Using Bootcamp for Windows XP Installation

Forgive the irony of asking this question on an Apple forum. I'm planning to use Bootcamp to install Windows XP on my MBP. I have a legitimate WinXP SP2 license currently installed on a desktop PC that I plan to decommission. How do I deauthorize the WinXP installation on my desktop PC? I believe I need to do this before installing the WinXP license on another computer (including a Mac).
Microsoft has been less than helpful with this question. Unfortunately, I need WinXP for one or two applications.
Thanks for any help!

If the XP install was some time ago, the normal activation may work and you'll not need to call.
I forget the time limit but Microsoft only keeps x number of days the activation information for your computer. This was done as a compromise because of fears that M$ was collecting and holding that information for other purposes.

  • I want to use Bootcamp for Windows 7. Need Help

I want to install Windows 7 onto my Macbook Pro using Leopard software.
I go to Utilities and run Boot Camp Support Software. When I get to the "Download Windows Support Software" I click on "Download the Windows support software for this Mac." When I do, it comes back unable to download the software.
What am I doing wrong, or what other step can I take to download this support software?
    Thanks for any help.

You always need drivers for a computer.
And after Windows is installed, you have to run Setup.exe off your OS X DVD.
Apple has so far failed to provide pre-install drivers except for MacBook Air. And that is what is being referred to - the pre-install part is totally borked.

  • How to change  FAT to  NFTS for Windows 7  Boot Camp                                                                                  How to change Fat to NFTS on BootCamp for Windows 7

When I try to start BootCamp for Windows 7, I cannot change FAT to NTFS. I have created CDS for BootCamp upgrades 3.1 3.2 and 3.3.
Can't use them with Windows 7 disc in player. What to do?

Boot Camp creates a partition for you to install Windows into. Typically if you chose a size less than 32GB it will initially be FAT32, if bigger it will be NTFS. However what it is, is rather irrelevant. When you install Windows 7 it only allows using NTFS for a boot drive and it will automatically reformat that partition to NTFS if needed.

  • Printer shared from my Mac is not seen from a PC using Bonjour for Windows

I am going nuts here, hope someone can help.
I have a Canon multi-function printer (MP830) attached via USB to a Mac G4 (with Mac OS X Tiger). At one time, I had it set so a Windows 2000 PC could print to it but deinstalled it after some printing issues, and have been unable to get to working again. The machines are connected together via a Netgear router. As far as I know, everything is the same as it was before, yet I cannot get it to work as it did.
    - The printer works fine from the Mac.
    - If I connect the printer to the PC, it works fine.
    - On the PC, using Bonjour for Windows, I cannot see the printer attached to the Mac but I can see, and print to, an Epson printer that is attached to a different Mac.
    - And from the second Mac, I am able to see -- but not successfully print to -- the Canon printer. The print job stays in the queue of the second Mac and says "Unable to connect to SAMBA host, will retry... Error: Connection failed with error."
    - I have tried:
-- de-installing and re-installing Bonjour for Windows and the Canon print drivers on the PC
-- and have de-installed and re-installed the Canon drivers on the Mac
-- I have removed and re-added the Canon printer on the Mac. Printer Sharing is on, and this printer is checked in the Sharing box.
    Any suggestions?
G4 Quicksilver and Dell PC with Windows 2000   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Canon MP830

Thank you. Those are beautifully written procedures.
Looks like it's a network issue. I reach the step, "Adding a printer using the wizard":
You must enter the following URL, you must use the Queue Name you noted down earlier
    http://<IP address of Mac>:631/printers/Queue Name
    which I do, entering
    http://192.168.0.4:631/printers/MP830
and I get the following error:
"Could not connect to the printer. You either entered a printer name that was incorrect or the specified printer is no longer connected to the server."
    And then I am toast!
Using the other procedure, I simply don't see the Mac's printers in the Bonjour Wizard's "Browse for Bonjour Printers" window.
Not sure where to go from here -- any ideas?
The Mac's IP (set via DHCP) is 192.168.0.4, subnet mask 255.255.255.0. The PC is 192.168.0.5, I can't find the subnet mask.
Pretty sure it's a network config issue, especially isnce I can Bonjour to my other Mac.
    TIA...

    Hi jerryoops,

Please consider purchasing the latest version Photoshop Elements 11.0 which is compatible with Windows 8.

  • Start Menu Configuration not being saved using BootCamp in Windows 7

On a couple nearly identical MacBook Pros (ordered and built within the last couple months) I've encountered an issue where my Start Menu configuration is not being saved using BootCamp in Windows 7. Only the 64 bit version was tested, I don't have a 32 bit handy.
"Stickying" icons on the top of the shortcuts seems to hold, but changing the display to small icons, adding "administrative tools", menu displays from opening folders to showing lists, or even just telling it to not highlight newly installed programs are lost on a reboot. The changes do appear to work at first, but again, are lost on reboot.
Fwiw I'm using the machine in an Active Directory environment. If you need any additional information or further details just ask.

  • Using Lightroom for Windows 8.1 with Epson Stylus Photo R3000 printer.

Using Lightroom for Windows 8.1 with Epson Stylus Photo R3000 printer.  From PRINT section, if I click either "Page Setup" or "Printer" I get the Epson printer dialog box, drill down, change settings- so far so good.  When I'm finished with the settings and close the dialog box (hit OK) the print job starts immediately; I never get a chance to hit the Lightroom "Print" button.  Question: does this bypass any Lightroom processing or control of the print job?

