Using external keyboard w 10 key buttons

I've got an A1048 keyboard connected to my MacBook Pro (it's got all my Final Cut Pro stickers on it) and the 10 key pad doesn't work. It seems like it's acting as a function key or something. When I start typing on it (out of habit), I can't enter text anymore unless I press several keys at random and it "unlocks". The rest of the keys work, and the keyboard works with my iMac Intel. Is there a system preference I should be checking?

I wonder if it could be a problem with a "Universal Access" System preferences setting, Grant.
It sounds as if "Mouse Keys" is turned on on the MBP. Head to System preferences / Universal Access and check under the "Mousae and Trackpad" tab.

I think you forgot to mention which ThinkPad you have. It would be even better if you could post the Type and Model Number as this will help members to hopefully help you. If it ends in CTO please provide some details about the ThinkPad. Please do NOT post your s/n.

External keyboard and modifier keys

I like to swap my "Ctrl" and "Command" modifiers keys and I've never had a problem doing this until upgrading to Lion. If I disconnect and reconnect my external keyboard sometimes my modifier keys are reset.
Lion lets you change modifier keys per keyboard which is where I think the problem lies. I also have duplicate listings for my external keyboard and I'm not sure how to delete the duplicates.
Does anyone know how to fix these issues?

Also, I'm not sure if it matters but my mouse and keyboard are connected through a USB hub which then connects to the Macbook Air.

Sorry I don't know how to set keys to the brightness function. But if you're interested in a workaround....
You can use the Displays preferences in System Preferences to adjust the brightness. A quick way to get to the Displays preferences is to select the option to show the displays in the menu bar, from within the Displays preferences. The last item in this displays menu is the option to show the Displays preferences.
The setup sounds kind of circular, huh? Well, it works, but it's definitely not the same as using the keyboard. But with this option, you can get to the brightness setting in one click, and then set the brightness with one more. Pretty quick, though not totally painless.

Using apple keyboard's default keys (play/pause, next, previous song) with iTunes on windows 7

Hi,
I'm using my apple keyboard (wired with numpad) connected to a windows 7 machine. I'd like to know if there is any way for the default iTunes keys (previous song, play/pause song and next song) to work on windows? It's very annoying to constantly alt tab to iTunes and use the arrow keys and spacebar... Also, can I link the mute, lower and higher sound buttons to the audio output?

I have this same problem, but with Windows XP Pro. It MUST be a iTunes and a Microsoft IntelliType driver issue.
I JUST reinstalled my computer and loaded all new everything and the buttons worked off and on (depending on focus). I don't remember doing anything to make it work last time. The only thing I remember was installing a plug-in so my ATI Remote Wonder worked with iTunes.
I downloaded Chris's dll as suggested. Worked flawlessly. I hope Apple and/or Microsoft fix this in the next release of their software.

T510 with docking station and SD-8821 external keyboard - stupid Fx key settings

So I have a 510. Its running XP Pro. It is attached to a docking station and I have an SD-8821 external "slim" keyboard pulgged in.
My problem is the row of function keys along the top. I need to use F1 through F12 often in my work, the keys are set to control stuff like volume, sleep, lock, etc. In order to get the Fx function, I have to press the Fn key first.
I have scoured the internet and there seems to be a an app to change this but my notebook does not have it. I cannot find it on the Lenovo web site either. How do I get it? This is driving me nuts.

On the Apple Wireless Keyboard it's in the same place as on the MBP keyboard - bottom left. On the Apple Keyboard (USB) it's just below the F13 key (above the 'inverted-T' arrow keys).

Using the keyboard to activate a button

Say I have a JTextfield and a JButton. I want the Enter key to do the same thing as clicking on the JButton. I thought there might be a way to do it by having the JTextfield watch for "/n", but I couldn't figure it out. I searched ActionEvent in the documentation, and I didn't find much help there either.

Hmm... JTextField supports ActionListeners, the same as a JButton, so if you register an ActionListener with the field, hitting enter is supposed to fire an ActionEvent.

I just got myself a logitech keyboard case. It works fine. But I have this questions regarding selecting spelling suggestions. Is there a way or a key combination that can be used for selecting the spelling suggestion without touching the ipad i.e. from the keyboard itself?

S6000 external keyboard keys repeating

I have the S6000 with the external keyboard and the keys tend to repeat most of the time, even with a single tap. Is there a setting that I am missing? The virtual keyboard works fine.

I have found that my BT keyboard starts to repeat when it is low on charge. Charging it solves the problem.

Why you dont press the power button on the notebook?
If you want to wake up the notebook from i.e hibernation then you have to press the power button.

External keyboard that compatible with mac

I'm using macbook pro 13 inch with mountain lion installed in it. I want to use external keyboard because i want to keep a distance between my eyes and the screen. But i want a wired keyboard, and for me I will not choosing wireless keyboard because it use some batteries. Also sometime the bluetooth connection not so good (in some cases i read in the review). I know that apple has its own keyboard but for me the price still expensive for a wired keyboard. So, what is the keyboard that suite with mac? Is it all keyboard including windows type keyboard? Any cheap keyboard compared to apple's one?

Boy you hit an old thread. I don't know that zikeryn is still around, so I'll throw my thoughts in here. My first Apple USB Extended keyboard lasted about 1 1/2 years - and the I (stupidly) tried to clean it with a very moist (read WET) micro-fiber cloth and got liquid in the keyboard. My bad, so I can't blame the keyboard. I rushed right out (to Amazon) and purchased another. I love this keyboard - I was lost when I had to go back to using my built-in keyboard. It's sturdy like a brick - it just doesn't like water!
I would urge you to go for it - unlike third-party keyboards that may have drivers, System Preference panes, etc., this on just, as I said, WORKS.

Recording external keyboard

Hi - am new to GB although have used logic express.
Am using external keyboard, through a firewire 410 interface. Interface is working fine with GB for midi, but not for external sounds - interface is picking up sounds from keyboard, but nothing is coming through into GB (have tried everything suggested, e.g. checking prefs & making sure monitor is on, etc).
Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks - have tried that, and it sees my firewire 410 fine (and is receiving midi signal fine as well.
I also get a load of input options in the instrument info bit (e.g. firewire stereo 1/2), which suggests that it's picking it up - just get no audio from it, no matter what I try.
Am sure that the connection between my instrument and the 410 is working, cos it shows input lights when receiving sound ok.

Trying to setup actkbd for external keyboard

Hi, actkbd works fine for my laptop's keyboard. However I am trying to setup actkbd for the media keys in my external keyboard also.
So, i tried running
sudo actkbd -s -n -d /dev/input/by-id/usb-Logitech_USB_Receiver-event-kbd
in the terminal, however it does not show any codes for my external keyboard's media keys. when i checked in "showkey and showkey -s" it shows that the external keyboard's media keys have the same scancodes and keycodes as the internal keyboard.
How do i make my external keyboard's keys work with actkbd?

Yes, NAT and DNS are turned on, but I wonder if my DNS settings are right. Do you know what they should be?
