizard
    I have 2 views in the database named FR1,FR2 and these 2 views are nothing but snapshots of data from a single table WDATA for selected data .
         The views are like this
         FR1                         FR2
         NO number(10)                    NO number(10)
         VALUE number(10)               VALUE number(10)
         Each view has 20 records of data
    I need to generate a graph for the 2 views as 2 curves in graph for analysis with NO as X axis and VALUE as Y axis.
    |.::::.
    |
    |________
    But i couldn't manage to generate them.
    When i write a query in report wizard like this
    SELECT * FROM FR1 UNION SELECT * FROM FR2
    I get 40 records but as a single view thereby not possible to generate 2 curves..In this case i get 1 curve with 40 points.
    and if I say
    SELECT * FROM FR1,FR2
    I get 400 records as cartesian product of the 2 views which makes no sense.
    Some one out there please help me..
    Is my approach correct for generating graphs?
    i'm using 9iDS and 9i DB
    thanx in advance
    regards
    Jochen

    jochen,
    you need to join the two tables but use a where clause to prevent a cartesian product.
    so the following select should work
    select a.no, a.value, b.value
    from fr1 a, fr2 b
    where a.no = b.no

  • Why does OWB generate merge statement when target type = Update

    Hi there
    getting problem message cannot generate merge. I don't undretand why even trying to ctreate a merge when should be an update and then sql would be fine.
    trying to update a table whose expiry date = '31-DEC-4000' (via raget filter for update
    and also put value from src into this field.
    This would be ok in sql
    update table
    set col = new_value
    where col = 31-dec-4000'
    Any thoughts - it seems strange why OWB generate a merge when set target type to Update since other target types of Update/Insert and Insert/Update available to generate merge.
    Many Thanks

    I understand what you are trying to say...
    One simple workaround for this is: In the mapping, add one more column in the target table eg: match_val. Set the bound name to match column eg: col.
    Set the one match_val attribute properties to "match column when updating" & actual column eg: col attribute properties to "Load column when updating".
    This will generate merge statement for your requirements. This will help u.

  • Generating mixed case columns for XML using Object views

    I am trying to model a query involving joins to generate hierarchical levels for XML document. I model it with an object view with a multicast subquery and the generated XML works fine except the following :
    The generated XML creates a tag <view_column_name>_ITEM for the nested multicase subquery columns in the view and all the nested subquery view columns in upper case because the underlying table columns are in upper case. To better illustrate, please see the following example :
    CREATE TYPE Tillinstance_t as object (
    "Tillinstanceid" number
    ,"Stationid" number
    ,"Comment" varchar2(2000)
    ,"DepositID" number(38)
    ,"TimestampCreate" date
    ,"UseridCreate" number
    ,"TimestampChange" date
    ,"UseridChange" number
    ,"TimestampClosed" date
    ,"UseridClosed" number
    ,"TimestampBalance" date
    ,"UserIDBalance" number )
    create type insts as table of Tillinstance_t ;
    CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW till_view AS
    SELECT t.tillid as "TillID"

    , t.word as "Word"
    , t.Scopetypeid as "ScopeTypeId"

    AS "Insts"

    The generated XML shows up in the form of :
    <?xml version = '1.0'?>
    <Tills>
    <Till TillID="1002" Descr="Till #3" Word="Till3" ScopeTypeId="8"
    DisplayOrder="0" UserIDCreate="296" TSCR="3/26/2001 0:0:0" UIDCR="296"

    USERIDCHANGE="320"/>
    </Insts>
    </Till>
    </Tills>
    Now How do I stripe out the _ITEM from the generated XML and change the columns TIMESTAMPCREATE, USERIDCLOSED etc to mixed case?
    Any idea

    I could generate the mixed case columns with no problem. It was my mistake and sorry for the inconvinience.
    However I am running into problems modelling a nested hierarchical set of queries with levels more than 2.
    Please advise of any sample code available anywhere.
    For example I could do :
    create table x1 ( id number , f1 varchar2(10));
    creat table x2 ( id number , id_x1 number references x1(id) , f1 varchar2(10)) ;
    create table x3 ( id number , id_x2 number references x2(id), f1 varchar2(10)) ;
    To model this, I did
    create type x3_typ as object ( id number, id_x2 number , f1 varchar2(10)) ;
    create type x3_typ_t is table of x3_typ ;
    create type x2_typ as object ( id number, id_x1 number , f1 varchar2(10), x3_list x3_typ_t ) ;
    create type x2_typ_t is table of ref x2_typ ;
    create type x1_typ as object ( id number
    , f1 varchar2(10) , x2_list x2_typ_t ) ;
    create or replace view x3_x2 as
    select id , f1 , cast(multiset(select * from x3 ) as x3_typ_t ) as x3_list
    If I try to use a view again like as given below, I get the Oracle inconsistent datatypes error.
    create or replace view x2_x1 as
    select id , f1 , cast(multiset(select * from x3_x2 ) as x2_typ_t ) as x2_list
    I there a better way? Am I missing something? Please help.

