Using Fade in conjunction with SubmitForm xhRequest response

Question

I am using the Spry.Utils.SubmitForm function as detailed on the Spry example pages.  The problem I am running into is that I also want to use the Fade effect to fade the div away after, say 5, seconds.
No matter what combination of possibilities I try it won't work.
Here is the code for the function that is working perfectly:
function updateResponseDiv(req)
//dsStories = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("getdata.php", "stories/story", {useCache:false});
dsStories.loadData();
var response = req.xhRequest.responseText;
Spry.Utils.setInnerHTML('form_response', response);
Here is the latest attempt of the code that I have tried:

dsStories.loadData();
var response = req.xhRequest.responseText;
Spry.Effect.DoFade('form_response', {duration: 5000, from: 100, to: 0, setup: function(){ Spry.Utils.setInnerHTML('form_response', response); } });
When I use the "updateResponseDiv2" nothing seems to happen after the call to re-load the XML dataset dsStories.
Any help on this would be appreciated!
