Using lightroom and Dxo together.

I have been using DXO for sometime now and love the results I get. While the images are not what I would consider a final product, I think of them as a good base to work from. I absolutely love light room and would love to use both of these programs together in a way that is easy and time efficient. I hate that Light room does not automatically detect new images (like bridge does) because then I could easily just put the dxo edits into a sub folder of the main directory which would keep them nicely organized with the originals and still keep them separate and light room would automatically see them this way. Is there a way to do this that inst a complete hassle?

I am keeping everything in raw pretty much until I output it. I I just have light room setup to automatically import everything once I put my card in. In DXO, I output the corrected files into DNG. In light room I use the library module to quickly sort through all of my pictures and assign ratings. I usually give myself 1-4 stars and only edit those with a three star rating or higher. I never give myself five starts because I am my own worst critic. I do all my basic corrections in the develop module. I find it to be very intuitive which allows me to quickly move through a large number of images. I find that DXO gives me a much better base to work off of which saves me time. I only output to tiff or jpeg when I edit files in photoshop where I sharpen for final output (printing or web) or do any extensive edits. I never use the other modules because I have access to a fuji frontier at work so I do all my printing there.

  • Using Lightroom and Iphoto Together

Can anyone point me to a tutorial or provide information on the best way to utilize Lightroom with Iphoto? I have read several posts which are contradictory in regards to importing photos into Lightroom from Iphoto. Some say to export files to Finder and then use Lightroom to import. Others say to open Iphoto Package Contents, make alias and use Lightroom to import. I am a new mac user and would like some clarification before I screw it all up. I like the ease of Iphoto for everyday organization, emailing and flickring but would like to import selected photos or events into Lightroom for processing. Thx a bunch.

What are you trying to do, exactly?
Both LR and iPhoto are photo managers. iPhoto is firmly pointed at the home user with a point and shoot camera, LR is a professional grade application aimed squarely at the Raw shooter.
In either case +they both do the same job+, so using both is a bit like writing your Novel in Word and also in Pages at the same time.
Assuming you want to import pics from your camera, store them, process them and then organise them into albums etc, I would use Lightroom. It's just a more powerful app for the job.
Then, if there's something that LR can't do - for instance, Slideshows or books or whatever - then export the pics you want to use from LR to the Finder and import into iPhoto, or use *_this_* LR plug in to automate the process.
I have read several posts which are contradictory in regards to importing photos into Lightroom from Iphoto.
You need to understand something. Both Application are Databases. A photo needs to be imported before they can even see or manipulate it. While Aperture can read the iPhoto database, LR is utterly oblivious to the iPhoto DB and vice versa.
Some say to export files to Finder and then use Lightroom to import.
    This is the correct way.
Others say to open Iphoto Package Contents, make alias and use Lightroom to import.
Never, ever do this. Any slight change to the path of the file and your iPhoto Library is toast.
but would like to import selected photos or events into Lightroom for processing.
Frankly, this sounds to me more like a job for Photshop Elements rather than LR.

  • Using Lightroom with DXO Optics

    Hello,
I've just started using Lightroom and on the advice of a friend, have also started using DXO Optics Pro. From what I have read, DXO is used to make global modifications and Lightroom to specific modifications. There does seem to be some overlap with features between the two products. My eye is not sharp enough to see differences, if any, in the adjustments I might make in DXO vs Lightroom such as tone curve, hue etc. I am wondering if anyone who has used DXO has noticed if DXO handles certain modifications better then Lightroom and visa versa. Am I really better off making most or all of my global changes in DXO?
    Thanks,
    Michael

If you are working with raw data, you kind of have to decide at one point you'll lose that full capability using these two products. If you do lens correction or other work in Dx0, you'll have to pass partially processed (linear DNG) to LR so you're not really working with raw data any longer. That's an important consideration in the workflow. Anyway, there was a recent thread about this on Luminous Landscape, you might want to pick through it then come back and ask questions here (or there):

  • Hibernate problem..... using projection and conjunction together..

    hi all ,
can we use projection and conjunction together??
i want to execute a query like this..
    select column_1 , column_2 from table_name where column_1 like '%a' ;

    hi ian
you could also try verifying if the jar libraries containing your Document and Paragraph classes are defined in your class path OR if you are using an IDE, did you include that under your LIbraries?
The previous suggestion below also is a stop-gap to the library inclusion problem.
    Hope that helps

  • Using Lightroom and Aperture, will a new ATI 5770/5870 vs. GT 120 improve performance?