  • How to use Oracle 10G SQL features in OWB?

    We are using OWB repository 10.2.0.1.0 and OWB client 10.2.0.1.31. The Oracle version is 10 G (10.2.0.3.0). OWB is installed on Linux.
    Oracle 10G SQL offers
    1) Inserting Into a Table with Error Logging
    2) conditional_insert_clause, Specify the conditional_insert_clause to perform a conditional multitable insert.
    Did anyone use above features in OWB10G mapping?
    How do we use them?
    Thanks in advance.
    RI

    Hi,
    Just a thought on the multi-table insert. OWB generates multitable insert when one source is mapped to multiple targets only on the condition that after the splitter there should not be any OWB operator that can change the cardinality of the row-set coming out of the splitter (like joiners, filters, aggregators etc.)..
    Regarding the link, I was wondering where I could find a decent documentation of the shadow table and the DML Error Logging through OWB .. Thanks for the link.
    OWB error messages are basically Oracle Error Messages when you consider the code that gets deployed. Other than that VLD errors are sometimes mysterious and hard to debug.. Hope someone can give us more details on how to handle such VLD errors :)

  • Failed to open the connection error using Business View OLE DB

    I have a Crystal Report built on a Business View with the db being accessed by an OLE driver.  Everything works fine using Crystal Designer, but when I try to access it through BOE I get the "Failed to open the connection" error.  I have the ole drivers installed on the server.
    We are on BOE 12.1.0.
    The db is IBM as400.
    Suggestions??

    Ok so I spent the day trying to find the differences between the working and the non-working application. I began by adding code one piece at a time to the working application. The goal was to try and get it to break on the deployment server. I found the lines of code that is causing the break on the deployment server. Here it is:
        private void setReportParameters()
            try
                crystalReportDocument.SetParameterValue(0, reportUserName.Value);
                crystalReportDocument.SetParameterValue(1, reportArea.Value);
                crystalReportDocument.SetParameterValue(2, reportCDR.SelectedValue);
                crystalReportDocument.SetParameterValue(3, reportStatus.Value);
            catch (Exception ex)
                throw ex;
    This sub-routine is called from my button click code and is used to set the parameters for the report. Once I added this to the working application it broke also. My goal here is to send the parameters to the report from a form the user is filling out. Please keep in mind this code works in Visual Studio 2005 and my local IIS server running on my development machine. It breaks on the target deployment server
    The code broke on reports with sub-reports as well as report with no sub-reports. As soon as it was added and deployed the application through the "Failed to open the connection" error.
    Thoughts?

