Using Lightscribe for DVD printing

Anyone out there use Lightscribe? Am I correct in that the dvd burner on my imac supports this program?

I really don't know enough about them to recommend one, but the Apple Store has a LaCie d2 with Lightscribe. LaCie has made quality Apple products for many years.

  • Using Illustrator for sublimation printing.

My 12 year old son wants to use Illustrator to create patterns for sublimation printing onto socks.  Is this the best Adobe software option?  Can it convert .pdf to . ai if his customers send us a .pdf?  Does it accept .jpeg and convert to .ai?

You can print however you want, but a pixel-based image like a JPEG won't magically turn into vectors nor is there any guarantee that PDFs a) only contain vector data (they may hold pixel images) and b), if there is vector info, it is easily editable so you can tweak it for printing. This is potentially a whole can of worms and we haven't even talked about color management or other stuff that may be relevant. Of course everything can be learned, but it's not like you plug in your shiny printer, fire up AI and it will happen. Learning some basic techniques will be inevitable.

  • Using compressor3 for DVD but no audio? Any suggestions?

I made a quicktime ref movie of 1 hour show and dragged into compressor 3 ... but no audio on quicktime?

    Hi:
For DVD use you have to encode your video to MPEG2 (I think you did it) and your audio to AIFF or Dolby 2 (AC3) in separated files.
    Hope that helps !

  • Using Photoshop for offset printing projects (packaging) - simple or complex?

    Hi,
I'm about to start a new project. It's a product package (box).
Normally, I would do this in Illustrator. However, I was wondering if I could do it all in Photoshop by saving the final output as a PDF.
I've only ever used Photoshop in 4-color process scenarios and numeric printing. In other words, "sky's the limit" scenarios, where all I need to care about is how it looks on the screen. I'm not sure how to attack this from the perspective of offset printing.
I've checked with the printer, and he says a CMYK PDF is fine. But that the basic rules of offset still apply.
First, is it realistic of me to envision doing this box in Photoshop? It would really save me a lot of time not having to switch back and forth from PS to AI the way I usually do in projects like these.
How would I go about telling a text layer to use a specific offset pantone, or pure black, for instance?
Am I making too big a deal out of something simple, or am I being unreasonably simplistic regarding something more complex?

...or am I being unreasonably simplistic regarding something more complex?
Probably yes (no offense). Just a few random thoughts:
    - you can't do die, glue and fold lines in PS as you can't do specific other custom print marks required for stamping, foil coating, varnishing or whatever
    - process colors in PS are limited to multichannel/ duotones/ tritones and since they will be raster, they will never print sharp, especially when printing on something like uncoated C or G flute
    - similarly, barcodes and other required markings may not print correctly
So no, there is possibly no way you can do this in just PS. In particular the cutting part will require a complementary EPS/ PDF based on genuine vector data and it really doesn't hurt to have proper alignement crosshairs, either.

  • Use TC for Wireless Printing and Backups Only on Existing Wireless Network

I am fairly clueless about this whole issue. I set up my current Belkin wireless router several years ago, and haven't had to fool with it once. I don't want to have to touch it--if it ain't broke............ However, I would like to use my Time Capsule I just purchased to backup via Time Machine wirelessly and attach a USB printer and print wirelessly. So the TC will not be used for internet, just want a separate wireless point for printing and backing up. Is this possible? I am not sure which choice to choose in Airport utility. I tried a couple different ways, and it didn't work. Can't honestly tell you what I tried, am a bit confused at this point!

If you have not already done so, I suggest that your start over on the AirPort Expess "from scratch" by performing a Factory Default Reset and then attempt to configure it to join the network again.
Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule FAQ
If you have an older Express, make sure that you are not trying to configure it to connect to the 5 GHz network, as it is unable to do so.
Assuming that the name of the wireless network, wireless security setting and password on the Express match up with the AirPort Extreme, the Express should "join" the network if it is working correctly.
If you are still having problems, all that you really can do is try the default reset a few more times. If still no luck, the Express....which is at least 5-6 years old or older, may likely need to be replaced with a new model.

  • How to use AE for wireless printing with Ethernet Printer?

    Hi all,
I have been using my AE connected to a printer via USB for printing but have now replaced my printer with another model that only has Ethernet connections.
Can someone please explain how to set up the AE so that I can print? I can get so far but seem to be doing something wrong somewhere. Here's my setup:
Mix of Macs and PC's using Airport Time Capsule for wireless network. Currently setup as 'Create a Wireless Network'
1 x b/g Airport Express - now with Ethernet connection between AE and Printer. Currently connected as 'Join a Wireless Network'
Via 'Add Printer' I have selected 'Internet Printing Protocol - IPP' as the Protocol and added the IP address of the Airport Express '10.0.1.10' as the Address. This seems to connect OK but all I get is printer paused.
Any idea where I am going wrong please?
    Many thanks, Mike

    Sorry you are having difficulties.
Suggest that you first get the printer working with your AirPort Extreme in case the configuration on the Express may not be quite right.
I'm not familiar with the Epson products, but I do use an HP ethernet all-in-one device.
The basic "must do's" on the device include entering the printers MAC address and assigning a fixed IP address that the printer will always will receive using a DHCP Reservation on the AirPort Extreme. My all-in-one gets 10.0.1.25 It sounds like you may have done this.
After installing the printer software from the disc, you go into the Mac's System Preferencesj > Print and Fax and click the small + (plus) button at the bottom of the printer list. The HP printer appeared immediately as an available printer, so click it to highlight it and then click Add at the lower right. It's been flawless since it was installed about 3 months ago.
You'll need to Add the device for each Mac computer on the network. I don't use PC's but imagine that Add Printer or Add New Device would be the way to go here.
Sometimes it helps to call the manufacturer and endure the hold for 15-20 minutes waiting for the manufacturer's tech support people.