I have a MP (2009, 3.3 Nehalem Quad and 16GB RAM) and wanted to improve performance in APERTURE (see clock wheel processing all the time) with edits, also using Lightroom, and sometimes CS5.
Anyone with experience that can say upgrading from the GT120 would see a difference and how much approximately?
Next, do I need to buy the 5870 or can I get the 5770 to work?
I am assuming I have to remove the GT120 for the new card to fit?
    Thanks

Terrible marketing. ALL ATI 5xxx work in ALL Mac Pro models. With 10.6.5 and later.
It really should be yours to just check AMD and search out reviews that compare these to others. You didn't look at the specs of each or Barefeats? He has half a dozen benchmark tests, but the GT120 doesn't even show up or in the running on most.
From AMD 5870 shows 2x the units -
    TeraScale 2 Unified Processing Architecture
    1600 Stream Processing Units
    80 Texture Units
    128 Z/Stencil ROP Units
    32 Color ROP Units
    ATI Radeon™ HD 5870 graphics
    That should hold up well.
Some are on the fence or don't want to pay $$

SELECT 'SELECT ' || DISTINCT COLUMN || ' FROM DUAL UNION ALL '
FROM TABLE;Whenever you have a problem, please post CREATE TABLE and INSERT statments for a little sample data, and the results you want from that data.
The example you posted has so many mistakes, it's hard to know what you're trying to do.
COLUMN, DISTINCT and TABLE are all Oracle keywords, and shouldn't be used for actual columnor table names, and using them for aliases is just asking for trouble.
When using SELECT DISTINCT, the keyword DISTINCT must come immediately after SELECT.
If you want to assign an alias to a column, it must be at the very end of the expression that defines the column. You can't assign an alias to part of an expression. If you want to do that, use a sub-query.
Here's a query that uses both SELECT DISTINCT and ||:
    SELECT DISTINCT
            job || deptno    AS jd
FROM    scott.emp;Edited by: Frank Kulash on May 13, 2011 2:52 PM

  • Using Airport And Ethernet Together

Having read Christopher Breen's solution to using Airport and Ethernet together,
    http://www.macworld.com/weblogs/mac911/2006/10/airportswitch/index.php
I am still wondering if this can apply to my situation. I have an Airport Exteme BS distributing the wireless signal on it's own node. Nothing is physically connected to the BS except an ethernet cable running to a hub which is connected to the cable modem. While my ISP service isn't supplying service faster than Airport will manage, no problem...but, I would like to have the advantage ethernet networking between my machines for all the advantages that ethernet speed can bring to that situation.
My connection to the internet is from WAN from the cable modem. I have an ethernet connection from the BS that I can run a cable back to say, an iBook. Will this work? I want wireless internet, but ethernet for machine to machine networking.

    iBook G3/500 G4/Dual 450 Mac OS X (10.4)

Helpful response, but I am uncertain this is what I am after. First, the hub is at the other end of the house, inconvenient to run a cable to it in this way. Presently, "Distribute IP Addresses" is turned off. This is way it had to be set since the AEBS is on a separate node. I just wonder why I can't run a cable from the AEBS LAN port back to the iBook. Looking for best possible speed when networking from my studio G4 while keeping the wireless internet setting.
Any reason making the config the way I am imagining will not work?

  • Using Lightroom and iPhoto

I use Lightroom and iPhoto. I mainly use Lightroom for everything. If it's personal photos I use iPhoto but mostly Lightroom. If I want to share these and/or sync with other devices like AppleTV, iPhone, MobileMe then I have to export from Lightroom to iPhoto. That doubles up on files and hard drive space. What do others do that use Lightroom and iPhoto? I love being able to share and sync with iPhoto but it's just to much to ask of my Hard Drives.