  • Dynamic binding of items in sap.m.Table using XML views

    Dear SAPUI5 guru's,
    Let's start by saying I'm an ABAP developer who's exploring SAPUI5, so I'm still a rookie at the time of writing. I challenged myself by developing a simple UI5 app that shows information about my colleagues like name, a pic, address data and their skills. The app uses the sap.m library and most of the views are XML based which I prefer.
    The data is stored on an ABAP system and exposed via a gateway service. This service has 2 entities: Employee and Skill. Each employee can have 0..n skills and association/navigation between these 2 entities is set up correctly in the service. The data of this service is fetched from within the app using a sap.ui.model.odata.ODataModel model.
    The app uses the splitApp control which shows the list of employees on the left side (master view). If a user taps an employee, the corresponding details of the employee entity are shown on the right (detail view).
    Up till here everything is fine but I've been struggling with my latest requirement which is: show the skills of the selected employee in a separate XML view when the user performs an action (for the time being, I just created a button on the detail view to perform the action). After some hours I actually got it working but I doubt if my solution is the right way to go. And that's why I'm asking for your opinion here.
    Let's explain how I got things working. First of all I created a new XML view called 'Skills'. The content on this view is currently just a Table with 2 columns:
    <core:View xmlns:core="sap.ui.core" xmlns:mvc="sap.ui.core.mvc" xmlns="sap.m"
      controllerName="com.pyramid.Skills" xmlns:html="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
      <Page title="Skills"
           showNavButton="true"
           navButtonPress="handleNavButtonPress">
      <content>
      <Table
       id="skillsTable">
      <columns>
      <Column>
      <Label text="Name"/>
      </Column>
      <Column>
      <Label text="Rating"/>
      </Column>
      </columns>
      </Table>
      </content>
      </Page>
    </core:View>
    The button on the Detail view calls function showSkills:
    showSkills: function(evt) {
      var context = evt.getSource().getBindingContext();
      this.nav.to("Skills", context);
      var skillsController = this.nav.getView().app.getPage("Skills").getController();
      skillsController.updateTableBinding();
    Within 'this.nav.to("Skills", context);' I add the Skills view to the splitApp and set its bindingContext to the current binding context (e.g. "EmployeeSet('000001')"). Then I call function updateTableBinding in the controller of the Skills view which dynamically binds the items in the table based on the selected employee. So, when the ID of the selected employee is '000001', the path of the table's item binding should be "/EmployeeSet('000001')/Skills"
    updateTableBinding: function(){
      var oTemplate = new sap.m.ColumnListItem(
      {cells: [
              new sap.m.Text({text : "{Name}"}),
              new sap.m.Text({text : "{Rating}"})
      var oView = this.getView();
      var oTable = oView.byId("skillsTable");
      var oContext = oView.getBindingContext();
      var path = oContext.sPath + "/Skills";
      oTable.bindItems(path, oTemplate);
    Allthough it works fine, this is where I have my first doubt. Is this the correct way to bind the items? I tried to change the context that is passed to this.nav.to and wanted it to 'drill-down' one level, from Employee to Skills, but I couldn't manage to do that.
    I also tried to bind using the items aggregation of the table within the XML declaration (<Table id="skillsTable" items="{/EmployeeSet('000001')/Skills}">). This works fine if I hard-code the employee ID but off course this ID needs to be dynamic.
    Any better suggestions?
    The second doubt is about the template parameter passed to the bindItems method. This template is declared in the controller via javascript. But I'm using XML views! So why should I declare any content in javascript?? I tried to declare the template in the XML view itself by adding an items tag with a ColumnListItem that has an ID:
                    <items>
                        <ColumnListItem
                        id="defaultItem">
                        <cells>
                            <Text text="{Name}"/>
                            </cells>
                            <cells>
                            <Text text="{Rating}"/>
                            </cells>
                        </ColumnListItem>
                    </items>
    Then, in the updateTableBinding function, I fetched this control (by ID), and passed it as the template parameter to the bindItems method. In this case the table shows a few lines but they don't contain any data and their height is only like 1 mm! Does anyone know where this strange behaviour comes from or what I'm doing wrong?
    I hope I explained my doubts clearly enough. If not, let me know which additional info is required.
    Looking forward to your opinions/suggestions,
    Rudy Clement.

    Hi everybody,
    I found this post by searching for a dynamic binding for well acutally not the same situation but it's similar to it. I'm trying to do the following. I'm having a list where you can create an order. On the bottom of the page you'll find a button with which you're able to create another order. All the fields are set to the same data binding ... so the problem is if you've filled in the values for the first order and you'll press the button you'll get the same values in the second order. Is it possible to generate a dynamic binding?
    I'm going to post you a short code of what I'm meaning:
    <Input type="Text" value="{path: 'MyModel>/Order/0/Field1'}" id="field1">
         <layoutData>
                    <l:GridData span="L11 M7 S3"></l:GridData>
               </layoutData>
    </Input>
    As you can see I need to set the point of "0" to a dynamic number. Is there any possibility to reach this???
    Hope you can help
    Greetings
    Stef

  • Hand made or generated GUI code, what do proffesional use?