Even if I just click the Printer button to verify my settings I should then return to Lightroom, and then click Print to start the job.  This does not happen, the job starts as soon as I close the properties dialog box.  Again, is any Lightroom processing or control being bypassed because of this?

  • Updated bootcamp for Windows 7

Do you think that Apple will soon release an updated Bootcamp for Windows 7 beta? Version 2.1 is working fine with my MBP but it's getting too hot. I think they still have to fine tune it for Windows 7.

Not until W7 ships. But it would still be nice to see a 2.2 or later version of Boot Camp. By the time W7 is out probably be a year from now and need BC 3.0
W7 is easier on batteries so some have switched from Vista to enjoy longer battery life.

  • When installing Windows 7 using Bootcamp, expanding windows files gets stuck at 65%?

I was installing Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on my Macboom Pro Retina with Bootcamp, and when it reached the "expanding windows files" stage, it got stuck at 0%. I waited a few minutes, and the percentage began to increase until it got to 65%, at which it stopped again. I left it for a while, but after coming back nearly an hour later, it was still stuck at 65%, so I canceled the installation by clicking the close button of the installation window. It froze after that. I could move my cursor, but I couldn't click anything. I got impatient and held down the power button to shut it down manually. When I restarted the Mac, it played the normal startup sound then went to a black screen with a blinking dash symbol in the upper left corner. It's now stuck on this screen. I'm scared I might have really screwed up my computer. What do I do?

Edit: Fixed it by just holding down the option key when it restarted. Don't know why I didn't think of that before. I also removed the partial Windows download and the whole Windows disc partition using Bootcamp.
I think the reason why it didn't work is because I used an OEM version of Windows 7, which is to say I bought the licence key off of some website for $35 and they emailed me with the key and an .iso of Windows 7. I read somewhere that using OEMs with Bootcamp is not recommended. But that leads me to another problem - I really do want Windows on my Mac since I have some programs that would only run on Windows and I bought PhotoShop Elements 12 for the Windows platform and to switch platforms I would need to upgrade to 13, which costs almost as much as buying the original. And I don't want to go buy a proper Windows installation disc, that would mean wasting the $35 I already spent.
So is there any way I can actually install Windows safely with my OEM version of it?

  • Using parallels for windows xp on my macbook

Hello. I want to take online GIS classes from ERSI this winter and am thinking about buying parallels to run their software (which is only supported by windows xp or vista). I am basically pretty computer illiterate and am not really sure about the most cost efficient way of setting this up. I know I have to buy parallels (or bootcamp, which is better for this case?), then buy the windows software, then install and hope for no hiccups the GIS training software (which is not supported by the ERSI online team when run on a mac). Has anybody gone through this specific or related procedure before and what kind of results did you have? Is my plan sound? With my tiger operating system do I still have to buy bootcamp, is that better to use than parallels? I don't have any other plans to use windows except maybe to send photos through my hotmail account. I will greatly appreciate any advice and/or direction you can provide. Thank you,
    Dave

    Hi,
I use Parallels with Windows XP and it runs just fine. I need Windows for one application that is not any where to be found for Macintosh. Follow the Parallels directions for installation and you should have any problems. To use Bootcamp you would need to be running Leopard.

  • Trying to install windows on Mac using bootcamp, but windows won't install?

I've been working tirelessly on installing a burned to disk windows 7 on my MacBook Pro using bootcamp. Everything worked fine, I booted up windows but the problem was that it wouldn't install at all and just told me that the disk may be corrupted or missing? I noticed the disk was scratched so I reburned it to another disk. When I went to restart the Mac to boot up windows and try the installation again, a message came up saying: "NTFS - 3G could not mount /dev/disk0s4 at /volumes/untitled because the following problem occurred: dyld: library not loaded/ usr /local/libfuse.2dylib referenced from: /usr/local/bin/ntfs-3g reason: image not found." Could this be saying something about the disk? Is there an easy way to just install the **** thing?? In really tired with this, thank you do much for any help.

  • VMWare vs. Bootcamp for first time installation...thoughts?

I've got an early 2008 MacPro 2.8ghz with 10gb of RAM. I have 300gb and 500gb internal hard drives; the 300gb drive is the OS X start-up drive.
I'm looking to install the Win 7 beta and eventually buying Win 7 when it's released so I can run a few Windows programs (like a non-crippled version of Excel, one that supports VB and macros).
Would I be better off buying VM Fusion 2.0 or going with Bootcamp. I'm primarily interested in a) stability; b) speed when running under either operating system; c) installation ease. Hot-swapping is appealing but not essential if it means significantly compromising stability or speed.
Also, can I install the Win 7 partition on the second 500gb drive to allow for a bigger dedicated Win partition. I have 100gb left on the Mac OS drive, and using it for Win 7 would probably leave me with a too-small Win partition while simultaneously limiting my OS X space.

Thanks much, but can I get one clarification? When you say "pull" my OS X drive, I'm not sure I'm following you. Don't I need to run Bootcamp from my OS X drive to begin the Win 7 installation?
I've never tried installing Win on a Mac (6-yr Mac user, 25-yr PC/Win user). I'm guessing your saying I should physically pull the OS X drive to take it out of play, then boot from the Win install disk and choose the remaining drive?