Few people use both Lightroom and iPhoto - they both do essentially the same thing but are different and in the past iPhoto has found LR processed photos unacceptable - and they can not operate on the same physical photos - you must export photos form LR and import them into iPhoto since they both manage photos
If you want to use both you will have to have photos imported into each
Fortunately external hard drives are cheap -- iPhoto is perfectly happy having its library on an EHD

  • Using Lightroom and PS Elements

I have been a Lightroom user since the beginning and have PSCS3 for when I need to do some more involved editing. (Not very often - probably 95% of my editing/adjustments are done in Lightroom exclusively, including my RAW conversions.)
I have a friend who swears by PS Elements - which I have not used since I believe version 2. I played a bit on his computer and felt that probably everything that I use PSCS3 for I could also do in Elements. But I really don't need the Organizer - have already done all the importing/keywording in LR. So do if I decide to try out the trial version of PSE8:
    (1) Do I have to install the Organizer?
    (2) If I do have to install it, is there a way to bypass it - either from Windows or from Lightroom - and go straight to the Editor?
    (3) What will I be missing from PSCS if I start with Elements - aside from 16 bit editing, which I VERY rarely do?
    (4) Can Elements open any existing PSCS files I have?
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hi Steve,
Welcome to the world of PSE. I am glad that you are thinking of moving to PSE.
Here are the responses to your query:
    1. Organizer and Editor are installed together on the machine, there is no way you can just install PSE Editor.
    2. Simple way to bypass Organizer, is to go to ProgramFiles\Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0\ folder and create a desktop shortcut of PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe on the desktop and invoke it directly in place of PSE Welcome Screen.
    3. In a nutshell, PSE is a subset of Ps CS3, so there will be some differences/limitations in PSE for sure. Say for e.g., there will be fewer adjustment layers, Pen tool and Patch tool aren't supported in PSE 6.0, Actions cannot be played(supported from E7 onwards), there will be no separate animation panel, etc.I would suggest you install PSE 8(current version) in trial and since you are less on edting side, so i think you will get what all limited editing functionality you strive for.
    4. Elements can open Ps CS3 files successfully with ease.
    Hope this helps.

  • My account lost information about my order and subscription. As a result I can't use Lightroom and Photoshop as they are in the state of the expired demo.

    Hi
I paid my annual subscription on the 26th of November last year. I've installed both Lightroom and Photoshop and started using them quite successfully.
Then I installed the same products on my home Mac and migrated all my Apperture libs to it. Everything went smoothly.
However one day I got a message that I can't develop photos in Lightroom due to my account problems.  I logged in into my adobe id to check what's wrong and realized that my account was on free creative cloud.
I tried to check my other appleIds - all were empty. I found a link at the Adobe FAQ how to check orders but the page didn't find my order number I took from the Adobe order confirmation email.
Does anybody know how to make it all working again? How to link again my paid order to my AdobeId?

  • Using generics and J2SE together with JSF

    Hi
Has anybody experience with using JSF together with J2SE 1.5? Especially generics? I would like to use generics and other improvements from J2SE in the model objects.
    Thnaks in advance ... Rick

JSF 1.1 is specified for J2SE 5, and the new specification (JSF 1.2 and JSP 2.1) does not include generics.
If you are talking in terms of ValueBindings or MethodBindings, there really isn't any point since the implementation could only make the cast for you; and it would still not be able to garuantee type safety (the only reason to use generics).
That's not to say you couldn't use generics in your own development, but I don't think you will see generics incorporated into the specification any time soon.

  • Using Lightroom and Indesign CS5

    Hi,
I used in the past Indesign CS3 to create a book.  It went fairly well.  that was before I started using Lightroom, which now holds my complete catalogue, edits, etc.
I've recently proceeded to create Collections in Lightroom for three books I want to start working on.  I just downloaded Indesign CS5 trial.  I am wondering if there is Lightroom support in Indesign CS5?  I'd really want to have the ability to import photos directly from Lightroom without having to export them in a specific folder to work in Indesign.  It seems to me it would be a waste of disk space since exporting files would simply create duplicates; no to mention I'd need to re-export them every time I would create modifications to the files in Lightroom...
I think this is a feature that has been requested here and there from Indesign users in CS4?
    Thanks,
    Martin

The point of RAW or DNG is, as the name implies, is to create the digital equivalent of a "negative". A format where the original camera data is preserved and can be "developed" later—the development settings are not actually applied until the file is converted. The advantage of the format is obvious when you take a shot with the wrong camera settings.
There's nothing forcing you to use the digital negative workflow. You could shoot an image format like .jpeg and use LR for content management and ID's Mini Bridge panel for placing.
There isn't much point in making CMYK conversions in PS—InDesign is capable of making the same color managed conversion on export or print.