    Hello!
    I am currious about what programs people that work as a programmer use? Is it common that they use programs that generats code like Netbeens for instance? I tryed that program in design mode to make a gui, but when I looked at the code it had generated I could not understand it. When I have seen simple example of gui code that has been hand written I have no trouble to understand the code.
    My opinion is that code is something that others than yourself can read and understand. Wich ofcource is not as simple as it sounds :) The reason I could not understand Netbeens generated code can ofcource be that I am a java beginner.
    So, what I am asking is that:
    1. Is it common that proffesional programmers use programs like Netbeens to generate GUI code ?
    2. The problem that others cant read or understand the code, is it more common that the programmer have used generated code or does the problem as easly occur when the code is hand written?
    Regards

Code generation not only creates messy, undocumented code, but it also leads to hidden mistakes which are the worst kind. I'd rather spend a little more time writing the stuff by hand and not only having full control over the outcome, but also have full knowledge of its inner workings.Thirded. For my money, if you're building rich GUIs that are anything other than trivial, it's probably worth investing some effort in writing a layer of code to simplify building those GUIs. Working with vast amounts of raw Swing, for example, is a painful experience. For our Swing products, we've got a whole library of controls we built specific to our apps. We also wrote a layer of abstraction over the whole of Swing itself, but that's another story. Another alternative is to use a Rich Client Platform like Eclipse RCP, which provides a lot of common, rich components, and a framework for deploying them in, out of the box. Both the Eclipse and NetBeans IDEs are built upon their own respective RCP packages, which are available for you to use for your own apps. All those nice editors, drag-n-drop views, trees, menus, shortcuts and what-not, all just there for you to use without having to write any tiresome window-resizing code. Lovely. I don't know about IntelliJ, but I wouldn't be surprised if it, too, did so. Spring RCP is another such package.

  • How to determine the slew rate of an amplifier using lab view

    gud evening all
    I have an op amp circuit built on the NI ELVIS board and I input a square wave from function generator to the circuit. I have to determine the slew rate of the op amp.In the labs, one would run the square wave over a range of frequencies and stop when the square wave looks like a triangular wave. At that frequency, one would then measure the slope of the signal and that will give you the slew rate. How can I do that in LabVIEW? How can I check when my square wave starts looking like a triangular wave? please help

    thank you johnsold
    i designed a voltage follower using 741, on an Ni elvis instrument. i can manually do the slew rate experiment by varying the frequency range on the coasre frequency knob( using a square wave) of the function generator until the slew rate occurs at 0.5volts, my problem is how can i do the same experiment with built in vi in labview with out touching the knob on the function generator and once the triangular wave starts to show the lab view program will automatically stop.

  • OWB Code generator - does not generate consistent code in every deployment

    Hi,
    I have a mapping to load dimension WM_USERS_ADVISORS_DIM.
    Every time I generate the code for this mapping code generated is different than previous. Hence the query optimization applied at database level does not work.
    following are 2 different queries generated for the same mapping.
    Also, In target load order for this dimension, automatically values are populated like USERS_ADVISORS_STG, where as I have not declared this table/dim.
    I am unable to remove this from load order. Every time code gets generated these _STG is added to each level in Dimension.
    Please suggest how to have a consistent ETL generated every single time ETL deploys?

    Hello,
    These wrappers were separated into different templates.  What you would need to do is to run the templates that you need. You can find these templates in the C:\Program Files\National Instruments\MATRIXx\mx_71.4\case\ACC\templates folder.
    Hope this helps.

  • Use of View in ODI

    Hi All,
    we know that we can apply reverse engineering on tables only.
    But suppose instead of table i have view in the target data daatstore ( oracle). It is possible to reverse the view from the target oracle to model ( folder) in ODI?. If yes then How to can we we can use in the interface & can apply CDC on that view?
    There is a resctriction we can use tables of target datastore.
    Actually If somebody knows about ( ORACLE WORK SPACE MANAGER - OWM) .
    OWM is used for data versoining so if we add any table in OWM, the tables get convetred into views and some columns have been added to that table & is used for data versioning & maintenace.
    So my target datastore tables resides IN OWM and requirement is to use view for inserting data into target tables.
    Thanks
    Neeraj

    yes we can reverse the views in ODI
    go to the data model in the reverse tab there in the "Types of objects to reverse -engineer" un check the table option and select the View option and reverse it u will be able to reverse the view..

  • Data Replication Between Sqlserver and Oracle11g using materialized view.

    I have Sqlserver 2005 as my source and oracle11g as my target.I need to populate the target daily with change data from source.
    for that we have created a dblink between sqlserver and oracle and replicated that table as a Materialized view in Oracle.
    problem we are getting here is Fast refresh option is not available.each day it will pick full data from the source.
    is there any way to use Fast refresh in this scenario??
    Thanks in advance.
