  • Can I use messaging in Europe even if I have a pre-paid SIM card?

I'm going to be in Spain in May and will buy a pre-paid SIM card with a local number.  As long as I have connection to the internet, via wifi or through the phone service there, will my friends and family be able to use my regular US number to text me?  Do I need to do anything to make this work before or after I get the pre-paid SIM card there?
I'd like this to be seamless for my friends and family to text me at the same number.

It makes sense, marklyn9063. If you are using a tablet overseas with WiFi, you will be able to access Verizon Messages without incurring roaming charges. However, in order to receive messages, you must have an active phone number.

  • I am traveling to India, north and south, with my ipad 2, G-3. It is activated by AT and T. How do I use it in India? Do I need to purchase a sim card there and if so what kind? Would they be available in the Delhi airport or where else in central Delhi?

Also in order not to pay a fortune for the service is it better to acquire if needed a SIM card only once there?
Check with your carrier about roaming charges.  They are usually prohibitive.  Best to get a local SIM.

  • I am confused about something.  How do I read a book on my MacBook Pro?  I can't find the iBook app anywhere, which is what I use on my iPad.  The book I want to read is in my iTunes but I can't click on it.  My iBook library does not show up in iTunes.

I am confused about something.  How do I read a book on my MacBook Pro?  I can't find the iBook app anywhere, which is what I use on my iPad.  The book I want to read is in my iTunes but I can't click on it.  Some of my iBooks show up in my iTunes but they are "grayed" out.  The only books that respond in iTunes are audiobooks and that's not what I'm looking for.  Is this a stupid question?

Nevermind - I answered my own question, which is I CAN"T READ ANY BOOKS I purchased in iBooks on my MacBook Pro.  If I want to read on my mac I have to use Kindle or Nook.  Which means any book I've already purchased through iBooks has to be read on my iPad.  Kind of a drag because there are times when it's more convenient for me to read while I'm sitting with my Mac.

  • I dropped my iPad mini on the floor, but it was not at all a big drop and landed firmly but the lightning cable inside my iPad cracked and from now on I have been using my sisters iPad charger(the same as old one) and now it take 4 hours to charge 8% HELP

It sounds like the drop damage more then just the lightning adapter.
I suggest you take it to Apple and ask them to check it out for you.

  • IPad:  Any advice on getting a pre-loaded Sim for use overseas (Europe)?

iPad:  Any advice on getting a pre-loaded Sim for use overseas (Europe)?

Thanks, I thought this was the case, checking to see if anything had changed.  Spain is the country in question.  We previously were not able to obtain a Sim there but that may have been because of a carrier or individual employee problem.  Will certainly try again next time (we did get a carrier Sim successfully in Italy one time).  Cheers

  • Want to use telstra bigpond mobile wi-fi 4g as a pre-paid after finished 2 year contract

I have finished a 2 year contract and post paid plan on a Netgear aircard 760s and want to use it as a pre-paid but have been told it will not work with a pre-paid sim card. But looking up your websit for pre-paid mobile modems and it is included in the list of modems. Can I use a pre paid sim card in it or not?

If it is a BigPond plan you had then it will not work correctly if at all as the 'BigPond devices will only work on the Telstra network and with a BigPond plan', if it was a Telstra plan then it would work as these are a normal phone service.
Easiest way to tell them apart is on your bill a BigPond one will have an email address, a Telstra one will have a mobile number... otherwise the main difference is that the BigPond one is shaped/slowed and the Telstra one has excess data.
You can in theory have the BigPond ones unlocked to work with Pre-Paid however as their firmware is optimised for the BigPond service it may still not work correctly.

  • Why can't I use a pre paid sim in my iphone that previously had a plan

I have given my iphone 3g to my daughter and she is unable to use hervodaphone pre paid sim card in it.
is it locked to telstra ?
Is it because I was previously on a plan?

Is this a MasterCard credit card issued to you by a bank in the country in which you legally reside, a MasterCard debit card issued to you by a bank in the country in which you legally reside in connection with a demand deposit account (checking/savings) that you maintain in that bank and have a verifiable billing address in that same country or is this a prepaid MasterCard debit card that you bought from a local store?

  • HT1665 I have a World Travel Adapter Kit for use with my iPad. can the plug adapters also be used on the Mac Pro charger to charge up my laptop when travelling or is a special converter needed.M

I have a World Travel Adapter Kit for use with my iPad when traveling abroad. I know this charger can be used on an iPhone, can the plug adapters also be used with the charger of a Mac Book Pro or is a special converter required?

Is there any concern about the type of travel adapter kit? For instance, some instructions indicate they are for heat creating appliances (hairdryers, curling irons, etc.). I bought such a set, but do they present any issues if used with more delicate electronic circuitry (for iPads, iPods, or with camera battery chargers). I am leaving for the UK on Monday and need to get it right - are they too strong for the Apple products if they are not to be used with computers? What other options are out there?

  • Using a US iPad with the Mexican app store

My Mexican mother-in-law wants to buy an iPad while she is visiting us in the US.  How would we go about setting up the Us bought iPad while she is here in the US to use the Mexican app store?

The App Store is easy. It belongs to your Apple ID. If she has a Mexican Apple ID will be automatically routed to the Mexican App Store. The country of purchase is irrelevant. There may be issues getting warranty support in Mexico for a US iPad. The warranty on iOS devices is not worldwide. You can ask at the Apple Store to see if Mexico is considered "US-enough". Also, bringing a US iPad back across the border could be trouble. The border guards might want taxes and/or duties.

  • Uses for an Ipad in the IT Department

    Hello all,
I had a few questions.  I'm in a small IT group and we were considering to get Ipads for everyday use, I.E. task management, mail, and remoting. I'm just wounding if any of you had any experience with deploying ipads and manageing them them.
Are there any suggestions on which software we should get; as in MDM software, VPP deployment software, or any others out there?
I've read just about everything I could find on the subject, but there aren't many examples of how people integrated ipad into the IT field.
Also what other apps are out there for monitoring wireless networks or office programs such as word or excel, and what about task management and prioritizing them.
    Thanks for your input.

There's a whole mess of network tools ranging from subnet calculators to port scanners. Another good tool is Rove Mobile Admin.
As for an MDM server orr volume purchasing, I guess that would depend on the volume of devices you need to manage. If you're only dealing with a few devices it's not worth the cost.