  • Using Compressor for DVD Output

I used a Sony CX-430V to record an event in 60p. Am I limited in the amount of video to compress to DVD? With standard video, I could work between 90 to 110 minutes. Total video I completed editing in HD is roughly 100 minutes. I am new to HD, FCPX and Compressor which is why I am inquiring.

Yes. You can lower the bit rate to fit more and more content, but at some point image quality will become unacceptable. Above two hours and you should probably use Dual Layer disks.
If you give Compressor an HD file it will down convert to a SD resolution and encode an MPEG2 file.

  • Anyone used rOes for ordering prints and albums?

Have any of you used rOes from Soft Works Systems?
    http://www.softworkssystems.com/
Granted, they only support sRGB JPGs and the interface could use a bit more refinement, but dang it works great!
I just signed up with Bay Photo and they use rOes. Very impressive! Quick turn around, cheap shipping... I am excited!

Not bashing on Aperture for their lack of a better ordering interface and albums options, just curious if any pros here have used this...

    5 points for ya
Looking over the tutorials from Bay Photo, it looks like you can save local:

  • Is it necessary to use Compressor for DVD Studio Pro*

I am making a FCP X movie and when it's finished I want to put it on a DVD using DVD Studio Pro. I have done this before but now I'm wondering if I should first export it to Compressor 4 and then to DVD Studio Pro. I understand that if I was puting it on YouTube or an iPod device I would need to Compress it however why would I need to go to Compresss 4 first if ultimately going to DVD Studio Pro? Would I get a better Codec quality then what I get from exporting in FCP X using their default Compression format i.e. Quicktime? Should I use an Apple ProRes Compression from Compressor 4? I guess I really don't understand the encoding quality options very well however I do want the best quality on my finished DVD. The DVD or Sequence is somewhere around 20 - 25 minutes if that makes any difference in your response.

The following applies equally to both C4 and C3.5 (which you have, if you have DVDSP). There is really very little that C4 can do compared to C3.5.
Bring your movie into Compressor as the source file. Drag the MPEG2 and Dolby Digitlal presets into the Batch window. Set the destination where you want your output file to be saved to.
If you are using HD material, open the Inspector>>Frame Controls and activate Frame Controls. Set Resize filter to Best. (If your source file is SD skip Frame Controls.) In the Encoding section, click on Quality and in mode change to CBR. Set your bit rate to 7.0.
Test a short representative section of your movie by marking a range in the Preview window. Submit.
Take your test file and drag it into the DVDSP asset pane. Do your build. Open it in DVD Player and see what you think. If you like the results, proceed with your project. If you're not satisfied, tweak your settings and test again.
    Good luck.

  • My sound mix does not sound the same after using Compressor for DVD

    Hi,
Is there something I can do to maintain the sound mix of my original file when converting to the dolby in Compressor. It needs to be louder overall and sometimes the music goes way too low and the dialogue goes to soft. Sound effects were louder and now get quiet during some parts.
    Help?
    Thanks!

    Hi:
You must do some changes in the standard AC3 preset from Compressor. Duplicate it, and chage the following settings:
    - Dialog Normalization: -31
    - Compression Preset: None
Save it and try it. You must get the same mix and level than your original.
    Hope that helps !

  • I want to set default printer settings to be used only for a specific type of application, certain documents. All other print jobs should use a different default setting for the printer.

I am printing a specific document from a web based application. This document need to be printed in landscape. So I would like to set the default settings for this specific printer to landscape. But for all other printers it should be portrait. But this does not seem to work. The browser picks the settings from the standard/default printer and uses this for all print jobs.

  • DVD Printer (a printer capable of printing directly on a DVD)?

    Hello,
I hope this is the right forum for this question: has anybody had experience with DVD printers (a printer capable of printing directly on a DVD)? Is there a special kind of DVDs required for these printers? What printer works well, does anybody have experience with these?
A search on these forums brought no results. Also, I am not interested in label makers.
    Thanks!
    -Dima

Epson and Canon both have great ink jet printers that allow for dvd printing directly to the top surface (normally to a white surface dvd). For the past few years I've been using white surface Verbatim and a Canon Printer IP3000. Newer models do an even better job.

  • Oracle Apps 11i - Pasta Setup for Barcode print in rdf file

    Hi All,
Since last some days i am trying to setup Oracle Apps 11i to print barcode reports (RDF files)  from concurrent manager.
If anybody have any idea about how to configure pasta to print post script files which support barcode, please suggest.
I have already read many documents but not able to do that. In one of pasta document i found that, pasta support two type of TrueType font. One can be used for regular text and second can be used (bold) for barcode printing. But it shows barcode font as a regular font.
    -Thanks.

User parameter u have to check for use of fax machine.

  • Using font for design

Mr. Dov Isaacs and other crew,
Thank you all for so simple answers on forum, you are the best because something complicated you answer on a simple way,  but I have one more question. As you said buying licence means that we are able to use font for design, print, etc. but if we are designing let say watermark for photo, because I am hobby photographer, not selling anything but like to design watermarks for my photos. Is it ok to add or attach ornament to letter, let say if I am using letter M inside some font is it ok if I attach flower to left leg of M, or ornament or anything, not changing software or anything else just adding something that is representing things that I do?

I did reply to your private message. Repeating my response for others to see …
What you can do with a particular font depends upon the font and whom you license the font from. For fonts you license from Adobe, you may make any modifications or augmentations you want, either to the font itself, its outlines (assuming let's say you “outline” some text) or rasters. The restriction is that you may not redistribute such fonts to others, the visual results in your artwork or photos, yes, the fonts themselves, no.
    Hopefully that makes some sense?
